I dunno man. Compared to the late 90's early 2000's renaissance of GPUs with more than 3 chip manufacturers, today is still a joke. What's far more significant is the fact hat AMD says they're gonna bring it driver level so many games can work on it. That's a bigger win imo than compatibility with older hardware.
Like FSR has driver level support. Which is just FSR1 because it's a post-processing effect that doesn't need engine data like motion vectors. The same will be true for "FSR3" via hyper RX so it will be a very different version of motion interpolation. More akin to what your TV does. Which I'm not saying is pointless but if people complain about a bit of ghosting or artifacting in current DLSS/FSR implementations, they're gonna absolutely hate hyper RX.

It's not just PR, it's a good strategy, if they didn't open FSR 3 to all GPU, dev would have the choice bewteen FSR and DLSS, the wouldn't want to implement the two of them and since there is more nvidia gpu than AMD would have gone with DLSS since it cover more user. But with an open FSR it cover all user so it became the defacto choice and allow AMD card to be competitive with Nvidia
Yeah, FSR 3 with frame generation can run on anything as old as 20 series Nvidia cards or 500 series AMD cards, and without 10 series and 5000 series respectively, but the way I read it there is a good chance to go even one or two generations older and still get it to work with a benefit. Though I wouldnt recommend frame generation with anything under 60 native FPS just to avoid input lag issues, and neither does AMD, so maybe dont go too crazy with that old 750Ti. Frame generation is really just there to get some extra smoothness for high refresh rate monitors, not really as a crutch for gaming performance. But this is still miles ahead of giving the best crutch to the most modern GPUs that realistically shouldnt even need it (but actually do because lower end cards are performing on the same level as their respective 30 series cards and their only improvement is better DLSS support)
IMPORTANT! FSR 3 does work on any Gpu but FSR 3 is not fluid motion frames aka their version of frame generation. Fluid motion frames only works with 2000 series and above for Nvidia and 5700 and above for AMD. Regardless, it is amazing that FSR 3 works on all gpus and fluid motion frames works on lots of Gpus. Nobody has ever intentionally harmed performance of older cards. Not sure what you're getting at? In fact, AMD has historically had horrendous drivers for their newer cards at launch.

this will also make devs more lazy, like the recent fiasco with recommended specs including DLSS performance mode. Trust me you dont want this to happen. People who got the money to spend on top tier GPU's do care. All the enthusiasts do care. Personally, don't care about comp gamers. But that's all besides my main point, which you didn't address. Why should I care for AMD GPU's if AMD provides the features also for my Nvidia GPU?
@@Peh84 Dude, you know that most game developers implement FSR into their game because it's open-source, right? Because it's a tech most gamers can actually use while Nvidia provides you a combustion of features, most people can only pick a hand full, depending on their own hardware even though they bought into Nvidia GPUs. Barely 50% of all gamers can actually use DLSS while likely 80~90% can use FSR. Then FSR is also available on any console or handheld PC. So just make a guess what game developers will focus on implementing. It does not even matter to most developers that DLSS might provide you better image quality. If you care about image quality, render at native resolution (it's that simple). Nvidia only wins in benchmarks here while AMD actually provides people a tool to play games despite them having older hardware (which ultimately actually increases game sales).
AMD was working on RISC chipsets before it was cool and paved the way for modern ARM processors. The only reason AMD wasn't more popular early on is because intel cheated (and got sued and had to pay AMD for) abusing their distributers to push intel and drag their feet on AMD marketing and sales. They always had better memory addressing and better overclocking. The problem with AMD is they spend billions on research and, like IBM, they sit on it to play the market to optimize current tech instead of implementing the new stuff.
@@RUSTRP-y5c im pretty sure amd has been updating drivers recently now so yeah with how Nvidia has been lately theres only so much drivers can do when ur "new" 4060 is ALMOST the same as 3060 which is from last gen. With a larger price increase
Already switched to AMD on CPU side when Ryzen 1000 series came out, can remember how picky my R7 1700 was with RAM. Almost switched back to Intel, but decided to give AMD anyother try with a 3600x and a new mainboard. From there I fell in love with AMD. Decent price to performance factor, great upgradability, everything works like a charm and it stays cool under my watercooler. A year ago I upgraded to an 5800x3d, basically doubling the frames in my favourite games like Black Desert. I'm still on a rtx 3080 but with the next generation of GPUs I'll give AMD a shot in the GPU segment, great stuff coming from them.
I switched when EVGA went under. I was already iffy about getting an nvidia GPU with how stupid expensive they were getting, but EVGA ragequitting was the nail in the coffin. Zero regrets, the 6800 XT I got has been an amazing card. Was already using Ryzen as well, I like overclocking and I appreciated that there was a budget overclocking option for motherboards. Z series boards for intel are also stupid expensive. Intel/Nvidia might still be 'the best' if you go for an i9/XX90 build, but if your budget is anywhere below "I want the best and I don't care how much it costs" then AMD is a great choice imo. Much better value.
As a proud owner of ONLY AMD cards till date starting with - HD 4830 & HD 4890 (2009), RX 270 (2014) and now with a AMD RADEON 6650 XT.... I can just say a BIG THANK YOU to you AMD. I will never leave the RED Team for sure :)
AMD always pushes the open standards. This isn't really anything new. But because AMD pushes open standards, their implementations can be a bit behind Nvidia in terms of quality. Then people compare them and declare Nvidia to be better. Then the Nvidia good, AMD bad circle jerking starts again and we are back at square one with a self imposed Nvidia vendor lock and people being angry about that. Its a constant self defeating process. AMD really just needs to win for once and actually match Nvidia in quality, but have their stuff work on everything. Lets hope FSR3 actually does that. 🙂
@@DanielWW2 They're not behind due to the open standards, on the contrary. A lot of their software only is usable because it's open and they get contributions for free. AMD is behind in software because they're a much smaller company and they invest much less into software development.

It seems like a lot of people didn't actually read the official launch note by AMD and thus causing confusion about which one is what. FSR 3 is a package like DLSS 3 which is an upgraded version of current FSR 2.2 with frame generation technology. The super resolution part of FSR 3 can be enabled in all gpus while the frame generation feature is only available on RX 5000 series and above for AMD also RTX 20 series and newer for Nvidia. Then there's the motion fluidity technology (works on most dx11 and dx12 games) which is only available for RX 7000 series that can be toggled via driver (Hyper-RX). It also comes with newly and improved latency reduction technology anti-lag+ which also only available on RX 7000 series. I hope this will clear all the confusions regarding FSR 3 announcement.
@JacKAsterisK Well if the thumbnail is anything to go by then yes, he did. 10 year old GPUS can not run most of what was announced in AMD's press conference, just the upscaler. The frame generarion and fluid motion is incompatible with anything that came out before RTX 20 series/ AMD 5000 series
Do note, this does not mean FSR3 will not work with other and slower GPUs, it is simply not recommended and optimized. Graphics cards such as GTX 10 and lower will also support FSR3 upscaling, but not the frame generation technology. -AMD You need a newer card for the Frame gen i'm sad
As a 1070 owner.. i really appreciate AMD. Whatever they're motive is.. FSR is a real gem. . Im definitely buying AMD for my next card.. gotta support the heroes .
The last card I had was a 1070 and I upgraded to an asrock 6700xt. Not only was the performance a good bit better, the card I got is also INCREDIBLY quiet and has had very solid temps overall. Basically, I recommend the upgrade. Plus the driver software is better imo. You can do way more with it
So let me get this straight... Instead of buying hardware that is future oriented, the same "orientation" that has driven graphics, sales, games, new technology, etc etc etc for 4 decades... You would rather purchase a GPU that already puts you in "second at most?" I dont get it. PCMR? Wtf does it mean then? Oh yeah, its a meme.

This is the exact move I was hoping from AMD. They've been silently going at it, releasing great opensource projects, for decades now. Vulkan did not start by AMD. Vulkan have it's original base from OpenGL Next. they just add AMD mantle stuff to it. but even without mantle OpenGL already allowing architecture specific optimization to be done.

My steam deck was my first thought, this sounds huge
100% on this. I think AMD & Steam really are going to be spearheading linux over the next 5-10 years
It's not just PR, it's a good strategy, if they didn't open FSR 3 to all GPU, dev would have the choice bewteen FSR and DLSS, the wouldn't want to implement the two of them and since there is more nvidia gpu than AMD would have gone with DLSS since it cover more user.
Oh my god, for Steam Deck I cannot wait!!

But AMD actually cares about gamers. They get NOTHING out of someone on a 1060 6GB being able to use FSR because that 1060 guy is gonna buy Nvidia on his next go around.
Nvidia? They throw PhysX and Hairworks and not just DXR (DirectX Ray Tracing) but "RTX" DXR into everything they can so that it will perform terribly on AMD cards. They've been doing this since 2005 or so with PhysX. Then Hairworks. And there's always some proprietary "Nvidia paywall" bull crap that Nvidia throws out there to hurt AMD users.
And AMD STILL says "We don't care, we're gamers. You got a 1080 Ti? You got a 980 Ti? You have a 1050Ti? A 1060 3GB? Here... use our FSR 2.1. Play that game you couldn't play before."
Why would you NOT support that company? What do you think happens when more and more people support a company like that?
Their R&D gets more money put into it, they expand, they grow and they make killer cards that outperform Nvidia. Not that they don't do that anyways dollar for dollar. Plus, AMD is always faster 6 months down the road. Fine wine technology. Like I said, I used to battle with the 3060 Ti. Now? That's a 6600XT competitor and I trade blows with the 3070.
And in the newest games (games that use more than 8GB VRAM), I smoke the 3070Ti because they crash or don't load textures lol. Or they drop 30% performance as soon as they use up their VRAM.
Stop supporting an anti-consumer company. Stop it.

@@Peh84wat?
@@slavcow what wat?
You got AMD, you only get FSR.
You got Nvidia you get DLSS and FSR. Let's just ignore that garbage that is frame generation. But DLSS 2 is still superior to FSR 2 and with DLSS 3.5 you also get Ray Reconstruction for stable RT effects. The usuable feature list increases for Nvidia GPU's, too.
@X39-hg9lz Got a 4090. Playing on 4k with RT on. Cyberpunk 2077 with Path Tracing looks awesome and it will get better from here with DLSS 3.5.
Finally something actually considered a "Next Gen" step in gaming
1:18 best scene 😂
I never used AMD products before, but the fact that the best 3 game consoles out there are using their GPU is awesome
Yeah
AMD was working on RISC chipsets before it was cool and paved the way for modern ARM processors. The only reason AMD wasn't more popular early on is because intel cheated (and got sued and had to pay AMD for) abusing their distributers to push intel and drag their feet on AMD marketing and sales. They always had better memory addressing and better overclocking. The problem with AMD is they spend billions on research and, like IBM, they sit on it to play the market to optimize current tech instead of implementing the new stuff.
"Best" and "consoles" in the same sentence - sounds weird.

Did amd always have balls of pure chadium or is it just me.

Gonna be real interesting to see how good their frame gen tech looks in action. It working with DX 11 and 12 games is definitely neat.
