My feelings exactly. We are so spoiled in our urban Western lifestyle, and take so much for granted. I'd probably never bathe or do laundry if I had to do all this!
The amazingly fresh smell from that frozen laundry is unforgettable. My grandma used to bring the frozen clothes inside from the clothes line, the whole house smelled so fresh.... I can never forget that smell.....❤
My brother started to make his own washing detergent without any additives because of his allergies... Strange thing is that the clothes washed with this smells totally fresh and clean like they have been hanging outside to dry even if they have been dried inside.
They are so lucky! They help each other, most of us in the western world don't have anybody, we go alone in our lives. I will trade places with them anytime.
I once experienced a -25F day where I live. The temperature chilled me to the bone, I couldn’t stay outside for more than like 10 minutes without feeling like I was going to pass out. Even with full face protection it felt excruciating to experience. To think these people regularly put up with even worse temperatures on a daily basis is just amazing. Their tenacity is astounding!

It certainly does make sense that what we grow up doing and what we grow used to is just “normal” life. 🤔 Four seasons is my life. There are certainly many upsides to four seasons but yes, there are downsides as well. Spring is rough on my allergies. Summer is full of bug bites, rashes, heat and humidity. Fall is actually always pretty great for me 😊 but then Winter is cold. I have medical conditions that make it hard to regulate my body’s temperature so Summer and Winter can both be rough at times. Even though I always have lived a four seasons life, I think anyone could handle it just fine too though. You could definitely do it. The great thing about four seasons is that each season is over shortly so you just have to hang in there and the next season will be soon but I think that also makes time fly by faster probably too. I really like your comment. Actually, where I live, the majority of people dream about life in the tropics but in reality that would probably be too hard on us since it’s not what we are used to. I love that babies always do that, it's both generous and silly, like they know that they are enjoying eating this thing and want to share, but don't realize yet that other people don't want to share their partly-chewed food.

The sound of their feet crunching in the snow helps to reinforce just how exceptionally cold it is. When I saw the father and son go out from the bathhouse into the frigid air my spine tingled! Here I am dreading the cold air when I step out of the shower into 20 C 😂 I love content like this. This family looks content and seem to care a lot about each other. That makes me happy.
I feel your pain but I have a secret for you. Coming out from a sauna to winter weather feels great and not that cold than getting out of hot shower. It's so refreshing for a minute or so and then you start to feel the cold. Basically you feel that you don't want to be in that heat no more and getting some true cold is orgasmic.
It feels different and actually really great. Not cold-unpleasant cold, but refreshing cold. Really really good. If you ever have a chance to attend a sauna with a freezer room or cold water pool (colder the better), try it. It's great.
Respect to these people. There are days I feel lazy to take a shower, even though it’s so easy for me. Just hop in the shower tub and turn on the warm water and that’s it. It’s the same doing laundry. I don’t think I could survive that harsh lifestyle for long.

In places like Siberia, the elements/weather pose a constant danger to survival, so kids from a young age are taught to have their shit together, be disciplined and prepared. My mum also used to freeze the clothes in the winter in Transylvania, when winters used to be much colder than now. The clothes smelled so fresh! This video brought back these memories from my childhood. I loved this video. Such a beautiful way of life.
I live in Canada but some of my fathers family is from Transylvania so he used to make us a big pot of stew in the winter after coming in from cutting firewood. This video, even though northern Canada isn't nearly as harsh, brought back memories too. There's nothing like eastern European hearty foods after a long day of work!
I was born in Jamaica but I came to the USA when I was 9. I landed in New York in the middle of January and was immediately met with 20°F and snow. I fell in love immediately and forgot about the Caribbean weather. I've always dreamt about being in a place where it's continually snowy and cold...and I think I just found that place. The lifestyle amuses me. It Takes me back to my roots; Doing manual labor for the things we need. It teaches patience, discipline ..and I've realized overall it makes families happier. I live in FL where it's also good & sunny year-round. But still only bathe a couple times a week 😃😁I mean what's the point...just gonna get dirty again. They're the poorest of the poor. The average person in that region has a washing machine indoors with a 100-200L water tank for washing clothes. Showering though, varies grately.

I’m from Irkutsk (much warmer climate in comparison, maximum of -38 Celsius, usually somewhere in 20s) and I LOVE the smell of frozen laundry. Bedsheets especially. I live in a much warmer climate now (Central Europe) so I get to freeze my bedding only a couple of times a year if I’m lucky. My husband doesn’t get it why I do this 😆

Russian here who grew up in the West but who spent my summers in a Russian village with no running water :) actually you grab a smaller amount of water warmed on the stove and use that to wash the essentials. Many places in Russia do not have running water so these sort of “home made bides” are used during that time of the month or daily for those who want!
Watching this video makes me realize that the simple things we take for granted in warmer temperatures in India like bathing, washing clothes are difficult in such extreme climate . Huge respect to the people of Yakutia for overcoming such hardships in daily lives.
My grandma always used to say when she was alive, to never say what you can't do because you will be surprised what you can do if you were ever put in that same situation and had no other choice, and the will to survive is stronger than anything else in this world .
Why not? If I have worked all over the world-bitter cold, bitter hot-Either way, the children have warm beds, a kitchen that looks like a modern kitchen, and power. You will have to cut down trees and split the wood, more than 1 cord a day. Being in a warm bed with heavy blankets sounds fantastic in that weather.

In Mexico City is 18ºC and us, locals, literally wear super warm jackets and winter boots! Also, it's obligatory to complain every day at least once about how cold it is. It's so interesting to see how we've adapted to certain environments. I felt chills just watching them go outside of the bathhouse to rub snow on themselves!!!
When the temperature hits 20°c we normally take out our winter clothing marching on the streets, that's the only time we get to show people that we also have jackets and warm winter clothing, it's so satisfying...🤣🤣🤣
cold is aclimatisation. I live in the Netherlands and for a few years I would go out in a t-shirt on longboard trips when it was 8-10 degrees celsius (sometimes colder), since the workout would keep me warm. Since then, people often ask why I can walk in the cold without a jacket or sweater on. The body can acclimate to cold if you expose yourself to it enough. But in winter I do enjoy a good knitted sweater.

As a student and living in a dormitory I have experienced going out on -10 degrees C out after warming up in the bath, if you warm up properly the cold won't bother you for a short period.
Wicked respect for those people!! When I moved to TN, I remember meeting an old woman in Chattanooga who never had air conditioning her entire life. I asked her how on Earth someone could stay comfortable, especially at night trying to sleep. She said, I was BORN INTO IT and never knew any different. Wow! I suspect it's the same mentality for these folks.
In England Jack Frost came on cold nights and painted beautiful pictures in ice on the inside of the windows. Wonderful fern like patterns they were. We had eiderdowns which were full of feathers which went over the sheets and wool blankets. Now I still have feathers, but in a duvet instead. I still love to hug my hot water bottle and have converted my OH to loving them as well.

Just had my second shower of the day and going to bed in a T shirt. I live in a tropical country and can't imagine surviving in those cold temperatures. I salute them. Although they must be used to it, it's still a tough life. Each member of the family must play their role to survive.
@@lovereachableI live in Malawi, Southern Africa. I'm currently on holiday in India (Hyderabad and later Mumbai) and I still shower twice a day. I just love going to bed fresh and clean and my morning showers are non negotiable.
@@Missreepeein that climate you don't sweat almost, the skin stays clean and dry (you don't get dust on the skin either). When you make a bath once or twice in a week in the winter, it's ok. No sweat, no bacteria, no smell or something.

I absolutely love watching these videos from Yakutia. What an amazing bunch of people and seeing their family bonds in such harsh conditions should be an eye opener for us in the west. We wouldn't last more than a few days doing what they people do on a daily basis.
My aunt was born in Yakutsk to parents from Moscow region due to job assignment policies in the USSR. By the time she reached 3 she was still completely bald and had cold/flu several times a year. After multiple requests the officials relocated the family to the Republic of Georgia, which did help to improve her health. I've heard a lot of good things about Yakutia from my grandparents, but it's really hard for a person used to mild climate to live there.
@@Soontobech I'm from southern region of Russia, basically lived my whole live in mediterranean climate (city is located literally on the shore of the sea) and we have only like month of relatively cold temperature for our region (-20 C) along with storm wind(25 meters per second) because of geographical reasons, so I am not total stranger to coldness/bad weather, but after school I moved to Moscow to study in university and believe me I FELT LIKE I WILL DIE FIRST WINTER IN HERE. I am not really used to warm clothes, so most of the time, as force of habbit, I dress in same winter clothes (practically none of them are) like in my hometown and it's horrific to endure. I think I'd actually just die in Yakutia. Also, in my dormitory there are a lot of people from Middle East/Africa and I can't even phantom how hard it must be for them during winter

It's great to see the family all have a role to play and without each other life becomes more and more difficult. They keep each other spirits up and seem very happy. It would be extremely difficult to live alone in a place like this. I think it would be too lonely.

They just seem so wholesome, relaxed, and happy. Yes it’s harsh and a lot of work but they don’t have the stress of dealing with city life, social media, keeping up “status” etc.
If we’d just get rid of instagram, twitter and tiktok, normal modern city life would be a million times better. That’s the main source of all our anxiety and misery.

I figured out why I like these videos so much. Obviously, they make me curious about a place and people that is far, far away. But the videos are also exceptionally well done - the angles sometimes remind me of Dorothea Lang's photographs. And the foreground/background is often wonderful. And Kiun's voice is soooo calming. Harsh living is when you are homeless or when war devastated what was once your home, and you have to scrape by just to get food or coal to stay warm. I do not see this here.
It's amazing how they've adapted to such cold temperatures and use them to their advantage. The bit with the guys running out of the bathhouse to cool off made me chuckle. I've taken a bath that was too hot before and then stepped outside to cool off in the winter air. It really is invigorating so I can definitely see why they think that!

I love seeing how people live around the world , this feels like it’s not even on the same planet with how different you’re lives are to peoples lives in America or Europe etc, this is like a whole new world. wow! i’m actually from Yakutia and i live in the city (Yakutsk) but my grandma lives in village so i’m familiar with all of this stuff:) actually right now it’s even colder than usual! past few days it was around -52 in the city and even lower in countryside (it was almost -60 there!!!) i’m in a high school so i’m literally praying for the same temperature so i won’t go to school tomorrow xD всем якутам привет!:))

People keep commenting on how hard their lives look, but it seems really idealic to me. They have a really close knit family, defined roles and purpose within that, they know everyone in their community, etc. I grew up in a very cold place, and I didn't see any of it as horrific.

This is the healthiest bath ever because your entire system is detoxifying. For those who may not feel comfortable with this you can also just heat water on the wood stove in-between for washing yourself. I used to hang my laundry next to our wood stove to dry after washing it on the wood stove in big metal pots. Your laundry smells absolutely fresh and amazing 💌

No family to support you, no one to help get you settled and figure everything out, etc It's far more difficult to go out into a very different world all on your own, and if i imagine that were me I know I'd get horribly homesick very quickly.
Oh I enjoyed this video so much. Of course I don’t know this family and no where is perfect but what struck me was the closeness. Just the simplicity of spending time with your parents and eating dinner together as a family. Those things are so important.

When I lived in Minnesota, we didn't have running water for several months. I gathered up many, many buckets of snow and melted it on the stove. (it takes much more snow than you think!) I did my bathing in a plastic tote. We also had an outhouse during this time and temps got down to -40F that winter. We slept in 2-3 layers of clothes, hats and gloves.
This is one of those videos where you realize you probably couldn't do this longer than a week. Lot of respect for these people.

I once experienced a -25F day where I live. The temperature chilled me to the bone, I couldn’t stay outside for more than like 10 minutes without feeling like I was going to pass out. Even with full face protection it felt excruciating to experience.

It certainly does make sense that what we grow up doing and what we grow used to is just “normal” life. 🤔 Four seasons is my life. There are certainly many upsides to four seasons but yes, there are downsides as well. Spring is rough on my allergies. Summer is full of bug bites, rashes, heat and humidity. Fall is actually always pretty great for me 😊 but then Winter is cold. I have medical conditions that make it hard to regulate my body’s temperature so Summer and Winter can both be rough at times. Even though I always have lived a four seasons life, I think anyone could handle it just fine too though. You could definitely do it. The great thing about four seasons is that each season is over shortly so you just have to hang in there and the next season will be soon but I think that also makes time fly by faster probably too. I really like your comment. Actually, where I live, the majority of people dream about life in the tropics but in reality that would probably be too hard on us since it’s not what we are used to. The sound of their feet crunching in the snow helps to reinforce just how exceptionally cold it is. When I saw the father and son go out from the bathhouse into the frigid air my spine tingled! I feel your pain but I have a secret for you. Coming out from a sauna to winter weather feels great and not that cold than getting out of hot shower. It's so refreshing for a minute or so and then you start to feel the cold. Basically you feel that you don't want to be in that heat no more and getting some true cold is orgasmic.
It feels different and actually really great. Not cold-unpleasant cold, but refreshing cold. Really really good. If you ever have a chance to attend a sauna with a freezer room or cold water pool (colder the better), try it. It's great.
I couldn’t survive a hour there. When the temp drops below 20 celcius here I’m done. Put the water heater on and stuff.

My mum also used to freeze the clothes in the winter in Transylvania, when winters used to be much colder than now. The clothes smelled so fresh! This video brought back these memories from my childhood.

I live in Canada but some of my fathers family is from Transylvania so he used to make us a big pot of stew in the winter after coming in from cutting firewood. I was born in Jamaica but I came to the USA when I was 9. I landed in New York in the middle of January and was immediately met with 20°F and snow. I fell in love immediately and forgot about the Caribbean weather. I've always dreamt about being in a place where it's continually snowy and cold...and I think I just found that place.
The lifestyle amuses me. It Takes me back to my roots; Doing manual labor for the things we need. It teaches patience, discipline ..and I've realized overall it makes families happier.

They're the poorest of the poor. The average person in that region has a washing machine indoors with a 100-200L water tank for washing clothes. Showering though, varies grately.
What I absolutely loved about this documentary despite being very informative is how well the love and warmth in this home is shown! As hard and harsh the outter conditions may be, watching this makes me somehow wanna be a part of their family...
I’m from Irkutsk (much warmer climate in comparison, maximum of -38 Celsius, usually somewhere in 20s) and I LOVE the smell of frozen laundry. Bedsheets especially. I live in a much warmer climate now (Central Europe) so I get to freeze my bedding only a couple of times a year if I’m lucky. My husband doesn’t get it why I do this 😆

Russian here who grew up in the West but who spent my summers in a Russian village with no running water :) actually you grab a smaller amount of water warmed on the stove and use that to wash the essentials. Many places in Russia do not have running water so these sort of “home made bides” are used during that time of the month or daily for those who want!

In Mexico City is 18ºC and us, locals, literally wear super warm jackets and winter boots! Also, it's obligatory to complain every day at least once about how cold it is. It's so interesting to see how we've adapted to certain environments.

cold is aclimatisation. I live in the Netherlands and for a few years I would go out in a t-shirt on longboard trips when it was 8-10 degrees celsius (sometimes colder), since the workout would keep me warm. Since then, people often ask why I can walk in the cold without a jacket or sweater on.
The body can acclimate to cold if you expose yourself to it enough.
But in winter I do enjoy a good knitted sweater.

As a student and living in a dormitory I have experienced going out on -10 degrees C out after warming up in the bath, if you warm up properly the cold won't bother you for a short period.
Wicked respect for those people!! When I moved to TN, I remember meeting an old woman in Chattanooga who never had air conditioning her entire life. I asked her how on Earth someone could stay comfortable, especially at night trying to sleep. She said, I was BORN INTO IT and never knew any different. Wow! I suspect it's the same mentality for these folks.
I'm 60. Nobody I knew had air conditioning when I was young. We opened windows
In England Jack Frost came on cold nights and painted beautiful pictures in ice on the inside of the windows. Wonderful fern like patterns they were. We had eiderdowns which were full of feathers which went over the sheets and wool blankets. Now I still have feathers, but in a duvet instead. I still love to hug my hot water bottle and have converted my OH to loving them as well.

@@Missreepeein that climate you don't sweat almost, the skin stays clean and dry (you don't get dust on the skin either). When you make a bath once or twice in a week in the winter, it's ok. No sweat, no bacteria, no smell or something.

I absolutely love watching these videos from Yakutia. What an amazing bunch of people and seeing their family bonds in such harsh conditions should be an eye opener for us in the west. We wouldn't last more than a few days doing what they people do on a daily basis.

My aunt was born in Yakutsk to parents from Moscow region due to job assignment policies in the USSR. By the time she reached 3 she was still completely bald and had cold/flu several times a year. After multiple requests the officials relocated the family to the Republic of Georgia, which did help to improve her health. I've heard a lot of good things about Yakutia from my grandparents, but it's really hard for a person used to mild climate to live there.
@@Soontobech I'm from southern region of Russia, basically lived my whole live in mediterranean climate (city is located literally on the shore of the sea) and we have only like month of relatively cold temperature for our region (-20 C) along with storm wind(25 meters per second) because of geographical reasons, so I am not total stranger to coldness/bad weather, but after school I moved to Moscow to study in university and believe me I FELT LIKE I WILL DIE FIRST WINTER IN HERE. I am not really used to warm clothes, so most of the time, as force of habbit, I dress in same winter clothes (practically none of them are) like in my hometown and it's horrific to endure. I think I'd actually just die in Yakutia.
Also, in my dormitory there are a lot of people from Middle East/Africa and I can't even phantom how hard it must be for them during winter

I figured out why I like these videos so much. Obviously, they make me curious about a place and people that is far, far away. But the videos are also exceptionally well done - the angles sometimes remind me of Dorothea Lang's photographs. And the foreground/background is often wonderful. And Kiun's voice is soooo calming. The pleasantries are watching a family working together and loving each other despite their HARSH environment. Harsh living is when you are homeless or when war devastated what was once your home, and you have to scrape by just to get food or coal to stay warm. I do not see this here.

wow! i’m actually from Yakutia and i live in the city (Yakutsk) but my grandma lives in village so i’m familiar with all of this stuff:) actually right now it’s even colder than usual! past few days it was around -52 in the city and even lower in countryside (it was almost -60 there!!!) i’m in a high school so i’m literally praying for the same temperature so i won’t go to school tomorrow xD всем якутам привет!:))

@laudelfla in my country (Australia) they still send kids out to play in 40 degrees celcius. The roads literally melt. I even remember one day when the temperature reached 50 degrees celcius.

People keep commenting on how hard their lives look, but it seems really idealic to me. They have a really close knit family, defined roles and purpose within that, they know everyone in their community, etc. I grew up in a very cold place, and I didn't see any of it as horrific.

This is the healthiest bath ever because your entire system is detoxifying. For those who may not feel comfortable with this you can also just heat water on the wood stove in-between for washing yourself. I used to hang my laundry next to our wood stove to dry after washing it on the wood stove in big metal pots. Your laundry smells absolutely fresh and amazing 💌
Your system doesn't need to detox if you have a liver, kidneys, etc. Don't buy into the whole "toxins" BS.

Especially, the young protagonists often children who proudly show each tradition and daily activities with joy and enthusiasm! Keep up the good work! In future, I would love to see a day in their school life as well!
I'm absolutely fascinated by the lifestyle of the Yakutian people. I've been watching videos on them for years, and I'm still amazed at how hard life is for them. I wonder if they know what they're missing, and why they stay there instead of searching for a more comfortable, convenient life. Much respect to them. ❤

They have Satellite TV. I'm pretty sure they know what the rest of the world is like, seeing probably makes them really appreciate the fact they don't have to deal with "modern world".
@@mannyonaleash2222 not just "modern world" i have no doubt they'd find things about it that they'd love just like we all do
But similar to being born into a cult and trying to leave, once you go it will be just you on your own.
No family to support you, no one to help get you settled and figure everything out, etc
It's far more difficult to go out into a very different world all on your own, and if i imagine that were me I know I'd get horribly homesick very quickly.

Oh I enjoyed this video so much. Of course I don’t know this family and no where is perfect but what struck me was the closeness. Just the simplicity of spending time with your parents and eating dinner together as a family. Those things are so important.

When I lived in Minnesota, we didn't have running water for several months. I gathered up many, many buckets of snow and melted it on the stove. (it takes much more snow than you think!) I did my bathing in a plastic tote. We also had an outhouse during this time and temps got down to -40F that winter. We slept in 2-3 layers of clothes, hats and gloves.
