  • Simply do the following:
    Right-click the file, then select "Properties".
    Next click on the "Details" tab, then click on the "Date Taken" field and the field becomes editable
    (note: the field will not be editable if the file is "Read-only" - so uncheck "Read-only" and start over).
    Update the field to have the desired (i.e., correct) date. Works in Windows 10 and in Windows 11. See below for a way to change the time!
    NOTE: please select 1080p video quality (via gear icon or via pulldown) for best viewing.
    MS Photos can change both the "Date Taken" field's date and the "Date Taken" field's time. To do so: open Photos, double-click the photo, right-click on the photo, select "File info" from the menu, and then select whatever date and time you want. TH-cam video for using MS Photos: • Video
    Attribute Changer freeware (or other apps) also can be utilized if a wider range of options is desired (ex: change the date taken time, change the date modified, etc.).
    Video: ScreenBits and ActivePresenter 7 (record screen, mouse pointer, cursor effects, text, mouse clicks). Shown is “Windows 10 Home” version 1803.
    Music: TH-cam (So Long.mp3)

    Important: the field will not be editable if the file is "Read-only" - so uncheck "Read-only" in "Properties". Also, please 'Like' this video if it was helpful to you (or would be to others).

    Thanks, man. You've saved me a ton of nerves. I hate when the date confuses and suddenly all your photos are taken on one day.

    Very useful! I would only add that the procedure for multiple files only worked for me if all the files selected had **the same** initial date (in my case there were a few hundred files with four different dates, and when I initially selected all the files, I was unable to edit the date)

    Can someone tell if photo date has been changed or not?

    MS Photos can change both the "Date Taken" field's date and the "Date Taken" field's time. To do so: open the Photos app, double-click the photo, right-click on the photo, select "File info" from the menu, and then select whatever date and time you want. This works for a single photo - not sure if there is a way to do it for multiple photos. Note: I'm using Windows 10 Home, version 1909, OS build 18363.900. UPDATE 06may21: TH-cam video for using MS Photos: th-cam.com/video/nlpv2gS4TUY/w-d-xo.html Note: still works for Windows 10 Home, version 20H2, OS build 19042.928.

      This doesn't work for me. Either it's broken in 2021 or it has a problem with photos on a network file share. But thanks for the reminder about doing it in Windows Explorer, especially for multiple files. Sometimes exiftool is just too much work for a quick change :)

    Nice video, except I want to know how to change the TIME a photo was taken. THAT's what is really important to me. I did not see that here.

    This doesn't change the date under general! The date is still the same . Can anyone assist?

    • @davemdks
      @davemdks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you need to change the fields (i.e., Created, Modified, or Accessed) listed under the General tab (as opposed to the Date Taken field listed under the Details tab) then maybe Attribute Changer (or similar) app is what you need to use?

    can you do the same thing for time?

    • @davemdks
      @davemdks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are trying to change the time for a single photo (not multiple photos), then there is a way using MS Photos. See the Description section above or watch my short video: th-cam.com/video/nlpv2gS4TUY/w-d-xo.html

    What about for a folder?

    • @davemdks
      @davemdks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure if you can change a folder's date via Windows - but you could give Attribute Changer (freeware app) a try (note: I have not used the app - but it claims to be able to change a folder's dates, times, etc.). Hope this helps.

    you would be awsome if you raised the camara so the top header was visable thats where the action is, i cant see whats going on here, just a bunch of blank page. :(

      This was the first TH-cam video that I ever made. I found a solution to a problem and thought I would share it (same for all my videos). I've tried to zoom in on the action more in my subsequent videos. Thanks for the input!

    Is it possible to modify videos when no creation date is listed?

    • @davemdks

      @@davemdks I have a compilation of videos where they are only modified. I am the type of person who believes something must be created first in order for it to be modified. Is that not correct?

    • @davemdks
      @davemdks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tinadean2369 I'm not sure why there is no creation date. If you need to change date fields (i.e., Created, Modified, or Accessed) listed under the General tab (as opposed to the Date Taken field listed under the Details tab) then you could use Attribute Changer (or a similar) app. Note: cutting and pasting a file should cause there to be a creation date - you could do that (but the date would end up being the current date). Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
