what’s interesting is that, going into the game having no knowledge whatsoever of the community’s opinion, you’ll still find a rather incredible racing game, it just never lived up to the standards it’s predecessor left for it.
Only played FM2 before this one after I got a second hand XOne with a bunch of games in it, and honestly my experience was fantastic. Now have tried FM4 after 6 years... it's considerably better in content, but I love FM5 still. It's somewhat underrated imo.
This game was the perfect advert for where many AAA games would go from that generation onwards, graphics + technical stuff get all the priority while the actual most important thing in any game (content) is little more than an afterthought. It's not a bad game but the easiest way to sum it up is with a question.... Is FM5 how you would imagine the masterpiece of FM4 plus next gen technology turning out? I think we all know the answer to that, and in my opinion that applies to all 3 Xbox One era FM's.
I had less of a problem with the lower car count than I did with the new lame career system. I half excused 5 for being a quick launch title and redesign of all the cars and tracks, but 6 and 7 did the same thing and both still suck. Now Forza 8 has been in development for years, it's been delayed, the new console has been out for a while, and the graphical fidelity of the past 3 games were good enough that 8 is going to get massive backlash if they do the same shit again.
I definitely expected better from FM5 but honestly, it's far from a REALLY bad racing game, imo. You can say that the FM series took steps further and experimented more (sometimes it was good, other times not as great) until FM4 (which is probably [one of, if not] the best racing game imo). However, FM5 was when the series downgraded over time and i really hope FM8 brings back the series and doesn't deteriorate further from ingame content.
@@Vulc4nium yeah. When it comes to these games people act like a game not as good as its similars automatically makes it terrible, which isnt really true imho
@@JZStudiosonline ikr. forza 6 and 7 even nerfed the AI so much in order to fit 24 cars in the grid. it's absolutely unfun to drive against the AI, and if you try a private lobby with a friend, the AI breaks so bad in FM6 that you can't have a regular race with them. in fm7 they just straight up made it not possible to play with AI in a lobby, which killed the game to me. now fm8 seems to be headed the same direction. all we know about it so far is "ooooooo shiny graphics", and "look we're virtue signalling!" (not that i'm against accessibility options, but that is not something you should focus your marketing, specially before saying anything at all about the game itself). it's probably going to suck, too. they have their heads too far up their arses to realize people want a good game, not a good-looking game. forza peaked at fm4 + fh1 (even though my favorite horizon is fh3)
lol true, ive always been a playstation guy so i was really excited to try this out in a store too, i liked it tbh, but i wouldnt trade my gran turismo for it haha.
Forza Motorsport 5 had some really good force feedback on a wheel and even had torque steer on fwd cars. Don't understand why they took that out with 6 and 7
@@purwantiallan5089 doubt it, they kept emphasizing dynamic lighting this, ray tracing that, graphical fidelity and hardly anything about the game content itself
This was one of the first few games I ever played after getting Xbox One, and I freakin loved it. I loved the racing model, the tuning options, the tracks. As Top Gear fan, the narration from Clarkson, Hammond and May was brilliant, I loved how Clarkson would describe a new car I bought or won. There was nothing I didn't like. Honestly, if I ever go back to Xbox, this is the Forza Motorsport I'm gonna go back to.
i remember being slightly disappointed with the size of the game. besides that tho i just remember thinking this is not quite f4 with better graphics which is all all of us wanted really
Something worth considering is that you're playing the most recent patch of the game, not the broken mess it launched as. No private multiplayer lobbies, replays not working etc.
Forza 5 honestly has some of the best music in the entire series IMO, especially the menu version of Sterling Fisher, my favourite song in the whole game.
@@117johnpar I mean, look at FM7, nothing but generic American backcountry songs in the menus. That game got far too Americanised as a whole for my liking
I thought Forza horizon 4 had much better music. FH5’s music is annoying and repetitive. I was so glad when they added the FH4 tracks to the game from the seasonal rewards!
Imagine buying a so called Sim racing game for 80€. Unable to play decent on a sim rig. But loving it for the good music. The next FM will be the best most realistic sim racing game ever but they only brag about how good the graphics will be and that it will be developed for blind people. Forgetting the basics of a game. Sound amazing for 1% of the population. It's getting to rediculous. And people are still defending this. It's only getting worse.
There is no upgrade requirements, theres just PI class limits, like all the other Froza games except 7. You can remove the upgrades the game adds to get it to the top of the PI for that series and add your own if you want. Nothing was taken away, just autospeced because you literally just chose a car in order to enter that specific series
The biggest gripe I had about Forza 5 was the weird handling model that took a while to get used to, and not being able to sell owned cars (I was poor with money in Forza, still am. So I liked to build cars and just sell them off when I was running low on money). Other than that though FM5 I felt was pretty good
I recently managed to somehow get a xbox key for this game online and i have pretty much played all the motorsport games and i think its pretty decent fun. Compared to FM7 I have liked how cars feel in this game more then they did in 7
That's the exact reason why I don't enjoy motorsport 7 because of the games handling. My biggest gripe with the handling is that most rear-engine vehicles for some reason, handle like complete shit and are not fun to use. I don't even understand why this is a problem because I believe motorsport 6 didn't have this issue.
I’ve seen a lot of videos of people talking about how disappointed they were back when FM5 came out for the lack of Porsche and slower cars, but I always saw this game as the spiritual and Xbox One flagship title as PGR3 was to the 360. That game also lacked a big car list, but I really appreciated the cars in that game that I’ve never seen in others. For $60, I can see it as disappointing, but for $20, 10 years later, it’s still a great game.
To me, what this game has over Forza 7 is that it has way better soundtrack, more personality, and way better car sounds, even when you upgrade the exhausts you can hear the sound of the car become louder, try the M3 E46 with stock and then race exhaust. What I really hated about FM5 is how lackluster it was, to me it felt like the game was rushed and resulted in it just being a graphics showcase for the Xbox One, so many stuff taken off FM4...the custom forza lobbies...the community features that brought the community, and also the DLCs (which was mostly cars that were already present on FM4 but were brought back as DLC again, such as the Ferrari FF), the game had a lot less tracks than fm4 too (at launch this game didn't even have the Nurburgring Nordschleife but was later brought back as DLC around FH2's release), one thing I also hated was how close the chase cam was even when you put it on chase far it doesn't look that great. Regarding the multiplayer, A lot of the community hated it as well because of how lackluster it was, they introduced the hoppers system where it was like a class of specific themed cars, it didn't have the freedom that fm4 had where you could setup your own lobby with ur own rules and make it public (which is what is called custom forza lobbies). As someone who played this game on its launch, I still genuinely enjoy it in 2023 simply because of the sounds, soundtrack and also the top gear voiceovers. It definitely could have been a great successor but it really needed more time because transitioning to the new generation with only 1 year to make a next-gen game is not enough, that's why they are taking a lot of time for the upcoming Forza Motorsport this year...but if we compare FM5 to other FM titles...overall it is the worst because like you said it had a lot to be desired, but its still a good game :)
Time for more Forza Motorsport content, with Eden behind the wheel and the Burnout 3 theme "Ozone" kicking in... let's see what's in store for us Copium enjoyers today... For you Top Gear fans: Tonight: Eden plays a game, the fans watch him suffer, and Jeremy Clarkson returns
The game isn't that bad really. In a Series where every game is awesome even the "worst" one is still pretty nice. Ofcourse it's going to feel bad if you just go in crashing into everyone at the first corner and not minding breaking points whatsoever xD
@@GraveUypo Now that's just absolute bs. Everyone is joining in on hating FM 7 yet nobody can explain why they think it's bad. It's a fantastic simcade and easily the best in the whole series.
@ESPADA Sigma Oh absolutely. Using a wheel for the modern Forza games is almost mendatroy imo. People who hate on FM 7 go in expecting an arcade like racer like the older Forza games like FM 3 and 4 were. The modern games are a lot more on the Sim side of things.
@ESPADA Sigma I agree on that. Assetto Corsa never felt right to me because of this. FM 7 always felt way more repsonive to me. I never tried iRacing, it's too expensive imo. But yes overall FM 7 leans a lot more on the Sim side than any of the games that came before it. People who want a more arcade feeling like FM 4 just can't get used to it and thus claim that FM 7 is bad. They simply don't know wtf they're talking about
I have very few memories of this game. I remember some of my favorite cars from FM4 being locked away as DLC and, since i was 12 at the time, i couldn't buy them. I just stuck with Horizon 1 and Motorsport 4 until the next games
You can avoid auto upgrading cars, the way I've always handled the new upgrade system is to check what class my next event requires & then buy a car to manually upgrade to that point. If they had removed the ability to build cars the way you want after FM3 I would have been long gone by now lol.
For me, the worst Forza titles are Motorsport 7 and Horizon 5. Motorsport 5 was my first Forza back in the day. I bought an XBox one especially for it (the big black box). I had heard so many good things about Motorsport 4 that I really wanted to have the next Forza. It was actually a pretty decent game. However, the career mode quickly became a bit monotonous. Just like the two successors, unfortunately. What redeemed Motorsport 5 for me in the end was the voice acting by the Top Gear guys, who I'm still a huge fan of to this day.
I think you just about hit the nail on the head there and found out by the end all the things wrong with it. A lot of people that absolutely loved FM4 and the installments before it felt like they had been betrayed and left out. This game not only cut half the cars, but they also cut out half the tracks including a lot of fan favourites like Maple Valley and Fujimi Kaido. A lot of the customisation options were also gone and when added together with everything else, it just felt like half a game. What's even worse is the content of what was left, was just recycled content from FM4. Aside from the graphics and as you pointed out the trackside atmosphere, there really wasn't anything new that added to the gameplay at all and in many ways it felt like a downgrade. It was also the first installment to really push and incentivise using supercars and hypercars rather than taking a shitbox and customising the shit out of it to make it competitive. This removed a lot of what makes Forza fun and the only way I can describe it is like the difference between working for a small time circa~50employee company compared to a global enterprise company. FM5 felt a lot like a corporate suit and tie game whereas the previous installment felt like the freedom and flexibility you get working for a small time company that understands and 'gets' you. FM5 is the game that made me jump ship from the Forza franchise and move on over to Assetto Corsa for the PC and actually I'm glad I did as it only started to get better with FM7, but they also took away the biggest thing that made FM4 enjoyable for online play - the abilitiy to make custom public lobbies so even that's flawed.
Ehhh I disagree. I tested an Xbox one s at work the other day, and I booted up fm5 to test it. The lack of anti-aliasing just hit me right in the eyes. Other than that, the game isnt bad, and hearing Jeremy talk was fucking sick
I started with FM3 and have played every game in the Motorsport series since. Fm4 and subsequently Fm5 are the reason I bought an xbox one in the first place. After putting hundreds if not a couple thousand hours into fm4, and playing Fm5 until Fm6 came out, here are my thoughts. Fm4 was a masterpiece. Turn 10 release what might possibly be the most difficult arcade-sim in existance. Phenominal track selection, very upgraded graphics over FM3, 660 cars and many of which were unique, interesting cars and brands I had never heard before as a kid like Ascari, Morgan and De Tomaso. It not only had legendary real life tracks (including the old silveretone layout) it also had great fictional circuits like Maple Valley, Camino Vaiejo (probably spelled that way wrong) and Fujimo Kaido. The Autovista was brand new, doing challenges to unlock the ability to explore cars as if we could in real life was amazing, and in a way really unique since they didn't do it for every car, each one had a reason and a personality for being there. The main campaign was really good too, even though it was the same basic progression of a Forza game they put the races on calendar dates thet made it feel like you were actually running in a championship day by day. You could upgrade any car within a "car type," to any PI you wanted, or race in events that were completely open to any car as long as you met a competetive performance index and didn't exceed the max. The online is rrally where FM4 shined though and thats the biggest killer for FM5. Fm4's online was unbeatable, like no other I've experienced before or after. Forza is usually about circuit racing online but if you look beyond that FM4 had the best Forza online ever, and I dont think it was intentional. The club system was amazing, giving you a hub of friends or drivers to host lobbies with, send easy invites to events and even share cars. Clubs have never been as good as they have in FM4 in any game after it. But beyond that even, there was just so much to do in the community. I remember it would be things like ym close friends and I taking cars to Fujimi Kaido and setting them in Reverse and rolling down the hill like a soap-box derby. We would do demolitoon derbies on the Sebring back straight grass with sim damage turned on. We would go to Le Mans and get a Saleen S7 stuck in the ground and start launching Bugatti Veyrons the length of the Mulsanne Straight. And outside ofnyour friend group there were car shows, cruises, party games on the test track, there was just so much we could do besides racing. I played 5 years of FM4 and I hardly ever cared about winning a race, I was always just having fun with my friends. FM4 has so many other great features I wont go into detail about, but will list: Topgear Soccer Test Track easy, Open Online lobbies Buying paint jobs on the storefront instead of throwing designs in our face as soon as we buy the car. Split screen Better affinity system Profiles/badges Changeable main menu setting including the Topgear studio +Many more On the contrary, FM5... Is a solid game compared to FM4. Obviously the graphics and physics got a massive uograde from previous which was really cool to see. I loved seeing all the aero stuff wiggle and vibrate under high speed. The garage was really nice and the Topgear crew returning was really cool. I did like some of the new tracks but their airfield test track sucks butt and they didn't have Maple Valley or Fujimi either. Overall FM5 does a lot of things well, but I believe a number of things killed it. Bad progression The career was too simple and I hate that everything is available from the start. Atleast in FM4 you had to ublock certain series by reaching a certain level. It felt like there was no progression at all beyond buying cars - and at that point you might-aswell find the best way to grind money and just buy all the cars, the racing really didnt feel like it mattered. I think psychologically a part of that is the drivatars. Instead of forming a rivaly against "Simon G." Or "Manuel L." (Which granted are crummy driver names as well) we constantly switch drivatars so one race you could be fighting with xxTentacle69beastXx and the next race its forgotten_Wheelwell1970 instead. It just ruined the immersion for me, especially if you don't turn off "Drivatar designs". Low car numbers Not only did the car roster lack in quantity in FM5, I felt it lacked in quality too massively. It saw a few cool flagship cars like the Mclaren P1 and the Porsche GT3 and Audi Le Mans Prototype cars at the time, but beyond that I didnt feel like there were any "unique" cars that stood out to me from the rest on the car list. Then again, it has been 5 or 6 years since I looked through that car list. The selection that they had was great at beet, good for most and lacking for real enthusiasts. Unfortunately the graphical update kinda forced this, but Xbox should've given Turn 10 more time, or atleast done some large car packs to get the number closer to 500. Upgrade system/homoligation The uograde system is redundant in this game for the career. Absolutely just overlapped by the homoligation system when buying a car. If I remember correctly even from the dealership it asks if you want to homoligate your car to some kind of spec. I also hated it for variety in the races. I can no longer choose to uograde my car if I want to race it, and if I want to race a stock version of that car I am significantly outpaced by drivatars with Homoligation upgrades. So racing cars within the same series felt very samey and the experience was a forced "Lets all be the same so its fair" situation when realistically some of the cars didnt need homoligating. It also considered NOTHING except for engine power, weight and PI, so it was kinda broken. Online Fm5's online was a disaster... It was the first in a very long line of Forza games that just can't nail the online experience like FM4 did. A lot of this is due to the crappy online features of the Xbox One, but it still is important to mention. Xbox's party system became difficult to use and a hassle, simply inviting a friend can sometimes be a ten minute ordeal just finding the button. Friends lists are garbage now, Xbox tried to make their main menu into a facebook feed of everybody so you can "Follow" people without friending them and it serves absolutely no purpose. Xbox drove people away from their online experience and I know a lot of people that literally just kept their Xbox One around to use the Netflix app. All of this bled into FM5's multiplayer with the added bonus of no class-based online racing (at launch) and very finnicky, hard to use lobbies that had awful connection problems and didn't accomodate game chat very well. The community was smaller and therefore there was less to do. Less people hosting events, finding new fun things to do, less friends to meey, hell there was just less people talking in lobbies in general. Fm5 could have been amazing, but the game before it was an absolute masterpiece so its very hard to give FM5 any wins here. FM 4 will always ALWAYS be my pinnacle of the series for all of these reasons and more. FM5 wasn't bad, it just couldn't live up to the absolute titan that came before it.
You kind of missed about half of the cars are locked through a DLC pass that cost about nearly the same price as the game. That was a major switch off for Forza fans and video gamers alike who start advocating to ban microtransactions from all video games. Overall, 2013 marked the beginning of the video game popularity decline.
@@calebstrachan7588 when we see what the DLC cycle has become now I would much rather pay for car pack releases. I hate the live model so much it pretty much made me abandon FH5 altogether. Atleast with the car packs I can instantly go and purchase every car I paid for multiple times over and do whatever I want to it. Without the car pass FM4 would've missed out on legends like the bugatti veyron, the hummer H1 and the 71 Dodge Dart super stock. Granted yes it was a bit expensive as a DLC purchase but looking at game DLC now, it was hardly egregious. With FM5 now I've paid $120 (twice the game's original cost) and their DLC model is pisspoor. I payed an extra $60 for a rehashed hotwheels expansion and rally upgrades that should've been in the game from the beginning. This is Mexico, come on. But beyond all that. The festival playlost is the bane of my existance. I hate it. I hate being forced into whatever stupid bullshit races they choose this week. Can't beat the PR stunts? Too bad no car for you. Can't find a decent team for the Trial? No car for you. You just want to do your own thing in an open world racing game? Sorry you just missed all 3 new cars for the week and you'll never get them for the next 6 months because they don't even show up in the auction house. And if they do it's a $20,000,000 buyout. So yes, I would much rather pay a sum once and get all my cars now than be trickle-fed content I wasn't even sure I wanted. Thats the last point I'll make: atleast with the car packs we knew what was coming before we bought them. Now we are kinda just forced to sit through whatever dribble playground games decides to leak into the car list this month. I love cars, I love collecting cars, but when collecting all the weekly rewards and trying to afford the ones I missed on the auction house genuinely takes hours to grind when I could instead be habing fun with these cars, or playing something else more worth my time, it makes me not want to play. I just want to buy cars and drive/race them how I want, not how playground games wants me to.
Unpopular opinion here but fm5 was my favorite game in the series outside fh2. It wasn’t objectively the best game in the series but for me, just being able to play online with an at the time huge community that was so diverse was what truly awe struck me. I have 100s of videos on my Xbox captures of me and a few of my old friends just spending hours upon hours goofing off and really pushing the game to its limits playing tag virus. Then once the game started to die I set my eyes on getting top 100 on each track in each class (except x cuz I hate f1 cars in forza games). Overall this game brought me the most fun and I met most of my friends through it so I owe a lot to fm5 even if it wasn’t the greatest in the franchise and I’m just glad I was around when it was first released just to experience it in its prime.
If you ever wanted to upgrade your own car, basically just look at all the options the series gives you, then back out and buy it in the shop, it'll come stock and you can upgrade it yourself.
Or just, yaknow, remove the upgrades the one you get from entering the series puts on and apply your own? I really dont understand why he didn't understand that part. Its a shortcut so that newbies didnt have to spec out a car in the upgrade shop to meet the class level for the series. in FM7 its done through Homologaiton spec which is even more strict and makes it not even viable to make custom races with a specific car group and have a higher class PI group.
4 was the best, so many memories from that game. 6 was very good too and easily the best forza title on the new Xbox. Surpassing all of the horizon games to this day in my opinion except for FH1
When Forza Motorsport 5 came out it was a jaw drop, the game was absolutely beautiful and felt photorealistic at the time. I remember the driving definitely feeling worse than 4 but compared to Horizon games or even 7, it was fine, and totally acceptable as a next-generation game which was really intended to show off the graphics. I still had countless fun hours in Forza Motorsport 5, it had a beautiful, clean feel with its UI and cutscenes, it made it feel fresh and more of an ode to the beauty of racing compared than the silly/chaotic nature of the Horizon games. FM5 is great and is honestly worth playing far more than 7. Forza Motorsport 5 took itself seriously, and that's why it still holds up in my opinion. I think a lot of the hate comes from the multiplayer experience. FM5 had a lot of connectivity issues and glitches in multiplayer, but the singleplayer experience is great!
I've been playing Forza Motorsport 6 alot recently and its amazing. I think its one of my favorite games now. I did play Motorsport 7 a little but I didnt and couldnt get into it. I didnt play anything before Motorsports 6.
Best looking fm game , had best wheel support out of all fm games and it had the best music. I can tolerate the degradation in terms of content since it was a rushed next gen title. But the attention to detail is amazing. Almost all tracks after fm5 got a downgrade. Newer tracks have less grass , much less 3d trees , less bushes and overall they feel dead compared to fm5.
Maybe it is if you only played them all at 1080p. But FM7 was the only one that got the "Xbox One X enhanced" treatment. The Enhanced version of FM7 absolutely destroys this game, locked 4k 60 and full HDR. FM7 also has way more cars, which is the main draw of a simcade racer imo
@@acurisur bro i meant the track details. Fm7 has insane amount of 2d trees that are easily noticable especially in 4k 💀. Fm5 barely has 2d trees. Most of them are 3d. Fm5 also has more bushes , crowd , better atmosphere, more grass and overall more details even tho it's only 1080p. 4k doesn't mean anything to me when i don't have 4k display. Of course it will have more cars when the game is 4 years apart 💀. Man doesn't know what's he talking about. Lighting is also trash in fm7 compared fm5's.
@@preciousbabygirl5225 video quality was poor, notably when any space scene appeared, it would fail to properly display the stars, with a blue ray disk you would have to hold it as it was trying to suck it in for about a second, otherwise the drive would not spin and fail to read the disk, as well as problems reading data in general.
I still think that Forza Horizon 2 for Xbox 360 is the worst game of Forza franchise. It has a lot of bugs, out-of-bounds, missing features, cars and bad graphics as well. Also no Storm Island DLC and the F&F DLC was a complete tragedy. I wonder till this day why devs even launched fh2 for Xbox360.
No, 6 has them with the card mod system. People at the time complained when 7 had them but they are nowhere near as prominent as on 6, they are just optional challenges to improve payouts on 7; on 6 they can alter car properties as well like more grip or acceleration
@@lordeilluminati fm7 had straight-up lootboxes and were planning to implement "tokens" (that would have surely allowed people to spend real money on said lootboxes if they were to be implemented) before player outcry nipped those plans in the bud almost immediately. I would say that the fact they were even considering such a system in the first place says everything one needs to know about where T10's priorities are these days. it's no longer about the fans, the graphics, or even the cars -- it's just about money. the soulless, corporate-feeling, clinical nature of the newer Motorsport games exemplifies this. it feels like they have no soul left because they *really do* have no soul left. the fact they've almost completely torpedoed the loyalty program tells classic Forza fans like myself all they should need to know about Forza's priorities going forward. it's sickening and disheartening. fm7 at launch also replaced the VIP bonuses with LIMITED USE payout-boosting cards, a decision that was also incredibly quickly reversed (within 48 hours of full game launch, at the end of the EA period) following player outcry. but the bitter taste of that decision lingered, and it was yet another nail in the coffin for many.
The thing I remember most about this game is the menu music was depressing as hell is hot! I turned it off and NEVER turned it back on! The No2 thing I remember most about this game is it felt like half a game. Sure, new console, but flex your muscles a bit! This game gave me less content than FM4!
I feel like it was the most hated because it was the first underwhelming entry. Can't really say which Forza is the worst as I haven't played enough of them. Never bought the new one, though I'll probably wait for a price drop and/or if they decide to fix the issues people are having with it. As of now, I don't know if it's better or worse than Gran Turismo 7.
Forza Motorsport 5 was my first ever car game, let alone for a game. I had some of the most fun ever on that game, I truly loved it and it’ll always hold a special place in my heart.
What bothered me about 4 was the amount of money I spent on all the dlc packs. Literally purchased every single one and then the new console and games came out and many of those cars never came back and all that money wasted as a teen. Then I skipped 5 altogether and jumped to 6 with the Forza 6 edition console of which I'm still using today. I've never been one to upgrade consoles fast as I still play a lot of the older stuff. To me it's not worth immediate upgrades
It was especially disappointing after coming from the masterpiece that was Forza 4. I thought I was a Forza fanboy but when I put 5 in I bought a PS4 shortly after 💀
The auto tune was added for people that wouldn't know where to start with mods, and the mods applied are very all round as far as performance, like it may put better tyres on a car that doesn't need it etc Also the auto upgrade won't change the aesthetics of the car so you'll need to change your wheels and body parts etc which will also change PI. Also custom mods can be catered to certain tracks, like if you need more acceleration and top end over handling
Massive Props to your Editors for the Mythbusters Segment, that was brilliant :D The Graphics Showcase Game, unfortunate that this was the series's first foray on the Xbox One gen but as you say its still stunning to look at. Also the Drivatars were a cool idea but by FM6 it devolved completely into marketing speak, even for FM5 the system wasn't completely functional but it atleast existed. It's likely good that it's not a thing anymore though considering how most people drive against the AI lol. The Top Gear content is pretty much the main redeeming feature in terms of content alongside some of the new Hypercars. I do really miss that shift in focus though from having the progression from more simple cars to higher end ones. Ever since FM5 you just immediately hopping into something sporty and the progression lost its meaning. The basic cars were admittedly slow and sometimes tedious but I do prefer the scaling in terms of speed which allowed new players to get used to handling and racing. I often wonder if Online Racing would be less of a Demo Derby if that was still the case instead of being able to buy FM7/FH4/FH5 and getting a free Hypercar in your first 5 mins. In terms of the games though atleast FH2 on the Xbox One was very solid but this was the beginning of the end of Motorsport taking the spotlight in terms of Forza. The success of FH3 just further cemented that and put the final nail in Motorsport's Coffin as the premier Forza title. FM6 was very good though, it's probably my favourite of the Xbox One generation of Motorsport games. FM7 has more content but the Homologation System for upgrades on top of PI is just irritating and very restrictive which makes the very long career even more of a slog. A lot of the extra content there is Off-roaders and stuff which are just a waste of space, FM6 was just a more streamlined experience overall imo. None can match the earlier titles though unfortunately, one of my biggest regrets is not getting into FM3 and 4 earlier and buying the DLC for them. So many unique and interesting cars are now pretty much lost (in a legitimate manner atleast) and they're unlikely to appear in the series again even in Horizon.
I still think FM7 is the worst yet because it was just such huge disappointment. Shitty sounds, shitty AI, Shitty career. I actually had more fun in FM5 at the time it released.
I loved Forza 5! I even got the achievement for doing 400 of the career races. My least favorite is actually Forza 6, it felt significantly worse than 5.
the automatic upgrades hurt so much, because the 7th game did the same thing... it is like they are afraid people will try to interact with the systems of the game...
I think removing the bottom of the barrel budget cars is a pretty big issue modern Forza games suffer from. Yeah they may be crap cars that go 0-60 in 10 years but you get a better sense of reward, working your way up from compacts to affordable coupes, GT cars to supercars. Modern Forza games seem to reward you too early, giving you an Audi TT or BMW M3 as a starter car
Hell this is even an issue in regards to more "mid trim" cars, every car is it's biggest baddest version too. So not only are we lacking super slow cars, we're lacking slow variants of cars too. Really hit me when I went from fh2 to fh3 and noticed the Corvette stingray and 15 mustang GT had been replaced by the Z06 and GT350
@@wolfgang_h3t Not to mention alot of the older cars from the 70s and 80s are the US spec versions, so they have big ugly bumpers or retrofitted headlights to meet American safety standards of the time. Like the Volvo 240 in Horizon 4, it had it's factory headlights replaced by standard rectangle bulbs and just looked wrong
I have thousands of hours in Forza games, I hated 5 at first, but grew to love it, same with 6, and 7, but 7 is the worst one in the series imo. I have the most time in 7, mainly because nothing has come out since. Unless you count Horizon games, in which case 3, 4, and 5 are all crap. They make it nearly impossible to race a homologation series upgraded. You can set up a custom B, A, S, etc, but you’re not in with similar cars, it’s anything goes. Like, Yeah, my modded Evo has a chance vs an Ariel Atom v8. Setting up custom races, which that’s the end game in a FM game, especially in newer ones. Remember older FM games? They had tons of preconfigured races to choose from, newer FM games don’t do that at all outside the career mode. The micro transactions are insulting, just buy the ultimate edition. Race length outside of free play doesn’t give you any freedom to choose the length of the race. I race on pro difficulty, I can’t get to 1st place in 2 or 3 laps. The game does not like to run at a high frame rate, idk why that is. For example, I can run the game at 10K, yes 10K, it’s like 4K, only 10, at 60 fps, but I can’t maintain a solid 120 fps at 4K, even with a 13900K, which should laugh at that game. There’s more, it’s just been awhile since I thought about it, I just accept it now and work around the stupid flaws.
Last year i've did playthroughs of 5-6-7 Motorsports, and i've gotta say, all of them have some flaws. For example, in 6-7 entries the devs traded quantity over quality in terms of racing tracks and cars: damage system is way less detailed, environment on tracks are less detailed too - for example, some tracks in FM5 had 3-d trees while in FM7 all of them ('side from a few on Mount Panorama) are in 2-d. But they've added weather system and upped (a little) the reflections. Also the camera angle for close pursuit mode in FM5 is better in my opinion. My biggest grip with FM5 is a very limited number of environments - 13 (!!!) is a joke, with my favourite Nordschleife and La Sart tracks almost unused in career mode. This game should've stay in development for another year methinks. FYI. new Forza Motorsport 2023 has 20 tracks + their variations (night\day ain everse etc.) which is not very good, because both FM6 and FM7 had 26+ Still , FM5 is a very good game, it just could've been much better.
I'm surprised Motorsport5 has a bad reputation. It was the most detailed and realistic Forza at the time. My friends and I have great memories of the fun endurance racing we would do. We actually had to pit for fuel and tires. That was so cool to us back then.
Imagine owning a 2020 Toyota Corolla. Then, in 2024, you upgrade to the 2024 Corolla. The new Corolla costs the same, but it doesn't have AC, electric windows, stereo, and it only has three wheels. Same price, newer model, half the stuff. That's why we disliked FM5
it's still crazy to me to hear that this game is considered one of the worst entries of Forza, this game holds a special place in my heart after finally finding a game to like since Test Drive Unlimited 2.
I remember playing this at Disney Land inside the futuristic place. It was on the xbox one when it recently came out. I played this for the first time I was so amazed on how good it looks
I never played FM5 but the damage model looks like a mix of the old games and new games where the old games would have more obvious dents in the model itself and the newer games would chuck a wrinkly normal map over damaged areas.
@@coletrickIe played both FM3/4, Absolute masterpieces as long as you don't use the "forza" mode wich babies you through the events rather than leting you choose what to do next
The online experience was pretty good for FM5, my favourite aspect was that they hosted unique one off endurance race events every so often, which you never see on online console games anymore. I remember competing in online events such as a full Indy 500, 2.4 hour Nurburgring, Spa and Le Mans races and you'd get a special event achievement on your Xbox profile for participating. It was always fun to see around the 2 hour mark of a race when players batteries would run out in their controller and their car would just fly into a wall 😄 I still have memories of doing the indy 500 race and seeing the low battery message pop up on screen, I had a spare pair on standby next to me so that when they ran out, I'd do the fastest battery reload for my controller that I'd ever done.
What? Online racing in FM5 was trash. They got rid of user created lobbies, public hoppers were crash fests, the selection of online lobbies were poor with many unbalanced classes. Public lobbies were dead compared to FM4. They pretty much killed league racing with this game too.
I didn't realize that Forza Motorsport 5 is considered to be the worst Forza game. For me, it's one of my most favorite Forza game (now this was also my first-ever Forza game)
I remember this game being extremely grindy back on release. The most 2 most expensive cars (the Lotus F1 car and the 250 GTO?) were 6 million credits each and the payouts were extremely stingy, something like 10-15K per race. Even the VIP status which was meant to give you more money didn't help much with that. Combine that with the unbalanced token system, and it was almost f2p mobile game level of greed. They later doubled the payouts and reduced the price of the most expensive cars down to 2 mil after community backlash. Huh, which modern racing game does this remind me of... There was also the lack of my multiplayer features on the 360 era, the massive reduction in cars, tracks and events, no real career mode, no incentive to win races, the drivatars were notoriously aggressive and unfair and had none of the personally of the previous games' AI which were prone to errors in corners. Gameplay and features wise, this game was hot garbage. The only good thing you could praise about it were the gorgeous visuals and the excellent sound design and original score, which is basically what the game was meant to be at the end of the day - a tech demo of the Xbox One. Shame it turned out as it did.
I still think this game looks beautiful. Obviously it lacks features that would later arrive in upcoming titles in the series, but I wouldn't mind playing it if I had nothing else to play, when talking racing games. It isn't perfect, never was... But its still one of my most cherised moments from the start of Xbox One. I got it when it was new and I was blown away by how good it looked. I will forever remember that.
The workaround I do for FM5 is just buying cars from the regular menu, then choose the upgrades manually. You can also remove the auto upgrades, but I usually just buy them in the BUY CAR menu.
FM5 was my first ever Forza game, and the game that ultimately led me to liking the Franchise. It was really fun back then, especially the like infection mode. I ended up getting a new Xbox and I had a redeem code for FM6, but somehow they didn't have the game available so I was given FH3 instead, and now FH3 still stands, after 6 years, as my favorite game, as well as being the game that ultimately made me a car person. So basically, FM5 changed the course of my life
I enjoyed FM5, i have good memories with it and it has a special place in my heart. Was my first game I got on the xbox one, i was blown away by the upgrades that were made in the visuals department. The racing is still good imo, but even though there were positives, i cant ignore there was a lot of negative, mainly in lack of content. I remember going "wow" every time i played this when it first came out, but the luster wore off quick and theres no reason i would go back to it today. Was a good frame work for 6 and 7 though i think.
Sebring was built out of old airstrips & taxiways, like the Top Gear track (aka Dunsfold). That's why it's so flat, and partially made of concrete instead of asphalt.
I picked up a second hand Xbox One X a couple of years ago and this was one of the games it came with. It was the first game I tried with my new toy and having come from playing a 360 for years was immediately blown away by the graphics. It's my first Forza game and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially liked the intro bits with the Top Gear guys, I'm a big fan of TG and that was an unexpected bonus. To think this is arguably the weakest entry in the series is surprising to me. If you don't want to waste money on the forced upgrades for the cars, just decide which one you want then exit the career mode and go to the marketplace and buy the car there. It will be base stock and you can upgrade it as you like.
What, I played this game so much and loved it. :((( I played it the most I think. I still have it and play it sometimes... I don't know why they think it's bad.
FM5 had still way more content at release than the average race game. And why did it had just around 200 instead of 700 cars ? Because EVERY car in FM5 had Autovista quality whereas FM4 just had 25!! at that quality level. Why do people say worst FM ever ? Because they did not understand why it "only" had around 200 cars. Some poeple just compare numbers (Less content > Bad game) and that to me is a very bad way to look at things. Personally I had the same great FM experience in FM5 as in every other FM game i played and i played all of them. 😃
For me, the number of cars plays a secondary role. I prefer quality over quantity. With hundreds of cars, it shouldn't come as a surprise if some details are skimped on...
Gotta say. The '03 350Z/Fairlady Z has been a meta car in almost every single Forza game. So it kinda hurt my soul a little when you said it was bad in every racing game.
Forza Motorsport 5 was my introduction to the Forza franchise and honestly I don't understand why it gets so much hate. The game looks beautiful to date, car models are all detailed fully and honestly, I wish I could play it for the first time again. FM7 just lacks a lot of the Forza-ness. But yeah, me personally, I love FM5.
This was my first Forza game ever. Coming from the PS2 era the graphics were so amazing to my ignorant self I didn't really care about the lack of content. But looking back, especially after playing FH4, it pales in comparison
19:59 you may say this but I distinctly remember getting this game for Christmas when I was 10 years old and the game had just come out, the physics were so unbearable that I literally cried because I spent most of the race just crashing and rewinding and it was so unsatisfying. It actually turned me off from playing ANY racing game with closed tracks, even Grid 2 which I really regret cuz I played it in 2019 and enjoyed it a LOT
Regarding the tail happy RWD cars, if you have simularion steering on while on controller, they are painfull to steer, and spin out as easily as in GT7 with the launch handling (best way I can think to describe it, sorry). On normal steering, the cars are actually drivable, without the rear tires feeling like they have the lateral grip of a stick of butter. As for the game itself, I actually bought and played FM5 for a bit earlier this year, with my only previous experience with the motorsport games being FM7, (which I`ve owned and have been playing semi regularly since a few months after FH4 released), and it hasn`t really been holding my attention like I was hoping it would. The first thing I noticed was how much the career structure reminded me on FH2, and the 2nd thing I noticed was that the ui and general look and feel of the game gives off this almost clinical vibe, and the whole thing lacks character, IMO Compared to FM7 ( my only other point of reference), I`d say the handling is pretty similer, though I think I prefer how FM7 feels, and I prefer how it looks too. The colors may not be as vibrant, but I feel like there is more detail in the cars and environments, and the weather and time of day stuff is sorely missed in FH5 since it adds visual and gameplay veriety (and the rain looks great IMO). As for the career modes in both, I`d say same crap different smell... They are setup different from each other to be sure, but neither offer meaningfull progression, and you find yourself just going from event to event, from championship to championship, with the same basic restrictions of both car type and PI, and an auto upgrade that takes any potential strategy that could come from tuning the cars yourself. FM7 actually adds adfitional restrictions to what types of parts you can use (for example no more than sport parts), and if I remember for horsepower as well. There is also the ability to homologate your car for the event (so auto upgrade), and even add restrictor plates (and ai think ballasts as well) to make a higher class car fit a lower class race. This feature seems like it`s controversial, if this comment section is anything to go by, but I actually like these restrictions, since I feel like they make sense within the context of motorsport, since there are regulations that govern what can and can`t be done to a car to qualify for a certain class or series IRL. You are also given the ability to buy and auto upgrade cars in FM7, or just buy them without applying upgrades (I believe you`re forced to buy the homologation parts regardless), and than build the car yourself, within the limitarions set by the championship. FM7 also lets you know visually when a part isn`t allowed in the championship, withou you having to buy it. I do prefer the way FM7`s career is setup, but to be honest both are unremarkable (though FM7`s career reminds me of grid 2 and later games) Overall I haven`t been liking FM5 as nuch as I do FM7, but I do think that at the end of the day it`s still a great game (if a bit lacking in character), and probably one of the best simulator-esque racing games of the time. I also think it would`ve been much better recieved if it didn`t have to follow FM3 and 4.I also recognise that the evolution from 5 to 7 maybe isn`t as big as it should`ve been, even if I`d argue that it`s still fairly substantial
what’s interesting is that, going into the game having no knowledge whatsoever of the community’s opinion, you’ll still find a rather incredible racing game, it just never lived up to the standards it’s predecessor left for it.
This was my exact experience. Totally agree with you.
Only played FM2 before this one after I got a second hand XOne with a bunch of games in it, and honestly my experience was fantastic. Now have tried FM4 after 6 years... it's considerably better in content, but I love FM5 still. It's somewhat underrated imo.
@@somedudedelespagne can you play fm4 on xbox one now?
@@joshs4282 Bought a 360 for it, FM4 is not backwards compatible for some very, very dumb reason

@@JZStudiosonlineI'm fully expecting 8 to let me down.
Can't believe FM5 is 10 years old now. I remember playing the demo in Best Buy years ago

100% same. Nothing but great memories.
i remember being slightly disappointed with the size of the game. besides that tho i just remember thinking this is not quite f4 with better graphics which is all all of us wanted really
Yeah, not a bad game, it just doesn't live up to what the series was.
Something worth considering is that you're playing the most recent patch of the game, not the broken mess it launched as. No private multiplayer lobbies, replays not working etc.
...so every Motorsport launch?
well, it seems like it's safe to say that Turn 10 outdid themselves, they finally managed to launch a Forza Motorsport Game thats way worse than this.
Forza 5 honestly has some of the best music in the entire series IMO, especially the menu version of Sterling Fisher, my favourite song in the whole game.
Indeed. The passion and Identity was still present, unlike today.
Obviously talking about the Motorsport series here, not Horizon
Not to mention the fact that most of the time the upgrades the game puts on the car are way worse than if you just did it yourself.
@@speedchannel7196 worse ? Did we even play the same game? You pick the car did the races without thinking about it people overthink everything.
Fm7, the cars feel kind of weird, They tried to mix arcade with simulation, but it was like 80% arcade and 20% simulation.

The game isn't that bad really. In a Series where every game is awesome even the "worst" one is still pretty nice. Ofcourse it's going to feel bad if you just go in crashing into everyone at the first corner and not minding breaking points whatsoever xD
this isn't the worst one though. that's fm7, probably.
@@GraveUypo Now that's just absolute bs. Everyone is joining in on hating FM 7 yet nobody can explain why they think it's bad. It's a fantastic simcade and easily the best in the whole series.
@@purwantiallan5089 Sure it is, lmfao. You people are obviously blinded by nostalgia.
Forza horizon looks great. But it's a proof that amazing graphics don't make a game.

@@purwantiallan5089 What about FM6 and the custom lobbies?
Jake should turn "Motorsport Mythbusters" to a regular series.
The graphics for 2013 were mind blowing. It still looks great till this day
Ehhh I disagree. I tested an Xbox one s at work the other day, and I booted up fm5 to test it. The lack of anti-aliasing just hit me right in the eyes. Other than that, the game isnt bad, and hearing Jeremy talk was fucking sick
U r right look at gta v the graphics helds to this day and win in every video comparison
FM4 has so many other great features I wont go into detail about, but will list:
Topgear
Soccer
Test Track
easy, Open Online lobbies
Buying paint jobs on the storefront instead of throwing designs in our face as soon as we buy the car.
Split screen
Better affinity system
Profiles/badges
Changeable main menu setting including the Topgear studio
+Many more
On the contrary, FM5...
Bad progression
The career was too simple and I hate that everything is available from the start.
Low car numbers
Not only did the car roster lack in quantity in FM5, I felt it lacked in quality too massively.
Upgrade system/homoligation
The uograde system is redundant in this game for the career.
Online
Fm5's online was a disaster...
I felt this way with gt6 back in 2015/16
If you ever wanted to upgrade your own car, basically just look at all the options the series gives you, then back out and buy it in the shop, it'll come stock and you can upgrade it yourself.
I liked 5, but it felt a bit lacking. FM4 will always be my favourite
4 was always my favorite, just like GT4 was PS wise.
4 was the best, so many memories from that game. 6 was very good too and easily the best forza title on the new Xbox. Surpassing all of the horizon games to this day in my opinion except for FH1
FM2 was my favorite. It had the s2000 engine swap for hondas and it had one of my favorite tracks, new york circuit.
10:17 As an American myself, i often wonder the same thing
Unbeatable: Prepare to be Humbled.
Me a Forza vet: No it's you that's about to be Humbled
Nah fm4 definitely had the best music. I agree with everything else tho
What I noticed is that we need a documentary about the history of car racing and racing cars narrated by Jeremy Clarkson.
As a previous owner of an Xbox One, the blue ray player was shit and barely worked
Why
@@preciousbabygirl5225 video quality was poor, notably when any space scene appeared, it would fail to properly display the stars, with a blue ray disk you would have to hold it as it was trying to suck it in for about a second, otherwise the drive would not spin and fail to read the disk, as well as problems reading data in general.
Forza Motorsport 5 was the first game I got in the series so it holds a soft spot for me. But 6 and 7 were better imo.
As an Australian myself, that upside down joke is priceless. 🇦🇺
ooʇ uɐᴉlɐɹʇsnɐ uɐ sɐ ǝǝɹƃɐ ᴉ ɥɐǝʎ
I remember 5-6 having gacha mechanics but playing 5 again i think it may have been patched out.
To me it's not worth immediate upgrades
its weird to think we almost lost the xbox in 2014
Another racing game thats almost 10yrs old you should go back and play that didn't deserve the death it got, is Drive Club
It was especially disappointing after coming from the masterpiece that was Forza 4. I thought I was a Forza fanboy but when I put 5 in I bought a PS4 shortly after 💀
problem with 5-6 is 4 was WAY TOO GOOD)
6 was a very good game, way better than 5. Easily the best forza title for the Xbox one
FM4 is the best overall though by far
The auto tune was added for people that wouldn't know where to start with mods, and the mods applied are very all round as far as performance, like it may put better tyres on a car that doesn't need it etc
Also the auto upgrade won't change the aesthetics of the car so you'll need to change your wheels and body parts etc which will also change PI.
Also custom mods can be catered to certain tracks, like if you need more acceleration and top end over handling
Massive Props to your Editors for the Mythbusters Segment, that was brilliant :D
The Graphics Showcase Game, unfortunate that this was the series's first foray on the Xbox One gen but as you say its still stunning to look at.
Man everyone is hating on fm7 and here i am with 200+ hours on it and i love it
FH5 introduced for every improvement a downgrade and that was the crux of every following title. Imo
I still think FM7 is the worst yet because it was just such huge disappointment. Shitty sounds, shitty AI, Shitty career. I actually had more fun in FM5 at the time it released.
Forza Motorsport 5 was my first forza game. In fact, it’s what got me into cars in the first place, and I’m now an engineering student as a result.
I loved Forza 5! I even got the achievement for doing 400 of the career races. My least favorite is actually Forza 6, it felt significantly worse than 5.
This was the game that got me into Forza. I’d played 2 and 3 but didn’t really get into it. This got me in and I went back and played the older ones.
the automatic upgrades hurt so much, because the 7th game did the same thing... it is like they are afraid people will try to interact with the systems of the game...
FYI. new Forza Motorsport 2023 has 20 tracks + their variations (night\day
ain
everse etc.) which is not very good, because both FM6 and FM7 had 26+
Still , FM5 is a very good game, it just could've been much better.
I can’t believe I got fucking jumpscared by a light bulb appearing over Dustin’s head. That plus the loud sound effect made me jump LMAO
A demo of Forza Motorsport 5 was what drew me towards Xbox after being a Playstation player for most of my life.
@@coletrickIe played both FM3/4, Absolute masterpieces as long as you don't use the "forza" mode wich babies you through the events rather than leting you choose what to do next
The highest polygons car models in Forza are in fact the one used on FM5.
2 4 & 6 are best
Even numbers, like Windows
I grinded laps on all of those and wound up with top 20s on most if not all tracks.
Gt7 has hosted endurance races, right?
What? Online racing in FM5 was trash. They got rid of user created lobbies, public hoppers were crash fests, the selection of online lobbies were poor with many unbalanced classes.
Public lobbies were dead compared to FM4. They pretty much killed league racing with this game too.
@@purwantiallan5089 Untrue, horizons 4 and 5 are both worse than those.
I didn't realize that Forza Motorsport 5 is considered to be the worst Forza game. For me, it's one of my most favorite Forza game (now this was also my first-ever Forza game)
Compared to 1/2/3/4 it's awful
Both fm5 and fh2 are very bright and vibrant.i love them.fh2 is my fav looking forza game
Motorsport 5 for me was summed up in one small saying. Open na noor
I will forever remember that.
this video came out a little too early, FM(2023) is probably the worst to date
1:45 looks so much better than the new forza amd this was 10 years ago wtf
Fm5 was my first ever Forza game I really enjoyed it, I didn’t even know it was universally hated
So basically, FM5 changed the course of my life
It was a huge disappointment after Forza 4 but it was still a genuinely good game
Autovista for all cars isn't worth cutting 60% of your content for.
Bla bla. How lonely you are that this is still a thing lulz
But yeah, me personally, I love FM5.
i had this game when i was 5 and i loved it, idk why people hate it so much
I grew up playing forza 5, and for me and my siblings it was perfect, and that's all that matters to me :D
I much prefer Forza Motorsport 4 rather instead Forza Motorsport 5 because is of one the worst Forza game they ever did

The new Forza Motorsport is now the most hated Forza game
1:49 well, it's almost been a year since the latest one released, easily can say that FM23 is the worst forza motorsport game ever
I'd give FM5 a 6/10
Think the reason why it was hated was from the lack of content compared to forza 4 it had like 200 cars compare to the 600 cars 4 had
I loved fm6 level up things and top gear challanges in all the forza motorsport games, I loved wining a Indy car or getting quite a bit of credits
The only one i love about this game is the Top Gear UK voices.
Explain every and each class with passion.
One day you’ll have to acknowledge Forza Street, Dustin.
ah yes csr with forza licence
FM5 has the best graphics out of the three xbox one games
The first thing I noticed was how much the career structure reminded me on FH2, and the 2nd thing I noticed was that the ui and general look and feel of the game gives off this almost clinical vibe, and the whole thing lacks character, IMO
Compared to FM7 ( my only other point of reference), I`d say the handling is pretty similer, though I think I prefer how FM7 feels, and I prefer how it looks too.
I do prefer the way FM7`s career is setup, but to be honest both are unremarkable (though FM7`s career reminds me of grid 2 and later games)
Overall I haven`t been liking FM5 as nuch as I do FM7, but I do think that at the end of the day it`s still a great game (if a bit lacking in character), and probably one of the best simulator-esque racing games of the time. I also think it would`ve been much better recieved if it didn`t have to follow FM3 and 4.I also recognise that the evolution from 5 to 7 maybe isn`t as big as it should`ve been, even if I`d argue that it`s still fairly substantial
The upsides and downsides of this game seem to almost perfectly mirror gran turismo 3 if you think about it
