Jhope was a street dancer before he joined BTS. He learned to rap with RM and Suga (the other rappers in BTS who underground rappers before BTS were) and his own persistence and developed his own style.
In Hip Pop Phile by BTS during Jhope's verse he said, "Hope hope world, before I built my own world, there was Cole world | When he lit up Friday night, |I became more inspired to write my own music". I am so glad that he was able to collab with one of his role models or someone that has inspired him.
This is song is so beautiful. This is his gift to ARMY (fan base) before he has to leave for mandatory military service.
Many people think the song kind of felt more like a JCole song, which I understand, but Jhope said before this was announced that he was "going back to the streets". So, I think that was the point. He is dancing more because that is what he did in the streets before BTS while listening to people like JCole. At least that is my interpretation.
I interpret the little boy two different ways. 1. being ARMY 2. himself in the past
Also the lil boy could represent him looking up to J Cole his inspiration. And at the end he's meeting J Cole.
Ppl who think that is possibly not aware of jhope's past. That's the only reason for someone to think thay this is more of a jcole song than jhope's. Army or not. U will understand this more, the simplicity and meaningful jcole's verse while jhope dancing if u know the meaning behind it.
The beat is actually produced by one of BTS hit producers, Pdogg. Jhope made the melody and came up with the whistle melody too. Just so you guys know.

Jhope gives more parts to Jcole, his muse, showing his respect(in my assumption). Given his hard work from the bottom to the worldwide-top, I'm so happy for him. Now Jhope works with his idol and have the idol in his music and dance along with his flow. What a great collaboration. This goodbye(for a while) song makes me sad, but his smile with his admirable artist soothe my heart.
J. Cole didn't produce this song, BigHit's in-house producer, Pdogg, worked on it. Although J. Cole is credited for having a part in composing and writing the lyrics!
Lots of symbolic imagery in this video, rites of passage to adulthood and growing up. JHope saying goodbye to the kid at the beginning as a way of saying he is letting go of his old self and saying goodbye to ARMY. The whole going in the empty metro station , symbolising the path he will have to go through alone ( his military service ) entering it by the exit sign /side saying it is something he cannot escape. And then exiting after Cole's verse as to say he will be back after some time.
Cole's verse is great and full of poetic images on internal struggle / battles ( which can also be interpreted as shout out to Jhope for going through what he's about to go through ) Like the first line , All hail the mighty survivor of hell, can be seen as him talking about his own struggles but also definetly as a sign of respect for Hope ( foreshadowing his comeback ) because many view Military as War and War as Hell. ( maybe I'm reaching but i def don't think so, metaphores and future projections are common things in hip hop lyrics )
Now everything could also be interpreted as the journey of JHope who is a fan of J Cole since his young age, all the work he did and the way he travelled to finally be able to meet his own Idol and inspiration.
So basically this is pretty much both of them saying to each other : Respect bro. Until next time.

@@LyleWilliams I would think I am also, but being a big fan of kpop in general, I can say without a doubt that, nothing you see or hear in kpop is without meaning. Even more so true for the visuals, sometimes there is crazy symbolism that you ( you, me , everyone) will not understand until really digging deeper into it. Even in the dancing, certain moves the make are there for very specific reasons. Best example would be in Dreamcatcher's video for the song Maison, didn't notice till after many viewings that in the choreo when the lyrics said the word Maison the actually did the sign language for the word Maison/Home.
Little details like this in everything with the K-industry and J-Hope is a kpop idol so, although I might me reaching, if I am, its really not that much. 100% on that.

J-Hope is using a lot of intentional symbolism in this video (the side street and intersection from what I understand is inspired by an early J.Cole video, the subway corresponds with JColes bars and the subway stop that inspired Jay Zs moniker, the journey through the streets, through the underground and to the pinnacle (rooftop) where he can finally meet up with his inspiration. He started as an underground hip hop street dancer (thus the underground scene) inspired by the Culture, and has always claimed JCole as a Muse and major inspiration...that's why he gave him 32 bars and danced while he rapped...he came full circle while also leaving this gift for his fans and paying homage to HIS OWN IDOL. DOPE

It’s not a random combo.. bts did a cover of j cole’s song a long time ago and j cole is j hope’s long time idol and he street dances so he use to dance to j cole’s tracks a lot. It’s a full circle moment before J hope goes to the military

Hi, I'm a 57 year old BTS ARMY, and my husband and I are both ARMY. My bias's in BTS are RM and J-Hope equally. I love all the members, but I have a soft spot for those two. All the rap line in BTS are incredibly talented and skilled MC's. J-Hope just announced his withdrawal of his military postponement, which means he is the next member to enlist for Mandatory Military Service. So Far, JIN was the only one that enlisted on Decebmer 13, 2022. They all have to serve 18 months. J-Hope stated in a livestream with ARMY's, that this song is a gift to us, like a good bye for now, until I return. BTS are all doing their solo projects right now before their enlistment.
You might want to check out some songs that pay homage to BTS's hip hop infulences, espcially since their roots are HIP HOP. They debuted in 2013 as a HIP HOP Idol group in South Korea. One of the songs is Born Singer, which is a remix of J-Cole's Born Sinner, and Hip Hop Lover, which shouts out their Hip Hop influences. I can link those with accurate subtitles. And J-Hope's solo project, that is a masterpeice, and his live headlining performance at Lollapalooza (dubbed HOBIPALOOZA after J-Hope's nickname HOBI). J-Hope finally got to meet his muse J-Cole at Lollapalooza. It was a full circle moement. And I believe this is an organic result of them meeting.
