Don’t ever think you can’t refinish wood furniture. I love this piece! I’m not sure what I would have done. Stripping etc takes so much more time is is so messy. But I definitely prefer the look of stained antique furniture. Love watching you work! So much better than doing the work yourself. Keep going with this worthwhile work.
I commented earlier about cringing while watching you remove the veneer ….just finished your video and I do want to say that I am so happy you saved this piece and that it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL 😻 I’d be happy to have this in my home ❤️
*Abby, I enjoyed this video so very much! It turned out beautifully; I always prefer stained furniture over painted furniture, even though there are times when pieces are so badly damaged the only way to save them from the burn pile or the landfill is to paint them. 😉🤎* *This little shelf has so much character with the decorative details and the curvy spindle legs❣️ I admire your decision to trust the process and embrace the imperfections and push through the challenges of heat 🔥 and humidity, 💦 🙉 when it would have been easier to quit‼️👏👏👏 You ROCK❣️ The snips of REAL GREENERY in that lovely ivory vintage ironstone crazed pitcher elevated your staging vignette to a dreamy elegance. 🤍🌿🤍 I look forward to your next upcycle❣️🥰🪴❤️🤍💙🇺🇸*

Just love watching you create such lovely pieces from their humble state of decay! The delight you have in doing this, is so refreshing to see. This piece was especially impressive. You restored it to enhance it's journey instead of hiding it's scars! Awesome!
“Perfectly Imperfect” is honestly the cutest way to describe it!!! I love this cute little piece!!! You really did a great job and you’re making me want to try gel stain!!
Do it! It’s an easy stain to work with…unless it’s hot. It did not work well for me when it was 90ish. It dried too fast and was super streaky. I think you can mix mineral spirits in it to have a longer work time tho.
lol I made this comment while watching before she was applying the gel stain with it being hot. Mine was a dresser top and I had trouble with it in the heat.
We were blessed to inherit quite a few pieces that remind me of this one. We know how many generations had used them, and that they are over 100 years old. Several have a few issues similar to the ones you dealt with, so I am excited to have learned about all the different products and tools you used. When you brought out the box of specialized sanding blocks, I was just amazed! I can't begin to tell you how glad I am that you brought this gorgeous piece back to life. I like to imagine how people used our pieces over the years. I was also amazed at your patience and determination to revive this piece. Now you have a stunning cabinet to use in your home, and hand down to the next generation!!
Thank you so much!! These are my favorite styles of furniture. I love the details and pretty different wood patterns. It’s definitely worth the effort for it’s uniqueness 🫶

I dabble in rehabbing furniture and am a do-it-yourselfer and you are very inspiring for me. Keep up the “doing you” and ignore the negative whiners out there! Love the little piece you stained.
It’s so beautiful, Abby! I love the character of it. It reminds me of a desk that friends gave me to refinish. It has some scratches and dings and I think I’m just going to roll with it like you did bc you’re right, it does tell a story.
I love this piece! To me, I prefer antiques stained. I believe it help tell its story. I'm not against painting furniture. There is a "right" finish for every piece.
It turned out beautifully! I agree that you can mix and match more modern "perfect" pieces with older imperfect ones to add layers of texture and dimension.
It looks absolutely beautiful! It was great seeing the entire process. You put so much time and work into it. You restored it to a gorgeous unique piece! I love it! I’m glad you stained it, as it holds the age and true intention. The molding and details really make it special! 100% better without the laminate! Excellent job!! 👍🏻👍🏻🌸
I really like this piece too, quirky! I’m only part way through and I’m sure others have said, it’s easier to remove veneer if you apply some heat with an iron or heatgun. You should be able to get it off as a sheet and please save it 🙏. Older veneers are much thicker and will be so useful for patching older pieces. I hope we will see you do some veneer repairs soon, personally I find it a lot easier than removing and replacing, and it’s definitely well within your considerable skills. Looking forward to seeing the rest later and finding out how it turns out.
Yes, there are stories along with the beauty of the se old pieces. I love the wood and patina of antiques. Thank you for saving and recognizing the beauty of these pieces. Hopefull the trend of 'orange-hate" is over. Great job and patience is cleaning up this piece.
