In the Gym | Ep 05: When No Ones Looking

  • Staying in shape is crucial for me. The kid in me needs to play sports for fun and competition and the adult needs to move and sweat to stay sane. If I don’t get a sweat I’m anxious and I don’t think as clearly. Since I hate playing poorly I try to push myself in the gym so I can keep up a decent level and stave off the inevitable decline as long as I can for a high quality of life. Really I just can’t sit still!
    ------
    Thanks for watching. I’m building the vlog out to show you my life after Basketball, and hopefully give you some of the lessons Basketball and life have taught me in my career. I’d love to know what you think. Leave your comments to tell me what you would like me to feature and follow me on my journey! Cheers. Steve.

    Mr. Nash, thank you for these Vlogs, I am a 60 year old prostate cancer survivor of 5 years, a former Texas High School State Champion and NAIA Ball player. Your videos are an inspiration to me. I love this game and continue to learn everyday. My workouts are individual now and I have not played pickup or one on one since before my surgery. Watching your vlogs are helping me regain confidence & stamina 2 play again.
    Thank you.

    Dude, you are pure inspiration. I'm a division II walk on that ended up playing pro in Spain for 2 years. Without you, i really don't think i would have gotten there. I coach now and am always finding myself saying, "i stole this from Steve Nash". I'd love to pick your brain some day and learn more. Keep on, brother!

    I just found a great new trick from watching videos of Steve Nash. One thing I have struggled with in recent years is getting past my man on my drive. I was taught when I was young to take a straight Bee-line to the hoop and get there with one dribble. I used to be great at getting past my man because I was super quick and I was clever at getting an edge on my first step.
    Now I am pushing 60 and I struggle with that. Watching videos of Nash, he often takes a slightly curved path. That gives him more time to get his head and shoulders ahead of the defender and get the defender on his back. For example he will start out at the left wing, drive towards the middle of the foul line and then take it into the paint. Once he gets into the paint, he gets the defender on his back by edging back towards his left. The defender has to pull back at that point and he has the defense at his mercy, in full control in the teeth of the defense.
    I tried it this morning and it worked great.

    Spinal and posture problems are caused by weak low back muscles ,, I get these if I skipped weight lifting for a month or two , once am back to weight lifting all problems are gone and no more pain ,, also there are some great apps such as "runtastic six packs" I highly recommend and also " back doctor" I highly recommend as well , they both use corrective exercisers to correct your posture ,, good luck brother !

    Hi Steve. Great work. My name is Eric Baldwin. I am a nutrition, fitness and lifestyle coach her in the San Francisco area. I am currently working with a basketball player that has been progressing nicely with a very similar training style and methodology that you and your trainer are using. I would like to reach out to your trainer and connect with him about his training and methods. If you could please give me his name I can look him up. If you would like to share my contact with him that works perfectly well. Thank you for your time. I hope to hear back from you soon.

      Probably because of all the contact, prime Steve Nash could absolutely take it but as he got older of course he couldn’t handle dealing with longer and physical defenders. I still think Nash would be a mean Tennis player, just not really pro

      BoxingFanBoy i disagree, basketball is the most demanding non contact sport there is. Its about of impact on the body landing on hardwood and sometimes players pay back to back games. Soccer is mostly cardio

    Why do basketball players do all these fufu banded bosu ball exercises during "strength" training instead of heavy barbell exercises? If they actually wanted to get strong, they'd focus on reaching respectable numbers on the squat, power clean, overhead press, and trap bar deadlift

      They're professionals because of their genetics. If they actually wanted to get stronger, they'd do heavy exercises with some sort of progression scheme

    • @myjciskate4
      @myjciskate4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yung Pisspig You’re actually right, but Steve isn’t the nba anymore. Guys like Nate Robinson, LeBron, Isaiah Thomas, Steph curry, focus more on strength. The older generation of players didn’t really focus on strength as much as they should have. The newer generation is starting to focus more on strength though.
