At last, a real restoration video! Thank you so much for this, I found it fascinating. Glad to see someone that actually restores historic pieces to as near original condition as possible. Most "restorers" just tear off the top layer of wood, paint it in chalk paint, and call it restored. Beautifully done, and with respect to the original construction methods. Excellent!
My pleasure! Your comment is very encouraging for me and I am glad that enthusiasts like you are watching me. I try to live with the piece I have, not just make a video. This was one of the most incredible restorations I've ever seen. That chest may not be as old as the house it was in, but it has to be extremely ancient.

So worth the time and effort you put into this restoration, a stunning piece of furniture made to be taken apart and transported to another location. I learned much about using pegs and dowels in keeping furniture together and this is a splendid example of the process. Thanks for sharing with us !!
Wow, great comment! Thank you for all the kindness. I am glad that enthusiasts like you are watching my renovation videos and I will be happy to benefit from your experiences as well.
What a beautiful restoration work. I only wish its centuries-old patina had not been stripped away. 90& of its value as an antique was lost with the sanding. Sad to see it gone. A deep cleansing would've given it the same finish but without the permanent damage. I gladly subscribe to your channel, knowing that practice and error make the master. Thanks for sharing the detailed process of your work. Good luck. Cheers
I am very happy that enthusiasts like you are concerned about history and give us detailed expert tips. If you have noticed, there were two chests of this style in the video, we have removed the bigger chest and the smaller chest was healthy and there was no need to remove the patina on it, but the bigger chest suffered burns in several areas during these hundreds of years. Also, holes have been created by modern iron nails and we have tried to fix them and give life to this box again.
What beautiful white flecked wood this is ! And not one trace of woodworm in it too. A beautful noble piece of praticle furniture brought back to life. Bravo !!
It's amazing to find a rare ancient piece of furniture. I am surprised at how old it is. Thank you for your time and incredible skill to carefully take apart and put it back together. I mean fixing all the issues that needed attention. May it be perserved for another five hundred years or more. 😊
If ever a piece of furniture could jump for joy, it is this exquisite piece. Your care and dedication to maintaining as much of the original wood as possible made watching this video a delight, indeed. Your use of the original sandings and "filings" as fillers....BRILLIANT! I hope you keep this piece and give it the love it so richly deserves.
Thank you for your very nice comment. Of course, because of the history of this chest, we have restored it and tried to use the traditional woodwork of the time and removed the extra iron nails that were added to it, which distorted the originality of the chest. I'm glad you enjoyed the skills and techniques used in this video.
Thanks my friend, I'm glad you enjoyed the 500 year old chest restoration project, if you would like me to restore the pieces that are in that house...?
Thank you. This was a trip to Italy for me. The tree, thst house, that chest, your work without words in sound, except for the birds and tools. Grazie. Multi bene.
I love watching old furniture restored. This is the oldest one I've seen. It was just incredible how it was originally put together. Bravo for restoring it with the same methods and care. The sesame oil really made it look gorgeous. I love the old chain used to open and close the dresser then "lock" it. Amazing!❤😊
Like you, I love history and its belongings. Exactly, we wanted to use only the traditional method that was used when making it, even sesame oil for its appearance. Thank you for watching this restoration video my friend
What makes you think it isn't 500 years old? The construction technique is certainly right: we have surviving examples of panel construction going all the way back to ancient Egypt, and though while 500 years is a long time for a wooden piece to survive, there are plenty of pieces that old around, particularly in arid climates. There are even violin makers who seek out pieces of this vintage to dismantle and make into instruments.
Да, чувак, где-то в мире есть вещи, которые за 500 лет не сломали и не сожгли, не распилили на дрова, не продали на рынке и не поставили в коридор коммуналки. Знаю, это сложно, но нужно принять этот факт. 😂
What a magnificent result from all your work.💞💞 I was so frightened that you would butcher that ancient chest, but instead you brought it back to Life! Thank you for sharing.🥰
Restoring furniture and furniture is very enjoyable, especially if it is old, and it relieves the tiredness of all this work. Thank you for your comment
Interesting video and a good restoration but as a chemist I did raise my eyebrows at your home made cleaning solution. Without going into the chemical equations, what you are doing is adding two acids to an alkali with the result that you are simply creating some pretty inert sodium salts in a neutral solution. The fluid you produce isn't cleaning the furniture, it's simply the action of you agitating the wet surface with wire wool to dislodge the dirt. You would be far better off, and it would be far cheaper, to use a mild detergent. Don't waste money when you don't have to.
Thanks my friend, I didn't check it in terms of chemistry, but this solution worked well, the old solution was white vinegar and baking soda, I added the rest myself...
New England folk info includes the vinegar/baking soda trick with a comment that the effervescence works to lift dirt. The Coca Cola additive is also folk based after WWii, when experiential learning showed that it would lift the finish off of most anything.
@@CreativeIdeasMaker I'm no chemist but since baking soda is basic and vinegar is acidic, I would guess you'd have the same problem of them neutralizing each other and becoming useless.
I enjoyed watching your video, I wonder what tools the carpenter used to make this hardwood back then, you did a great job, you restored it well, restore this old building, it was very beautiful, thank you for sharing👍👍👍
Thank you, I am glad that you are always there, from the wood ax and the cave and other tools that are no more now. I'm trying to restore this house, but it costs a lot, I can't afford it...
Beautiful work as you repaired this ancient chest using age-old methods. Then right at the end, you used an electric saw that left burn marks on the ends of the lid. Wish you had left it alone. The overhang gave the piece character.
Thank you, my friend, you are right, it was extra work, the burn was due to the hardness of the wood, it didn't go away even with sandpaper, I didn't want to damage it more...
I stand amazed, both by the original workmanship and your restoration. Thank you for saving that beautiful piece of furniture. Five hundred years ago, my country didn't exist, but that incredible chest did.
Hello, my Canadian friend, I did this in the style of our ancestors, I want to say what no one said! I did not apply sesame oil inside the chest, there is a reason, this chest is a smart chest, if the parts of this chest loosen after a while, by splashing water inside it, the whole chest will be strengthened, I will give you a special piece of an ancient carpenter. I submitted, you will understand this issue by taking a close look at the structure of the parts of this chest...
This is the best and most fascinating restoration I've ever watched. Your patience, thoroughness, and faithfulness to the origin and history of this chest are beyond phenomenal. I've also just subscribed.
Your comment, dear friend, is full of energy and pride for me and I am glad that we were blessed with your company. I hope all of us who are interested can enjoy each other's experiences and skills together
Beautiful job. Thank you, (and good luck on the old house itself, stay safe under that old propped up roof! looking forward to see how you make it happen !) The old nails at least kept the piece in use and not ending up in the fireplace! Lovely to see it fixed and put back together as done by the first maker. if you can get ahold of one, a hypodermic needle/ syringe makes a great tool for getting glue into slim or tiny places a bit more easily. Just rinse them out immediately! You may find a specialty glue syringe at a big tool store, depending on your closeness to a big city. (or if it can be ordered online and delivered nearby to you) But a thin knife does work, and the thread/dental floss was a great idea to spread the glue. We save old toothbrushes to use for larger areas, lol . Old- fashioned hide glue I have seen used in restorations, as being almost identical to what would have been used originally long ago (if they were indeed gluing any areas at all !)
Thank you, my friend, for your meaningful comment, the reconstruction of this house is very expensive, we cannot afford it, but I will try my best. I am still thinking about the carpenter's masterpiece, special wood, special skill, special chest. (You must have noticed that I did not oil the inside of the chest, the reason is that our carpenter wets the curved parts of the chest by adding water, the curvature of the parts increases and the chest becomes stronger) About the syringe and the carpenter's knife, I will definitely get it. It was an old glue for this wood, it didn't work very well, but it was great with this glue. I didn't try the skin glue Thank you for your comments, guidance and support, have fun...
I can say, it took amazing courage to undertake this restoration!! Exceptional job, amazing courage in undertaking a 500 year old piece made of rare wood. Great job.

This is a joy to watch. Love the fast forward segments. You work so hard and carefully! Interesting cleaning solution. Kept wondering how it smelled. I clean my projects w a little dawn in warm water.
We are proud that the restoration of this ancient chest and our style and technique have attracted your attention. Regarding the last part of your question, I must say that there are many solutions for cleaning the surface of wood, such as our old compound or oxalic acid or even wood soap. It is your choice which way to choose based on your needs.
I have tried to prevent the destruction of my past and by using the skills and carpentry techniques of 500 years ago, I have done this reconstruction and I always try to be creative and even take advantage of the opinions of friends, but looking for content I am not a copy of others in any way. That's why my channel name is Creativeideasmaker. Thank you for your kindness
It's a lovely piece. Was it a grain chest? One suggestion.... since sesame oil is not a great long lasting finish, have you consider applying a high quality hard wax over the oil or other longer lasting finishing technique. It may be the sesame oil was commonly used on furniture when this piece was made, but a longer lasting finish will give it more protection.
If we wanted to renovate in today's style, yes, we could use very high quality coatings, but the important thing is about the wood you use. This type of wood was covered with this sesame oil in the past because of its penetration into the wood and because of the color and gloss it gives to the wood.
I genuinely enjoyed watching the video. Regardless of the article’s age, made, quality etc, I believe restoration alone is quite a tedious process and requires a lot of patience , focus and aptitude for the procedure. You have done an amazing job on the chest. I appreciate the fact that u did nt cut any corners during the process and cleaned every bit of the article. For me personally sanding the old piece is preferable as it takes out a layer of dirt, gunk, wood warm damage and nasty marks. Loved what you have done. Keep up the good work. PS. I found the coca cola part very funny. 😅
Thank you for your meaningful comment, I thank you for understanding and supporting us. This chest was very dirty and had burn marks, sanding (in this case) alone could not remove the dirt from this chest. Coca-Cola is great at cleaning...

I have watched hundreds and hundreds of restoration videos over the years and this is by far my favourite. From the tree, the history, the original workmanship and the cultural heritage of the piece. All the way to the loving and respectful way you restored it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all ❤✌️
I started my day with an unusual comment and I am happy that enthusiasts like you tell the value of our work after seeing old antique restorations. I'm so glad you enjoyed this video of making a chest. Thank you for your comment
This may be one if the only COMPLETE restorations i have seen. Very well done and I enjoyed the video. Thank you, ignore the negative comments and 'know-it-all' folks and enjoy a project well done😊
Wow, great comment!!! You made my day man, thank you. Negative comments and criticisms are a stepping stone for me and make me progress, and you can be sure that I will continue my work stronger than before, because first I believe in myself, and then I have good friends and enthusiasts like you by my side.
Now we know what it would have looked like in the late 1500’s!! Beautiful job!!! ❤
I think so too!
Разве этот сундук тех времён?
This fund is about five hundred years ago and this style of woodwork is from that era
My goal is to educate, preserve and maintain wooden and memorable furniture and also help the environment, of course, as much as I can.
This was one of the most incredible restorations I've ever seen. That chest may not be as old as the house it was in, but it has to be extremely ancient.
I am glad that I made you happy. Yes, you are exactly right. Thank you for your comment
wow, great work, excellent restoration, how beautiful this chest is, it's the first time I see such beautiful wood, the door of this old building is also made of this wood, you are the first to restore it on TH-cam with this age, thank you for sharing this video Attractive❤❤❤👍👏👍
Thank you for all your attention, yes, the door of this old building is made of the same wood...
That Sir was one of the best restoration videos I've seen on TH-cam, the homemade cleaning product was magical, as they say, you learn something new every day, excellent
Thank you for watching our chest restoration video
Thank you for your kind opinion...
This is such a joy to watch!! The work of love, patience and meticulousness!! Beautiful!!! Thank you very much for this jewel 💎
thanks, you are kind...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fabulous!
thank you...
Bravo !!
A special wood from a special tree, thank you my friend...
It's amazing to find a rare ancient piece of furniture. I am surprised at how old it is. Thank you for your time and incredible skill to carefully take apart and put it back together. I mean fixing all the issues that needed attention. May it be perserved for another five hundred years or more. 😊
We're glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your support of this remake video
This is so cool. I love old construction that didn't need metal fasteners to last forever
Thanks my friend, I'm glad you enjoyed the 500 year old chest restoration project, if you would like me to restore the pieces that are in that house...?
@@CreativeIdeasMaker everything please
@maureenheil5009 I try my best
Thank you. This was a trip to Italy for me. The tree, thst house, that chest, your work without words in sound, except for the birds and tools. Grazie. Multi bene.
Thank you for watching our chest restoration video...
This piece went from some thing No one would want in their house to a piece everyone would be proud to have in their home
That's exactly how I feel when I see him every day. Thank you for your company
What a phenominal job restoring this historic antique!! You did an amazing job!
Ive subscribed, I want to see more of your work!
Thank you, my friend, welcome to our channel, I hope to provide you with good videos...
Ну, ящику явно не 500 лет, потрепала его жизнь изрядно. Реставрация прекрасная. Интересные соединения деталей, без единого гвоздя.
I told the age of this chest, with the available documents, it is impossible to determine the age of the wood by eye, thank you for the comment...
Breathtaking! Especially knowing the age of the piece! ❤
Thank you for the interesting comment and watching this restoration video
Very satisfying to watch. I had my doubts, but now I'm a believer.
I am glad that this restoration of the old chest has satisfied your friends and enthusiasts.
Shouldn't be using "wire wool" when cleaning wood. Small bits can remain, which may rust.
New England folk info includes the vinegar/baking soda trick with a comment that the effervescence works to lift dirt. The Coca Cola additive is also folk based after WWii, when experiential learning showed that it would lift the finish off of most anything.
As loung as the person is happy with what he or she as workt on i dont see a problum it looks amazing job to me👍😁
@@CreativeIdeasMaker I'm no chemist but since baking soda is basic and vinegar is acidic, I would guess you'd have the same problem of them neutralizing each other and becoming useless.
Glad you enjoyed watching this video. I think you understand the importance of this age very well
And which country are you from, dear friend?

It must be a joy to be able to restore such an unique piece.
Really enjoyable...
I restore, you enjoy...
I enjoyed the 'deconstruction' and reconstruction! I have never seen sesame oil being used and the finish is beautiful. Love from Nova Scotia, Canada
Thank you, (and good luck on the old house itself, stay safe under that old propped up roof! looking forward to see how you make it happen !)
The old nails at least kept the piece in use and not ending up in the fireplace!
(or if it can be ordered online and delivered nearby to you)
But a thin knife does work, and the thread/dental floss was a great idea to spread the glue.
(You must have noticed that I did not oil the inside of the chest, the reason is that our carpenter wets the curved parts of the chest by adding water, the curvature of the parts increases and the chest becomes stronger)
About the syringe and the carpenter's knife, I will definitely get it.
It was an old glue for this wood, it didn't work very well, but it was great with this glue. I didn't try the skin glue
Thank you for your comments, guidance and support, have fun...
What a fabulous piece. So interesting to watch this. That sawdust and glue truck gets me every time!!
This sanding machine sometimes breaks down to give me variety and I like it because it tells me to work less than I do :)
I can say, it took amazing courage to undertake this restoration!! Exceptional job, amazing courage in undertaking a 500 year old piece made of rare wood. Great job.
Thank you for all your compliments and I am proud that good friends like you have relieved me of the fatigue of this heavy project of rebuilding the reconstruction fund. really thank you
What an ingenious design and construction. So fascinating . I would never have believed this level of intelligence and craftsmanship has gone to make a simple chest. I feel dizzy still. Thanks for sharing
The thing that we have forgotten about our ancestors is that they had their civilization and advanced technologies in their era and we only see them in a more modern form. I'm glad you enjoyed watching this ancient chest restoration video
What a lovely old rustic place. My kind of heaven ❤
It is exactly the same and this house is very old. Thank you for your wonderful comment

Wonderful work and skills to watch, I think you’re very brave taking such a rare treasure to pieces..but it turned out stunning.
Unfortunately, the material of this cabinet is made of chipboard and you cannot pay much on it, you will realize this when you encounter it.

Красивая работа, бережное отношение к дереву👌
Thank you for your comment, my friend
So totally pretty as i ever seen.
I'm glad that you like the chest restoration video...
Hi guys you are really professional restoration high quality 100 % great job

Oh my what a beautiful piece ❤️
It really is...
