Hope wrote this with the intent to honor Cole, but also saying see you later for Army while he enlists. He deliberately gave his hero the beat, style and freedom to flow while he dances. The handoffs between rap and dance are sophisticated and satisfying. Thank you for hearing the ad libs, and the vocal qualities, as well as the mutual respect. “Hopified”💜😎
It's a dream come true for Hobi 🥺 like when I saw the mv shoot sketch, he has that all smiles and you really can see how happy and fulfilled he was while watching j cole filming his scene. He was there, watching him 😊
I watched Jhope’s documentary and it shows Jhope and Jimin meeting JCole for the first time, you can see how excited Jhope was to meet JC.
@@marydavis5234 yes. I watched his docu too and it was so inspiring and he really worked hard for everything and he's so detailed in every single thing he did for his album and even in his promotions. 💜 And I appreciated more his album knowing what he had been through to put it out.💜
@@armying_jkk I have the Astronaut cd and INDIGO cd and I pre-ordered both versions of FACE from Target, sadly for Jack in the Box, I don't have it yet as it too expensive for me right now, but I will be getting it after I buy the other 6 solo cds from the BTS members, it stinks that Itunes went to Apple products only for buying songs and my laptop is not an Apple made one.

Hobi is actually whistling! I'm just so proud and happy for him being able to work with the main artist who influenced him and the message, well it gave me goosebumps.

Yes Hobi is whistling it's how he started with the music. Yes J Cole is Hobi's Muse and it was lovely seeing they them meeting at Lollapalooza seeing Hobi fan boying and said 'Your my muse'. Hobi going back to the street to dance while J Cole was rapping is just right as that is how it all began for Hobi.
To say j-hope admires J. Cole is a huge understatement. He calls him his muse. This collab starts with dance. J-hope started dancing at 10 and was part of a street dance team by middle school. He lived and breathed dance. It was actually dance that led him to music, and it was J. Cole who inspired him to start writing his own. In this video, while J. Cole was on the roof rapping, j-hope was underground singing along in his first language, dance, just as he had done as a teen. The whole second half of the song was, in some ways, a duet. His dance life started on the streets and his music life started with J. Cole. With this song and video, j-hope pays SO MUCH homage and respect to J. Cole. The video is shot in the same style and in the exact same alley as J. Cole’s video for “Simba”, the debut single from his first mixtape “The Come Up” in 2007. The video was a look back at the roots of Cole’s career.
And the song was j-hope going back to his own roots, telling us, “For the path I’m on to become to become one of hope, I gave my all. Even my walk was made of your love and your faith.” He put absolutely everything he had into becoming someone who could give us hope and encouragement through his dance and his music, and in return we gave him our love and faith, which was energy to help him keep striving and pushing himself.
It had been a few days since I watched this video. Somehow it hit me almost as hard just now as the first time I heard it. Here I am in tears again. This song is Hobi’s farewell-for-now song before he leaves to serve his mandatory enlistment in the South Korean military. I’m so proud of j-hope and so grateful to J. Cole for working with him. I’m sad to have to say goodbye for a while but I feel BLESSED to be loved so much by our dearest Hobi.
I have a whole thing about the connection between J. Cole’s verse in this song and j-hope’s “Arson” but I’ll put that in a separate comment.
J. Cole’s verse in this song has strong parallels to j-hope’s Arson.
In Arson, j-hope talks about showering in petrol to burn hotter, run faster towards his dreams and success. But now he’s made it to the top and just keeps going faster. He knows he is the only one who can stop it.-

Do I put out the fire, or burn even brighter”
In On the Street, J. Cole talks about “fighting tooth and nail to prevail”, pushing hard to get to success before the “two minute drill” was over. Now he’s at the top and nobody can derail him. Just like j-hope, it’s not going to stop until he decides to. “I contemplate if I should wait to hand over the crown and stick around for a bit longer. I got a strange type of hunger. The more I eat, the more it gets stronger.”
It seems clear that j-hope’s answer to himself was to keep burning. J. Cole says his hunger is still getting stronger. Only they know what they will ultimately choose, but one thing is for sure, these two men worked really hard to rise to the very top of the game and the future is theirs to decide.
They make music that’s so good and we expect it but it still blows us away. Thus collab is simply a pleasure.

NIce to see you guys again! "Mellow but uplifting" -- that's a really good description of this song. I don't know how many times I've listened to this song by now and it never fails to put a smile on my face from the first note. The MV following J-Hope moving from dancing on the street to his idol's songs to rising to the top to stand beside J. Cole as an equal is pretty much perfect. (And can we talk about the line "You see a Top 10 list/I see a Golden Corral"? Yes king, you go eat!)
