I wasn’t receiving fuel into the pump this weekend on my ford 150 and I was happy to see that it was just a blown fuse that I needed to replace to fix the problem. This video helped me take care of all my worries this weekend, thanks for the help. I am in love with the fuse box now!
so my 2010 F150 with a 4.6L V8 used to stall on me randomly... and I researched .. some said the Canister Valve... some said the fuel pump.. until I read about Fuse 27... so far your video is the BEST EVER I can't thank you enough.... I did the fuse relocation and it was really really easy !!! Thanks and please keep making more videos .... I'm now a subscriber at your channel
Thanks for a great video! Put my kit in today without even needing the instructions after watching the other day. Thanks again for a very thorough video!!
This video save me a lot of time and money...this happened to me in my 2014 F-150....after watching this video I check that yellow 20 amp fuse and it was fried...New fuse and it started right up...thanks for the info..my friend had the same problem and he had his truck towed, worked on, and 1200.00 dollars later his truck is running...makes you wonder if these shops rip you off or be honest and tell you it was a 2.00 dollar fuse....doesn't appear to be the case for him, they sold him a new fuel pump and relay switch...thanks again for info!
Had a truck full of groceries and the damn 2013 f150 didn't start. I didn't hear the fuel pump hum when I turned the key so I knew it was a fuel problem. Checked the fuse and it was charred. I will be ordering this kit today. Thanks for the video, it's always easier after you see it done.
Mine was cranking, not starting, opened it up and the thing is melted. Not sure what the fuel pump itself sounds like, fingers crossed this is my last issue for a while after having a stuck caliper and failed ignition coils all in the same month when this also happened.
My daughter got stranded today in her work truck because of this. Many thanks to the guy in north Georgia who stopped and diagnosed the problem. I was able to talk her through finding an unused 20 amp fuse to get her going. Great video!
Hey man you just saved me. I went to get a pizza and wouldn't start. While waiting for triple a, I Looked on TH-cam , About 2 mins into the video I checked the fuse..sure enough it looked burnt near the bottom..I pulled it out in two pcs. Put in a 20 amp ( gotta keep extras ) started right up cancelled the tow call and got home with a cold pizza but I got it home🍕. TH-cam is awesome. Thanks
My 2013 F150 died while accelerating onto the freeway semi truck almost plowed me. Limped my truck to local dealer told me that code po230 loss of power to fuel pump. Ford has a TSB on this and this problem could have cause my death. We Ford owners need to elevate this to the National Safety transportation board and force Ford to recall and repair or reimburse all truck owners. Cost me 350.00 to fix as I am disabled and can not work under the hood any longer. Pissed as all hell that Ford was aware of this issue since 2014 and never corrected this.
This video and the F150 Forum helped me diagnose why my truck suddenly wouldn't start. Fuse #27 Fuel Pump was burnt up. Ford won't correct this but they will sell you a fix. What a crock of S***.... Thanks for the video!
My fuse wasn’t melted and neither was the wires below the fuse 27. Im guessing the fuse terminals are just warped from the heat. I bough the kit for $25.00 kit and moved wire and truck runs fine. MOTORCRAFT WT56872
@Joe Casson You're mistaken, way under a 100K. It's a crock because it would be a simple fix on Fords part but they have chosen to profit from it rather than correct it. Have a great day!
Just bought this kit for my 13’ raptor. Apparently it’s notorious for randomly melting suddenly either from low miles to high miles. Don’t wanna take a chance and have it melt in the hot desert and be stranded in the middle of nowhere with no cell reception and then have an expensive tow. $25 off amazon and next day delivery is good insurance.
This should be a safety recall. My truck has shut down on me several times while driving on the interstate and once between concrete barriers in a construction zone. There was a semi coming up behind me and luckily I had hit my flashers but if I hadn't, he would have ran up my ass!
I knew this was an issue so when I went to start my truck and it didn't fire up I knew exactly what it was. I will be purchasing this kit to get it fixed properly. I forgot to put my extra fuses back in and I was in a hurry so I saw the horn was a 20amp so I grabbed it and left and put a new fuse in the horn slot.
Thanks! I subscribed and clicked like because you nailed it for me. 2012 F150 FX4 4x4 5.0 82k miles. Won't start; starter cranks and engine never starts. Checked fuse socket and it is melted. Bought the kit for $20.00 from local ford store. Tell Ford there is a TSB for this and they'll find it or as JDOG mentioned below part no. MOTORCRAFT WT56872.
Thanks for the video! I'm doing this soon, just had my #27 crap out and my truck wouldn't start. Don't want that to happen again. Cheap insurance for a $20 part.
Known about this issue for a few years. Bought the repair from kit from Ford (shame on Ford for knowing about this and not doing a recall), but have had the kit for over a year waiting to see if it happens to me. Well tonight it happened tonight and yes the factory fuse is burnt up. It's 38 deg outside and the wind is a blowin'. So it will have to wait until the weekend. Why to I procrastinate on these type issues. :(
Definitely purchase fuse relocation. Also in a 2013 f150 5.0 replace relay number 8. This relay will also give the same issue as the small 20amp fuse. Had truck at dealer three time. Same result, none.... Cheap fuses, relays are always cheaper than going to stealership. Also fix fixed 6R80 transmission myself. ISS, OSS, sensors/ lead frame for under $400.00. Stealership wanted over $1500. Not a bad job just a little messy. Only special tool needed was a inch pound torq. Wrench. Buy a digital Torq Wrench. Divide foot pound by 12 to get inch pounds. Take your time go slow only took 2 hours in driveway.
(Electrical) Heat comes from resistance, which comes from a bad connection, not a bad/poorly designed fuse. No fuse will survive a bad/dirty connection. I've melted 1ga welding cable because of a bad/dirty connection. My '13 has never had an issue. Remember this: dielectric grease is your friend...
I just move it to the left side, just outside the fusebox with a ATO fuse holder. The ATO fuse handle the current just fine, put label in fusebox and label in owner manual on the fuses page.
This was great! Didnt even watch the vid, just FFed to the picture and pulled the fuse @ :52 where the red circle showed and it was broken. Fuse was GOOD, but prong was broke. Replced it with a 15A from the A/C module and turned right over. F YA. Thank you!
Got my kit today. Heat gun I ordered wont be here for another week. Can I just use black electrical tape to wrap that wire instead of waiting? Did it already. Hardest part was getting the clips unlatched to put it up from the bracket. Saw the red and blue wire right away....snip and a snap and I was back in business.
What year of F150 was this rectified by Ford? I know my 2016 doesn't have the fuse box in that location, so I'm unsure of the year span that this modification is needed?
Got this problem currently with my 2014. 3 days out of my 3 year warranty and Ford refuses to fix this issue even though it is completely a manufacturer defect. Total BS. refused to pay for the diagnostic and walked out with my keys. Ill get this kit and fix it myself for free. Ford wanted $653 bucks to fix this btw.
That unfortunate I have a 2013 FX4 Loaded 6.2L in Saudi Arabia, it comes B2B warranty 3years/60K Kilos and 5years/200K Kilos for drive train and mine was covered under it. Anyway that is a problem seems to be with almost all of 2013-14 F150.
can you not just simply replace the burnt non working #27 fuse?? Instead of having to put on a relocating kit, just maybe keep several #27’s on hand right? and use them as needed or am I missing something
That fuse heats up and distorts the fuse box over time and any replacement fuse will cease to function correctly. The relocation kit allows for a larger fuse that will not melt, solving the problem for good.
M W most modern vehicles the fuel gauge is controlled by a sending unit with a little float that controls the fuel gauge on the dash and its all built into the fuel pump. So even if the fuel pump works fine that part on it can fail and your fuel gauge on the dash won’t work. I’ve seen that happen a lot on chevys and fords at work. New fuel pump fixed it
Maybe you can help with my scenario. I have a 2013 F150 3.5 Ecoboost. After i drive it & it's at operating temperature, i shut it off and upon restart, it idles for anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes, sputters then stalls out (does this intermittently, not consistently). I finally got a check engine light with code P0151 (O2 CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2, SENSOR 1) , P0087 (FUEL RAIL/SYSTEM PRESSURE TOO LOW) , P0131 (O2 CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1, SENSOR 1), & P0087 (FUEL RAIL/SYSTEM PRESSURE TOO LOW). Any ideas? I'm stumped.
Change this fuse if it is on your truck too, then if you really need help you can get a mechanic to diagnose poor fuel flow. Maybe the pump is bad or you got some crap gas and it’s all clogged up somewhere from sitting with that ethanol in the wrong place.
My brothers truck left him and his dog stranded today due to this issue. There was nobody around and it was freezing cold out. He called me and I was able to explain what to do over the phone in order to swap an unused 20 amp fuse in. That way he at least got it started. What a dangerous issue, this should have been a recall! I’m very disappointed in Ford.
I know this is an old video, but maybe you could help me out with a weird one here. during a short trip my 2012 5.0 lost power. pulled over and the truck was still running but barely. it would start back up but stumble like it was starving for fuel. the morning after, it started up just fine. I'm gonna throw an fpdm at it and order this fuse kit but i don't have any melting going on in the fuse location. Any chance this could still be the cause? The truck only has 70k on it. I'm not sure how a shop could even diagnose this without just throwing parts at it, it could take a week of driving to reproduce the malfunction.
Missed the part that this video is for a _cranking_ no start. ;) Fuel pump fuse shouldn't keep a vehicle from cranking. Regardless, hopefully you figured it out!
I had the EXACT same problem with my 2012 F150 FX2 V8! I replaced the fuse for now, but would love to find this kit to move the fuse. Where did you get yours?
I AGREE TO ALL RESPONDS, THE PROBLEM IM HAVING IS MY 2012 FORD F-150 XLT. STARTS IDLING ROUGH AND JUST CUTS OFF, YOU WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND IT STARTS NORMAL AS IS NOTHING HAPPEN..I HAVE REPLACED BOTH O2 SENSOR,OIL PRESSURE SWITCH AND MAF SENSOR AND FUEL MODULE SENSOR AFTER SEEING THIS VIDEO AND READING THESE COMMENTS, I AGREE THERE NEEDS TO B A RECALL, EVEN WHEN I ADD FUEL ITS HESITATE TO START, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM
Hey can you message me directly please I have a couple questions for you about relocate fuel pump fuse. First where did you get that new part from? and how long did the whole repair take? Are you a Ford technician? Please I need to find out these answers.
or do what I did. I did not have a 20 amp micro fuse. so I used what I had which was a mini size 20 amp. its the next step up from the real small fuse. the metal prongs/contacts fit in the slot, but the shoulders of the fuse hit the fuse box top. but it works and in principle is the same thing as what the video is doing. just going to more contact patch for the contact with no plastic down in the box.
jim livigni I bought my f-150 used but with low miles. I heard about this issue and went to check out the fuse to see if it was getting hot and discoloring, low and behold someone was already in there and stuck the larger sized 20a fuse and it was sticking up lol. I bought the kit for $25 to do the job the correct way though. Might as well have it fixed properly and look/fit better
this hapownd to me last week..i was driving my sister inlaw 2013 f150 5.0 down the hiway.. i gave it some gas to pass up a car..and sure enough the truck shut off on me...pulled over ..read the f150 forum and there are bunch of these trucks with the same issue...but what i dont understand is why i wont act up when its on cruise control?
Typically amperage, but yeah. And it is generally all built in to the fuel pump, as the ECM typically focuses on injection control, not maintaining fuel pressure. The fuel pump itself is typically designed with a pressure regulator which maintains a certain optimum pressure. If the vehicle isn't using much fuel (idle, or typical cruise), fuel pump doesn't work very hard (work is amps X volts, but volts are typically constant on vehicles, at least for pumps, so we're effectively talking amps). Moreover, as pumps (electric motors) wear out, they'll draw slightly more amps to do the same work. Lastly, fuses prevent over amp (basically rated in amps; though there is a voltage range fuses are rated to be effective in, it isn't important here). So, lots of high speed miles on a truck with quite a few miles on it with the original fuel pump, and you go to merge onto a highway, or pass someone (i.e.: wot), then "pop" goes the fuse-y. A look under the hood, and low and behold, the fuse socket is distorted, melted, whatever... The natural presumption is this all "just" happened, where in actual fact, typically, there were several contributing factors that all came together, at least two over a considerable amount of time.
Benito JR I did my 2010 last week at 195k after the fuse went bad at 175k about 3 years ago. The original battery died and got a new one that had been on shelf for a while. Lost receipt so warranty didn’t help because one sticker was one date and date sold had came off the top. It lasted exactly the amount of warranty. If I had receipt I could of had free or highly pro rated new battery. But I installed the kit last week after getting a new battery. But the starter is sticking engaged a little like when fuse 27 messes up. Trying to troubleshoot that now.
my 2014 f150 gets to a quarter tank and half and just runs out of gas and will not start but that's what's it is doing now all i told myself im just going to keep the tank over 100 miles ok but everytime i get gas it shakes and acts like she don't want to start everytime i get gas but she still starts what's going on
I just did one last week, first one in over a year and forgot which wire, ended up cutting and splicing the wrong blue and red wire.theres like five in there.opps.was much nicer before the tsb when we were replacing the entire harness.
Ive got me 2013 F150 at the shop now. They say "Its a mystery" , and can't figure it out. #27 Fuse appears to be fine, so does #8 (fuel pump relay) . They've switched new fuses in it, and nothing. Turn key on, and you can hear the pump. If anyone has any idea's please let me know. @flmmaz Thanks
Whoa whoa whoa, (and no disrespect to your experience, skills, training, and expertise) but HOW in TF does this job equate to $465.99 in labor?!? (Granted, I went to the dealership, but still...😳😳😳)
2013 F150 Same thing..truck failed to start and then it did. about a month later it stranded me again. I took the fuse out and it looked fine, put it back in and truck started right up. Then couple months later she would not start at all. Googled the problem and saw that the #27 fuse seems to be an issue with many of these trucks. I tried to remove the fuse and it broke apart leaving one of the prongs in the slot. I fished it out and replaced the fuse and truck ran fine. I have an appointment with the dealership but my extended warranty may not cover it since it is an upgrade so may end up paying through the nose to relocate and upgrade with a piece of wire and a newer beefier fuse. Imagine what that will cost me. I want it done by a qualified technician so if it messes up they will be responsible for their work and not me. Ford needs to quit being cheap asses and recall this problem and do the upgrade for free. I won't buy another Ford again.
just happened to me today... 2011 F150 Lariat... did you have any issues replacing with another fuse for a short period of time? I'm worried the melted plastic residue still in the fuse box (cleaned it as best as i could) could cause more issues.
The two problems that were the most common where the fuse relocation issue and the passenger kick panel area and in my video here explained that so if you haven't seen it take a look th-cam.com/video/PBXqqPZTGCE/w-d-xo.html
I cant believe this is not a recall I almost had my truck blasted by a 18 wheeler on the Chesapeake bay bridge when this fuse blew... if you never been on that bridge then TH-cam it... it's the last place you want breakdown on and especially when you have a semi on your ass... ford you dropped the ball on this one along with the 5.4l

Well i did the relocation and it didn't work fml

I sometimes use a large vacuum cap to cover live wire
Thanks for a great informative video. It helped me fix my F150.

Yeah , great but where did you plug the other end of the wire into??
Did this today thanks man! Save me a bunch of money!
If you follow the wire toward the fuel relay you will have more outside room to install the heat shrink to keep from melting any other wires.
Could you please tell me the make of those plastic separation pliers. They are nice!
Oh! Thats what those are!
They appear to be hose separation pliers, similar to a Lisle 47900.
Got mine from snap on, but you can buy cheaper models at most Auto parts stores now

Is the root cause a fuel pump on its way out causing high current draw or just junk plastic used on the fuse block?
Just did this today! Thanks for the video
what's the part number for the tool that you use to remove the clips?
Lisle 47900
2013 Ford F-150... have no rear park lights...looking for a fuse#? Could also be called tail lights(rear)Thank you
do I have to cap off the wire coming from #27 on the fuse box ? I dont have a fuse in it
I do, it's a good idea in case a fuse gets put back in inadvertently.
would 3m electrical tape be sufficient ?
I'm just wondering why the tech didn't disconnect the battery cables...

what size is that new male spade terminal and wire you used to splice for relocation of the fuel pump fuse ?
Thanks. Helped me fix this problem!
What’s my other alternative to heat up the tape to melt to the wires??
Jaime Cantarero lighter
Great video, but when splicing you should splice the wire by twisting the two ends parallel with each other not twisting and folding.
I agree, but that is how page 12 of the TSB has you solder and shrink the wire. I butt spliced and sealed mine, however.
so what was up with the noisy diesel?
Wasn't acting up when I got out there.
Great work and explanation , may I ask what kind of truck you drive ??
I know this is an old video, but maybe you could help me out with a weird one here. during a short trip my 2012 5.0 lost power. pulled over and the truck was still running but barely. it would start back up but stumble like it was starving for fuel. the morning after, it started up just fine. I'm gonna throw an fpdm at it and order this fuse kit but i don't have any melting going on in the fuse location. Any chance this could still be the cause? The truck only has 70k on it. I'm not sure how a shop could even diagnose this without just throwing parts at it, it could take a week of driving to reproduce the malfunction.
Thank you. My car have same problem.
Had a friend that a mechanic replaced fuse but still having trouble no crank no start where did we go wrong
Missed the part that this video is for a _cranking_ no start. ;)
Fuel pump fuse shouldn't keep a vehicle from cranking.
Regardless, hopefully you figured it out!
I had the EXACT same problem with my 2012 F150 FX2 V8! I replaced the fuse for now, but would love to find this kit to move the fuse. Where did you get yours?
At the Ford delaership
@@flmmaz Thanks... go figure they'd force you to purchase an item to fix their flaw.
Amazon, $18.91 + tax
Shouldn’t this be a recall from Ford?
Muchas gracias por ayudarme 👍
Eres muy bienvenido!
Hey can you message me directly please I have a couple questions for you about relocate fuel pump fuse. First where did you get that new part from? and how long did the whole repair take? Are you a Ford technician? Please I need to find out these answers.
New part? From Ford. Repair time? 30-60 minutes (depending on hustle mode or turtle mode). Ford tech? Yessir
or do what I did.
Might as well have it fixed properly and look/fit better
this hapownd to me last week..i was driving my sister inlaw 2013 f150 5.0 down the hiway..
i gave it some gas to pass up a car..and sure enough the truck shut off on me...pulled over ..read the f150 forum and there are bunch of these trucks with the same issue...but what i dont understand is why i wont act up when its on cruise control?
que?? wat?? I believe the computer varies the voltage as per power demand. under big load more power delivered to pump.
Had to do this on my 2011 5.0 fx4
At what mileage was the 5.0
@@benitojr4332 92k when i did it. Its a tsb. Fuel pump relocation kit. Its lile $12 at dealership
Great video brother, thanks for posting
my 2014 f150 gets to a quarter tank and half and just runs out of gas and will not start but that's what's it is doing now all i told myself im just going to keep the tank over 100 miles ok but everytime i get gas it shakes and acts like she don't want to start everytime i get gas but she still starts what's going on
I just did one last week, first one in over a year and forgot which wire, ended up cutting and splicing the wrong blue and red wire.theres like five in there.opps.was much nicer before the tsb when we were replacing the entire harness.
My Raptor just left me stranded because of this.
@flmmaz Thanks
frank livingston any update? I’m in the same boat
Where can i go to buy that kit???
What better place for a fuse block in the event of a crash big firehazard
If only I found this shit sooner, I would have saved my ass over 600$...
I have the same problem with GM...
Worked for me! Thanks!!
Whoa whoa whoa, (and no disrespect to your experience, skills, training, and expertise) but HOW in TF does this job equate to $465.99 in labor?!? (Granted, I went to the dealership, but still...😳😳😳)
Some one charged you that much? We only charge an hour to perform this repair. And our labor rate is under $100 an hour.
The labor should only be 1 hour for this job, so it’s not too terribly expensive.
just happened to me today... 2011 F150 Lariat... did you have any issues replacing with another fuse for a short period of time? I'm worried the melted plastic residue still in the fuse box (cleaned it as best as i could) could cause more issues.
Thanks just happened to me.
Great video
The two problems that were the most common where the fuse relocation issue and the passenger kick panel area and in my video here explained that so if you haven't seen it take a look

Thank you still helpful
Awesome Thank you!!
You just leave the cut wire in fuse 27 slot
Yes, it's capped off with a piece of heat shrink so it can't conduct any juice if someone sticks a fuse back in there.
and great vid. Thanks
thank you !
Thank you very much
good job!
Thanks big help..
Well, you can tell this truck isn't his.
Ford sucks
Go to Ford headquarters and start throwing some lead at them!
