Played a friend's copy for a few hours on release day, and I have to say I was pretty impressed. We were both quick to remark on how natural the open world felt for a Sonic game, as though it's a move they should've already made a long time ago. Will definitely be picking it up for myself in the near future
I mean a 7 is still good especially for a sonic game. And what he said sounded right to me to give a 7 it’s definitely a step in the right direction and the flaws mentioned are a fair criticism. But reviews are subjective anyway so ut doesn’t matter, the game will get decent reviews.

I think they said that it will be explained in the game but the basic thing is that some random stuff warped from sonic’s world along with them onto this island. So they are actually not supposed to be there and randomly got warped with sonic and friends.
It took me a while to realize that I need to stop watching reviews for games I'm about to buy because any review of a game is from someone who sits in front of a TV playing for 12+ hours at a time and I rarely have a gaming session last longer than 2 hours. So my feeling towards the game is completely different. Also my feelings are usually way more positive due to lack of fatigue.
I got Sonic Frontiers for Christmas, am on the last island, about 30 hours of playtime so far. I'd give it an 8/10, it's no masterpiece but it's an above-average game. It can be frustrating at times, reminds me of many classic NES games in that regard, and I never could figure out the Light Dash (luckily, it's pretty much optional). That being said, I love the beautiful environments, most of the Cyber Space stages are great, and the whole game in general just has an addictive quality that keeps me coming back for more. I’ve read this comment about sonic before…. Say one thing about sonic say he’s inconsistent. It’s pretty disheartening that sonic fans can only celebrate a step in the right direction…I can’t imagine a Mario or Zelda fan ever saying that. Or any big franchise, like dark souls…

But if you can only unlock them with story progression then there’s no point on having it at all as you don’t get to strategise on what to unlock first

@@osakeleto unleashed is a pretty inconsistent experience though. It'd be so much better if the hog levels were shorter, tokens were optional, the battle theme was removed, ran at a decent framerate and wasn't torture to 100%.
"Sonic Adventure set the template for the last 24 years of 3D Sonic games" Uh, no, it didn't? They departed heavily from the Adventure playstyle and came up with an entirely new formula starting with Sonic Unleashed, which came out in 2008, only 10 years after Adventure.
i’d argue they started experimenting even earlier with the team mechanic in heroes. not to mention the way they ditched the boost formula after 3 games (unleashed, colors, generations) to do some weird spin-offs (lost world, the boom series). ever since the jump to 3d, sonic has been the picture of inconsistency… which is unfortunately why there are 2d purists in the fandom who think sonic could never work in 3d
I like the idea of the open zone thing but all the floating rails and obstacles in the sky just look like some weird custom park made in a tony hawk game or something, they don't look aesthetically cohesive with the world, the robots look like random assets... Just not sure about the art direction they've gone with.

Easy pass for me. Not worth spending money on a game that gets 7 when there are plenty of titles out their that are great. Also will be experiencing gow ragnorak which is already a masterpiece 👍

So, you traverse a series of islands collecting tokens to obtain a power-up that let's you enter a super mode that's necessary to take down a giant-sized boss? That sounds much less BOTW and much more Bowser's Fury.

Looks like a tiny budget game made by a tiny team or even a college project (it would be exceptional for a college project). The cyberspace levels look great though. Is there as much pop in on PC?
This is the game I wanted since the Sega Saturn. When Mario 64 came out I was begging for sonic to answer with a decent 3-D title which we did not get until sonic adventure. But even then sonic adventure was never quite living up to Mario 64. I felt like sonic adventure didn’t have enough levels and the open world hub just felt too small. Sonic frontiers is everything I ever wanted out of a 3-D sonic game. My only gripe would be the enemies are all robots and don’t have a lot of personality I would’ve gone for more classic sonic bad guys. But beggars cannot be choosers and I’m not even blinking and I at the few minor gripes I have of this game.

There is a hubworld and you must face enemies, bosses and puzzles to progress. Next to this, many "parkour puzzles". You can skill your character (speed etc.) and unlock about 20 special attacks. From the hubworld you go into classic sonic levels. That's it! Gameplay is too predictable for me. Controls are very tricky and the camera isn't always on point either, so the "parkour puzzles" can be very frustrating. Soundtrack is extremely good. Feeling of speed is there. If you play it on Hard, it's very challenging. I would give this game 70%.
I live in the border so I expect Sony Frontiers to be about doing 5 hours lines and trying to get the officer in the good mood so we don't get sent to 2nd revision
Now Sega needs to let Christian Whitehead do his magic and give us the Manga enhanced version remake to bring it up to Sonic Mania quality. And Sega needs to stay out and let the fans help make it better. This game could serve as a great template

And people weren't comparing the zelda entry with the dozens of open world refferences it inspired itself from before. Like, let's say, Shadow of The Colossus (and that is a huge inspiration in Frontiers that a see no one talking about)
I cried when shadow said "all things end sonic, even us" and then pulled out the buster sword from the legend of Zelda: kingdom hearts, and proceeded to use his ultimate move "spartan rage", and then "it has to be this way" started playing in the background, while sonic pulled out the blades of chaos from final fantasy 20 and said, "I had a feeling you'd say that" and then proceeded to use his ultimate move, "flame of frenzy", and flamed all over the place. This will truly be the game of all time
