Returning to the series' origins, Reforger takes place in an alternate late 1980s Cold War-era setting again, and is the fifth main entry in the ArmA series. Reforger focuses heavily on its multiplayer aspect, featuring both competitive and co-operative gameplay modes to showcase large-scale infantry and vehicular warfare. The base game's content can be further expanded by downloading mods created by the community via The Workshop, Bohemia Interactive's proprietary online mod repository, which is available to both PC and XBOX players. However, the primary intent of Reforger is to showcase Bohemia Interactive's new Enfusion engine, with a strong emphasis on providing the community with access to the tools necessary for the creation of usermade addons. Notably, Reforger is intended to provide a polished sample of ARMA 4's potential gameplay (also built upon the Enfusion engine), effectively serving as a "community foundation" for the upcoming main title.

About the cold war question...
Arma Reforger takes place in an alternate version of 1989 on the fictional island of Everon. In a way, it's a direct sequel to the first Arma game, Arma Cold War Assault (which takes place in 1985 on several different fictional islands in the Atlantic, Everon being one of them) and a prequel to Arma: Armed Assault. So yeah, cold war.

The title *Reforger* refers to the *NATO Reforger Exercise* that would take place in West Germany between NATO allies, performing massive War Games in preparation for a Soviet invasion of Central Europe. Making sure NATO had the ability to quickly deploy forces to West Germany in the event of a conflict with the Warsaw Pact.
This was mostly during the 80's It was of course a very real threat and a lot of vets from the 70's to 80' have great memories on those huge Reforge operations. I know my neighbor does. It was crucial not only to flex the wests muscles, but have a very practical, cohesive, tight, well rehearsed battle plan between allies, but I think it was very largely U.S. Troops of course
That's pretty interesting, I know that the Arma 3 DLC called Global Mobilisation is based on declassified reports NATO analysts have made on several possible WW3 scenarios,
many of which started with Warsaw pact forces crossing the border between East and West Germany
as well as the NATO 1983 Able Archer exercise and the Warsaw pact Seven Days to the River Rhine exercise, both training for the invasion of West Germany scenario.
2:20 Yeah, ArmA Reforger is set in 1989. I think it's worth noting that the very first ArmA game, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (later renamed to ArmA: Cold War Assault) was set in 1985, and was about a rogue Soviet general invading a couple of (fictional) islands with NATO troops garrisoned on them. Arma Reforger is set on one of said islands, specifically Everon.
I hope we get the other 3 islands, too. Nogova, at least. Kolgujev is Tenerife in real-life.
The new graphical upgrades are so cool, actually being able to hide in bushes and shadows and know you're hidden even at a distance is awesome not to mention the quality of life upgrades with the UI, can't wait to see all come together for Arma 4
Can Arma players disable shrubbery? In some games players actually lower their video quality because it sometimes removes greenery and completely exposes you. I think PUBG has that too. It's technically not cheating, but I'd consider it at least frowned upon.

@@Shade01982 unfortunately you can disable distant shadows, which does give an advantage.
@@matheusgclassen no one is using it currently on their server or missions for the most part, but you can override client graphic settings. I think shadow distance had an override, but it's been some weeks since I looked at the reforger tools so don't take me as gospel.

I play Arma antistasi a lot and I can confirm: communication is everything. You can’t do shit without knowing where you are, where the enemy is, and whether that heli overhead is a friendly and it’s bringing in reinforcements or if it’s hostile and it needs to be shot down.
We had NVG's in early '87, if not earlier. Were they used on a patrol? I dunno. We used them mostly at guard points. I'm pretty sure Cobra and Kiowa pilots were using them, though, because our birds had IR floodlights. Pitch black until you put your NVGs on, and then you saw everything was bathed in floodlight.
I believe NVG exist near or about the Vietnam time, it was SU49/PAS 5
I read this book written by a Vietnam war vet, a Marine who fought in Da Nang in 1966. He was issued a Night vision scope for his M14, which was put to good use when his company was dug in and he was scanning the graveyard in front of them for VC.

The first night sights were developed in 1944, though they had ahitty photoelectron amplifiers, and only worked with IR illumination. Im not certain when the first passively usable systems came about, but by desert storm they were common.
Active systems were widespread by the 50s on vehicles.
I know they had Night Vision in Vietnam. I purchased my own surplus AN-PVS-2A starlite scope. When I say NVG's I mean "Night Vision Goggles" and when I say "We" I mean your run of the mill U.S. Army soldier and when I say "had" I mean that they were fairly common, not specialized. I'm not talking about the whole history of the technological development of Night Vision capability and its use in specialized roles.
Arma Reforger is more of a testing game to see what work's and what doesn't so when they make a new Arma game they will know what to add without breaking or damaging the game.
How can you not love these guys chemistry is great and they know what they are talking about please get these guys on more episodes!

Yes Arma: Reforger is basically based during the Cold War. And here's a fun fact: Reforger or REFORGER is an acronym for "REturn of FORces to GERmany", which was an annual military exercise during the Cold War to train mainly American and Canadian troops to quickly deploy to West Germany from mainland North America.

After i watch this several times i just realized, both them are former members of a mafia, to be more specific the E4 mafia. I mean cam is a SAW gunner and 99% of Machine gunners are E4. I'm kind a hype and wary at same time but not in a bad way. It's kind a amazing, and they probably done what the older members of the mafia have done.

REFORGER was a nato event that took place annually until the 90s it's full name was REturn of FORces to GERmany, it was a joint training op, focused on the possibility of conflict flaring back up in germany
I once had a private who was hooked into joining because of this game. " Hey sergeant, I don't remember the mission where I had to mop the floor, somebody lied to me!" That was what he said for the next two years lol. I played this once and remember saying, "Well crap with all this shooting the unit is gonna spend HOURS cleaning all these weapons" lol

Lots of Arma communities have ex-military guys in them teaching about basic military doctrine, communications, orientation, battle procedure, how squad are organized, order of march,, complete mission planning/execution etc. I haven't found any game that mimic warfare the same way.
The thing about the light. For some reason the night in this game is super dark. You can barely anything past 10m in front of you.
A year later, this game has improved a lot (also mods!)

Arma: Re(4)forger is a “inbetweener” title return to Cold War era but using the modern aspect of gaming we have today, I.E. T-64, M1A1, M60, MIG17-21, Sabredogs, and just about every first Gen modern rifle.
Arma: 3 has released DLC for Vietnam and it has taken most of my Arma attention so sadly I have limited hours of play(16) on Reforger.

I belive Reforger (while the test grounds for Arma 4), the game itself is a "Remake" of Arma: Cold War, an old arma game that came out in the 2000's.
I played it but i instead moved to a remake of it in Arma 3 a modder did for better graphics and what not. if its like the origional game, i'd wish they made more.
Have them react to *The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes!* Totally underrated game and the most cinematic military depiction there is in games currently. Featuring a lot of military comm, gear and the real Iraq setting should give them plenty to talk about.

Just a tip arma reforger takes place in 1989 in a fictional scenario where the US and soviets actually went to war. It takes place on a island called Everon and there are A.I rebels who fight both the US and Soviets as they do not want either country there. And the russian uniforms were that simple.

"Reforger" stands for "REturn of FORces to GERmany." It was the plan to move the bulk of U.S. forces from the continental U.S. to Europe. It was practiced every couple of years and was the major defining military exercise that took place during the Cold War. The U.S. Army in Europe's whole job was to stall the Red Army while REFORGER happened and the bulk of forces arrived in theater. I kind of feel likes it's weird you guys don't know that.
