    I really love that you mentioned “domination” so many trainers focus on letting your dog know you’re the “alpha” but the first thing I learned in my behavior and training class is that domination and being the alpha has no correlation to proper training.

    I've been binge watching your videos for the past few months as I got ready to bring home my first puppy. Gingerbread has now arrived (10 week old yellow Labrador who I am completely smitten with) and she's doing great. Your advice has helped more than I can say. One suggestion - maybe you could make a video on choosing a brand of food for puppies. There is so much advice out there and I'd love your take on it! Thanks again

      Thank you for your feedback! Just like with food for humans, there are many differing opinions on the best food for our dogs. We do not give advice on the type of food you should offer your dog, but we do like to share this resource with you. We feel that it’s a great source of information as you seek to find the best source of nourishment for your dog. Using this as one of your many sources of info is recommended. www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/

    My ten week old lab puppy is quite different to what I'd imagined, and previously experienced. He's very independent, doesn't like to cuddle or be on the couch, and is overly smitten with the family dog, who cannot be bothered with him, and leading the puppy to ignore me. He is not particularly food motivated, and seems bored by toys, but not receptive to praise or attention. He is my world but I am having trouble bonding with him.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your puppy is still young and learning new things and adjusting to his new environment. Keep working on the training and enrichment and you'll see him change with time. He may not ever be a big cuddler but you can strengthen your bond with the tips in this video.

    I bred my dog and am keeping a puppy, they’re $5000 dogs. A rare breed. The havanese is an amazing dog. I bred mine with a toy poodle, my puppy is a havapoo. I’ve already started potty training all the puppies. They go to their new homes next week besides mine. The havanese almost went extinct and I’m glad they’re making a comeback

    Hi, Michelle. I was surprised that you object to placing our hands in the dog's food when they are eating. I have used this technique with 3 Labs we have owned over the years, and it seemed to work out well. Because there were little kids around, we didn't have to worry about one of them reaching for the dog while eating. I never observed any untrusting behavior after training in this way. Of course, the duration of hands in the food bowl was brief, only for a few seconds. Can you please give me some feedback on this topic? Thank you.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Richard! Just like humans would not love this approach when we are eating, it's not nice to do to our dogs either. Studies are now showing that it can make the dog even more reactive because they have reason to believe someone is going to mess with their food. It's better to be like the waiter at Olive Garden: drop off something yummy as you pass by. This increase your dog's trust with you. I am at my wits end. My puppy appears to be congenital with my neighbors, kids. But, not with me. Sasha is a 10 week old golden doodle. She digs her heels in the dirt and will lay flat to keep from walking. I implement positive reinforcements, leash control, etc.

    I just have a 7 weeks old Beagle few days ago and because of the raining everyday and the vaccination isn't complete i trained her potty inside the house with potty pad, and she already does all of her business only after i move her above it twice. Surely i will train her to potty outside too after she get her vaccines, so later she will comfortable to pee or poo whether its inside and outside. Holding urine inside the bladder is dangerous, whether for dog or human and could caused bladder stones or even kidney stones which will lead to renal failure in no times even after the surgery. I don't want my new dog have the same experience as my passed away dog.

    When I first started bringing my Cavalier King Charles on walks she would just sit and refuse to move if it was cold or damp. It was extremely infuriating. She would walk with no problem if it was sunny. It took almost two months to get her to walk.
    Three and a half months later (now) she loves to go walking. I started training her to stop and wait at pedestrian crossings. She stops and waits while sitting with her tail wagging nine out of ten times. If she starts to cross I tell her "wait" and she stops to wait. Then when it's ok to cross I say "ok" and she crossed the road. She keeps glancing me while waiting.
    At first she used to want to greet every single person but she's starting to pass some people without wanting to greet them. She's not pulling as much as she used to and she's stopping to sniff things less over time. Oh and I never multitask on walks.
    On potty accidents. Since I e had her since December 31st 2020 (about three and a half months) she's had about 10 accidents inside. She's been very good to let me know she wants to go out with two months.
    Her last accident was my fault. Two weeks ago She was after going out to the toilet an hour before bedtime so I thought she would be ok. While getting ready to go to bed and turning things off and making sure outside doors were locked she was on my bed and she owed on my bed. But three days ago we were playing with her toys and playing fetch , she stopped and sat at the door letting me know she wanted to go toilet. I left the door open and she owed then came back in and played more.
    While playing she will sit and wait for me to throw her toy and she sits and waits for her food.
    I think having a dog for ten and a half years helps a lot knowing how to train my puppy along with watching various puppy and dog training videos.

    My Border Collie pup Zoë is almost 10weeks. She is getting to where she rolls over and tinkles a little when anyone wants to pet her. Our neighbors have a huge Pitbull that they let run loose all day even when theyre not home. So if I take Zoe outside and he is out, he starts barking at us and gets very close. She gets scared and sits between my legs. I have spoken with neighbors and they refuse to do anything. I really dont know what to do and fear Zoe will become fear reactive down the road

    How do you feel about shock collars?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While aversive tools may serve as a quick fix, they affect the welfare of the animal and lead to some serious behavioral issues in the long run. Gaining an animal’s trust and building a common language between two different species (human and canine) is like building up a bank account. We make deposits into the trust account one positive interaction at a time. Alternatively, we make withdrawals with negative interactions, such as threats, force and punishment. Choosing to teach without coercion is not a denial that coercion is effective in changing behavior. But just because we can, doesn’t mean we should, especially when equally effective, safer and more humane alternatives exist. All behavior serves a function. It is our job to understand why it is happening and how we can help our pups navigate the situation.

      It takes some specialized training for a dog to recognize and help a human who is in distress.

    I love the information you give , but I’d rather see action instead, which means showing examples on what you are talking or teaching about , would be more interesting instead watching videos of how it works instead of of falling asleep in middle of the your long talk of explaining.

      I'm glad you noticed that our TH-cam channel is all about “what to do”. The “how” comes in the courses we offer online! If you’re interested in further direction, extended support and next level training we recommend enrolling.

    I never hit my dog Bar or rubbed his nose in his accident or yelled at him. Therefore we had a very close bonded relationship and he was a great help with my cows!😀

    I had a horrible trainer who was NOT effective in a POSITIVE way!!
    He put a choke collar on the puppy and then proceeded to use it very inappropriately!!
    He was yanking on it harshly!
    It was very inappropriate & the opposite of positive!!
    It was not even normal correction. It was a form of torture to yank on a choke collar!
