Thanks for the shoutout! Quixel Megascan assets are definitely worth the price, but future Unreal users will have a lot harder time learning UE5/UEFN without the library. @@SmartPoly - I started grabbing some of the currently available free content last night but quickly noticed that a lot of it was labeled as incompatible with the newer versions of UE. Reasons for removal may include take-down due to intellectual property infringement or other legal violation, seller violation of terms, and obsolescence. I wonder if this decision is also the consequence of big studios pressure. With unreal being free of use and with so many assets free there have been an explosion in indie games and a massive increase in their overall quality. To the point where they must be impacting the market share for the big ones. We have seen recently with the debacles of Ubisoft or Concord how much people don’t deal with trash games anymore.
I use Unreal Engine in one of my high school classes specifically, because these assets are free over all other considerations. This is going to destroy that class.
I am just finishing video game design school and can confirm quixel was my go to for 95% of all my projects. It made it so easy to learn and get into unreal and have fun with it. Honestly to mess around with engines this change may make me not use unreal anymore. Pretty sad tbh

I started learning unreal engine 5 in May this year because of SmartPoly's Zombie FPS tutorials. I am still learning and building this game. I hope this new change won't impact the progress of this game development and learning journey.
Purchased Quixel in 2016! They then made it free! Now its going paid again! Dumb! They better have all my paid assets/plugins. I've spent thousands over the years! Hopefully they also make it easier to categorize your owned assets as the current marketplace blows!
Downloading all those assets to own them would be literally insane and I hope that's not really the case. I really hope claiming them will be enough. Besides... if they make the download relevant my prevision is their servers will die with people downloading those assets all at once like crazy since today to the end of the year. Even as Epic I wouldn't like to go through that. Personally I haven't used those assets much yet because I'm more working on mechanics and gameplay... but those assets were going to be an absolute need for me. I honestly hope they move back at least from that decision. I'm also concerned about the cost of the assets in the new platform, I'm concerned prices will run out of control. In all this I really hope this won't be a "new era" for Unreal Engine making the "old" or "mid" era become a long gone "golden era"!
Honestly I thinks it's not a bad move for people that actually use it can get more updates and better assets. Quixel scans created this effect where anyone could make some "wow looks so real" screenshots but the novelty wears off super quick. Realistically speaking you most likely wouldn't use this in a profesional game, they are often way too overkill for almost any type of game plus anything of lower level of detail that you put on the scene is going to pop up immediately, specially characters looking amateurish and cheap. We've all sene those "sonic in unreal" etc projects that look completely disjointed and lack real art direction. I also knew this would happen one day, so last year I downloaded a huge amount of the library's assets onto my hard drive, because we shouldn't think that free will be free forever.
They should make a megascans plugin for unreal that draws the assets from fab and then fab detects that it's that plugin and the assets will be free as long as the plugin loads them into unreal directly.
Great Vid, I think that all current free assets should stay free. Anything moving forward they can sell it at a price. But taking what was once always free and now taking that away will hurt them.

From what I've seen in UE5.5, Fab still has free assets from Quixel Bridge. Fab can be tested in Unreal Engine 5.5, which is used to edit Fortnite maps.
What about unreal marketplace? A lot of tutorials use that as well. Will it still function as it does now, that some assets are free, some are paid and we get additional 5 free assets every month?
It is a normal Tech sector strategy: growth for any price, even buying out competition, once established a duopoly or even monopoly by using lock-in methods or costly shifts, hike the price.
A year ago, I started learning Unreal Engine, and if it weren't for Quixel Bridge and its free assets, I would never have overcome the initial difficulties. They were an invaluable source of inspiration and motivation for me to continue developing. I'm disappointed that these assets are now being closed off to new potential creators who could discover and develop their creativity just like I did.
If they don't migrate Unreal assets that people have already claimed, the masses need to look at walking away. At the worst what people have claimed should still be available? As for trying to cast their net out to claim more money from people making films etc. Well, maybe Blender and other software may be a better choice???
Most of this will be AI generated soon. You can already do a lot of AI generations for 3D assets - for free. This will just accelerate the market for free assets via third parties. So I don't think it's a big deal TBH. As such, I don't think it was a good move for Ureal, because it'll just push users to other venders. What they should have done, is have a multi-tier model, where you get free assets up to a certain resolution, then anything 4k+ you need a pro plan or something like that.
I think what is happening is that more movie studios are now using UE and so UE is sacrificing the small fish to appease the big boys so that the content creation of the small fish is competitive with the major players. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some deal the studios offered UE to limit assets to the small fish.

Epic should give these assets to all account created in fab before 2025 or one click buy all, else it will be a nightmare to get all of these one by one
I ran the script and now have them all in my purchased items however when I go to an item it only shows download in 2k, 4k and 8k, no nanite option available. Anyone know why?
Funny how no one mentions the other aspects of Quixel that Epic dropped the ball on. While Megascans was a massive success for the industry, Bridge and Mixer have been dead for almost 2 years now. Mixer (formally Quixel Suite) was the only direct competitor to Substance Painter and Designer. It had massive potential to be an industry-leading tool, but nothing.
When you say that you can claim these items means that there will be an option of claiming like a button kind of thing right because when I go to bridge there is no button of claiming , I just download whatever asset I want to . Am I right ?
Did you watch any of the video or read the description? Get the script and claim the assets.... (and no I'm not gonna help you with that, it's all in the link) You're welcome...
There are some free Megascans on UE Marketplace as well. They come from Quixel. Do you think those will remain on the Marketplace for free? Those are not exactly the same as those from Quixel bridge.
so this why quixel on ue5 always trouble? when we can download and use the fab? i have project and cant download assets from quixel window in ue5, can u help me for explain it? thankyou for ur help
My guess is that all the legacy assets will remain free. They only have value for realistic games. Stylized assets are more valuable in my opinion and would be a more likely focus of an asset store.
It was said somewhere that even if devs don't do anything their assets will be ported to fab automatically.. This new fab thing with the licencing sucks though..
Marketplace is affected? How is this gonna fk up our library? You know it will. Im hoping this wont affect the monthly freebies in there. Surely there will still be the monthly freebies section. Right? RIGHT?

Will be buying new storage(s) to get as much of that library asap. And then start making my own high quality assets.
it will be a lot to download
Hey man thank you for the script!
Wait, are you telling me that quixel megascans that are free atm won't be free anymore once FAB releases if I don't claim them now?
They will be free in FAB until the end of the year. You can wait till october when FAB comes out, to claim them
what about metahuman
I ran the script and now have them all in my purchased items however when I go to an item it only shows download in 2k, 4k and 8k, no nanite option available. Anyone know why?
Funny how no one mentions the other aspects of Quixel that Epic dropped the ball on. While Megascans was a massive success for the industry, Bridge and Mixer have been dead for almost 2 years now. Mixer (formally Quixel Suite) was the only direct competitor to Substance Painter and Designer. It had massive potential to be an industry-leading tool, but nothing.
that script is fire thanks for informing me :D
Thank you for this info! :D
make sure you claim them in October or before the end of the year!
Wait will my current assets I have on the marketplace go over to FAB?
Yes, you'll "lose" nothing you already have claimed or bought.
@@ickebins6948 thank you
When you say that you can claim these items means that there will be an option of claiming like a button kind of thing right because when I go to bridge there is no button of claiming , I just download whatever asset I want to . Am I right ?
Did you watch any of the video or read the description?
Get the script and claim the assets....
(and no I'm not gonna help you with that, it's all in the link)
You're welcome...
Did they take a play from the unity playbook?
Yeah...BAD CHOICE...they will regret this.
There are some free Megascans on UE Marketplace as well. They come from Quixel. Do you think those will remain on the Marketplace for free? Those are not exactly the same as those from Quixel bridge.
Hopefully they will remain free and be migrated over to FAB. I am going to make a video about these and a few other ways to get assets
so this why quixel on ue5 always trouble? when we can download and use the fab? i have project and cant download assets from quixel window in ue5, can u help me for explain it? thankyou for ur help
good for them. i dont use it anyway. - the library is too limited anyway.
For real the library is souless
Can you please do a tutorial on how to save this library to an external SSD for future use?
ill look into it
My guess is that all the legacy assets will remain free. They only have value for realistic games. Stylized assets are more valuable in my opinion and would be a more likely focus of an asset store.
Paid assets makes less shovelware which is beat for all.
It was said somewhere that even if devs don't do anything their assets will be ported to fab automatically.. This new fab thing with the licencing sucks though..
Better to wait for the FAB release
yep, however new users will not be able to claim these assets next year!
@@SmartPoly why do we need to wait for FAB? if we claim it now in bridge pixel, it will be available for who claim it forever to keep, right ? !
@@xjuliussx it's because of the license
SP did you get a new mic or am I tripping you sound very different 😅
Marketplace is affected? How is this gonna fk up our library? You know it will.
Im hoping this wont affect the monthly freebies in there. Surely there will still be the monthly freebies section. Right? RIGHT?
They mentioned to current Unreal Marketplace sellers to start migrating their content over. So I am wondering if migration is a manual process. If so, will old asset packs be auto-migrated over? or removed...
@@SmartPoly On the announcement they said creators who don't migrate manually to the Fab license until a certain date will be migrate to Fab using the current unreal license.
Marketplace will cease to exist, all assets bought (free or paid) from the marketplace will still be available on the Engine Vault.
@@MarcusBuer Well that sux. What a dumbass name. Fab. I went over there and checked it out. It took my epic login credenials. There is a QnA that says there will be free stuff. I assume its gonna be up to the sellers. Man I wish they would just leave well enough alone.
@@SmartPoly Not a very detailed QnA on there at all. My guess is you dont, which means, you prolly do. LOL.
Please note that the number of assets dropped by about 4000 assets. In the video you see >18000 assets but right now it is more like 14000 assets in quixel
will fab have "free fot the month" assets?
I hope so, but since FAB is for UEFN, and other game engines too, I am wondering the compatibility of certain assets...
Blows Chunks!
Maybe they will leave lower quality for free and charge for higher resolution/Nanite?
Thankyou for the new!
How much space all the assests need?like 500GB?
depends on quality preset. But I assume atleast 1TB or more
@@SmartPoly thanks
I have cods to download all assist
I knew this would happen one day, so last year I downloaded a huge amount of the library's assets onto my hard drive, because we shouldn't think that free will be free forever.
also
I purchased the entire content of the Quixel MegaScan site in less than 10 minutes
All this with a simple script
Now I am doing the same thing on another Gmail account
I don't get it exacly. We have to download all assets until 2025 or Can we add easly on Fab in 2025?
so are they still giving away free assets and plugins for each month?
Does anyone know how to import models into blender after Quixel migrated to Fab, like before just hit export in megascans bridge but now it just shows download in Fab?
where is link to scipt mention in the video
I just updated the description
This is why I stick with open source projects. "Free" is only free as long as your master allows it, otherwise.
Of course this is happening. It's too good of a deal as is.
I have to re-run the script every a thousand or so because it got stuck, maybe too many people doing the same?, but it's going.
I wonder if quixel is having problems
If someone could answer me this - I have 'bought' all 18776 items on Quixel [everything except Meta-Human], will I be able to keep all of this?
[Usual hint to my channels]
I mean it is being 'bought', just not downloaded ...
ownership on quixel bridge is not guaranteed to be transferred over to FAB. Also another thing I forgot in this video, which you just mentioned right now is metahumans. I think Epic will start charging for metahumans in 2025 (although this is unconfirmed) it's just my thoughts

@@SmartPoly Uhm... from what I read we're gonna still have free access to MetaHuman... I hope I' not wrong! Can you verify that? I' sure you've got better sources than me...
thank you for the info
I’m very upset : I’ll be stop using the engine and go Godot instead it seems
I hope I can continue to use my Metahumans for my film.
There is a script that allows to get all the assets on your quixel bridge account
yep, however ownership is not guaranteed to be transferred to FAB
@@SmartPoly " luckily you can claim them and own it permanently! but new users who start next year (and dont claim them) will have to pay for it! " you pissed someone else did the vid or what?
Using that script how do you know when its finished?
It should show all the assets claimed in your library
@@SmartPoly ahh ok thank you
Welp, time to get to downloading
It's still free for Unreal Accounts. It stated so in the email it sent to me.
till the end of the year
I hope that the Epic Wallet is not enforced. Adding funds in fixed denominations is in my mind a scam...
I see trouble ahead 😮
The line must go up.
I just downloaded Unreal, and after hearing about this and seeing this video, I'm apprehensive about even using it. It's not mentioned anywhere when going to download UE, and as someone that just wants to make cool scenery, I feel lied to.
What will happen to Quixel Mixer? Will it still be free?
dead program. theres substance painter, marmoset toolbag and 3dcoat textura. two of which would grant you assets, the other one not if you subscribe.
also Mixer is a stingy program to use, and of all platforms its developed on is Unity.
@@ProbablyAnAmateur They are not free. I need a free one.
@@imnodoughnut i get that. but so far i havent found anything else free close to quixel mixer.
the best i know that's an alternative is a paid-for program so im switching to 3dcoat while i can. :)
there might be ways to use blender as if it was quixel mixer. i havent found the perfect setup for it yet but im sure there are guides setting it up like that though.
Will Marketplace's free assets become paid? Please reply 😢😢😢😢
Yeah bro
