Hello. I am a store owner and I sometimes encounter deaf customers and wanted to ask if you have a video for basic grocery/customer service asl. I know the basics like Thank you but I wanted to learn more so that they will be more comfortable :)
Great video! I stretch out my E, so people don't confuse it with A or S. The part about not wiping away nor pushing away mistakes is useful and funny at the same time.
Thank you for putting this is in my feed, but my fingers are seriously messed up from a rare disease. I'm blessed to be alive to finish my mission. I can certainly learn to understand ASL, though.
That’s a very great video you made. I agree with you that it will help your signers to practice with their fingerspelling. It will help the signers to fingerspelling a little bit more faster when they are having a conversation with the deaf people. Nice work Meredith! 😊😊
Hello! Really enjoying videos. I'm just getting started. For a future video, could you do signs that commonly get confused with one another for new learners?
Good ma am really learning from you am a student studing special education but i don't know how to sign at all ,following ur channel makes me to learn and have intrest in signing thanks ma from Nigeria ,God bless you
This video was so helpful. I know how to finger spell, but when I have to do it in front of my profesdorvor classmates I get nervous and all of the sudden Inforget how to do it
If I may make a suggestion, I can't afford Skillshare. I really love your content and the tips and tricks you give us to remember the signs just help me that much more. I thank you so much for your videos. With that being said, however, I'm on a fixed income, and every penny counts. I was wondering if it was possible that every once in a while, you do one of these classes on the channel?
How do you fingerspell things when your fingers won't cooperate? For instance: My fingers can't form certain things like the number 3; I have to use the Water sign?
Great question. I have trouble with W and having my pinky and index finger touch. I just do it the best I can, whatever! I just consider it like sloppy hand writing!
I see the first issue, spelling, was my worst subject and I rely 100% on spell check even here. This might be a real issue for me., but I will move forward with learning ASL.
Same I have a huge problem with spelling without writing it down. I have to see how I spell the word on paper or something. Not only that, but I also kinda suck at spelling at the same time. 😅
does it matter which hand you use for spelling? I am naturally left handed but I dont want to learn it all on one hand just to find out it looks flipped to everyone else!
As a culturally Deaf ASL Evaluator, Mentor, Master Tutor for over 28 years... here is a feedback to improve and stop spreading incorrect positioning of your arm.... your elbow is too unnaturally too high, it will create tension in the upper arm and shoulder muscles which in turn cause fatigue and a lot of errors. Be careful how you're teaching incorrect methods.
Agreed, but it's like when you are reading anything, you don't read letter by letter, you read whole words, but it IS more difficult in ASL because you have to remember what is being spelled rather than when you are reading you can see the entire word all at once AND because people in ASL think that they have to go a mile a minute for some special reason. Practice, practice, practice.

Thank you! This has helped me A LOT I get confused with finger spelling sometimes, and I do read the letters and not the word most of the time 😓
So glad this was helpful. You've got this!
Same here. I am new and I would read the letters and then have to remember them and put them together in my mind after to figure out the word. 😂
Great video! I stretch out my E, so people don't confuse it with A or S. The part about not wiping away nor pushing away mistakes is useful and funny at the same time.

Your teaching is such a blessing. ❤. You and the channel Chris does has really grown my desire to practice and better myself

Great segment, some of the most detailed info on finger spelling I have seen.
Thank you for this video. I always read the letters and not the word when I finger spell. So I will practice reading the word instead now.
It makes all the difference. It's a next level familiarity with all of the letters to get there. It will eventually come natural. Keep practicing!
Ouhhh!! Thank you for posting today/tonight! I’ve been having some problems with fingerspelling and this is really helpful. Thank you!

Great info, great tips. Thank you M!
Hi Meredith! I love your videos and I was wondering if you could make a video about zodiac signs in ASL! I would love to see it!💕❤️
This video was so helpful. I know how to finger spell, but when I have to do it in front of my profesdorvor classmates I get nervous and all of the sudden Inforget how to do it

this was so awesome
Thank you for your videos. They are extremely helpful and informative. How do you fingerspell without getting your fingers all jumbled up? Thank you
I practice fingerspelling a thru z everyday. Just to remind myself of all letters in the alphabet bc there are some letters you use more than others
I do this too
There’s a few I always have trouble remembering….f, p, q …no clue why, and I tend not to recognize them easily 🤷🏼♀️

I'm taking sign language.
It's not the signing I'm worried about; it's the spelling. Never been one of my strengths.
Same I have a huge problem with spelling without writing it down. I have to see how I spell the word on paper or something. Not only that, but I also kinda suck at spelling at the same time. 😅
Good morning
Morning
How do you sign the @ symbol?
You move an A handshape in a circle (for an email address, etc.) 😀
I have only known a few words in sign language. I would love to learn it, but I have no one to communicate with.
Can you please do vehicle signs
Also everybody that know how to sign don't sign the same like accents everybody don't pronounce words the same
Meen this one is tough
When I see someone fingerspell it is hard for me to read it without copysigning it. Is this considered rude?
does it matter which hand you use for spelling? I am naturally left handed but I dont want to learn it all on one hand just to find out it looks flipped to everyone else!
Are there times where there is a actual word but when it's signed it's technically ASL 'slang'
I can never tell which sides right and left on the videos
Same honestly

Do people use finger spelling to have full conversations instead of asl? Or is it meant to be a sub category of asl?
I don’t understand how to “read the whole word” instead of the letters. You keep saying that, but I don’t know how to do that.

Why are you talking in English and voicing? This will help hearing people learn ASL. You're also taking away jobs from Deaf teachers.
