I have every AAA title released this year so far on all platforms and pc... Most i pick up and play few hours, see what they're about, and don't try again. Being 44 now, I grew up w/ original NES. This game truly does capture the magic of that era and original Zelda, the need to explore and see what is next; and it does so, in a clean, thoughtfully designed manor, discarding unnecessary bloat, while maintaining fun fluid gameplay. SO many games today just pad the experience, force you through so much exposition, busy work and b.s. Perhaps fun for someone who has 40 hrs to dump on a single title, but for someone who just wants to have fun playing a video game without it being a chore, this game nails it. I never post on game reviews, but so happy w/ this one felt the need to support the developer and sing it's praises.

This game blew me away and scratched the exploration and sense of discovery itch I've been having since Outer Wilds and Elden Ring. I haven't sat there with a pen and pad trying to figure out puzzles (and the in-game language) like this since The Witness! If you loved those 3 games, 2.5D Zeldas with metroidvania elements, this is the game for you! The best tip I can give (SMALL SPOILER ALERT!)
is pay VERY close attention to every. single. inch. of. every. single. page! There are secrets and hidden messages hidden everywhere in the pages you find. 9.5/10 (for an indie game)

Good review, I felt so proud when I deciphered that instruction manual “increasing your power” thing, the reviewer did a good job beating that first boss without the upgrades, i haven’t gotten there yet but it looks hard and I bet is very challenging with no upgrades

  • @starpegasusgamer8561
    @starpegasusgamer8561 2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

This looks like quite an ingenious design! The whole instruction manual page collection gimmick is an awesome homage to the Japanese games you'd rent to try and figure them out. I'm digging it, especially since it seems like difficulty as a feature in game design has started to have a comeback with the souls-like genre.
I get why people would be polarized by the "godmode" mechanic though. On one hand, casual players will initially like it, but they're not going to enjoy the original experience and that will hamper their perception of the game. And on the other, people who love difficulty will not enjoy having that possibility of turning off any and all threats. They game might become lost in a sort of "target audience limbo" as a result.
But I hope that doesn't happen, because it looks like a fantastic game!

For having completing the game just yesterday, if you want to try this game out I have only one advice to give you all: Don't spoil yourself at ALL. The real experience of this game come at his best while you have absolute no clue of the game, while also, if you get stuck, don't go on the internet to look for a anwser to where to go. You are mean to search and figure out everything by yourself. Yes you will get stuck and will maybe get skip important key item or moments, but once you get it, you will feel a real sens of accomplishement that the game is looking out for you.
P.S: Don't look for any clues of golden path on internet. Found it by yourself, it's a blast to figure out.

I heard good things about this game being one of the top indies you must play(so I did since it was on gamepass) and after experiencing it for myself I can see why.
The music is beautiful and calming.
Now the combat can be a bit frustrating since you need to press LB (in Xbox)to change weapons or use consumables. I wish there was a better way to implement inputs while in combat without going into the menu and switching your shortcuts constantly. I also experienced getting stuck in the environment quite a few times and sometimes the path wasn't very clear when going under hidden areas.
The blue gem took me the longest to uncover and the last boss was brutal
    LOL.
Other than that exploration is amazing in this game and the manual has everything you need to figure out your journey
    Absolutely a gem.

Crazy to see this little title reviewing so well. I typically enjoy games that don't hold your hand, and I like challenging puzzles. But the lack of direction in Tunic was at times annoying to me. The foreign language sounds like a cool idea but more often than not I found it pointless. I understand players are able to decipher it but I'm not about to pull out the Rosetta stone for a video game 😆 I'm just not that invested. Also the final boss I found to be too much for a game with such limited maneuverability in combat. Maybe I have to master the parry? I dunno. Anyway it's a good game I'm glad people enjoy it.

I have a Switch OLED and yes this would look amazing on it. But I'm glad I have an Xbox Series S because this is on GamePass just how Deaths Door & other great indie games have arrived there. I would have not tried it if it wasn't on GP

@@ralph4lyf Death's door is awesome, especially on the OLED. As a vanlifer, I can only speak for myself but playing performance-light indie gems on a big console just feels like an underutilization of processing power at this point. Death's Door, Katana Zero, Celeste, Hades, Gungeon, Dead Cell, Hollow Knight, Ori, Cup Head, HLD, Steam World Dig 2 and Heist...indie classics that all fit and play perfectly on the OLED Switch.
This baby would fit right in! Praying for a an end of year release🤞🏾

you only lose 20 coins max when dying. near the end game this is a very small amount of money. You made it out to be that you lose everything
Also I turned on no fail mode and it did stop achievements despite what you said. I picked up the sword and nothing.

    • @poopsatbar19

If they really want to sell this game they would release it on the Switch as soon as they can. I know it's a timed exclusive but I don't think there are any plans to bring this to the Switch. Too bad as this would be a bonafide classic hit on a handheld platform.

My man out here spoiling so much of the fun of the game in the review. Why talk about the mechanics specifically when the game goes out of its way to obscure those things? I get that makes writing a review hard, but it would have been nice if you didn't do so. I discovered the buff mechanics on my own at the right time in the game and it felt really good.

Tired of hearing Souls like. Its difficult ,not souls like. Can't be the only person tired of hearing this newly made up genre. Make a new one Ghost n' Goblins like. Cause its hard.

A lot of the mechanics are actually taken from Dark Souls. I feel like the combat is pretty similar with the dodging and learning animations to see when you can attack. The resting system that respawns all the enemies. Even the potions work like the dark soul potions. It's a new game genre and I love that other games besides Dark Souls are grabbing the formula.
