I’d be willing to bet that knocking noise coming from the engine is the pistons clipping the valves. It probably broke its timing chain guides like all the other 4.0 engines do and jumped time. That would explain the crappy idle and the noises. Engine is toast. It’s amazing it’s even running
Jay Smart oh duh you’re right. The overhead cam came a little later. Unfortunately I had an explorer with the SOHC for my first car and the guides failed at 158,000 miles.... push rods don’t sound so bad all of a sudden smh.
I do postmates with one of these, almost 300k miles on the engine, the check engine light is always on, the mpg is shit but its the only car we got, hoping i can make enough on postmates to get a better car.
Poor baby... my mom's old '96 Explorer ran perfectly until Thanksgiving 2018 when a squirrel ate the cables and hoses out of it. That's really the only thing wrong with her though.
If you want to talk about a self destructing car im bringing up my 2000 Pontiac bonneville! Ive had issues with it on cold starts the last month but me and my buddies wind up believing it was the ecm and a few sensors i had the mass air flow replaced 3 days before. But today i went to start it sfter it sat for three days and i hear a loud bang I quickly popped the hood to see the valve covers split in half and basically the whole back of the motor blown apart. A minute later the whole engine bay was in flames! Thank god i was able to keep the fire under control. Car had almost 171,000 on it. At least this explorer still runs
...'JB Weld' the intake, wherever it has a major crack...I've also fixed them (if they have smaller air leaks or small cracks) by dribbling in 'Krazy Glue' into the crack!!)...no problem...It's likely a vacuum leak...The reason that the idle changed up and down and then the engine quit - is probably a sensor 'telling' the fuel injection system module that the mixture is wrong...and it's trying to compensate with richer/leaner injection settings... The IDEA of the older Explorers was ok...bodies are fairly tough...
I've got a ford explorer myself i flogged the piss out of it and still runs its a 1999 ford explorer xlt with 2 inch lift and its got 340,599km v6 petrol
Sounded like she was bout to throw a fucking rod or something lol. but if you think about it, it just goes to show that those late 90's 6 cylinders will run forever.
Runs better then my 2000 Explorer xlt. Rotted out headers, weak fuel pump that that takes 4 key cycles before it starts and is fwd due to removing the driveshaft.
sounds like it just needs to be ran and drive some put some new gas in it clean up the motor put a new exhaust on it take it somewhere and get it tune up you should have kept it running if you keep driving and stop pulling trailers with it and stop pulling trailers with it
+BronzeChicken eventually when we need it again thats what will happen. And while we have needed it, weve been using the Ram as the tow vehicle of choice as of now.
I have a 1997 Ford explorer and it has 227000 plus miles on it and it's a 4.0 v6 and it never sounds like that lol y'all have one messed up explorer or y'all pushed it to hard or something I love my SUV and it has never broken and she's a beautiful piece of machinery that I love and cherish forever
Got a 96 ranger with 228k on the clock lol. 4.0 5 speed. I can afford newer but drive this in the winter and drive my heep wrangler in the summer. Its an 07 with 82k on it.
Unidentified X.. Why have to mock and gloat? How do you know they can't afford something else? Not everyone wants to drive a new-er vehicle. And yes, perhaps maybe they can't afford it. What's the big deal? As I said above.. why have to go and mock someone over their choices?
You should pull that pile of dog shit 4.0 out and put a 4bt Cummins in it with a big ass turbo and a manual trans. My 4.0 OHV (which that has the better SOHC) had a bunch of head work, BBK headers, BBK throttle body, a custom dual filter intake, true 3" dual exhaust, and it made 256 whp and 408 lb/ft of torque. My buddy opened a new machine shop right before I left Florida and he said that he would do all the work if I put his shop banner on my windshield. I used to race all the imports and smoke them all the time...lmao
Click bait for sick people who get off on destroying something people built with pride in the day. That day has come and gone so his dad allows him to get people down to buy/rescue cars from him. I would find it funny if one of these rigs that you tear up needlessly to be something that would of made millions of dollars had it been in one piece. Dick Balch Chevrolet got a prison term for putting hammer through windshield of new corvette
Aww poor baby she sounds very sad and sick hope you fix her up again
I’d be willing to bet that knocking noise coming from the engine is the pistons clipping the valves. It probably broke its timing chain guides like all the other 4.0 engines do and jumped time. That would explain the crappy idle and the noises. Engine is toast. It’s amazing it’s even running
This is the pushrod 4.0 not the over head cam 4.0 thanks for listening. And it was bad injectors
Jay Smart oh duh you’re right. The overhead cam came a little later. Unfortunately I had an explorer with the SOHC for my first car and the guides failed at 158,000 miles.... push rods don’t sound so bad all of a sudden smh.
Timing chain stretch, do a compression test sounds like one cylinder is low
I do postmates with one of these, almost 300k miles on the engine, the check engine light is always on, the mpg is shit but its the only car we got, hoping i can make enough on postmates to get a better car.
That’s rough
That’s really rough. 😂
Poor baby... my mom's old '96 Explorer ran perfectly until Thanksgiving 2018 when a squirrel ate the cables and hoses out of it. That's really the only thing wrong with her though.
Happy Thanksgiving 2020 do you still have that explorer ?
@@delcodex8663 Yep. Someday we gonna do an engine rebuild and fix all that. Happy Thanksgiving to you too man.
Dude that thing doinds good! Small block crammed motor at idle
I dare you to try turning the a/c on at idle to see how can she go? Lol
Wow I got a few likes out of that one lol
Joseph Linz I see u in another video again
Does every Ford of this vintage have a damn flashing airbag light?
its a feature not a bug
is this the Explorer that the fuel injection system messed up in
Idk why but i love your videos
How did it get so ragged out?
1998 Ford Explorer V6 4L SOCH 173000 KM (107 497 Miles) no rust still runs fine. my first car and i still have it!
If you want to talk about a self destructing car im bringing up my 2000 Pontiac bonneville! Sounds like my old '98 when the idle sensor blew. Once it warmed up it ran fine.
Seems like a vacuum leak
I swear to god i thought this was a cammed v8 with a custom exhaust (love the videos you post just never watched the ones of the explorer)
It can be the intake manifold or the catalytic converter and it also needs a tune up
NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
Alright, who cammed the explorer?
Run 1qt seafoam through gas and oil, should fix the weird noises, and will make it run 90% better
Advanced Gaming123 I'll take the 2%
That explorer does not sound healthy
Huge vacuum leak or maybe it's not running on all 6?
the plastic intake manifold is cracked. along with a few bad injectors. the combination is pretty much a time bomb if not fixed haha.
...'JB Weld' the intake, wherever it has a major crack...I've also fixed them (if they have smaller air leaks or small cracks) by dribbling in 'Krazy Glue' into the crack!!)...no problem...It's likely a vacuum leak...The reason that the idle changed up and down and then the engine quit - is probably a sensor 'telling' the fuel injection system module that the mixture is wrong...and it's trying to compensate with richer/leaner injection settings...

what was the problem? my 92 is doing this
Zackary Long It was caused from Bad Injectors
I've got a ford explorer myself i flogged the piss out of it and still runs its a 1999 ford explorer xlt with 2 inch lift and its got 340,599km v6 petrol
HighAsHell 420 my civic has 280,000 miles and runs
HighAsHell 420 my 1998 chevy suburban with 402K is still running great everything on the engine is still original except the water pump
I just asked Siri how many miles is 340,599 km. Answer is 211,638 miles. Thanks Siri!
2003 dodge neon 320k miles original engine and tranny
HighAsHell 420 99 grand Cherokee 190k
Sounded like she was bout to throw a fucking rod or something lol. but if you think about it, it just goes to show that those late 90's 6 cylinders will run forever.
We drove this thing for like another year and then sold it to our neighbors who drove it about 8 more months. She was a tough one!
Those engines become quite clunky near 200,000 miles.
Chris Kalkman if you dont do maintenance
Check the vacuum lines! They run rough with bad vacuum
It's a Ford Exploder. I had a 94 Eddie Bauer as my first car when I lived in Fluurda.
Boosted B Series EK I have a 1994 Eddie Bauer. It's my dad's car. It has 127,000 miles on it currently.
Runs better then my 2000 Explorer xlt. Rotted out headers, weak fuel pump that that takes 4 key cycles before it starts and is fwd due to removing the driveshaft.
Damn that boy with gamecock shirt looks like boy I know Waylon Plumley
I drive an Explorer it's 17 years old. The thing with them is something goes bad fix it. It has 113780 miles on it.
This one is my second one.
Fuel pump and fuel filter
+Joseph Louis (Jrod) No, not quite.
sounds like it just needs to be ran and drive some put some new gas in it clean up the motor put a new exhaust on it take it somewhere and get it tune up you should have kept it running if you keep driving and stop pulling trailers with it and stop pulling trailers with it
Lol I don't even see a check engine light on..
Matt burned out years ago
sideburns2009 lmao
Extremely rare olds vista cruiser at 0:43,
That's a Buick Roadmaster wagon I think he said that one is a 92 or 93 but they 2 of them
Had one of those that made that noise, turned out to be a cracked flex plate. Cheap part but labor intensive.
An ESC would fix it, plus any vacuum leaks that are not noticeable
That is one bad misfire check the injectors and coil packs
Had the same problem I think if this was the 4.0 ohv.. less than a $6 fix but I had to junk her
Also would you sell that stero ill pay shipping (if still got it)
If it hasn't fallen apart, shit slap another intake on it from the salvage yard and keep on going
+BronzeChicken eventually when we need it again thats what will happen. And while we have needed it, weve been using the Ram as the tow vehicle of choice as of now.
Ahh, makes sense
Jay Smart or get a caravan with the 3.3, those are crazy cheap and will tow a car .
Get a can of DW 40 and spray the vacuum lines to find the leak!! Idle control valve maybe bad?!
The good ole exploder has a cam iner
I'd say it runs pretty good for something that has been beat to shit it's whole life.
Clean the Idle Air Control valve and it will idle better on cold starts. But Im sure there's plenty of other work that can be done as well
I have a 1997 Ford explorer and it has 227000 plus miles on it and it's a 4.0 v6 and it never sounds like that lol y'all have one messed up explorer or y'all pushed it to hard or something I love my SUV and it has never broken and she's a beautiful piece of machinery that I love and cherish forever
Chance Thompson u can't afford another car, thats more like it
Unidentified X yeah lol

@@brucewrigleysgumchewz4667 i could afford a brand new car. Instead i choose 20 year old vehicles. Its called being smart and saving money.
That thing is running on probably 3 or 4 cylinders
well, on the plus side it now sounds good for a V6 lol
Fuel injectors?
what is that gas pedal lag or bugs hahahaha
I want the explorer with 465,000 miles
Ford Exploder
what are you talking about it self destructing it just has a mean cam
Your exploder is cammed! Noise!!
Atleast 2 not firing
somethings need to be let go. this is one of them. RIP truck!
Built Ford Tough

Boosted B Series EK Cummins always need to Cummins to the repair shop!
The OHV bottom end could take that?
I could use the alternater and the goin down to the stsrtet
worst explorer ever
It's 290 when u put the lead in the trunk!!!
Its a Ford, its supposed to sound like that!Joke
Oh god these things are pos.who uses plastic as a timing chain guide?its a proven scientific fact that heat degrades plastic.engines makes heat.
Legit has my shoes lmao
Typical Ford.
CounterTactik bet your Chevy or dodge wouldn’t even run at 22 years old
Finn Campeau mines 30 years old and runs like a top
Very sad video.
