Holy moly thank you so much this is awesome!!! I'm not deaf and I don't know anyone deaf but I still wanted to learn and with you i can!! thank you so much!!
Sign language is so beautiful 🥹 This channel has taught me SO MUCH! I just started learning from your videos a few days ago and I’m SO EXCITED! I recently met a person who’s hard-of-hearing (deaf) and it was such a pleasure to be around her. This was before your videos, so I was only able to communicate with her by pointing in a certain direction (when she asked for water by pointing at her bottle) or telling one another we were going to break by the basic “snapping” gesture, lunch was the “hand to mouth” gesture. But since that day, I’ve wanted to actually START learning the correct and proper way of communicating in ASL, and all I can say is it’s such a beautiful and lovely way of communicating 🥹👏🏼❤️ I wish for everyone to learn ASL 🙏🏼 Talking is overrated!! Lol jk. Thank you so much for sharing!! 👏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼
I'm really enjoying these videos! I have a high school classmate who I've been telling for the last couple years that I would learn ASL. She is hard of hearing and it's getting worse as we age. I'd love to be able to sign with her when I see her. Thank you!
I love your videos. I work for a fire department and I have seen sign language come in handy when I first started and have always wanted to learn. Your videos are easy to follow and well done. I know you have asked another video about ideas for videos maybe you can do one that would help first responders
GOOD MORNING. MY NAME IS KHUMO FROM SOUTH AFRICA.I AM A BEGINER. LEARNING SASL.THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEOS. THEY HELP A LOT. MOST SIGNS ARE SIMILAR AND THAT HELPS A LOT. SHALOM!😊
I'm just starting to learn ASL. is there a reason the "me" is at both the beginning and the end of sentences? can it be left off the end or would that be considered improper grammar?
I believe it's to make it easier for the person you're talking to to know when it's their turn? i think you may be able to leave it off in informal conversation (take this with a grain of salt as im neither deaf/HOH nor fluent in ASL)
@@hikk1pilled Yes, you are correct, she says so in another video. It's called a "closing signal". I don't know if it's okay to drop it in informal conversation or not, though.
That’s a very great video of questions and responses. It will help signers to understand the questions and answers. Hopefully that the signers will be using their face expressions. Meredith, I wish you the very best of luck in teaching students about ASL. Have fun! 😊😊
Your viedeos have helped me so much! I work with a few deaf individuals, and I feel taking the time to try and commucnicate with them hopefully makes them feel more included. It's easy to say a workplace is "inclusive", but if you don't take the time to at least try to communicate/understand people, is it really? Thanks so much; your videos rock!!
I have a question Meredith: why in ASL do we use the personal pronoun when introducing ourselves and not the possessive? Wouldn't that be saying "Me name is Anne?" Thank you for your amazing content!!
I have learned it as “My name …”. Seems there are multiple teachings out there. The other as she does it is more like “I so and so” except it’s not I it’s me but ASL doesn’t use letters so Me and I are the same sign.
I have a question that came up from this and the family signs video last week that I was reminded of regarding similar signs. I've noticed that "fine" and "formal/polite" are very similar to one another. From what I can tell, the difference is that "fine" is just two taps of the thumb on the chest, while "formal/polite" is the same handshape (or one that's slightly exaggerated with the fingers extended back) that "bounces" up, similar to how the sign for "happy" "bounces" up. I hope this articulates the question properly, I don't know technical terms for describing signs very well, so I tried to describe it the best I can. Thanks, as always!
I suppose because formal people in history were said to be fine gentlewomen or gentle ladies. They were very polite then. Watch “Sense and Sensibility”.
Darn, I won't have the money for several days. Hopefully you will be doing another intensive in the future. Until then I will keep watching videos. Thank you for your time and work put into it.
Video request!!! Can you please make a video on same signs that have different meanings. After watching a few videos I start to get confused where I have seen the same sign when it can mean something different in a different conversation
I’m hard of hearing and trying to learn some more basics to communicate with deaf customers. Is this signing of so-so/usual how you would ask a customer if they wanted the usual? Like their usual order?
I've always been curious about learning ASL. I want to get the hang of some basics. I don't have anyone in my family with auditory impairments, so I'm not sure how learning this would practically serve me. The lady reminds me of Liz Phair. Lol.
why is it you help want want instead of you want help you? i’m curious, these videos are so so helpful! i work at disney and my biggest goal this year is to learn asl to be more help to people :)
Someone please help me - does it matter which hand I use? If I do the opposite hands that Meredith is doing, is it OK or is it considered bad grammar or rude?
It's due to sentence structure, just like any other language. Most of the world's languages do not follow the English language structure. Instead of, 'I like to eat pizza' you say, 'pizza I like to eat' which is a common sentence structure for numerous foreign languages, just not English.
I am from India, I have learnt so many signs from your videos Can you please help 1)How can I sign up for skill share 2)will it help me in my career 3)where I can give exam.
Thank you for your work!!! Always wondering to learn the sign language. Now i have a few deaf co-workers, wish to speak with them, but they are Estonians, and i'm not sure if they understand me using ASL Is there's a big difference between sign languages?
yes, there are different sign languages, just like speaking languages. Lots of spoken languages have their own standard sign language that accompanies it. I don't know any, but it's probably best to look into Estonian sign language if they use it, or ask if they know ASL. Hopefully you can sign together.
You need to use darker colors or natural colors behind yourself not pinks and yellows. Some of the colors are just bright and hard to look at. Some your hands sort of wash out.
I’ve been learning ASL through her and in a week with practice every day I can have a basic conversation with my mute friend. So thank you.

@@karleepattenden9437 No, they said mute?
@@ehabe8530 I don’t care what they said it’s correct to say 'deaf'

You are so welcome!
Great job. Deaf people can understand better with ASL clear.
Thank you for this beautiful video and thank you for making me learn sign language easily.❤️🌹
It's my pleasure
Hello, I live in Kenya and I love your videos. We have our own sign language,KSL, but I like the teacher here😊.
What is the purpose of "you" at the end of a question if it's already signed at the beginning?
It's a closing signifier, meaning you're done speaking.

I wish I could afford this class. I'm definitely saving for the next one. Hopefully there being one, these videos are great!

Okay so “are you hearing?” Turns into “you hearing you?” But then what would “are you hearing yourself?” Translate to?

I’m hard of hearing and trying to learn some more basics to communicate with deaf customers. Is this signing of so-so/usual how you would ask a customer if they wanted the usual? Like their usual order?
I love just how simple it is. Like how bored is essentially picking your nose haha genius
Why do you have to say "you" at the beginning and end?
When I was in my twenties I learned sign language and learned completely different signs for certain words, never knew any difference
how do you sign "and"?
I've always been curious about learning ASL. I want to get the hang of some basics. I don't have anyone in my family with auditory impairments, so I'm not sure how learning this would practically serve me. The lady reminds me of Liz Phair. Lol.
What about countries or currencies? Do we finger spell them out or are there signs?
Could you do a video on how to sign words in the beauty industry? Like eyebrows, would you like your hair done?
Thank you so much
I want to know why do you have to repeat the word “you” before and after some questions?
thank you so much for this because in my new school i will meet many people who can't here
I have a question, if you don’t end the sign in a closing signal, is the sign completely wrong or will someone still understand? Just wondering
why is it you help want want instead of you want help you? i’m curious, these videos are so so helpful! i work at disney and my biggest goal this year is to learn asl to be more help to people :)

Make sure you use your dominant hand. My dominant hand is my right hand.
I like this.
Got a doubt Why can't we just sign directly for some sentences like for i learn asl we can sign me learn asl me instead of me asl learn me

what is the best order of the vidios? for a beginner?
When can we get the rest of the WH signs? Where can I find them??

I got confused with the same'ol one because thats also the sign for routine
Why is the sound muted at the end?

Sign for “sleep” There are four different types of sleep in ASL
1. Fall asleep
2. Sleep
3. Drowsy
4. Shut down sleep
I don't understand how the "question sentences" r formulated...it feels like I'm signing backwards.
Is "yes me learn asl me" ok too or no?
