Just Mick Lynch terrorising Tory MPs and dismantling the anti-strike bill in a Select Committee

  • Somebody thought it would be a good idea for Tories on the Transport Select Committee to ask Mick Lynch what he thinks of their plans to limit the right to strike.
    Not sure any of the Tories in the room thought it was a good idea.

    Privatisation was always a con. We're spending as a country more in subsidies to rail firms in the 2020s than we ever did when it was British Rail and we've, arguably, got a more expensive service and in recent times a much worse one.

    • @MaxMisterC
      @MaxMisterC ปีที่แล้ว

      Well yeh, of course it's MORE expensive now than then!! 👍🏾
      Now, we've also gotta carry the weight of paying off, the Billionaire class, who are now sitting on top of the corrupt political class & the management/administration class...

    • @grahamfigg5817

      It's worse than that. Most experts reckon we're spending four times in real terms what we spent on the railways pre privatisation.

    Fact: Tories have spent more money (by funnelling tens of millions of pounds of taxpayers' money to private train operators for every day there was a strike) than it would have taken if they met the strikers' demands. Which goes on to show, dragging this process along was always a political choice, and not an economic one. Same can be said of the way they're not even negotiating with junior doctors. They simple don't care if patients come to harm or doctors leave the profession or move to other countries.

    • @headgirlblues
      @headgirlblues ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Absolutely. After years of watching where money flows and under what conditions, a conclusion might be reached that a wrecked country is simply easier to loot. close the place down"? and the place is now Meadowhall Shopping Center ?. I used to be in the RMT and I have to say we wouldn't be in the race to the bottom if more Unions were like the RMT.
    I'll say something else that would have The Daily Mail and the less than average Tory MP spitting in their Tea and calling me an enemy of the Nation or whatever; Banning Industrial action NEVER stopped Industrial action. It actually makes it more likely, less predictable and potentially more damaging and even violent to have legislation that denies the right to withdraw Labour. As Mick Lynch suggested in this committee, people can get very creative when faced with legal obstacles to Industrial action.

    Tory anti strike laws should be reversed if Labour forms a government but it will not happen, of course. Just like Blair did not reverse them 1997- 2010. Weak unions are key to the neoliberal project precisely to keep wages down so the rich can prosper at the expense of the workers. Yet even if they were reversed in some parallel universe there is so little solidarity in many sectors of the UK economy and many unions are so poorly led that it would be unlikely to make much difference to wages and conditions of service.

    • @secondtimearound2539
      @secondtimearound2539 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      80s Music; It's more concerning that there is little solidarity between people (except for our 'betters' ofc). Instead there is more division than ever and it works, just how the Tories and the rest of the Establishment have manipulated it - for centuries, not just the past 44 years. Only people, en masse, can make a difference by standing up for each other so, probably won't happen in my lifetime but that's no excuse not to try and keep trying.

    • @eightiesmusic1984
      @eightiesmusic1984 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@secondtimearound2539 I have believed in solidarity for most of my 53 years but I see no point any more in that it is like pushing water uphill and those that the left wants to help often do not want that support, instead choosing to believe the lies and propaganda of the right via (anti) social media and the right wing press. The problems do go beyond the last forty three years without doubt but the pernicious effects of neoliberalism as a tool to widen and entrench inequality in the interests of the rich are the result of a systematic policy that is an ideological crusade to wipe out any alternative political positions that do not accord with its precepts. Plurality of thought is the enemy of neoliberalism- it is just as dogmatic as adherence to communism was in the twentieth century. The workers have been sold out by the Labour Party, most of the unions and each other. Thatcher converted Labour to neoliberalism and described 'new' Labour as her greatest achievement. We are living in the dystopian future the left predicted in the 1980s- the tragedy is that she was right in her claim about Labour.
