I'm a software engineer. I know quite a lot about hardware engineering as well since, obviously, a lot of that bleeds over into what I need to know to do my job. You know how many fucks I give about specs when I want to play a game? None. I care about the quality of the game. I couldn't care less if the foliage is a little more crisp and the shaders handle lighting that little bit more realistically. How about we go back to the days where all of this bullshit was irrelevant and the games were the main attraction?

As a part of the pcmr, an rx 480 can can do 4k on like medium settings with no filters or anything. But still.... I'd rather have 1080 on high settings tho..

pretty sure textures are stored in vram not ram. i believe ram is for maps and geometry, so the xbox will be really good for those huge games like no man sky, rim-world and total war. oh wait they don't have those sort of games.
Developers and Digital Foundry are saying the APU is performing equivalent to a GTX 1070 not a 480, of course we would need to see direct comparisons, but that kind of hardware could really be a steal.
In that case DF is full of it. It's specs are lower than a gtx 1070, with the exception of VRAM. The GPU uses Polaris not Pascal, so it's even at a bigger disadvantage. It's basically a FX 480 spec-wise.
I would say probably and overclocked rx 480 or a 580 is more probable, if AMD had better tech than that it would've been released before the 10 series came out. Also DF saying that it is comparable to a 1070 in performance on a free forza game is really just showing that it wasn't optimized for the 10 series cards. That's why when the console is released and both are running DX12 on many games we can see a true comparison. I have trouble believing that AMD had a 1070 beater years ago that Microsoft put in a box,
Amd can barely beat a shitty founders edition type of a gtx1070 with the vega 56 with as much power consumption that would make the xbox's 200-somewhat Watt PSU go up in flames in seconds. Not to mention the vega cards' price... How could the xbox be even in par with any of these high end pascal cards? It has a previous gen budget amd card integrated into an APU with an obsolete CPU.

ya the 1st Scorpio that comes out will be a lot like the current xbox 1 x, then a year or 2 after they will come out with the next console thats actual a step up, the thing they are missing is they could have given console users the Scoripio, but they decided to make the xbox 1 and 3 versions of it without telling everyone there will be more advanced models, so basically if the 1st Scorpio comes out you dont wanna buy it if you have an xbox 1 x cuz it will be the same, wait till the 2nd or 3rd Scorpio comes out and it will be a little better, if you wanna get consoles thats fine just know what your doing before you start talking lol
I care not for consoles, I gave both to my son after maybe a month I just could not deal with dodgy frame rates and 900p or 720p resolution. The new consoles hopefully will hamstring PC gaming less than it does now.

You mean Like... it runs a modified rx480. When it's a system on a chip with different memory, band with, different number of compute units and number of ROPs. Yeah in any GPU world that's a different GPU.

As a long time console user and recent PC person, this really perplexes me, some of the best games I have ever played could barely manage 30fps, but that's neither here nor there for me.
It's all about the games, keep me coming back with unique games, and I will buy them, it's not too hard to comprehend...
But yeah, the whole Scorpio/ X reveal was MS jerking it too specs which is frankly embaressing, and I say the same thing about their (somewhat better) E3, with their whole XCloud and such.

12 gigs doesn't matter if the clock rate is piss poor. If it can't process all the data that it can handle at a good speed than it's bottlenecking itself. Probably a reason they never mention the clock rate.
You make a good point in clock speeds. Could anyone tell me why these things are running at 2.3Ghz? I was using a 3Ghz CPU in 2010, and it wasn't top of the line then either. It's like this multi core-mania is selling us cheaper to make CPU's at higher prices. Yes, I know they are more complex due to their multi-core architechure, but come on, we should'nt have ever gone backwards on clock speeds.

But your point still stands, I have no clue why clock speeds haven't improved but have instead gone in reverse. I've got a 3.2GHz octo core, and versions of the I7 and I9 are just a regular quad core with a 3.4 clock rate. Shouldn't those numbers keep going up,m

The xbox would cost a few hundred more; Off the shelf, it would undercut a comperable PC by a small margin most likely. As MS loves to do that to their competitors. That's how they got into the Sever software market, Console market, business productivity software market, I could go on. There is no magic in MS products that will make them truely superior to anything else, at its pricepoint.

Haven't upgraded since I dropped a GPU in an off-the-shelf desktop for $600+$275. Never looked back.
CPU is the REASON that almost NO GAME will run at 60 FPS! Those AWFUL AMD Jaguar CPU cores are INCAPABLE of feeding a GPU draw calls at 60 FPS on anything that has ANY amount of PHYSICS!
PlayStation is for me I grew up with and it hasn’t let me down

120-144FPS does make you a better gamer, 4K possibly makes you a worse one since the detail will cheat you out of the realization of what the hitboxes actually are.
The fact that Microsoft has done next to nothing amazing, with Tenchu or Fable, tells you everything you need to know about Xbox. Gundam like Vulkan, DX12 improves the performance of AMD cards the most it's just weird that AMD hardware is futureproof since it performs well on modern better optimized APIs but NVIDIA cards seem to struggle and even loose fps. I'm pretty sure that Volta will solve this problem because it looks like NVIDIA actually spent time developing this architecture and not just copy Maxwell changing it slightly and clocking it higher. Btw will you make a video about the all-new NVIDIA Titan Xp?

I don't wanna pull the PCMasterRace card, but it sucks to be a console gamer with how low powered these machines are. Maybe they could make enthusiast grade consoles for like $1500? Maybe we can get better looking games in the future instead of these peasants holding us back. Sell regular XBOX/PS for their normal price and make an enthusiast grade one.
