THE BOAT: Scow Bow Mini-Cruiser. 14’ long (4.25M,) with a 6’ beam (1.8M,) and a draft of 2’6” (0.77M.) She features twin keels and a Ljungström rig. Every design decision is made to keep her simple, strong, and watertight.
In this episode I use foam to create a male mold for my hatch cover. I build the hatch using layers of fiberglass and carbon fiber. The hinge was designed in CAD to lift up over the lip of the hatch hole and then hinge forward to open.
I also prepped holes to install a few pieces of deck hardware, including the tube the reefing line will pass through into the doghouse. Some fiddles were added in the doghouse to allow some items to be stored just below the forward doghouse deadlights.
A boweye fitting was added on the aft end of the doghouse to allow me to lock the hatch cover closed. A handle was added to the hatch cover for the same reason. I made it by epoxying on several layers of fiberglass and synthetic webbing.

These channels all want publicity until it’s time to actually give publicity, and then they go quiet 🤷♂️
Sorry, I will update again soon, things just got hectic.
Haven’t posted in a while, everything ok?
I hope you’re doing well and everything is still ok.
Up !!! ❤
This is a dream, thanks for letting us watch!
Can that boat be ideal for the sea. Alantic.
Yes that's my hope, I plan to test it soon.
Watching old videos, hoping a new one will arrive soon ☺️
Thank you, it will!
I’m really starting to worry about you now I pray your family is all right. I was told back in the 80s when I built my two ocean going sailboats that only one out of 100 boats started wherever completed and of the hunt of the one percent that finished the boats only one in 100 of those actually went cruising, I hope you are the one percent
No worries, I'll post again soon. I still plan to finish everything.
Hope to see an update soon as you're grown to 11k
up !!! ❤
Hope you post again... I wanna try this and need your vids lol
Thank you, I will!
Cool 😊
I hope that all is well with Perry as I haven’t seen any posts since June and I have been following him since the start.
Sorry, thanks for checking in, I will be back soon.
You can buy glue made specifically for mating PVC to ABS. I got a chuckle out of trying to glue PEX. Nothing sticks to it except melted PEX. A DIY compression fitting made by drilling the drain cleanout cap and finding a suitable o-ring would be easy, but you would have to secure the drain tube to avoid pulling it out.
Instead of a nut consider a cap screw nut that is self locking. Rough things can cause injury when you are getting bounced around.
Buy a finish router
I would have used a template to cut out layers and sanditch layered it with glass between layers.. a router would have made quick work of it. Shape it after attached to hull and covered it with glass. That looks far too fragile.
Love what you have going there. I want to copy it only twive the size.
Beautiful work!!!
It would be rad to see you post again!!!
Definitively not enough resin. You have first to saturate the foam then put the 1st layer of fiberglass and be sure it's translucide indicating there is no air trapped then add resin and put the 2nd layer of fiberglass. Roll it be sure it's translucide then add the pell ply and roll it.
Hi Perry ... you OK? It's been three months since the last update -- you didn't finish the boat and sail away without letting us see the final product did you!?! We need an update if not an episode -- if you want to keep growing your subscribers, they need content to watch!!! I hope all is well.
Been 2 months, hope everything is ok.
Have I missed an update to your last video? It’s October 2024!
No deadlights facing stern?
There's 1 clear round port that opens, it's about a foot under the doghouse.
@@ocean_capable_small_sailboat thanks for the answer!
Nothing much for a while. Everything ok? Or have you given up posting on this project?
No, didn't give up. Sorry, just got behind with a few busy things going on. I'll get the next video up soon.
@@ocean_capable_small_sailboat glad all ok
How do you escape if someone locks you in from the outside?
Where are you Perry? Hope everything is alright in your life.
All is good, just a hectic summer. Working on the next video.
@@ocean_capable_small_sailboat Glad to hear that. See you soon then 🙂
Hi captain, everything ok with you and your family? Community is getting worried. Cheers from Germany👍
Yes, sorry, I got behind but I'll put out a video soon.
I love what you're doing and joyed that you're putting this out for everyone to see your progress and inspire others. You have another subscriber.
Two months since the last video?? Are you out sailing and forgot to let us know? ;)
hello... what happened to your boat???... I want to see how it ended.. great channel
We would love an “update”
I'm hanging for your next vids.
I wonder what happened, no video for 2 months. 🤔
Coming soon. A big life change but the project does not change, just a little delay.
Any Idea when you're gonna have that thing in the water
I'm not sure if I can beat the coming of winter, but the boat is quite close to being complete.
You are exactly what I was looking for. Thank you
thanks for sharing, be safe and enjoy the journey!
Are you and your family ok? We haven't had avideo for weeks and we're missing you.
Yes, thank you we are well. Life and work just got a bit crazy this summer but I have a video I need to finish and post.
Very similar design to french 12ft 'baluchon' ... world tour done, a second is going on...
Yes he inspired me to start all this.
