You're wrong about Valhalla's modern day I believe. To my knowledge there was never a second solar flare. The main plot was that Desmond's sacrifice worked by the pillars shown by Juno in AC III being complete and strengthening the Earth's electro magnetic shield, aswell as absorbing the energy to dissipate it. But from 2012-2020, the machines have been working too well and making the sphere too strong, causing a global aurora borealis and causing major problems around the world, and even theorized by scientists in game to completely change how life evolves on Earth. So Layla had to find a way to decrease the overcompensation of the Isu machines while also keeping it on so that the Earth is protecting from future flares without killing itself in the process.

I am wrapping up another play-through of Valhalla now and you are exactly right. The defenses that Desmond activated to shield the Earth in 2012 kept running without anyone to hit the off switch and it began causing a new cataclysm of multiple climate changes and disasters due to an ever strengthening magnetosphere and energy build up. Shaun states explicitly though in Valhalla before the Layla final mission to the temple that their are some residual radiations and minor flares compared to before 2012 so they don’t want Layla to turn the shield off but rather adjust it down to like 25% power instead of running overclocked like it is without Layla’s interventions. Glad you said it too. Loved the video otherwise and agree so much that the main story is great and I hope they integrate it more and give it the time and effort it deserves as the fabric that ties these experiences and games together! Thanks

but desmond couldn't let the world burn in AC3, it's quite literally the opposite of what the creed stands for. one of the main tenants the creed:
      Stay the blade of innocents.

I'm at a point with Assassin's Creed, where I believe it needs to end. 3 games. All modern Day. Finish the Assassin/Templar conflict. Make a new IP. I've been playing the series since the first game came out. I remember the fan reactions of AC3's ending. I remember unity being so broken they refunded pc gamers. I remember fan trust being so broken that when syndicate released, the fanbase was so divided on whether it was worth the price. I remember fans cheering when origins was delayed for a year. And then the division of old players and new players with odyssey.
This series has developed so much over the years that it has lost its identity. Fans debate said identity because it's changed so much. The series is dying (see recent controversy with shadows). Let it die, Ubisoft, but do it gracefully. A breakup doesn't have to be hard, we can remain friends and acknowledge that we've changed.
So the question I pose is this: What is Assassin's Creed about? Some would say revisiting a loosely based historical setting. Others, a tale of the Isu involvement of the modern day. Me? Much simpler. Assassin's vs Templars. The past has shaped the setting thus far, absolutely. But especially now, what the series needs (especially should it continue to trek down this RPG path) is not the past but the present. And it works for everyone.
Ubi wants to make RPG games? Great, do it in a NEW IP. Fans of the Assassin's Creed games finally get closure. People want a 3rd person stealthy, 3rd person, action adventure? Again, another new IP. Brand recognition is great and all, but at a certain point, it gets tiring.

Rather than end it they need to start it up again, we haven't had a true AC installment since Syndicate. If they wanted to do 3 titles without having the the core protagonist and antagonist being the Brotherhood vs Templars then make Bayeks story a trilogy which would make sense since he started the damn thing and ancient Egypt is an awesome setting along with unending storylines because of the real history attached to the region.
Instead we got a Spartan soldier descendant of Gods going up against Cultist who worship your crazy sibling and a Viking who faces Medieval English Lords plus a glorified overpriced DLC. A DLC which has its bright parts but in most part is boring as all get out.

  • @Telamonian

I have been a long time ac fan, I think that they should only implement a modern day if they plan on actually concluding the modern day story lines that they choose to make. Ubisoft seems to have a hard time doing this especially with the Juno arc. AC1 is the quintessential formula for an assassins creed game, the sci fi elements and history blended so well together. We needed motivation for reliving past ancestral memories which directly influenced the modern day narrative. If they choose to remove modern day altogether they should just create a different ip and start over but unfortunately beating a dead horse is more profitable for Ubisoft that’s why we have the rpg games.

You let me down as soon as you started explaining the story. Why does everybody talk about the historical accuracy part when its meant to be a game/adventure about some cool idea? Historical accuracy is about respect to cultures and times, i.e. the way things were back then. It's literally impossible to know exactly, to the last squirrel breaking wind, what and how things happened hundreds or thousands of years ago. And that's what the story is about. They just added this extra layer, which actually is not pseudo scientific, for the most part, however fantastical it may sound

So personally I am more interested in the modern story (1, 2, BH, revelations, Black flag, I skipped most of the rest or haven’t had time to play them) than I am in most of the past story lines, they “”could”” have done so much with the story especially with Watch dogs were we actually see a mission that’s linked to the AC modern story of black flag.
Sadly yet again studios see a thing happen and instead of seeing 1+1=2 they suddenly decided that 1+1= bananas! All it takes is a bit of imagination and creativity and you can tell a great story but with films and games nowadays ied accept them to make an “”well it wasn’t awful?”” Project.

Its not hard i think people woulda like to see the differences between the assassins in the modern era compared to the past eras how they do things differently! The modern day doesnt have to be open world just simple linear levels but with different paths

AC was bever meant to be 100% accurate historically, science fiction was there from the start
But people chose to shit themselves anyway when in RPG trilogy you could buy pegasus skin for your horse and wear armor from Final Fantasy, because people in general are fucking stupid
Modern day was good from the start until Rogue, then got good again in Odyssey, so I think they should continue it further, because now we have an actual Isu living in modern times and Adam & Eve thing with Desmond and Layla, so it would be a waste if they would cut it now
Also, sun is not blowing up again in Valhalla, you got that wrong - they are just undoing what Desmond did, and what he did is a permanent shield around Earth that started to get dangerous for the planet and that's why they need to deactivate it

There wasn’t a 3rd solar flare, only the 2 that occurred in 75,000 BCE and 2012. When Desmond activated the Global Aurora Borealis Device, he also inadvertently activated other Isu Temples, including the Yggdrasil super computer, and Basims consciousness. Basim overclocked the intensity of the Global Aurora Borealis Device to the point of damaging Earth. He needed to force the Assassins, specifically Layla, to come to the Yggdrasil chamber and lower the intensity back to safe levels. When Layla did that, she also released Basim, giving him the Staff of Eden.

I’m a really big fan of the Modern Day Storyline but I’m also not blind to the fact that since AC4 Ubisoft *HASN’T HAD THEIR HEARTS IN IT & HAVE ONLY BEEN BEGRUDGINGLY CONTINUING THE MODERN DAY NARRATIVE PURELY OUT OF AN OBLIGATION TO IT’S AC AUDIENCE.*
A cut *BUT MOST CERTAINLY CANON* Modern Day Cutscene from AC Mirage indicates that they are gonna have a massive thousand year long time skip to use as their “narrative out” to justify completely abandoning the Modern Day Storyline in entirety since it’s been over 1000 years and everything and everyone that was around back then is long dead. All of the potential Modern Day stories are now skipped over so narratively at that point and it’s just been too long for anything that was set up in the past games to even matter anymore.
The modern day AC story was conceived from an old Ubisoft Regime that wanted to tell a multi game story interconnected narrative about the past & present converging but as time went on one by one like a Developer Team of Theseus that team was replaced and completely phased out and all that’s left is the hold over narrative afterthought Obligation to add a modern narrative in the Current AC games & now Ubisoft has slowly but surely worked their way towards finally giving themselves the narrative justification to completely abandoning it entirely & finally moving on to solely dedicate their efforts to developing & writing just one story, instead of splitting their focus with dual narratives where as of late one of those said duel narrative’s has been treated like it was complete after thought to make sure that they nailed their other main narrative.
When assassins Creed infinity platform launches, it’s going to relegate all of modern day narrative elements into being just a generic Abstergo Animus menu that only serves as *A HUB MENU* for all of Ubisoft’s AC Games old & new.. Then later on down the line probably soon after Shadows Release will be phased out entirely when that obviously phoned in Modern Day endeavour *obviously by design* eventually fails.. 😒

Why the modern day storyline was abandon? I'm pretty sure ubisoft management realise AC is a fat cow for milking and the original modern day storyline is ending with a modern day AC soon. If there is no modern day conflict, there is need to enter the animus so they tried changing animus into a gaming platform in AC BlackFlag and the backlash force afterward force ubisoft start off a rebooted modern day storyline which is overly convoluted with no stake so they can continue milking the franchise till its dead which will be AC Shadow.
Ubisoft don't care about plot, they just want you pay to them $100++ yearly till they can't.
