Doing stuff public may be a way to put yourself look better. But with the right intent an honorable act. Though maybe the personal apology was the most unselfish move. And i noticed Tims Body language turned More defensive (arms crossed) it can even be a form of power abuse, to make yourself look mature and shed light on your own goodness. Sure you say nice things but People only pick up on the act rather than for what it really is .Its more normal than People think and even unconscious level.

Gary did a great job of restraining himself to not interrupt. Even stopped team from doing another call “let him finish this”. At 42:30 started to explode from calm vibe. Hahahaha. Love love love his public apology at the end.

Question of the day: when i was 24, I got blackout drunk and crashed my car. The next day I was fired from my job.

  • @TheJCFiles
    @TheJCFiles 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

This is probably the best #askgaryvee I've seen. He let people speak and it's amazing that he apologised publicly....I saw the talk where he said "F*ck 4 hour work week" and I was confused as that was the main book that pushed me to quit my job this year and go all in.
1,000,000% respect Gary and Thank you Tim for all you've done and are doing!
Answer to Tim's Question the question: My biggest failure was my last business/side hustle which pushed me to breaking point so many times and in the end I had to quit it (losing so much money) but actually turned out to be the best thing as it made me so self aware of my weaknesses that I was trying to fix over the course of 6 years (which made not much improvements to the business and just tons of stress - I should have leveraged other people).
Letting go of that business let to me being able to starting a new side hustle last year which was focused on my strengths and quit my full time job 8 months later - never felt so relieved/free in my life.

I almost died from a rapid onset illness that left me bed ridden for 18 months. When I finally wasn't in pain and felt alive and free again, it put everything into perspective for me. What used to be a "bad day" would now be one of the best days of my life. Perspective is everything and I am fortunate to have experienced this at such a young age.

Yeah, this is Gary when he actually respects his guest. For him to say sorry for interrupting was like woah, Gary actually finally apologized for that to his guest?! Hell must have frozen over.. (and he sold all of the stock shares to hell right beforehand and is the only one who saw it coming and walked away ballin'). But yeah no, I never see Gary show respect to his guests until this episode/Tim.

  • @Reid_Madsen

This is one of the greatest if not the greatest episode to ever hit this channel. The amount of respect these two have for each other is something that you could feel through the screen. This was one of the first episodes where Gary didn't interrupt someone several times (Which I know is not meant in a negative way, more so to expedite a process of understanding WHICH IS FINE) but Gary really sat back and let Tim speak which speaks volumes to how much appreciation he has for Tim, especially with the apology at the end. Two real admirable men who put great energy into this world. Thank you both. - Reid

You just hit me with something that changed my business perspective - build my business in a way that makes people come to me. Most people are chasing the clients... And that sales drive makes us a lot of money. But if I start building in a way that the client comes to me... That changes the way I do everything! It changes the ads I run, the videos I create, the meetings I do... Brilliant advice! Thank you so much!

Last year, on my 40th birthday, I was stricken with immense pain. I ended up in the hospital and after two weeks in and out of emergency rooms and hospital beds, and beginning to lose feeling in my left foot, they discovered I had a cyst on my spine. During the 4 months of pain and recovery from surgery, I developed the idea that is going to save me (and others). What should have been a devastating moment became the thing that started the greatest transformation of my life.

The idea of accountability to money, others, limits etc. to make sure you get systems in place is exactly what I needed to hear. I’ve heard this but it’s amazing that when and from who you hear this stuff, it cuts deep to the root of the problem and forces you to act
Thank you two soooooo much for all you do.

My office was flooded a few years ago and I lost so much equipment and furniture and Stuff I had for 15 years of running a company. And in hind sight it was one of the best things that happened to me. I stopped looking at things being so precious, I got rid of so much dead weight. I ended a working relationship that I was always on the losing side of. I found my own voice and confidence in doing things on my own. I became way more profitable, personally and professionally. And I stopped complaining and just did what needed to be done and was grateful to be doing it my way. Been Following both Tim and Gary for over a decade and love that they have been proven right so many times over.

I learned so much from this episode. Personally, I found the idea of hip hop pushing the boundaries quite interesting. Looking at some of the best musicians in history (Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, e.t.c.), each artist knew all of the "rules" or parameters and revolutionized them.
For example, "The Well Tempered Clavier" by Bach was a huge success because it was interesting to a listener's ears. Bach took the laws of counterpoint and interpreted them in his own way. Beethoven, the grandfather of the orchestra, was the first to add voices to the symphony with "Ode to Joy". Mozart started learning piano when he was a young child. He knew all of the rules, and he loved to write satirical passages to make the music whimsical.
While these composers are now known as traditional and part of an older culture, during their time, they were revolutionary. They learned all of the rules so they could later make it their own.

This may sound odd but my greatest success to date was actually losing the state championship wrestling match in high-school my senior year. I was disqualified by points.. I mean I got destroyed.. maybe from an objective point of view, but internally the lessons I learned from that loss has led me to sustain multiple victories in many different arenas since. It really was the greatest failure I ever lived. Thank you Tim and thank you Gary for reminding me of that memory.. onto the next championship match.

Amazing episode. I admire you both so much.
To answer the Question of The Day: I went on “The Bachelor” thinking it was my big break... and it totally wasn’t. I was not only sent home on night one of the show, but I also had what is considered to be one of the most embarrassing moments of the show’s history.
This slapped me in the face with the reality of how naive I was and as a result, it presented me with what I really wanted in life and who I really wanted to become. I let go of the “fancy” and took the leap to “eat shit for however many years it takes” to build my own business teaching painting classes with an emotional / Hero’s journey twist, (which has been growing over the last 3 years). I finally began to WAKE UP to my own truths and started listening to people like you two.
So grateful for that failure, so that I could find myself watching this video right now. 💗

Getting fired by my best friends 3 years ago... basically gave me all my time back and finally kicked my ass into gear to start the business that I run today. Was devastating as I was a personal trainer and basically lost my entire client base to the gym. But 2 years of grind later.. I run my own food business that I took from $0 to $500,000 revenue and we continue to grow. I literally believe everything can be a positive

  • @nazdumanskyy
    @nazdumanskyy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Such an awesome episode! To answer Tim's question, I think I'm still too young to fully know, what failure has lead to a blessing. However, there was one big setback that I guess has led me to a much better life. And I think many people will agree with me on this one. It was when I moved from Ukraine to USA. We all know it's not easy going from your home country to a place where you can't even understand anyone because you don't know the language. I came to America in 4th grade. I remember myself studying for hours and hours non stop, because it took me that much longer to try and understand what I'm trying to learn. I remember myself crying because you you try to read the book for the test, but half way through you realize that none of it was syncing in. But those struggles, and I'm sure a lot of people can relate, have taught me about patience and hard work. Because 8th grade, 4 years after coming to America, I went from Cs and Ds, to straight As. And that transformation will stick with me forever. Anyways, much thanks for the awesome content you guys provide!

"What failure turned into a recipe for success?" About half a year ago I got laidoff from one of my jobs due to a technicality. It sucked, it was half of my income really, but for the month prior to that moment I started on my side hustle fully. Spent every second outside of my jobs on it. Within a day I had double the amount of time I could work on this project, now to be brand. I hustled greatly was able to make a business plan, website, multiple social media accounts, loads of content in a matter of two weeks.
I aimed for great things, and I still had great ambitions. This failure to some people's eyes was more than likely inevitable, even if I had quit the job instead, and it lead me to start being able to work on it much quicker.

Amazing episode. Dream come true! Gary & Tim you have both been tremendous mentors to me throughout the years. The failure of my first business left me almost broke and depressed, I studied the techniques Tim teaches about lifestyle design and automation paired with Gary's teachings on execution of social through authenticity, grit, and intent. My first loss in business (Almost 80K), forced me to be creative and have a lean business model that required less cash in my second venture. I now have a Sport's Media Company I can operate remotely that provides me the means to live the life I've always wanted. Thank you for all of your work I am eternally grateful to both of you

Great episode. I've been consuming less of Gary's content lately and focusing on myself and what I want in life all by DOING. But then he teams up with Tim... So please read on...
Tim is an interesting human being on too many levels NOT to watch this episode.
The answer to Tim's question: I was let go from my job of 3 years back in July. There were a lot of factors at play, but it was ultimately my fault. Coming to terms with that has been like lifting a huge weight from my soul. I'm in the process of starting a new business and (regardless of its success or failure) I will have at least had the privilege and opportunity to try.
We get one shot at this. Be a good human being and don't die with any regrets. 2 goals we should all seek to attain.

Gary being so in touch with his emotions with that apologize at the end .. GOD it got me in tears, i hate you guys you just melted my heart .
seriously tho, i really really love how Gary really stays true to himself, and don't let "ego" or anything of that kind to ruin his beautiful relationships,
it's so beautiful seeing that humans actually can stay humble, true, loving and caring no matter how much success or fame they have, and i'm so happy that Gary is the one who is proving it, he deserves all the recognition he has and i truly love him, not for the business insights ... etc but for how much love and caring he carries in his big heart, he's just a beautiful human being and thanks god i was born in a period of time when he's alive and i have the chance to be taught and "influenced" by him.
    all love from Algeria ^^

Failure for future success: I failed to get that job at Mc. Donalds and now run my own business.
Bonus: I failed to buy the car I really really wanted and then 6 months later I get my parents van for so cheap and go on adventures in it all the time! Screw that stupid car xD

I was rejected for wanting to be an educator by a big brand for using a variety of other brands - that next day I started Curly Hair Artistry and am reaching around the globe with organic reach training others to do the same thing in developing a personal brand vision, live training sessions in USA and abroad and online courses with those that can not travel. Its been 4 years since my rejection and its people like Gary VEE and Tim F. that make an impact on what I do as there is no-one else ahead of me grinding and guiding me - so I am a pioneer in that I lead a journey helping others to do the same.

QOTD: answer: dropping out of high school senior year. When I was an A-B student felt like a huge mistake at the time and everyone reminded me of that every single second. Deep down I knew it was the Right choice for me, but being young and everyone telling me I was wrong at the time felt like a huge mistake. I ended up getting my GED and going to collage years later; but having the backbone to make a big decision like that on my own and facing it head on into it despite everyone’s opinion around me. Looking back now learning to trust my self despite everyone’s opinion is the best lesson I learn in high school.

GaryVee admiration and respect for Tim was soooooooo obvious and I know why. GaryVee always preach "put out content, put out content." After I read "the 4 hour work week." I had to check out who is Tim Ferris and it was unbelievable how much research he has done to get his books out and the level of content and to date his Podcast is the example, challenge, marker and talk about for many. "You cannot Love other people Fully if you just tolerate yourself, so if not for yourself, for other people like your family and love ones you have to reconcile with bits and pieces inside of you." Tim Ferris-Priceless! Lots of love from Jamaica GaryVee. WOW! That apology had me melting.

I like this Tim so much better then earlier version. He seemed so sleazy from 4 hour work week. Hacking a championship title but losing the spirit of being a true champion just seemed sad but he has grown so much. It would be good if he discussed this more.

Simple round up for the time poor:
    - Enjoy being the underdog
    - Learn to give a direct no without clauses
    - If you’re unsure if entrepreneurship is for you take on a simple and easy entrepreneurial project to see if it feels natural (eg. flip something on ebay for a profit)
    - Make calculated decisions to mitigate financial risk but don’t get stuck on emotional decisions that prevent you from taking action
    - Practice getting comfortable with discomfort (eg. consistently ask for 10% off your coffee)
    - Take perspective on the macro outcome and don’t focus on the micro losses

QOTD: Most of my childhood lol. Biggest ones:
    1) Moving many times in younger years. while i don't have any "roots", that also means nothing is tying me down. Allows me to be open and take jobs across the country. No worries about making new friends, or if I'll be lonely.
    2) Bad relationships and jobs. Some situations are bad, and only get better when you leave it. The world is big, you don't have to confront everything. Get up and leave, if it's not worth your time.

One failure that turned out to be exactly what I needed was dropping out of art school. If I hadn’t have done that I don’t think I would’ve had the urgency to buckle down and hone my skills on my own. That first year was difficult but i learned the meaning of believing in the journey, work ethic, and determination. Looking back I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.
Thanks guys for this awesome talk and congrats Kevin Rose!
