Today in our 2015 Kia Sportage, we're gonna take a look at and show you how to install the tow-ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with the four pole flat trailer connector. Part number is 118526. Now when we're ready to use our wiring, all we have to do is open up our cargo area here. Find it located underneath, and pull it on out. Now you'll see here where it's gonna go over a threshold. It's nice and cushy there, it's gonna give it plenty of room.
We can close our door right over the top of it, just want to avoid that striker area. That would certainly do damage to your wire. Close your door up, got our four pole out here ready to go. Now to test out our wiring, any test light is going to do the job. We want to connect our ground clamp to the bare stud sticking out. That's going to be the ground that's going to test it for us.
Next we'll have the running lights in the car turned on. That should give us a constant signal from the brown wire. All right, next we have drivers side blinker turned on. That should be a flashing signal from the yellow. Now we have the right side blinker turned on, should be the same signal from the green wire.
And finally, we'll have them apply the brakes. And with the brakes applied, we should have constant signal from the yellow and the green. All right, everything's working as it should, we can just bundle our wire back up and tuck it away until we need it. Now here's what our custom wiring harness is going to look like. This is really a nice custom fit wiring kit, as you can see just things like grommets are installed already where we're going to be passing this through the vehicle's body. We've got the factory style connectors here, which are going to allow us to connect, in this case, right behind our passenger side tail light.
Connectors here match up with our factory connectors to get all of the signals. And eventually those signals all are going to come and they're wind up in our converter box. This is going to take those signals, it's going to take twelve volt power from the batteries, so it's not drawing any power from the lighting system, it's getting it directly from the battery, and it uses that power to convert it over to a usable signal that's sent down our four pole wire to the trailer or cargo carrier or whatever we need lights for. Small ground wire here will use the provided self tapping screw to secure, and we've got a nice hardware kit. We've got some zip ties, we've got some butt connectors, ring terminal, a fuse that's going to go into our fuse terminal, that's going to protect our circuits from any kind of overload, and then we're also going to have that twelve volt wire that we can run from the back here up to the front where we'll make the connection with our battery. Now we're going to start in here at the driver's side tail light housing. There's going to be two Phillips screws, one here and one here. We're going to remove those, and then we can pull that housing out. With those out, we'll want to pull directly rearward on our housing to separate the clips that are holding it in place. Then we're going to press in on the small connector right there, and separate that. Next we need to remove our rear threshold plate here. It kind of tucks in underneath this panel, so we'll want to get that panel set aside. We'll also take this out to give us a little bit of room to work. Now you can see underneath the panel there, you can use a screwdriver, or like we're doing, a trim panel tool. We're going to have some fasteners that run across here. We want to pop those up, just like that. Now, with all those loose, we're going to grab a small Phillips head screwdriver, and we're going to have one, two, and three fasteners here that we want to take out. Just put out screwdriver in there and we can loosen up that center core. Once we've got that loosened up, it will come out. We just reach in behind that with our trim panel tool and that will pop out as well. You do that for the two remaining that we have here. Now we just pull up and lift that right out. Now we've got three screws to remove here. We've got one back here on the threshold itself, and then we're going to have two and three right down here in our floor. Now we'll need to remove the little appearance panel that's located right behind our driver's side rear wheel. It's going to have the same style fasteners the threshold did. Pull those out. Once the two of those are removed, just kinda grab it, just kinda pull downward on it. Now we are going to be releasing two other clips up on the top, but they're relatively easy to separate. You just pull down on them

Just installed on my husbands Kia. Purchased the hitch and wiring kit from your site and followed your videos. Thank you so much for making these instructional videos. It made the process possible for a first timer.

Installed mine today along with the receiver hitch in your other video. Sure wish I had the lift y'all have. Instead, I got to lay in the snow and crawl under my Kia. But thanks do these videos, things went quickly and I only made myself bleed once. I ordered from your site. Great prices, free shipping and was here in two days (nothing gets here that fast!). Definitely earned a repeat customer here! Highly recommend these folks!

I think this video is missing one part - there is a plug by the appearance panel that has to be connected. (And the panel put back.) Otherwise, this video helped me save money by putting my own hitch and wiring on!
