  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The Heavy Duty Ram 2500 has been revised with air suspension and a brand new 410-horsepower 6.4-liter Hemi V8 option. The Ford V8 F-250 Super Duty and the Chevy Silverado 2500 HD directly compete with the new Ram for buyers and bragging rights. Recently Nathan and Roman had the chance to drive all three American Heavy Duty trucks back to back. In another fun and informative TFLtruck mashup review they boys not only review the pickup but they also find out which one is the fastest 2500 truck in the land. Is it the best-selling Ford F-250 Super Duty or the about to be revised Chevy Silverado 2500 HD or is it the new Ram with the big HEMI. Check out the video to find out.

    Ford, Dodge, and Chevy owners give each other crap all the time. But when it comes down to it, the one they all hate, is Toyota.

    Hello Garrett Payne, I was reading your comment and honestly I am a Ford man. However, I purchased a 2015 Ford F250 Superduty crew cab XLT with 4 wheel drive and a 6.2 L gas engine and I truly love it. I have a lawn service and it pulls my trailer with no problem. I do understand what you mean about the squatting with a heavy load, I have been looking into maybe getting AUTOFLEX in the future at a cost of about $3500. I think you will really love the Ford

  • @preston121068
    @preston121068 10 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Short, simple truth.
    Ford has developed and incorporated some really good tech in engine designs, suspensions etc where as Chevy has been at basically a standstill since 2005-ish in this area.
    Dodge/Ram has improved some big flaws they used to have in design and reliability, but personally I am not sold their transmissions are all that good.
    Chevy, as mentioned, have fallen behind both Ford and Dodge/Ram in almost every aspect. Look at any comparison of the 3 auto makers and the end result will always be Ford, Dodge/Ram then Chevy. From their police cars to their personal cars/trucks. Every comparison is exactly the same from legitimate comparisons.
    As for the 3 trucks here, if you want old school tech, but pay more for it, buy the Chevy. If you want middle of the road tough yet comfortable truck, get the Ram, if you want the best built all out work truck for less than the Chevy, get the Ford. Ford isn't the best selling truck in the world for nothing you know.

    • @preston121068
      @preston121068 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Yeah Ford dropped the V10 in 2014, it never was a great engine. The 6.2 V8 was always the much better more dependable engine, you just sacrifice some low end torque vs the V10

    • @epicned3837
      @epicned3837 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dodge's transmission was great around 2004. I was talking to a Cummins executive and he wished he didn't sell his 2005 Dodge Ram. Ever since Fiat bought it, it went bad.

      James Thompson True, but at the same time this is what each offers in comparable trucks, so it's justified. Though I would think they would do a better test than just a 0-60 for heavy duty trucks...

    People don't buy these types of trucks for speed. They buy them for (1) hauling capacity (2) longevity of engine. (3) fewest problems and lowest maintenance (4) cosmetic looks and how it sits and rides. (5)MPG .. everything else is whoee.

    A very relevant video, thanks for testing the gas HD models. It is true that the diesel versions of these same trucks outperform the gas models in the following areas: torque, fuel economy, possibly longevity, and sometimes horsepower. However, diesel engines bring a plethora of negatives as well. Start with the usual $8k option for the diesel engine, and add far more expensive maintenance costs. Factor in a 40-50 cents per-gallon increase in the price of fuel. Think about the additional expense of the exhaust fluid replenishment. Consider the possibility of very expensive problems which can develop as the vehicle ages. And lastly mull other 'diesel' issues such as poor cabin heat during the winter, sometimes starting issues, frozen fuel lines, and also engine issues developing from long periods of idling. Yes, the diesel engines can pull heavier trailers (at least more easily than a gas), and tend to have significantly higher resale values. Fuel economy is better, but not vastly so. Combined with the higher priced fuel, there are basically no savings. The other factor is that gas HD engines have improved...they are putting out a lot of power, and are more fuel efficient than ever. Maintenance costs are low, and they have none of the diesel side effects.

    Gents, as an old ¾ ton truck owner who wants to compare the competitors newest models I stumbled over your video. Taking into account your point that you get “15 min” with each truck and you want to point out highlights, this review was off the mark. I would rather see a 15min video on each truck pointing out pros and cons with a 10,000 pound trailer rather than a 19 minute compilation video. Most of us would rather see the diesel but since you had gas models you could have done the same. Now, go back, get the trucks and give us 3 videos of the trucks. Oh yea, I would rather see the 60 to 0 MPH over the 0 to 60. They all go fast, but can they stop with a load on?? Thanks

    Even with the newer interior, the chevy is just behind the curve. I had a 2012 silverado z71 fully loaded and it fell apart before it even hit 40,000 miles. It went into the shop 3 times in the 2 year span I had it for a/c issues, complete computer failure, and then the trans went out (6 speed). Every piece of interior plastic rattled. It's not the only chevy I've owned but it seems like they just aren't any good anymore. I wanted a 2014 until I test drove one. Ended up in a ram.

    The Ford EcoBoost has issues, and the minute you tow something, the gas mileage is almost literally cut in half.
    The 2014 Silverado's Ecotec3 engines are designed to get maximum fuel efficiency, the way a truck is used- hauling, towing, etc.
    GM is doing big things, not only with the engines, but the whole interior, exterior, My Link, Remote Link app, 2 years free maintenance, and one of the best warranties (and highest JD Powers ranking).

    Anyone arguing that fords or dodges are better than chevys check it: Chevy has made the best gas motor known to man which is the 5.7 liter 350, Chevy is noted for having the best transmissions out of the 3 brands aka Allison Transmissions, The 6.6 Duramax has never been known to cause much trouble, the 454's are the best of the bigger gas motors, will pull around a 7.5 460 Ford or an 8.0 V10 Dodge any day. Lets not forget chevys crate motors. Granted ford's 7.3 diesel was badass they also made the worst diesel known to man also known as the 6.0. Fords triton 5.4's were junk, 7.5's are junk, their 5.8s arent bad, and the newer 6.4's arent anything special, fords also have the worst transmissions of the 3 brands and anyone who says ford is american better check again, engines made in mexico. Now onto dodge, Their 5.9 diesels are badass, the 318's are pretty good, 360's are iffy, their 6.7 diesels are junk, their 8.0 V10's are iffy, and dodges rot way worse than a chevy or ford. I personally prefer in this order Chevy, Dodge, Ford. So let me break it down. If you want a truck thats going to be comfy and luxurious buy a ford, if you want the fancy looks buy a dodge, if you want the performance of a truck and something thats going to tow a trailer, haul some wood and get the job done, buy a Chevy. And while your on here search up some tug of war videos and let me know what truck wins majority.

      Anyone who disagrees with this guy is a moron. Ford is best selling because they have good deals on fleet sales. The only thing they picked out bad about the chevy was the size of the radio screen which has nothing to do with how you use a work truck. But to make everyone happy they made the nicest cab out of the 3 for 2014

      454s are good for splitting in half when you get some miles on them and the heads on that motor are trash. The 5.7 is a good engine but hardly ''best gas motor known to man''. The dodge 318 and ford 5.0 truck engines from the 90's are just as good if not better than the 350 engines of that time. Thats not including the rest of the truck minus the engine and thats where you will see why chevy is behind ford.

    first of all its all about the torque when it comes to trucks. so this should have been about towing. but since your going from 0-60 then you should have warmed up the tires first. I like chevy cause if you ever need to do work on em it's easy, less expensive. Ford is dependable but seems shocks go out fast. Rams have prob with transmission after towing so much. Ford is the prefered all around truck. now get back to work you desk jockey

  • @MrSkyentist
    @MrSkyentist 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The engines are not detuned but have a different cam profiles for where they make power. Trucks need torque across the board so peak power is typically sacrificed. The ram had potential but fell short with the transmission. It sounded like it fell too low into its powerband when it upshifted. Since hemi's normally produce their power higher in the rpm band, that probably hurt the times.

      I know for a fact your 89' cannot tow as much as a NEW pkup, at least w/o exceeding Chevy's ratings in 1989. Now if you plan to exceed your ratings, who's stopping someone with these newer beasts from doing the same...Nothing, because we all overload our trucks, well at least I do on a regular basis. That Ram is about 300lbs heavier than the base model. Yes, 300lbs make a massive difference in 0-60 times. Try that out next time. Base vs base. Or, get the top-of-the-line Ford and Chevy, and then test them against this Ram. The Ram will be faster each time it's put against trucks of the same weight.

    • @Stonemasters11
      @Stonemasters11 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You should get your facts straight bloodstained. The poor innocent young folks who have to read your ASSumptions simply because 1+1=3 in your mind. Ford has and still is the heavyweight of the class. Even after boxing there frames the Ram still is anywhere from 250-400#'s the featherweight. Difference is Ford has heavier components and there chassis is much thicker although open C. When 18 Wheeler Tractors start converting to box frames than I'll consider Fords chassis in there HD application as "Old Tech!" Until then it's known in the Working Mans World as "PROVEN TECH!"

    I don't understand why people bash gasoline trucks. I use a gas truck for livestock hauling instead of a diesel. They are cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, don't require DEF, gasoline is cheaper, and the fuel economy has gotten worse on new diesel trucks to the point where it is similar to gas. I don't have to worry about no-idle laws at rest areas or fuel availability. A gas truck pulls almost as well as a diesel loaded. I get 300k miles out of them. The one drawback is weak engine braking.

    just ask yourself one question, who ever goes into a dealership and dreams of having a Ford gasser in a F250? lol almost nobody!!!!!!!! i never see Ford Super duty trucks driving around with a V8 gasser, its 99% of the time a 6.7L diesel. Now on the other hand, you see way more 6.4L Hemi trucks driving around. LOL Ford should just stop making Gas motors for 3/4 ton trucks, they are the worst out there. GM and Ram actually have great reliable motors. GO RAM!!!!!!

      Non of the gassers are as exciting as their diesel counterparts, but the 6.2 in the ford is a good engine. People just see the 6.4 hemi badge and think it must be more powerful than the others because it's bigger lol. If that was the case it shouldn't have been out performed by the much older 6.0 chevy hd.
