I think this ending shows why odin failed with eivor yet loki succeeded with basim. Loki was a manipulator, yes, and wanted basim to be more selfish, but it was out of a genuine desire for him to pursue his own happiness and goals for self improvement, even at the cost of others. Odin, meanwhile, just wanted eivor to become just like him. He just barked his demands and didn't want to understand what made them and humanity tick. Loki, as Nehal, helped basim on his journey. Odin just buzzed in eivor's ear in each memory corridor and acted like that made him why eivor was successful.
You ever see that drawing of a horse that gets progressively worse? Thats Valhalla, but the middle is the only bad drawing. The start and *maybe* the end are the good drawings.
This, except the game is supposed to be Horse 12 but the animal in the drawing is actually an unicorn who in the end refuses to became a horse in a Horse game, without any reason
@@wolfchadaverageusenjoyerza8288 Wouldn't make much sense for Eivor to become a Hidden One considering her responsibilities, character and sense of belonging and purpose the Raven clan already gave her. For Edward it made sense since he hit rock bottom and had to build his life up again while Eivor already build up one without the Hidden Ones through the events of Valhalla.
@@wolfchadaverageusenjoyerza8288 No necessarily. It's about the world of Assassin's Creed. The truth is that the REAL plot of Assassin's Creed was always the modern-day. They are the Assassins and Templars going back to relive these past people (often Assassins and Templars) who helped build the world as it is. And often, the Pieces of Eden that were central in their story, then becomes coveted in modern day. There are way more themes, and it's way more complicated than I just said, but in reality, it's not about the Templars and Assassins, but about way more. However, the connection to these two groups is still very essential. So that means that you can make whatever story you want, as long as it still connects to Assassins and Templars. And this game actually connects to many different games in the franchise, and Eivor indirectly influences the creation of the Templar Order, and (almost)directly becomes the reason why The Order of Ancients went extinct.
I enjoyed all of valhalla. Even all the weird stuff I played AC 1 the enitre game than played AC Valhalla and both games flows very well with each other and valhalla actually compliments AC 1 in many missions.
~8:55 The Jinn is not a representation of Loki, but of his trauma from being tortured and confined; note how in the hologram scene, a figure looms over Loki in exactly the same way the Jinn looms over Basim.
What i appreciate about Eivor is that it shows that even the Isu, with all their faults, have their own capacity to improve and enjoy life with the very people they created and basim is a showcase, at the moment at least, that they have their place in the world if they wish to grasp it. Eivor subtly had grown out of Odin thanks to embracing humanity both the good and the bad through his own journey of leadership and the responsibilities that come from it and the alliances made thelughtout the game. It was a slog, but one that with nuance comes together in a way that makes journey worth it.
Still sad that after the Valhalla arc Eivor talks like an atheist in the final Hampshire arc. She lost all faith in a Valhalla and just lives the life she had left. Even the ending missions where Eivor is giving her final goodbyes she talks in a dismissive manner towards her old religion.
God I wish Eivor became a Hidden One, especially when he uses his hidden blade against Odin instead of the axe. I know it wouldn’t have made sense in terms of Eivor’s motivations but fuck it’d be cool. On the contrary I also do think Eivor NOT being or looking like a Hidden One was the perfect weapon to dispatch the Order - they would never see him coming, until they see the blade.
I really really think we need a mod that attempts to remove all the filler out of Valhalla as seamless as possible so it’s a 30 hour or so story. Would make the game infinitely more replayable to me
If this game had new game plus, You could just fly through the story, not half to spend hours gather materials to build up your town. They to fix to colour pallet of England so it doesn’t look so orange, add more content to Norway I think this game could have been great.
This scene is my favourite in the game and almost redeemed it for me... If only you could finish the hidden one's quest before this scene. Because the conclusion of that completely undoes any character development that happens in this scene
Great analysis! I guess my subconscious noticed the similarities between the Yggdrasil and the Animus Arm from the film, but never really made the conscious connection. I would absolutely love to see this used in a game as our connection to some new chracter.
In author and writer's circles, the term 'kill your darlings' exists for a reason. The peaple who worked on the narrative for this game clearly didn't follow this. Assassin's Creed Valhalla was too long, and should have been cut down.
You ain’t wrong…. This game was a slog. The only parts I liked were the beginning, and the Ending. It’s just a shame they give you choices, then rip them all way at the end, since they only made on ending. Male Eivor will always be canon imo. No other god is gender swapped, it certainly makes no sense to make the “All Father” a female….who in their right mind thought that was a good idea? Give credit to a lot of modern criticism of Hollywood. They were too lazy to include the male protagonist ending. I love Kassandra, she is the exact opposite of Eivor, one has a purpose, the other was made for brownie points. Don’t give the player choice, if it doesn’t affect the game. That rule applies to Alexios.
