this is by no means more depressing or worse than a Brothers Grimm fairy-tale... the little red hood, hansel and gretel, snow white... of course the disney-version of these tales make them seem lovely and innocent but the truth is that it's just greed, gore, death and rivalry in these stories. and i think Rabbit is a wonderful short movie!
Future shorts-- get some. Because after you watch this...you'll need a fresh pair. I always loved the idea of conveying messages without using words. I love this video. The use of cinematic elements as well as colors is amazing. Look how saturated each color is and the juxtaposition of the real sky the setting. Its all so very symbolic!
I saw this the other day at the 'Watch Me Move' exhibition at the Barbican. It says a lot about how we teach our kids to idolise wealth and to be good little consumers.
I like this, it really makes you think. I think its about materlialism, about how human beings can turn something worthless (like the flies) into something like diamonds. Also the idol represents humans idolizing objects and destroying everything around them just for the sake of their 'idol'. That's just my theory anyway.
I think the slug slithering on the apple is suppose to represent passage of time. The first time we see the slug slithering clockwise on the apple is between the time the girl is grabbing a jar from the cabinet full of jam jars and the time the girl is surrounded by empty jars and emptying the last jar in the jam filled washtub.
The truth is confusing…. Not to me ..I do not wonder where their parents are…… I wonder where humanity is…. If we see something like this and we just cannot imagine….. suspend the realities the banalities ….see the truth Much respect to the creators
