- Schott 118 Perfecto Jacket Review www.revzilla.co... I really want to be sedated. Seriously guys, I'm really bored. Luckily, the punks over at Schott don't have a similar problem. They've been tirelessly making badass leather jackets for motorcyclists, movie stars, rock 'n' roll icons, and dorks like me! Now the average Joe can feel like Marlon Brando while strolling down the street in his brand new 118 Perfecto. His children will even feel cool, because this jacket will probably last long enough for him to pass it on to them. Very thick cowhide and an insanely high-quality construction means the 118 will last years to comes.

The 118 was introduced in 1977, closest you can get today to the original is the 618 & 613. They are totally worth the price, I bought $350 knockoff and then years later bought a real Schott the quality of Schott is 2nd to none. It makes my cheap knockoff look just that a cheap knockoff.
I wear a 618 while I ride all year long, mostly city traffic and commuting, the big open collar scoops up cool air in the summer and pulls it across your sides. If its sized properly the jacket will balloon up and keep a pocket of cool air around your whole torso. When it's too cold I just zip up the collar all the way to the neck, a nice wool scarf can fit down the neck of the jacket no problem and keep your chin warm on those below freezing days. I also have the fur collar and wear that from october to march. This is year 9 with my schott perfecto my first full year of riding a motorcycle with it. It's been my companion for a long time but it has more meaning to me now that I actually ride
I figured if you opened the jacket during summer it wouldn't cook you.

ALLENJAN TV most bike jackets these days come with soft armour in the shoulder, elbows and sometimes the back. If you search D30 armour you'll get a better understanding :)

It would have been nice to see how the collar lies when zipped all the way up. Some jackets of this style do not snug up to the neck very well.

I own one of these and it's heavy enough you do not need armour in it. Your right you can hand it down I bought mine in a vintage store.
HARMARSCH2 I got a schott jacket from my father he bought when he rode in the 70s and its still in amazing shape I'll probably be able to wear it my whole riding career too
+Sam Koch, A few years ago we came across a grassfire that was spreading faster than our boots could deal with it. One of the guys used his perfecto jacket to beat the flames out and after sponging and a few coats of leather dressing it was completely unmarked. I think that the leather that Schott use must be fireproof. Very reassuring when you could have a bike catch on fire.
Will wearing the collar unbuttoned and zipped all the way up ruin the crease? I have had my 118 for over a year and have NEVER worn all the way zipped except ONCE.
@RevZilla The 118 isn't the original. Nor did Marlon Brando and James Dean wear it. It was created in 1997 as a longer, looser and softer version of the original 618 because people were becoming taller, and it was modified in 1998 to accomodate for the rise of obesity in the US. Brando or Dean would have fit twice in this tent of a jacket that guy is wearing here. No blame on him for being a bit overweight, but shame on Schott for such inane design choices as keeping the collar and lapel the same size while the rest of the jacket was ballooned up. That's just bad proportion and it stresses any surplus weight the wearer may have instead of cleverly offsetting it. This guys looks almost obese in this jacket although he's just large.
Schott don't want you to realize this. They call the 618 "slim fit" or "trim fit" and pretend that the 118 was the normal cut when it really should be called fat cut.
And don't get me started about that new(ish) button to keep the belt buckle in place. If there was any final proof needed that even the "classic" Perfectos went from actual riding gear, or punk/ rock attire with a sense of danger, to fashion item for metrosexual hipsters, this is it. At the same time Schott terminated the 125, the removable belt version of the 118, which was THE logical alternative for people who don't like the hassle with half-belts. So why don't they just drop the riding pretense altogether and make some REALLY useful modifications, such as a normal chest? Bikers need a tight chest because a normal chest becomes flabby when the arms are raised forwards, but pedestrians don't. And a normal chest would make the Perfecto suitable for athletic guys, who currently have to put up with either a flabby waist or a restrictive chest.
For more than 20 years, the 118 has been neither fish nor fowl.

The 118 is a slight evolution of the original and is available in L or Lone version giving 2" extra length in the body so it actually can cover to the top of your jeans (Mr Ed the non talking horse must have a short torso as its a standard jacket). The L is only available on 46L & 48L but not on the Revzilla site lol.
the 118L is available in sizes 36 - 54
Also adds 1 inch to sleeve length.
Knox make a fully armoured shirt that would work well with this.
Got a police motorcycle jacket called Branded, same sort of style with pull out liner and detachable fur collar, heaviest motorcycle jacket I've ever had, kinda wish I would have got the schott perfecto instead . Cool jacket.👊👍
I have XL leather. Jacket now it don’t fit to big of a stomach I guess I’m 6ft 220 pounds
Having no armour is already a big issue but also my motorbike instructors specifically taught me to stay away from anything without double stitching when it comes to protective gear as if you slide down the road the first thing to go will be the stitching which holds the leather together, these aren't relevant protective jackets anymore, you should know better RevZilla.
The only thing I don't like about it is the belt buckle at the front. I have scratched my motorbikes' tanks several times with jackets like this. It is better to have the buckles on the sides.
As a short guy who has a bigger Santa Clause belly than chest, what do you recommend on sizing? I’m shorter and I’m only 5’6 (246 lbs), but my chest is 48, waist at belly button is 51, and my actual waist is 46. The Schott website says you should order your actual size but I’m afraid it might not zip up at the belly if I do so? Also, should I maybe consider the 613 due to my short stature? My fear with that model is that it has a slimmer fit.

The company site says the 118 as the lighter weight. Also do you have these in the long 28”?

I'm confused about the same thing. i thought the 6-series was the heavier leather. In this video, Anthony says the 6 series (steerhide) is stiffer and takes longer to break in. In the 613 video, he says the steerhide is softer and the cow/horsehide takes longer to break in. Which is it?!
If they could just put some armor in the jacket. It would end up being perfect 3 season coat. But without it. Honestly it's overshadowed by almost any jacket in its price point or even well below it's price point. What you're really paying for here is the craftsmanship and the name. Not so much the protection . Although I don't doubt it's got good slide resistance.

Schroeder_2000 Yeah, they say Brando wore the 118 in The Wild One, but his had stars on the epaulettes, and Schott seem to only do the stars on the 613.
I wear Xl sometimes xlt shirts 48" chest 44" around navel 45" waist 36.5" arms and 26" length 5'10 220 lbs.. What size would you recommend? No diet jokes please

My shoulders are wider than the person in this video. And I have longer arms..
dan bell Ed (video model) still has some room to "grow" in the shoulders. He also has room to "grow" in the sleeves as you can see by how the sleeves are stacking at his wrists. That being said, the 46 is most likely your best option. The 44 may be too small. -Hi-Viz Brian

YES to armor! This is a great jacket, as is the Café Racer but I think they should at least give you the option. I'd also like to see an option for some white, reflective striping.

i have another moto jacket that measures 50cm from armpit to armpit
and 45 cm from shoulder to shoulder
and arm measures about 65 cm
this jacket fits me perfect so i would like the same in schott

Is it a real motorcycle jacket? A motorcycle jacket is heavier with some protection for clavicles.
It does not have armor, but the leather is actually thicker than other motorcycle leather jackets. Some people wear the Perfecto over an armored shirt, so they get the benefit of the impact armor while getting the thicker leather and of course the Schott style. -DrewZilla

Could you help me with sizing. I don't ride but just love the rock n roll look of these jackets. I am about 5,10. my chest measurement is 38/39" and I am about 170lb. Ideally I would like it to be quite snug fitting (rock n roll look). From the video- Buzzsaw is a 45/46" chest and is wearing a size 44 and that didnt look particularly tight but the presenter said he could go "either direction depending on layering" so does that mean he could of went down to a 42? What size could I get away with?

+David Knox To clarify, Ed sized down to the 44 for a snug fit. Size 46 would allow him to layer more underneath. For you, you could probably fit a 36. If you don't want the thick quilted non-removable liner, I'd recommend going for the 525 Perfecto in size small. -DrewZilla

RevZilla it looks to fit him large, especially in the chest and arms. No offense to Ed but it looks as if he could size down to a 42 if it werent for the belly. Im an inch shorter and 10 pounds or so heavier but i carry my weight differently and i wear a 40 in a schott peacoat for a perfect slim but comfortable fit. Id love this coat but theres no where near me to try one on. Im not sure if their sizing is consistent among all styles of coats.

I really hope you never wear that on a motorcycle. jackets like that aren't meant for surviving a crash and the leather is super thin. there is no comparison between jackets like this and one you'd find for fashion

I agree that's how it starts, but it eventually does look awesome, except it's gonna take too fuckin' long to break in. Google Brandon Flowers (The Killlers singer) leather jacket. It's the same jacket, some stylist probably found a used one for him. I've been dreaming of owning one forever but it literally is impossible to find the exact right one with the right fit and texture. Ended up getting one from All Saints, still not perfect but as close as i will get I think.
