I watched enough of this stuff for me to figure it out, and it was interesting. It is certainly an idle existence. I promise to wait longer on walks while my dog stands there sniffing air and looking into the distance for several continuous minutes.
The walk is all about the dog.
What about your dog never getting to have sex? Or a relationship? ...that was in there too....

That's the first thought I had. Although, I kinda knew what was going on from the title and the opening. No big "Black Mirror" twist. But still a well-made, thought-provoking film.

This is a depressing and dystopian short film that subliminally shows us the society as a whole. The houses are all the same(conformity) as are the gardens. I think that the pets aren’t the robots, but rather the humans. The robot at the beginning is seen controlling the human’s actions, including making him walk the robot. The humans being in cells was how we found out that the robots were not the pets. The cells weren’t cells. They were kennels, like in a boarding pet daycare. Case and point, the humans are the pets.

Nice twist at the end. Usually pick things up pretty quick but it took me a second to realize the pets weren't the machines it was the people.
This is why I have 9 dogs and treat them with incredible respect. I dog rescue and foster homeless dogs. They are my heart and purpose.

They (superior aliens) might transform us into 100s of different species - like we do to to dogs & chickens...I think we'd make great pets......at least it'll ensure the survival of the species....

Lol. I really liked this. There were little cues like the orb offering the bowl and putting on the TV, but when it really clicked for me was when I saw the leash tied around his wrist.

If we give them the ability to be self-maintaining, that might be all she wrote for the Human race - especially if they learn how to evolve...
Once I read a creepy story by Phillip K.Dick, about little A.I.s that hide in the ground & surface periodically, always in a different form......it became impossible for humans to keep track of the machines' evolutionary process....

If you're interested. "The Second Variety" was the name of the short story and two movies were made from it. "Screamers" and "Screamers: The Hunting".
Hoehner Tim Thanks. Yeah that was the one. Phillip K.Dick wrote many good stories & novels. The Second Variety was one of the the stories in a four-novella collection I read a while back. Heck of a writer. Not surprised Hollywood used so many of his ideas.

(Don't read the rest of this comment if you haven't seen the film -- spoiler alert)
Fortunately for my dog (here in my pic) she comes with me to Gala Events. She even came with us on a helicopter tour once. She's a service dog, so she gets to go everywhere.
But sometimes I do wonder where she'd take me, if the choice were up to her? Probably we'd spend every day at the dog park, lol.
When I take my mother-in-law's dog out for a walk, I generally let the dog lead unless she tries to go somewhere dangerous, like into traffic. Other than that, I let her go to either side of the road, sniff whatever she wants for as long as she wants, go as far down the road as she wants, that sort of thing. She's a good girl, though, and doesn't like getting into much mischief, which is part of the reason I give her that much freedom.
That's not what the movie meant apparently. It's hinting towards the dark future of humans.
I often let my dog lead me. She mostly wants to go into the forest, but also has led me to children parks, so I have to lead her out of there since a lone adult with a cute dog may get suspected by parents if they keep showing up at places like that 😑

Hey. Freut mich sehr, dass dir unser Film gefällt. Vor allem auch, dass du meine Cinematographie ansprichst. ;-) Wir haben den ganzen 3D-Part im Maya gemacht, das Compositing in Nuke. Ich persönlich nutze super gerne blender, Maya ist dann aber am Ende meisstens der gemeinsame Nenner.
Geile Sache. Maya hab ich auch schon etwas benützt. Mit was habt ihr das eigentlich gefilmt? Canon C200?

Excellent story telling in five minutes than most two hour movies. Excellent acting, effects and cinematography work, with multiple interesting locations. It mirrors how we treat our own "pets", and hints how we may be evolving into a speechless society where technology tethers us controlling our most every action, restricting are freedom of true expression.
I expect great things in the future from the creators of this project 🏆
