This album never got much praise. I really like it. I am quite a fan of some bands like Deftones and Disturbed and this sound incorporates a lot of their traits. I think it is pretty cool Primus tried it out.
John Rodgers the album was difficult time for them, their record company didn’t trust them no more and they weren’t getting along very well so i can’t really blame them. But antipop is my favorite primus album. It sucks so much!
@@mirak63 I don't think it's because Tim left because they actually performed a lot of songs from the Brown Album with Tim and Jay, but almost none from Antipop. Les talks about it in the Electric Grapevine book, basically he's not proud of a lot of the songs and his and Ler's friendship was getting really strained.
One of the reasons I love Primus is that fact that they almost always leave room open for everyone to improvise and put their own twist on each song.I am a bassist but I love when I hear a drummer, guitarist, etc. mix it up a bit a lead me to try something new. I always have a blast jammin' to Primus :)
Victor Wooten and Les Claypool have two completely different styles of music and therefor cannot be compared to each other. My proposal: Listen to and enjoy both.
I have had friends say Primus sold out when they made the Antipop, now I disagree, sometimes bands want to try out and experiment new sounds, les maybe wanted some heavier stuff, or maybe larry or brian wanted to, anyway I love it along with all there albums.
Antipop is my favorite (kinda guilty pleasure knowing that les don’t like it) and now pop singers like justin bieber or Ariana Grande are born sold out.
@@remyvilleneuve4879 I read an interview with Les where he says that this album is his least favorite because of the tough time the band has been going through, not so much because of the music. There was a lot of pressure from the record label and it seemed like primus wouldn't last for much longer because they weren't becoming popular enough as the other bands on the same label. So instead of conforming to record label's requests they did their own thing and decided to go out the way they wanted to, which is actually where the name of the album comes from.
Everyone praises Claypool, and while he is amazing, without Ler Primus would sound nothing like Primus at all, he is a key component to he sound, critical to the sound.
Primus always had heavy songs but this album by far takes it up a notch. In a great way it's so bad ass. Nutbutters house of sweets and pudding time are the heaviest before this album in my opinion.
Aden Osborne he plays bass (guitar) so he is a guitarist, a bass guitarist, shorten to a bassist, not to mixed up with racist, even though most bassist are racist against pick users
Yeah, I bet it was an awesome show. I heard they played Sailing the Seas of Cheese front to back too. They should do it with Pork soda now, that will be cool!!
I heard they were supposed to go back into the studio to make a new album after they're done touring but I heard that months ago. Hopefully in the near future we'll hear new Primus material. It's been long enough don't you think??
But Anti-Pop was recorded with producers like Fred Durst and Tom Morello and it was recorded in a top dollar studio..the production alone on the album makes it their most "pop" album. It was geared to the youth and to sell records, hence the emphasis on songs rather than Les' bass playing. There's a reason Les doesn't play any songs off this album. He hated the direction the band was moving in.
Hmm... Les seems to hold the neck at more of an angle in this video than he usually does, at least at the beginning. He generally holds it really horizontally which is probably why he looks so cool while playing.
@meanjeandj- "Primus Sucks" USED to = "Primus Rules," Les got tired of it a few years back.. but thanks for trying to educate!... PRIMUS USED TO SUCK!!!
idk much about primus, but i seriously don't think they "hated the direction the band was going in". les is a very smart dude and he wouldn't have done that by accident. It was probably purposeful to make a "pop" album, and have a song on it called "anti-pop". like i said, i dont have any primus albums, but I do like them and I know Les Claypool and his zappa influence. He's no fool
this is the first song I ever learned to play all the way through and my real introduction to slap bass. It's an easy song but it never gets old jamming out or listening to it! PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
I think that the progressive metal production is not that commercial, it just sounds great. I believe that their less-produced albums are much more pop-sounding and that they made Antipop because they wanted to make a more progressive metal-y record, not to make money.
Yea its a lil bit sad, tho I hate the way the music industry is, some production direction in order to sell is actually a good thing for success of an artist. I think they should be proud of this album, it was a success regardless who was editing the shape of the songs. At least they didn't change their original feel. Most bands aren't so lucky!
@ButtsexV2 Pop music means geared to youth, recorded in high dollar studios, made to sell to the masses. NOTHING Primus has EVER done can even be remotely considered 'pop'.
i dont mean it sounds like frizzle fry. i mean if u were to pick one song off this album to be frizzle fry, this would be it. it is basically the epic/best song off of this album. no?
What he means is that "Primus sucks" has been the crowd chant for years now, although Les Claypool got a little sick of it towards the end. Its like the version of the Chillis socks on cocks. Funny at first, but gets a little annoying after a while...
primus! they own, lmao hahha at 3:46 claypools mouth doesnt match what hes saying, hes saying the word "the" but his mouth is wide open like almost in an "o" shape lol and at 3:58-4:00 lol hahah what kind of dance is that!? XD
Its hilarious that they played antipop when being broadcast on a pop tv station. Well played guys.
This album never got much praise. I really like it. I am quite a fan of some bands like Deftones and Disturbed and this sound incorporates a lot of their traits. I think it is pretty cool Primus tried it out.
+s695579 yeah this album rules
Antipop is my favorite Primus album
I miss this heavy primus.
To this day they still play antipop lol
Les is a God, he makes his bass playing look effortless
Blows my mind people don't like this album. Including the band! Apparently they never play any of the songs from it live since getting back together.
John Rodgers the album was difficult time for them, their record company didn’t trust them no more and they weren’t getting along very well so i can’t really blame them. But antipop is my favorite primus album. It sucks so much!
Primus hated it, most people say "Primus sucks" and put it on repeat to spite the band, it sucks man
It's because Herb Alexander left. He doesn't like the brown album much either.
This is the first slap bass song i ever learned to play and still one of favorites to jam out to. Great song!
One of the reasons I love Primus is that fact that they almost always leave room open for everyone to improvise and put their own twist on each song.I am a bassist but I love when I hear a drummer, guitarist, etc. mix it up a bit a lead me to try something new. love it when les does the crazy dance
this bass sound man
HMDopeman Id give my left nut for that sound lol
I’ve had this song stuck in my head for like a month. I love it
I’ve had it stuck in my head every day since 2000… 23 years now 🫠🫠🫠
Victor Wooten and Les Claypool have two completely different styles of music and therefor cannot be compared to each other.
My proposal: Listen to and enjoy both.
This is the first song I learned all the way through on the bass. It's still one of my absolute favorites.
I have had friends say Primus sold out when they made the Antipop, now I disagree, sometimes bands want to try out and experiment new sounds, les maybe wanted some heavier stuff, or maybe larry or brian wanted to, anyway I love it along with all there albums.
Ah I remember middle school too. When we said shit like "sold out".
Antipop is my favorite (kinda guilty pleasure knowing that les don’t like it) and now pop singers like justin bieber or Ariana Grande are born sold out.
Your friends were idiots

One of the best songs in the whole freaking world.
It's great cause it's true.:)
Everyone praises Claypool, and while he is amazing, without Ler Primus would sound nothing like Primus at all, he is a key component to he sound, critical to the sound.
The first guitarist was todd huth. Are saying when he was the guitarist, Primus wasn't Primus?
This is so funky, I love it.
I didn't know 'funk metal' was a thing until I got to know them🤔
Fully Diggin it
I'm seeing them live this fall! YAY
Yeah, it's been 9 years!!
11 years ago you posted this, so how does it feel now knowing it's been 20 years?
This song is pure badassery...powerful
man this song has a killer groove
One certainly can't accuse them of selling out (that would entail compromising artistic vision for popularity). They did what they wanted to do.
Awesome song, can't wait to hear their next album!!
Primus always had heavy songs but this album by far takes it up a notch. In a great way it's so bad ass. Nutbutters house of sweets and pudding time are the heaviest before this album in my opinion.
Actually les is a bassist not a guitarist but yes he is THE best bassist on planet earth.
Aden Osborne hell yeah
Aden Osborne he plays bass (guitar) so he is a guitarist, a bass guitarist, shorten to a bassist, not to mixed up with racist, even though most bassist are racist against pick users
Awesome album!
FUCKING AWESOME
one of my favourite Primus songs, thanx for uploading!!
How can the people hate this majestik music!! its awesome!!!!!!!!
luj0va primus sucks was there slogan at the time

Thank goodness for that.
The man you cannot stop!
Son chingones estos weyes, me laten un chingo...
Yeah, I bet it was an awesome show. I heard they played Sailing the Seas of Cheese front to back too. They should do it with Pork soda now, that will be cool!!

You sir, have won the entire fucking internet.
=D
I heard they were supposed to go back into the studio to make a new album after they're done touring but I heard that months ago. Hopefully in the near future we'll hear new Primus material. It's been long enough don't you think??
LMAO Omg your right...
I just relized that... i was always wondering what that was all about...
Haha i love how you describe Les's voice as creepy
But yes, Les's voice is awesome and perfect for Primus
Larry lalonde is everithing all !!!
Hell yeah, this doesn't even compare.
Put the volume on MAX for more pleasure...
deffinetly up there
i fucking LOVE PRIMUS
i love antipop man wooooo
Hmm, one of their more metal songs. I switch back and forth on if i like the metal tinged stuff more, or the bluegrass/country tinged stuff better.
But Anti-Pop was recorded with producers like Fred Durst and Tom Morello and it was recorded in a top dollar studio..the production alone on the album makes it their most "pop" album. Nirvanablue89 except dirty drowning man
I love Antipop as well, Even the worst song/album released by primus is better than the best song by 99.99% of most other artists out.
I miss Primus.
A shame they don't play anything live from this album anymore. Saw this live in 99 and it sounded amazing.
Fucking brilliant
inhale! inhale!
Gotta love a band that comes out and says "we're primus and we suck" and then put on a killer show. haha
Sweet! This is nw to me.... I love some Anti-pop; hella under-rated album by most Primus fans.
especially on bass since you have to make sure not to buzz
Hmm... Les seems to hold the neck at more of an angle in this video than he usually does, at least at the beginning. He generally holds it really horizontally which is probably why he looks so cool while playing.
damn! i have souch problems with lerning how to slap play, can u give me some tips?
primus are great though. They're a good combination, amazin bassist and great guitarist and drummer.
I wish I had a cool leather cap too..
I just can't help myself... the voice of the girl in the beginning... ROFL
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!
Genious! :p sounds like an MST3K fan

@ButtsexV2 Pop music means geared to youth, recorded in high dollar studios, made to sell to the masses. NOTHING Primus has EVER done can even be remotely considered 'pop'.
How about this one?

at 1.39 it looks like even the security gaurd is having a good time
@TheBassJackson john entwhistle rivals that spot with him
l think this is one of the few Primus songs l prefer the album version than live
What he means is that "Primus sucks" has been the crowd chant for years now, although Les Claypool got a little sick of it towards the end. Its like the version of the Chillis socks on cocks. Funny at first, but gets a little annoying after a while...
@meanjeandj true, true
after this happens, that must be "They're Here" from Poltergeist
at 1.39 it looks like a security gaurd is having trouble keeping the crowd calm
primus! they own, lmao hahha at 3:46 claypools mouth doesnt match what hes saying, hes saying the word "the" but his mouth is wide open like almost in an "o" shape lol and at 3:58-4:00 lol hahah what kind of dance is that!? XD

His version is awesome!:) but they are two totally different artists though..
I cant belive people still dont know what primus sucks means yet. It is sarcasm and has become thërę ćäłłśïgñ…
i care :-j
@ButtsexV2 they had ONE gold album NONE platinum. Calling Primus 'pop' is laughable.
