Westerner to Asian: You wanna come to my house for dinner? Asian: Sure, what are you gonna cook? Westerner: Rice Asian: I just remembered I have something else to do.
A year ago BBC showed us the proper way to cook rice, giving us hope that british is changed people now, at least in cooking. But they proved that they are still british yet, who even make jelly out of goddamned fish. I guess they had declared a war to whole Asia.
Yes we all know that. We were talking about bbc's recent cooking video how to cook the egg fried rice. Although they have uploaded this video an year ago, how to properly cook rice, they uploaded the video doing exactly that blonde girl did and ruins even further. BBC haven't learn anything from their past I guess.
홍준익 I even saw Gordan Ramsey’s view of making rice.... and sadly enough, he did it the weird way and called it “perfect rice.” At least he did some things that is considered to be acceptable.... *kInDa*
Need to marry a girl like that blonde, so impressed that you can cook rice. It’s gonna blow her mind when I show her my rice cooker that makes perfect rice every time.
There are a few reasons for it, some are more legitimate than others. These are the excuses I've heard: 1) westerners are obsessed with exact measurements in cooking and will legitimately freak out if you eyeball anything. 2) some people have longer fingers so they will complain that it's different for everyone and not precise (see above) 3) many would see putting your finger in the pot as unsanitary.
We all Asian don't used finger I never used finger I used my bare hand to measure the water when i was a kid but now I don't need my hand to I have my mind to measure it and i boil the rice in pressure cooker
@@captaincharisma6574 yeah, you would get there after practice, of course. You just know after awhile, but even that's too imprecise for many westerners I've met. Many will weigh it down to the gram and will legitimately freak out if you eyeball like that. Not all, of course, but my roommates nearly had a stroke when I cooked for them. I didn't measure anything and just knew how much. They won't use their hand to measure even for practice and think it's unsanitary to eat after doing so and "don't want to waste food".
first world country don't read they rather look for the 1800 number on the bag to call and ask for instructions when it's right there and even if they do see the instructions they'll call to ask the same question just to get the same answer
I don't even know that these instructions are there on the rice bag, I thought this is common sense for any person who started to cook, well that's the first thing taught to us anyway and many people who cook like this are not even literate. 😂
The rice I buy says to cook for 10 minutes then drain the remaining water. Nothing about filling to your knuckle, or even this lady's measuring volumes.
@@davids3539 Actually, different rice varieties have different ways to cook. For e.g. in India we have different measures and techniques for basmati rice (used for biryani) and normal rice. The technique shown here is the one we use for normal rice and that's a pretty standard technique.
@@sujith3914 1st thing i learned to cook was eggs because it was cheap and easy to teach a child. Regardless, I can't imagine anyone told you to throw rice and water in a pot and see what happens with no other directions.
I thought this was going to be some epic secret of cooking rice, so disappointed. That is the most basic way to cook rice that everyone should know or get yourself a rice cooker sheesh.
I was just going to write; buy a rice cooker, a bag of rice and follow the instructions on the package. Besides, 1:2 ratio is not for all types of rice. Some need only 1:1.5, while other rice has precise instructions of 1.7 times the water.
Maybe in England they don't have the instructions on bag or she buys out of a bin and her family never taught her how to cook??? She made it like its spaghetti .. Lol
Meanwhile actual Asians: *scoop out rice into rice cooker pot, rinse it, pour water in with a finger as measurement, close the lid, switch it on and leave it.
The Indian lady chef is correct and what you said is also correct. The difference is only on the cooking tools. Normally Asian people like me, we use the rice cooker in regular basis. We use sausepan when rice cooker is not available at the moment. And of course, we likes to be quick and use the simple method (traditional technique) which is measure the water by using the finger. 😁
Because I am from India, I could not think its difficult for some people to get the rice perfectly cooked. Also the water measure depends on the type of the rice specially the red boiled rice that is used in South India, requires a lot of water.
The funny thing about this video is that the BBC shows how not to improperly make rice, and then the egg fried rice video uses this same terrible method.
I didn’t learn how to cook rice by watching this video. So proud to know how to measure water by finger in rice cooker from grandma when I was 10 years old =))) No chef needed.
@Marco says who? Ive been a chef for 30yrs guess whats the quickest way to cook perfect pasta? Oil, cold water, heat. By time water has come to boil the pasta is cooked.....why wait till its boiled then add another 6-7 minutes to cooking time?
I am half Irish half Indonesian and I know very well how to cook rice. I prefer the steaming method though, you can include some herb to make the rice more flavorful.
@@devamshah3110 soak rice for 30 mins. Put water in a pot and bring it to a boil. Wash rice and add it to pot. Let it cook. You don't have to close the pot. Add salt of you want. Let it cook completely. Drain the excess water. We call the process 'saatham vadippathu'
Tip from Brazil: before of put the rice to cook, add some oil (olive, tasteless coconut oil or sunflower), and nice thin-sliced garlic, add just a bit of salt. You can also add turmeric, not just for taste but mainly for health benefits. In resume: Start by sautéing chopped garlic, put salt, and if you like put Tumeric.
us asians dont do that, because our curries and side dishes taste different from brazilian dishes so plain rice goes best with our food, not the seasoned rice
A little condescending don't you think? If you have never been taught how then you don't know. Simple as that. A 10 yr old kid wouldn't do any better unless they are taught. And lets face it, cooking directions on rice packets are useless plus different types of rice need cooking differently.
@@vkanclassicalvt8165 , it sounds like you've been buying the wrong rice, because every package of rice I've ever bought tells you to rinse the rice, use the ratio of 2:1, bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, simmer, covered, for 10-15 minutes, remove from heat, let stand covered 5 minutes or until water is absorbed, fluff with fork and serve. ⬆Everything she said to do in the video.

No body call her blonde...also you need to put salt and 2 table spoon of oil in the water..waiting to be boiling and add the race...wen you see that the water is evaporated then you lower the burner to low and put the led on , don't touch for 25 minutes then you should stern and put top on for 5 minutes more..it will be ready. The water you use depends of de grain of the race. 1 on 1 if is short and medium race 1 1/2 or 2 cup of water for 1 of long race
i dont trust people who : >didn't wash their raw rice >didnt measure the water with the 1st joint of their finger >strain their cooked rice >making wet rice
gamerboy striker are you even asian.... We asians don’t use cups to measure... We use the “finger tip trick”, so the way we use it is basically: We put any amount of water but not too much probably 1/4 less But we wash the rice first then put the clean rice then put the water Then we put our finger in the pan/pot or anything, if you see on our point finger at the top there is a line now you need to make sure the water is halft o the line on the finger (if you understand) we don’t use cups :/
Ok, I try this now and I am nervous. I have never done it before. Now I am done and it has turned out perfectly. Thank you so much for this. Bless you.

Just recently saw the BBC video of the lady making fried rice.
It was definitely a horrific sight for the ages 😬
A year ago BBC showed us the proper way to cook rice, giving us hope that british is changed people now, at least in cooking. But they proved that they are still british yet, who even make jelly out of goddamned fish. I guess they had declared a war to whole Asia.
they cook it the right way after showing the wrong way
Yes we all know that. We were talking about bbc's recent cooking video how to cook the egg fried rice. Although they have uploaded this video an year ago, how to properly cook rice, they uploaded the video doing exactly that blonde girl did and ruins even further. BBC haven't learn anything from their past I guess.

There are a few reasons for it, some are more legitimate than others. These are the excuses I've heard:
1) westerners are obsessed with exact measurements in cooking and will legitimately freak out if you eyeball anything.
2) some people have longer fingers so they will complain that it's different for everyone and not precise (see above)
3) many would see putting your finger in the pot as unsanitary.

I thought I was going to learn a new technique. All I learned was this woman didn't know there are instructions on the bag of rice. 🤭
first world country don't read they rather look for the 1800 number on the bag to call and ask for instructions when it's right there and even if they do see the instructions they'll call to ask the same question just to get the same answer

Yes my fellow asian yes

Yes, but the Indian lady did it correct too, her method is better in a professional setting and is more precise than finger measuring.
The Indian lady chef is correct and what you said is also correct. The difference is only on the cooking tools. Normally Asian people like me, we use the rice cooker in regular basis. Tip from Brazil: before of put the rice to cook, add some oil (olive, tasteless coconut oil or sunflower), and nice thin-sliced garlic, add just a bit of salt. You can also add turmeric, not just for taste but mainly for health benefits.

But we wash the rice first then put the clean rice then put the water
Then we put our finger in the pan/pot or anything, if you see on our point finger at the top there is a line now you need to make sure the water is halft o the line on the finger (if you understand) we don’t use cups :/
