      I currently have the s90d 77-in. I heard that the QD-OLED screens are easy to scratch I just looked at mine with the screen off with the flashlight and I have two scratches. I was thinking about taking it back and replacing with the QN90D 85 in or should I just get a replacement for the s90d or replace it with a QN90D. I am in the living room with light controlled environment. The only thing I will do is watch movies, TV shows, a little bit of news, no video games. Is the QN90d black levels almost the same as the s90d would I be disappointed with the QN90d.

    Rock solid review. I do agree that the 10% dimming seems kinda pointless. But the good news is we should be able to avoid the service menu on the G3 as the OOTB dimming isn’t as substantial. As long as LG doesn’t add new firmware which makes the dimming more aggressive this is essentially the first non-dimming OLED for gaming.

      ''10% dimming seems kinda pointless'' Perhaps in testing they worked out this would make a difference over time. If we had the results of testing, this value might then make sesne to us.

    The G3 is gonna be brighter than the A80L and likely A95L, but LG's processing still hasn't made it to Sony or Panasonic's echelon of Detail, especially in low bit content.
    I've seen the A80L already on Javier's channel (AV pasion) and I actually prefer it over the G3, despite being not as bright. Brightness is not everything, but Picture quality.

    Hey Classy,
    Been a bit but I wanna give you total props for all the hard work you still continue to do, I take delivery of my C3 this Saturday and ever since my E8 I wouldn’t touch another company and that’s only because Samsung messed the settings up way back when (I think the TV is in my room tour video) and I swore never again, after that I got a Sony 4K LCD but a year after that the E8 and onwards, so this video was super helpful especially as it’ll take me a few months to save up for a pro calibration..

I currently have TPC disabled on my C1 because of the dimming. • @b1thearchitect401

      I have the exact set up you just described, in SDR mode you can get around the whole issue of ABL/Dimming by just adjusting a few settings. For me, G Sync & HDR off, contrast at 80, and OLED Brightness at 93, the display looks bright, vibrant and beautiful and I can display a full white screen with 0 dimming. I think this is a great middle ground for general PC use, productivity use, etc.. for gaming you can always re-enable HDR & G Sync/VRR if you want, though TBH most of the time I just leave it on these settings, because I know that even if I'm staring straight into the sun in a bright game, the screen isn't going to dim itself. The C3 ABL dimming in bright HDR games can be very distracting and honestly kind of ruins the entire experience depending on the game, I notice it a lot on my PS5

    Hi Classy. I have a C3 that dims quite a bit in SDR game mode (logo dimming, pixel shift, energy savings, a.i, etc. are all turned off). Your Fortnight example is a prime example of when my C3 would dim. Is the G3 just that much better at holding the brightness in general vs. a C3 (in sdr game mode)? I thought it might be GSR on my set but the G3 would do it too if it was a software thing, correct? I'm just wondering if I have a faulty set, or the C3 simply behaves different with SDR game mode.

      @@karlos5885i've tried FMM with ALLM engaged on the xbox. it doesn't dim, but i don't like the additional delay (albeit small) that it adds. FMM also is a no-go for Nintendo Switch, as there's no ALLM and the delay is way too long. SDR Game mode is the only option for Switch IMO, and it dims under this circumstance

    • @stuckintheinbetween
      @stuckintheinbetween 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm forced to play SDR games in Standard mode because the Game Optimizer mode dims the screen way too much and makes games look awful. It doesn't just dim it, the image looks blurrier to me. While the higher input latency isn't preferable, the image quality in SDR mode looks like I'm playing on a tube television with a switch box -- it's that bad. It also forces me to use "always on" HDR on PS5 even in unsupported games because the image quality is better than it is using the "Only when supported" option. That isn't the case with my QLED. As much as I love OLED, it feels weird buying such an expensive TV and low latency mode being locked behind a mode with terrible image quality. Cheap TV's with game modes that have low latency don't do that.

    • @b1thearchitect401
      @b1thearchitect401 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stuckintheinbetween I have the LG C3, and I use the standard non Game Optimizer mode as well for my PC gaming, oartially because Windows HDR is a goddamn disaster, and because with the settings I have set up, there's 0 ABL/Dimming! things look extremely sharp, clean and vibrant even in SDR. Also even though it's technically higher latency than game mode & ALLM etc.., at 120 HZ, things are still very responsive and I generally have no issue with keyboard and mouse controls or controller inputs. It's not ideal that all of these amazing gaming features are turned off the vast majority of my time on such an expensive device though, I'll be honest the dimming/ABL and low brightness/shitty image quality of Game Mode in SDR is something I wasn't expecting or ready for when I purchased this thing

    Great review, however a question. At 16:15 you say "this is GSR... causing a slight reduction in the brightness of the entire image." Is this faulty implementation? I thought GSR was supposed to dim the static elements only?

    • @ClassyTechCalibrations

    • @b1thearchitect401
      @b1thearchitect401 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dimming on C3 is pretty rough man lol any bright HDR game on my PS5 on my LG C3 turns the entire screen to grey low contrast sludge if you look at the sky, sun, white wall, big explosion, magic spell, literally anything bright that takes up a bunch of the screen will cause massive, immediate dimming that's impossible not to notice. This is my first OLED and I frankly couldn't believe that this is normal behavior, but apparently that's just the nature of ABL

    • @b1thearchitect401
      @b1thearchitect401 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does depend on the game, but I was surprised how many games trigger the aggressive ABL. Only way to avoid it is to play in Standard SDR mode without all the gaming features and set up your settings so that ABL never kicks in in the first place - lots of major trade offs to deal with , a lot more than I was expecting

    Playing Overwatch 2 in my LG C3 I notice to much how the ABL dimms the screen every time lights and white shoot guns happens, even on Street Fighter 6 powers. The only solution I found is to reduce the contrast and that helps but I have to reduce it to 70 or even less. That Sucks!!
    (reducing the backlight doesn't matter it still hapens even on very low value, but reducing the contrast it reduces this annoying ABL.. Still I'm not happy with this 😓)

    Thank you for what you do!
    Could you tell if it's possible to adjust the white balance with multipoint (10 point or 22 point) precision in the Game Optimizer image mode and with input set to PC / Chroma 4:4:4 Passthrough option enabled, by any chance? I know that Game Optimizer mode allows for a 2 point adjustment, but that feels inadequate to me taking into account the extent of inaccuracies in that mode, especially with it's EOTF tracking in SDR (well, in fact I haven't seen the measurements for C3 so I'm going by the previous models since it's highly unlikely anything has changed in this regard, though originally this question was with C2 in mind).
    Or is it possible to do a hardware calibration for that image mode via CalMan' calibration suite for LG? Does that bypass the image processing limitations imposed by that mode?
    I'd be EXTREMELY grateful if you could clear that up for me!

I would like all the other benefits these TV's provide that extra full screen brightness would be great for BFI!
    Don't really care for HDR in gaming since it's broken or the implementation is bad most of the time / care far more about motion clarity and how that improves gaming picture quality especially in fast paced games or side scrollers.
