Dr Rhonda, I started taking 2000IU of Vitamin D3 per day and 2 to 4 fish oil capsules plus a B vitamin complex as well as 150mg of CoQ10 to get off a deep alcohol, amphetamine and cannabis dependency. When I started using the vitamin D3 I noticed immediate effects. Everything you say about serotonin here seems to hold true to me. I didn't start the Vitamin D3 until I listened to you on the Joe Rogan Podcast and more videos on TH-cam. You have seriously helped me, my head space is clearer than it has been for probably 6 years. Thank you very much.

IndicaDreaming Sorry I forgot to ask, do you have an opinion on CoQ10? The studies seem to be very positive.

Her information on serotonin is spot on. When i suffer a depressive episode, my memory is very poor and my cognitive function declines to the point where i can barely read a book. Decision making is also difficult.

I read the book 'Spark' by Dr. John J. Ratey, and he discusses how exercise produces BDNF and regulates neurotransmitters like serotonin (Rhonda Patrick mentions this in another video too). After watching this, I wonder how much of that exercise was done in the sun and how that may have added to the benefit.

I found you while listening to the Rich Roll podcast and then promptly watched every episode of you on the Joe Rogan experience, and your youtube channel vids. (literally didn't leave the house for two days) I have learned more about my health in the past week than I have my whole life. And, as I vegan I am making some changes to my diet and will be incorporating micro algae oils and possibly krill oil, as well as Vitamin D3. I had NO idea how important these were to essential functions in my body and am blown away by your knowledge, clarity, and relate-ability. Im convinced I will be feeling better soon and no longer have to suffer in silence with certain symptoms that can be so easily helped. I will be sharing this info and videos with everyone I know. Thank you Thank you Thank you for all that you do. You are a modern day HERO!!! Much love and lots of gratitude xo

Dr. Rhonda, I just discovered your channel, thank you for the wonderful, rich, detailed, and insightful content. I can tell you really believe in your research and want to make a difference in the world. I've been "researching" nutrition for years now and it's difficult to find free, publicly available, in-depth scientific, lengthy, no nonsense discussions like those on your channel. Keep it up, this is great content! While the majority of the population has less than a 90 second attention span, those of us with longer attention spans are still listening! Thank you again.

Be nice to see her do some work with gut health. I believe that most issues arise from poor gut health. Rhonda if you read these, please do something to do with healthy gut foods like kefir and sauerkraut and/or other fermented products. I think these are grossly underestimated in general. I was looking at homemade kefir bacteria today actually under a microscope and the amount in a single drop is mind blowing. Truly amazing.

We all scream for Vitamin D whether we need or not we take it Lets go But then we do need some and the data on half the US being deficient is crap. That is not how biology operates. 80% of humans are obese With that much fat intake how does one explain vitamin D deficiency. It is fat soluble vitamin remember? Some loose screws in Rhonda's head have turned her into a Vitamin D crusader. Her rationale does not fit the bill.

I'm approaching 70, yet most often get mistaken for being in my mid 50's. I train 10-12 hrs in the Gym weekly, and have been doing so for over 40 years. My healthful diet ( with no red meat) is supplemented with a battery of vitamins, minerals, and Melatonin. I sleep about 7 hours a day and keep stress at bay more than 90% of the time. I also supplement with Creatine to aid in my overall strength and recovery cycles . . .
Thank you for your dedication !!!

Very interesting Doctor- I drink either Almond or Coconut milk myself with my oatmeal or steel cuts oats- I was just reading that such milk [1 cup] is 25-30 % of recommended Vid -D. I am currently 59 and at age 46 I had open heart surgery, a 4 X bypass with NO smoking or obesity, however I did eat about 6 raw eggs daily with protein in a blender daily. I realize that this question is off topic but do you feel too many whole eggs are harmful? I attribute my former problem to my egg consumption as well as red meat. Never had my cholesterol level checked in those days, lets remember that in 1975 I don't think cholesterol was discussed much, at least in my circles. Just so you know I immediately changed my diet after the operation and now my total cholesterol is between 130-140 and bad between 70-80 with 10 MG of Lipitor, my Cardiologist considers me her finest patient now.

Hi Rhonda, overall this is a pretty good round-up of easily alterable factors to improve health and aging. My only quibble is that a high corn oil diet is very different from a high animal fat diet and using the simple term 'high fat' diet is perhaps misleading.
It would also be good if you could correct the subtitles as there were a few mistakes in there.

This is all very biology/Physiology based stuff. And thats a necessary part of the whole picture.......but its not the whole in and of itself, its just one part. You can have the best diet in the world and have a healthy lifestyle, yet still develop all sorts of ailments that you would assume only happen to unhealthy people. Thats why the Rosa study is special, because those people did everything wrong, yet they were healthy and happy people. The complete picture is that theres no point going into such incredible detail about genes and a myriad of abbreviated terms when its not necessary to. Sometimes we forget that we are more than out physiology and genetics. Some people absolutely swear by genetics, they obey. Dr Bernie Siegel talked about this in love medicine and miracles. So dont just focus on science alone. Its the meeting of science and spirituality that describes the entire person. If you have a great diet and exercise all the time, yet you work a job you dont like, surrounded by people you dont connect with and married to a person who doesnt really love you and you basically just exist to pay bills and theres no true joy in your world..............then it dont matter about genes or dna or your diet..........you will get sick. By all means eat a healthy diet and move your body because the human body was designed for movement, but feed your soul, above all feed your soul because if you feel fulfilled you take inner peace, love and joy everywhere you go and that is the greatest protection against again and all the things that ail human beings in this world.

    • @smartcatcollarproject5699

True, some people eat lots of bread, sugar, drink more wine and beer than water, and live 90 years old, other eat vegan and die in their 60's. Other have white hair in their 40's and live old, other still have their original hair color in their 60's... when they die.
There is no rule, some people clearly benefit from healthy diet, others don't. Limiting calories may be the only truth for everyone, but even that comes after the genotype for some people.

I'm confused. Why did the original parent groups have changeable epigenetics & genetic expressions, while the offspring next generation seemingly had same epigenetics that could NOT be changed? Seems contradictory results; like epigenetics & gene expression can be changed, & can not be changed. ?!

What about oxalates that are found in leafy greens? They bind with the minerals so we don't absorb them. So you're still not getting magnesium when you eat them.

Unfortunately I'm allergic to raw bananas. What can I trade to get the nutrients closest to a banana.

Hey Rhonda, what do you think of my morning smoothie:
    3 inch fresh turmeric root
    3 inch fresh ginger root
1 large fresh raw red beet
1 large rainbow/swiss chard leaf and stem
4 large green or purple kale leafs
5-10 pieces of raw uncooked fresh asparagus
    1 avocado
    1 banana with peal
1 full garlic clove with skin
    1 cup chopped fresh parsley
    1 cup cherries
    1 cup mixed berries
    1 cup mango/pineapple
    1 scoop dried wheat grass
1 scoop raw vegetarian protein powder
    1 cup natural cranberry juice
    4 tsp raw hemp oil
    1 cup kombutcha
    then fill with water
Fills a 2.2 litre container and I drink it throughout the day.

Scott Maher Now I also add whole raw cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, almonds, and walnuts. At least 4 heaping tablespoons of each. I honestly believe nuts and seeds are the healthiest things for human consumption.

Scott Maher Well I started this roughly four years ago. I used to be 210 pounds, unhappy, had really bad anxiety, got horrible sleeps, stomach aches all the time, head aches often. Now, I'm 175 pounds, lean and I literally haven't been sick one day for over three years. I never get stomach aches and I always have quick and easy bowel movements. I sleep well throughout the night and almost always feel rested the next day no matter how little sleep I got. I don't get head aches anymore. My anxiety is nearly 100% gone, and it used to be so bad I could hardly do anything. I never get upset or sad or depressed anymore. Even when things get tough I always keep an optimistic point of view.
I go snowboarding a lot and if I drink half this smoothie before going, I can ride all day without feeling tired or dehydrated or hungry, while all my riding buddies are dying half way through the day.
I don't really find the smoothie all that filling though. I mean it is and it isn't. I like to have one or two a day and still eat a full meal at least.
My change in diet literally changed my life and I'm never looking back. It's all about gut bacteria and keeping the right ones, while ridding the bad ones.

Rhonda have you heard of oxalates by now? I’m sure you’ve adjusted that morning smoothie to be optimal.

Also I eat 2 handfuls of spinach and sometimes kayle daily, along with oranges/bananas as preferred fruit. Is almond milk necessary to fulfill the calcium needs or are the dark greens enough?

She makes it sound like all high fat diets are equally bad. A bit disappointed in her. Also, surprised that such a brilliant lady makes daily smoothies. Most of the nutrients get destroyed in the proces of high speed blending. There are even a few studies done on mice who ate their species specific diet BLENDED and they still got metabolic diseases like diabetes and became obese, opposed to the group of mice who ate the same foods UNPROCESSED. That group was perfect fine.
    Guess no one's perfect!

I went above 100 units when taking 10000 IU. Do test D levels frequently if you insist on taking such dose.
