"If you take a step back and look at the data, an hour of video game content is still one of the cheapest forms...."
This tells you a lot about their mindset. They think you should be paying each and every moment you are gaming. You don't buy a game and then enjoy it. You "rent" or "lease" your fun by the hour. Just like data minutes, old phone rates, old AOL online minutes, etc. All their game design uses this as the foundation, before a single line of code is written.

Yep, and I don't think video games are too cheap per hour. Other entertainment is getting more expensive per hour. Movies are insanely expensive now, like 15 bucks a ticket and if you want snacks they cost 8x more than the snacks you're gonna enjoy while playing a game

Actually, as a gamer that is also literate (and good with maths) I have one thing to say to this analyst: YOUR. NUMBERS. ARE. OBJECTIVELY. DEMONSTRABLY. WRONG. And here's how!
-Your game costs 60 bucks. Your game's single player lasts a sum total of 4-f*cking-hours (depending on skill even less in fact)
-If you do the math. That is, in fact, 15 bucks a fucking hour. Which heavily, HEAVILY outweights your... What was it? 40 CENTS per hour? I mean. You've made a small mistake of... 97.3%... Ok.
Oh, oh, but of course, OF COURSE, how could I forget about the multiplayer. Ok, I'm actually only interested in single player, but the average gamer is a multiplayer console gamer, and analytics should be about trends, not outliers, so let's get scientific here:
-First off, add 20-fucking bucks right off the bat. Because multiplayer content is locked behind the deluxe edition, which costs 80 bucks entrance.
-Then we get the DL-fucking-C. Now this is the hardest part to pin down in fact. But don’t worry, I got you covered. While the number and price of DLCs varies WILDLY I’ll just make this easy by using YOUR charts. And according to 2010’s reports, 20% of the money generated by videogames was by DLCs. Since that didn’t take into account the next figures and microtransactions weren’t really a thing back then, this only really applies to the prior figure, so what we’ll do is simply add 20% to our previous number and add this percentage. Funnily enough if 80 euros is 80%, 20% is 20 euros, so 100 bucks total it is for game plus DLC. We’ll ignore season passes because they tend to be 20 bucks and include most dlc without microtransactions, so it’d be more or less the same.
-Then it is the microtransaction’s time. You’ve kept their average cost hidden as fuck, so I can’t actually find anything substantial about that. BUT YOU just gave me a number and I’m really thankful for that, so since this is the number YOU use, we’ll use 20 bucks. I certainly wouldn’t waste 20 bucks a month but hey, if that’s what you’d do… What the fuck.
-But now you gotta add to that the 7 euros a month (8 on summer months) ps-flippin-4 plus takes. BECAUSE YOU NEED THAT FOR MULTIPLAYER. I’m excluding PC players because as you oh so pertinently protested before, analysts are all about AVERAGES not outliers, and I excluded XBOX because for some retarded fucking reason the web oonly shows the offers for the first month but never actually tells me the price for the rests of months. Btw, classy, microsoft, classy. So since this is about averages we’ll exclude both the offers for first-month-only and the extra for summertime, you’re welcome since that actually fucking helps you. 7 bucks a month it is!
-Finally, we get real: THE PRICE OF THE CONSOLE. One thing that you… “forgot” to mention, is that the cinema, series, etc. DON’T. NEED. A. CONSOLE. At best you’ll need a TV, but you need that for gaming too, so we’ll brush it off. So:
    a) Right now, using PS4 as a base (and from what I heard the XBONE costed even MORE on launch so you don’t wanna bring THEM here) on launch that was about 400 euros.
    b) But how many months is that? Well using ONLY playstation and xbox consoles (and you don’t want me to bring the rest, their cycles were on average even WORSE.) you get an average of 6.2 years or a little over 74 months. Actually taking into account how much of a shitshow this gen has been and the heavy push towards artifical obsolescence we should cut that number in half, but I won’t, because I’m actually being fuking GENEROUS towards you with this numbers. Take that into account… So we divide price by cycle and we get a little more than 5 bucks. We’ll say 5 bucks a month for ease. And because again, I’m a generous fucking guy.
Now, how many months does the average gamer play? Well. If we count YOUR audience, of little CoD addicted kids with negligent parents that use gaming to put their face into a screen so they’d just shut up already because they have raised an insuferable brat and don’t know how to deal with that… That’s about a year. So 12 months. Or in other words, until-the-next-CoD-comes-out.
How much time do they expend? You have oh-so-generously given us a figure of… 2 and a half hours a day?! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?! Hours per month are hard to establish but if we go to Steam Spy, which is about the only site that gives us reliable figures for that, we get that the TOP BY PLAYTIME (PUBG) is 29:40 hours in two weeks, or about 2 hours a day. And the number two (dota2) is 18:05 hours in two weeks, or about 1.2 hours. AND THAT’S THE VERY TOP MOST HOURS BY TWO WEEKS. I will be bleepin’ GENEROUS here and give you a whole 1.5 a day, MORE THAN FUCKING DOTA2! Which I find EXHILARATING to be honest. But why the fuck not! Let's suppose that somehow you got people to spend an hour and a half playing your game, every day for a fucking YEAR, no vacations, no rest, no nothing. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. GRINDING.
    So, we have:
    Time: 1.5h*365d=547.5hours
    Price: 100+(20+7+5)*12m=484$=48400cents
TOTAL: more than 88 f*cking cents an hour. Which puts online gaming objectively over EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. MEDIA. Other than theater and cinema. EVERYTHING. THIS is why you suck. It's not that you're an analyst. Oh no. It'd be fine for you to go and say "but the charts" at every chance. IF YOUR CHART WAS RIGHT! But it's not. You've intentionally crooked it. Because you have fucking shares on EA you piece of shit.
And this @It'sAGundam is how you own a fucking analyst. *micdrop.*

The good thing is that at the moment, the analyst's opinion doesn't matter. It has been out-shouted by the justified outrage. Apparently, he wasn't aware that public relations do matter and the actual gamers have a say in the outcome. I have an idea the corporate side still doesn't believe this was anything but a vocal-minority speedbump.

Said this before and I'll say it again...who the fuck needs EA's Battlefront 2. The REAL BF2 is still alive and running, and there are plenty of mods to make it a bit more graphically up to date for those who prefer that.
Leave EA to their flashy, overpriced, fan-fiction of a Star Wars game. I'll be over here enjoying the classics like Jedi Academy, BF2, and KOTOR. If I need new content, there are good modders I'm happy to donate to, far before I ever pay a cent of my cash over to this corporate bullshit.
If more people went for the classics, which are not even that outdated at this point, over these AAA cash-grabs, we may have more of a hit on where companies like EA, Bethesda, and Activision, feel it the most. Their earnings. Play the older titles with mods for a while, stay away from pre-orders and launch titles, and see the industry begin to change a bit to follow suit to the consumer, rather than the consumer having to adapt to the piece of shit industry gaming has become.
Side note about gaming being the purest art form: I agree, and disagree. Writing is / was the purest (depending on how much of a prude you want to be about it) art form, at least when it comes to being a first. It was passive to a degree, but made you use your imagination and personal interactions to fill in visual and auditory gaps, as well as teach you about different perceptions on a far deeper level than movies or games could. As of today, gaming has done what reading/writing has been able to, by a hundred-fold. At least, it has to the potential to. It's a shame that it's never fully utilized.
With that, I bid good day with this ramble. Not likely going to be read anyways.

I just glitched the boxes in the height of its exploit buying shit? Nope. Never modded the fuck out of it on the 360 too. Ah good times. I didn't get banned either. And yes ME3 did have micro transactions. However this was during the infancy of the business model. So what they did was gave you the option they didn't make it to where you suffered gameplay wise if you didn't. See they've been conditioning people the same way the elite do on a global scale introducing policy instead of law at a slow rate changing the field into their favor. EA Activision ect are not stupid they're indeed cunning greedy and probably eat babies or something lmao. Seriously though... I'm glad they're meeting so much resistance.... Change in favor the playing field for the people is good anywhere imo

11:20 10% price drop from a stock is really bad actually even if it was just like 3 dollars lost because you have to take into consideration that that drop is per share owned. these stockholders tend to buy large amounts of shares so losing 3 dollars per share can really add up fast, but yeah anyways EA totally deserves all of the shit they're getting from gamers and shareholders.

Federal Communications Commission Finally Moving In To Wipe Out Net Neutrality
      archive.is/rLFTz
      Recode.net
FFC chairman and poo-in-the-loo, Ajit Pai, aims to eliminate much of the FCC's own role in ensuring that broadband providers don’t block, slow down or otherwise interfere with web traffic.
To that end, Pai’s new plan would no long consider telecom giants akin to utilities, a classification under law known as Title 2. It’s a move that is likely to have a cascading effect: It means the FCC cannot - and likely will not, under Pai - outright prohibit practices like paid prioritization.

As someone who is currently playing on PS4 (for now) I am here to say to you: you are absolutely right! I have been watching you for a time, and time and time again, you speak the truth, where other say: “it’s just your opinion, hur dur…”
The current state of affairs pleases me very much: EA getting shafted, other greedy companies will most likely be in the sights of legislations from not only European countries, but also the prime market of video games: the United States (I have also heard that Australia as joined the party on going after greedy tactics for marketing game content or etc…), EA looking like they will lose their licenses to Star War’s related products. The consumer seems to be waking up to the problems of the industry, shamefully late, because the “sheeple” that “support/adore” these corporate fucker’s still defend them, and then you have the out of touch, 2 piece suit wearing, fucking idiots in wall street saying: “No! No! You are fortunate! You should be paying more!” Yes, because I’m going to pay for a product which the core-game was built around a system to mainly fuck the consumer. Keep up the fight, Gundam! Keep telling the world, and one by one, the dominos will fall, and these corporate scumbags will see their greedy ways crumble before the power of the consumer!
(P.S: I say “playing on PS4”, has for the moment I have no way to moving to PC, but don’t worry. Real soon, I’m jumping ship, as soon as I can guarantee that I’m not eating only bread and water for a month, so I can go to a platform where the costumer can and does much more effectively vote against this half-assed AAA “Masterpieces” (more like, “MasterShit” if the current state of affairs sheds light on something’s) and generally greedy practices (you know: Sony’s “Pay me 60-70 dollar’s to access online features, because I’m a “poor” company.)

Man, I recognize this same sentiment over immersion dying for the sake of all forms of monetization, whether it's converting games into free-to-play, paywalled, psychologically manipulative experiments, or accessibility-packed experiences made to rope in as many people as possible, dumbing down all enjoyments of meaningful choices, good stories, fun and innovative combat, e.t.c. Cyberpunk 2077 was a good looking game, with great cinematic storytelling, but it's the very same symptom that has diluted the RPG genre into being a marvel-esque railroad that is easy and digestable to the masses, streamlined in such a way that you don't have to do anything, just sit back and watch the story unfold, devoid of player input or meaningful choices, no branching paths to combat, career or the like.
It has its moments, but it's no Morrowind, Fallout New Vegas, or any of the other thought provoking, rich, true open-world games I came to love when I was younger, where immersion, discoverability, challenge, branching stories, and adventure was the whole point. It feels like it's become a Michael Bay movie jiggling keys infront of your face as to not get you distracted, daring to look for something better. I miss the days when design was on everyones mind, rather than this bloated corporate slide-show. When the whole selling point was to make a good game, and nothing else.

Of course Congressmen don't read the laws they're voting on; that would take away from their fundraising time. Lawmaking is about winning concessions (fundraising), not about actual, y'know, public welfare. And no, I am not being sarcastic.
Why? Because like AAA publishers like EA, they see people as a commodity to be managed. Money goes into the PR/marketing machine, the flacks grind the organ, the people dance. It just works.

Arcades needed it, because of the continual overhead cost, of facility, machine maintenance, etc. It falls apart when talking about entertainment you buy, to enjoy at home. If milton Bradley or parker brothers said, "you bought our board game, but have owned it for ten years and got massive family entertainment out of it. Isn't this worth 50c for each hour of fun? No? Well you merely bought a liscense to play it. We will take it back." Let that sink in

EA is a publicly traded company. 10% of those lossed shares could be gamers. They probably are from people that DO follow gamer culture.
A lot of investors are sheep though. If they see others getting out, on top of multiple flops of games, there's potential for them to get out too following like lemmings. Not sure why they are leaving, but they see "the signs", thus further hurting EA

Gamers who don't invest don't understand how gigantic it is to lose that much. First you have to understand that the market in general is expected to go up about 8% on average. Investors expect even more. To not only not hit that average, but actually start draining money is not something anyone who is in any position except buy-and-hold and straight up shorting EA (which would make no sense with BF2 coming up before the shit hit the fan) wants to see, and when they see their money going down they follow suit before it gets any worse. This really, REALLY hurt EA in a legitimately big way that they have never been hurt before. They are a video game publisher, fundamentally a cyclical company, completely getting its stock nuked... around Holiday season?

By the time Gaming becomes fully contaminated with Microtransactions with every game becoming a Always Online Only Gambling Distribution Service where every AAA developer fully kills off the Single Player will be the day I will fully retire from Gaming. Considering that I started Gaming on the NES and Sega Master System at 3 Years Old and now nearly pushing 30 and has seen each Console Generation from then up to now and without a doubt the Best times to be alive is with the PS2,Gamecube and XBOX days. Every Game back then was shipped in a Complete state and the concept of Polished Games was absolute and you knew you were getting a superior product but as of from now the term "Polished Games" doesn't mean anything today with games being shipped out riddled with Game Breaking bugs and glitches that destroys the overall core experience and these Microtransactions are simply the worst part of Modern Gaming. Funny thing to note while everyone is giving their life savings away to greedy assholes in suits to earn a Lootbox I still have practically all of my games that I can go back to when ever I want and since the future Multiplayer Only games's servers gets shut down all that remains is a cup coaster which can never be played again like for example the PS3 game MAG and these Multi Million Dollar Companies like EA and Activision would have gouged you all out of your money and they will without hesitation shut down the Online services for your favourite Multiplayer Only games. While I am still playing Single Player games from the Past most people would dream to have the servers brought back Online only for them to realise that they've been scammed.
This is the path that Gaming is going in and I don't want no part in it.

  • @mrdoolio
    @mrdoolio 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, the thing with raising prices is true. Having worked in the industry I have to say that many salaries are frozen for years, while expenses grow. That said, that has nothing to do with lootboxes and microtransactions. But, there's another side to that. If publishers started charging, say, 100 bucks for games instead of 60, would the players be like "ah ok, it's an inflation thing" or they would be outraged. I think this whole scummy thing was enabled by the audience, to put it that way. Because it's easier to implement seemingly non-disruptive microtransactions. I mean, I have even seen people defend dlc when it started as a practice, by saying it's better than an expansion because "you get to choose what content you are interested in".

    • @mrdoolio
      @mrdoolio 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Also, people have kneejerk reactions that lead to their doom, basically. And by that I don't mean the outrage about EA, that outrage is perfectly justified. I mean, POSITIVE kneejerk reactions that enable these practices. I have been so frustrated when I was going around screaming about EA's greed back in like '98. after seeing what the practice will be with their games and everyone else was mesmerized by their games' production qualities and labeled me as this crazy doomsayer. I was against Bethesda becoming a completely unstoppable corporate turd, but no, people were lapping up Morrowind because it was a good game overall, despite completely lazy mechanics which were foreshadowing the approach bethesda will have when making games.
We see the same thing now with cd project red, who is corporate as fuck for several years now, yet people praise them for (indefinitely delayed) witcher titles, which were basically made through slave work. And now they say "cyberpunk will have no microtransactions" and everyone sucks their dick, because that's the most popular, calculated thing they could have said. It's so transparent. But people enable these companies and practices all the time. And I am not even talking about the "casual crowd", the "ignorant". No, I am talking about people who are subscribed to like twenty channels like this one.

I'll never understand how they keep comparing games to movie/tv genres. Those are two vastly different mediums, but even if you were to compare, the first thing you cannot do is put grind as a value, nor replay value as that is down to the will of the person.
However let me bite this. So no one game is like another in terms of length, nor is a movie in terms of run time. So I can easily use this:
Game of Thrones Season 7 box set £25. 10 hours worth of episodes.
The Order 1886 which cost £40 on ps4 (release). Roughly 7-8 hours worth of gameplay including extra.
So therefore by my analysis here at crapola inc DVD box sets are much more value for money than games. See how easy it is?

  • @ShawnBaxe

The money I saved by not purchasing BF2, I'm probably gonna spend on Elex. Piranha Bytes created Elex - you pay €50 for a full experience and you get a full experience. No micro-transactions and they even announced there won't be DLC and therefore no season pass crap. Good ol' classic "you pay once, and get a complete game with no strings attached".
EA and TakeTwo can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. I'm so fed up with these fuckin' predatory and unfair practices by AAA corporations. Party is over - they can keep all their fucking cash, but I won't give them any more! No matter what games they throw at us. I usually get every new WWE game. Now with TakeTwo announcing from 2018 on they will not release any games without micro-transactions, I won't even get those games anymore - no matter how much I enjoyed them in the past. WWE 2K18 is the final WWE 2K game I got as it stands. Red Dead Redemption2? Nope...they can stuff it up their butts. Rant over!

I own a PS4 and yet acknowledge the superiority of the PC in every way.
Upgradable hardware, free online gaming, modding, Indy gaming...
I would sell my PS4 to buy a better graphics card if my GF didn't play GTA V with me.
I conclude: consoles are inferior, and generally you can sell a brick to the "consul mashterz" for $400 and still convince them they won a fucking bargain.

"Gaming is one of the cheapest forms of entertainment... When compared to movies..."
Right now gaming is one of the few hobbies I can afford. Gaming costs me 0.1€/h in electricity and that's pretty much it. I can throw in an additional 10 - 15€ every month if I want a new game, but that's not always an option. Going to the movies would cost me a minimum of 3€/h with the additional costs taking it potentially as high as 10€/h (transportation, drinks, snacks). I do pay for netflix, which is 7€ per month if I remember correctly. I use it as replacement TV, movies etc. I imagine the cost of Netflix would average around the same as gaming for me.
These people think everyone who plays games makes 3000€ a month and can easily spend 10% of that on gaming.

This is why I think video game companies should not be corporations they should be so funded and they should have responsibility for what they make so they don't have to answer to shareholders but the gamers the customers themselves. It's possible to have a video game company that isn't publicly traded on the stock market. If every AAA company wasn't funded by stockholders that would mean that have to lower the budgets to all their games which means 60 bucks would make them a prophet without having to overcharge with microtransactions or DLC and it's their fault when their 100 million dollar game flops it's not the customer's fault it's the company's fault for not promoting it. I really think the standard price for video games should be 70 bucks or better yet 75 bucks nothing higher than that games that I would have paid higher just because the game was awesome Dark Souls 3 that game was well worth more than 60 bucks on release Skyrim would have paid more. Bloodborne I'm absolutely satisfied I bought the expansion pack to it which was 20 bucks along with that 60 make a great game first then release of expansion 6 months down the road that actually adds more value to the game. And what's the difference between Dark Souls 3 and blood-borne in OverWatch Dark Souls 3 and blood-borne have no microtransactions or loot boxes as you call them.
