I got fired for not "dating" my boss. Nothing against gay people but I have the right to refuse dating another man. He made up a false reason to fire me. I'm still upset about it, and it was several years ago.

That doctor who prescribed the laxative for lunch theft was absolutely brilliant. It gave the OP an excuse to have the laxative in the food (avoiding assault charges), forced the uncaring company to escalate to police intervention, punished the thief karmicly, got him to confess, *and* they can't even challenge it because it's a private medical issue.

    • @katphish30

If any of that had happened, which it didn't, that doctor is unethical and should lose his license.

    • @UsaSatsui
      @UsaSatsui 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +36

@katphish30 On what grounds? He diagnosed a problem (his patient wasnt eating lunch) and prescribed an appropriate medication to remedy it. The patient is happy with his treatment, and nobody else has grounds to file a complaint, least of all the guy who stole prescription medicine.
Looking at the entire picture with all the facts, yes, the doctor probably deserves a stern talking to. But in reality, he's got more than enough deniability to be fine.

    • @katphish30
      @katphish30 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@katphish30 No. I'm saying he will get away with it, because there's no real way he could be caught. Even if you had someone to accuse him, you couldn't make it stick.

@@katphish30 Of the two people in this thread, you are the one acting like a child here just so you know. No adult should be that innocent to believe that anything will ever happen to this doctor, or that anyone in the real world is ever fully ethical. It really doesn't happen, real life circumstance does not allow for such a fantastic level of ethical practice. It would be nice if it did, but that is just a pipe dream that never comes about.

It's so stupid that people who are victims of lunch theft are actually held liable if the thief gets sick from eating their food...
My favorite lunch theft story was this:
A lunch thief stole OP's lunch and got sick because OP likes her food extremely spicy. He accused OP of poisoning him and an HR lady actually fired OP over this.
OP threatened to sue, which caused corporate to get involved. OP was offered her job back, with almost double her previous salary and more opportunities to grow in the company, obviously to keep her happy enough to not sue.
The lunch thief and the HR lady were both fired. Turns out they were having an affair.

If they get sick from it, you're not liable. If you poison it, expecting then to steal it and get sick, you can be charged with assault for deliberately tampering with food you knew they were gonna steal.
This is why the best thing to use for trap lunches is something like super hot sauce or something you might actually eat. Plausible deniability.

Back in the early 90’s my new husband was having issues with his chocolate being stolen out of his desk after hours. His solution was to melt down the entire contents of a big box of chocolate Ex-Lax. He reshaped it into one bar and left it wrapped in a Hershey candy bar wrapper. Each day a little more was gone. When there was only 1 piece left, hubby left a note inquiring if they had been shitting well for the past week. In English and Spanish. Never got stolen from again. He also switched to bittersweet baking chocolate.

My Father-in-law got a little more creative (or geeky.) He took an actual large Hershey bar (the kind he kept in his desk and kept getting eaten) and modified it. He took a drill press and carefully drilled out each square from the back. Then he melted Chocolate Ex-Lax in a double boiler, and poured the holes full. Then he took the chocolate shavings he'd saved, used a hot knife, and spread them on the back of the bar so his handiwork was invisible. Results were predicitable and entertaining.

my late father had a similar problem when he was working at a steel mill, because when he and his coworkers had lunch & it was one guy’s turn to buy, he’d always have an excuse for not buying, and he would always help himself to my dad’s thermos, so one day, before he left for work, my mom made him some Hot Chocolate and mixed in an entire box of Ex-Lax, and when it was time for their lunch break, my dad was in the break room and set his thermos on the table and sat back and watched, and after that day, he & his other coworkers never had a problem with that guy again

Explain in the note it's not your place to expose the women. Again, do it anonymously.
Former bosses story: While it is sometimes necessary to fire an employee for cause, to fire one for ego's sake is a pretty stupid move. Making an enemy in business is rarely smart because you may find that person in another role someday as someone you have to appease. And they aren't likely to be appeased.
Bob the builder story: Most builders won't build on land they don't own. When/if they do, they're smart enough to build safeguards into the contract. Bob wasn't smart enough.
Divorce story: I'm certain a lot of people will question the ex being fired for testing positive for weed given how it's legal in so many places and in the others they often just look the other way. The answer to that is that weed is still against FEDERAL law. If you work for the federal government or a federal contractor and you test positive, you lose your job. PERIOD!
Lunch thief story: OP, I like your doctor. Sounds like he's been on the losing end of a lunch thief as well and knew not only how to handle it, but to protect you as well. Good job!

When my Dad was a corporal laboratory technician, working in a hot climate for the British Army, he used to make his own lemonade to take in to work, for himself. But there was a Lemonade Thief. However Dad disguised the stuff, it was found and drunk.
So as a laboratory technician, Dad made up a batch of Reduced Methylene Blue. Methylene Blue is a harmless dye which is bright Royal Blue, (it is often used to check if human tissue is alive) but when it is in its reduced form, it is colourless, especially when kept in a slightly acid solution, like, say, in citric acid from lemons. However, when the acid conditions change...
So about mid afternoon, there is a scream of anguish from the toilet (aka Rest Room!)
"AAAAGH! MY PEE HAS GONE BLUE!"
Caught blue-handed. My Dad had enough authority to report the guy to the Sergeant-Major, who had enough authority to put him in front of the Commanding Officer on a charge of theft.
I believe the man was sent back to the UK 'on the next available', as they say, and discharged from the Army.

18:25 ... Lunch thieves are horrid monsters, but putting laxatives or anything you know can cause "issues" with someone in order to get back at them is legally a crime of intentional poisoning... UNLESS you have a doctor's prescription TELLING you to put it in with your food.
Without the doctor writing that very, very specific prescription, OP could face jail time (look up the criminal precedents for people doing this), but because the lunch was now a prescribed medication, OP is totally in the clear.

It's not poisoning when it's an OTC laxative. Poisoning would be using anything not meant for human consumption, like a pesticide, herbicide, or rodent killer.

I’ve been fired for not dating my bosses daughter. The boss then said a lot of homophobic things about me and called me a f***** at work and would just say horribly inappropriate things about me.
His daughter was cool, me and her were friends and got along well. I just had no interest in dating anyone and was more focused on work and school and I didn’t find her physically attractive.
Anyway I called corporate and mentioned the homophobic slurs and treatment I was getting at work and that I had spoken to a lawyer. They fired him and I got a raise.

There is a lot that goes into building a house and a few mistakes can cause problems with several different things within the house itself thus making it potentially unsafe to live in, not to mention that if the contractor messed up then everything else would be done incorrectly and resulting in the cost to go up. If I had a house built and the person who is supposed to be overseeing the work being done doesn’t show up then I would tell them to stop working call their boss and terminate the contract with them and tell them to take their stuff back and go rip off someone else

There is a saying in business that many entitled and toxic managers/executives never seem to remember:
"The ar$e of the subordinate you kick today, might be the ar$e of the person you need to kiss tomorrow"
Very few people stay in the same company or same industry for their entire career anymore. A subordinate in their company might one day be an executive at another company years later.

Food Theft Story: I once had a food thief at work...
At first, HR decided they didn't need to get their Lazy Asses off their seats and do their Jobs until I told them that if they didn't do their Jobs, I WILL call the Police and have not only the Thief Arrested but them as well as Accessories to the Theft...THEN I'd call the Ministry of Labour and make a Formal Creating a Toxic and Hostile Work Environment Complaint against them...
They decided to look at the Security Cameras (they were EVERYWHERE except the washrooms and changerooms because the Company Owner was slightly Paranoid) and caught (and Fired, I wasn't the only one he stole Lunch from) the Thief less than 45 minutes later...

I went to boarding school and we had a food thief, a very brazen food thief. No one was spared and everyone had had enough.
A plan was devised. It had to be kept top secret, or the unknown thief might find out
Several girls made a big delicious looking chocolate cake and mixed in a laxative product. They covered it with delicious chocolate icing and , after school hours, placed it in the shared refrigerator.
Being clever, they made sure to take out a slice, because this made it easier for the food thief to take a bit, due to the cake already being cut into 🙂
    The trap was set.
That evening, after we had returned from dinner we checked the cake and sure enough a slice had been taken - the thief had taken some and then pushed the cake awkwardly back together in an effort to make it look like it was before.
But they had taken a BIG slice 😳
There was also a big chocolatey thumb print on the lid of the Tupperware container 🤣🤣
    We waited.
Everyone was at their desks that evening doing school work, making noodles, cups of tea or generally relaxing in our pyjamas.
One girl however wasn’t at her desk, a staff member noticed and asked where she was, nobody knew.
This girl was found in the bathroom block, unable to leave the toilet 😳.
As soon as someone found out who it was, word spread like wildfire and food didn’t go “missing” again - well, not for a long while anyway.
It quickly became urban legend and was told to any new or junior students upon arrival.
No one was prepared to risk “borrowing” other people’s food EVER again.
Because you never know, you might be the one pooping yourself silly for hours and stuck on the loo for half the night lol:
I have to say, I’ve never looked at chocolate cake the same way since - but that chocolatey icing did look super dopper delicious 🤣🤣

19:03- UMMM...... at any job I've ever had including the salaried ones I have never signed a contract that stated that overtime was unpaid. So when the hell did that become part of a supposed "standard contract?"
As a salaried employee myself and my coworkers would laugh in the face of anyone trying to tell us our overtime was unpaid! And anybody who thinks that unpaid overtime is part of a supposed "standard contract",
PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE, DO NOT SIGN IT!!! The only thing "STANDARD" ABOUT THAT CONTRACT IS THE LEVELS AT WHICH THEY ATTEMPT TO SCREW YOU OUTRIGHT!!

Sounds like the post was NOT from the USA. But it also sounds like not paying for OT was illegal, but the employees agreed to it because they were working for a startup, and were made certian promises- like receiving equity, or getting the unpaid OT later on as a bonus once the company is making money. The company screwed OP out of both. So, as was their right, OP just asked for the OT they were legally owed.

Second story: There was an administrator who was demoted and transferred because of several issues (one being a love affair with one of the foremen which resulted in favoritism) . No one liked this lady and the staff were running around singing "The witch is dead. The witch is dead" (dead meaning gone). A couple of them came to me all smiles and giggles and wanted me to join in. I said, "The rear (not exactly the word I used) that you kick today, may be the one you have to kiss tomorrow. It doesn't concern you, so my advice is to stay out of it." This really got under their skin that I wouldn't join in. Sure enough, she filed a complaint, threatened to sue, and was reinstated a few months later. When we heard she was coming back, I looked over at one of the guys that I had 'advised" and before I could say "told you so" he said, "I KNOW, I KNOW! YOU SAID THIS COULD HAPPEN!" Lesson is, if it doesn't concern you, stay out of it.

In the second story regarding the house, when Fluff read that the door came completely out of the frame because it was wedged in there reminded me of the 1986 movie "The Money Pit" starring Tom Hanks and Shelly Long. Hanks and Long were a married couple that really could not afford but a con artist sold them at an unbelievably low price. Whatever you could think of that could go wrong actually did starting with the staircase actually collapsing. The movie is a laugh-a-minute and it is definitely worth watching.

I used to have a boss like the one story, but not nearly as bad.
He liked to think he was God’s gift to women and went around spreading stories about his exploit. Bit of a bravo peddler, who I ended up backing up against the wall at work after he made a quip about how he and my mom had “gone all night long” the previous night.
Not going to lie… I quite enjoyed the look of fear in his eyes as I went from being quiet and reserved to looking like I was going to whoop his arse was quite satisfying.
Flash forward a year and his antics came back to bite him in the behind.
I get a phone call, repeated phone calls, absolutely begging me not to tell the store manager what he had been saying. Ended up having to turn off my phone since he kept calling.
Also went to work at a different fast food chain with a fellow coworker and dude ends up applying. Let’s just say that we were pretty honest about what happened and his antics.
Fortunately I haven’t had anyone similar to him since then.
