Apple will not allow you to download large amounts of your pics at one time. They make it a pain in the ass on purpose.

is this what it is, its driving me nuts. download just keeps going back and forth.

One thousand files is the most you can download at a time. It will give you a zip folder and you have to wait a few minutes. Take it out of your downloads and put it on your desktop to open it. Then save it to your external hard drive.

I do have a couple of questions:
- Do the files stay in the same format (HEIF, HEVC/HEIF) when moved to the computer?
- Can the files be returned to the cloud the same way that they were transferred, using the same steps?

andddd if you delete pics from your phone, poof their gone from "cloud", cloud is nothing more than a syncing device, .totally useless
I don't use iCloud but there are some services that allow you to keep photos, files, etc in the cloud even when these are removed from the original source. But this has to be setup in the cloud service ahead of it. Some other services also keep deleted files in a cloud trash bin when thes are deleted from source or directly in the cloud.
I do think it is important for people to understand that cloud services are merely for syncing and can be used for backup in cases where the original source suddenly crashes or during hardware upgrades but in both cases data can be lost partially or in its entirety if the correct steps are not properly follow.
My brother lost tons of pictures from a recent trip he made and then removing/deleting the files from his iPhone thinking all would be in iCloud. Worst part, he blamed me for his mistake. I guess that is what big brothers are here for.

When I selected one photo and click the download it saved it in my recent file. It didn’t create a iCloud folder like in your videos. Do you know why that’s the case?
This doesn’t download anything! it just takes a “copy” the original files still stay in place I’ve tried this to free up storage iCloud still saying not enough storage???

In 1.5 hours I transferred about 1000 photos and videos that I have been wanting to do for a long time. I noticed a few things, If the download folders do not open automatically, it may be a large batch being downloaded and you can open the Windows download pull-

Great video Daniel without all the mumbo jumbo. Very precise and to the point. One question I have is when my photos were put in the Icloud folder, the photos are not showing, just descriptions like "img_223." How do I change that so I can see the actual photo without guessing what I am clicking on? Thanks again!!

This really helped alot !! As this been a big struggle of mines but one question when I pick what I want down load it down loads as a zip file there I am clicking on everything as hard tell what it is as it all looked like an orange cone, I click on it , picture will open up video but safe name goes back to looking like an orange cone says zip file. There for I can’t save it to video or photos

I have the same question as Zich Ragland. When my photos were transferred from iCloud to my computer, it displays IMG_123 and not the actual photo, unless I click on each IMG icon. How can the photos be displayed without having to click on each of the IMG_ icons?
Once you have downloaded the photos to that file it makes in your mac, can you them import them into Lightroom so they are catalogued?

Everything is ok but I have a question...
The actual creation dates of the downloaded photos or videos are deleted and it is as if they were created on the downloaded date.
Do you have a suggestion for this?
Photos are memories and documents, but their original dates are deleted when you do it this way :(

Just transfer directly from your phone to your computer then, it saves the dates in your photos app on Windows

if you also include the process for windows 10/11 that would be great. i have problem the file is zip in my windows.
What if you have 73,000 photos? We uploaded to external hard drive but now they won't loan on my Mac.It only shows 57,000 now. My son transferred them and he isn't for sure what happened with the rest unless it duplicates.
I have +6000 files but when I try to download they say I can’t download. Is there a way to download over 1000 photos at once

Great for a LIMITED amount of pictures, but if you have many tens of thousands of photos then this method doesn't work at all unless you want to do this manually in many many operations as your new career. Using the "select all" feature greets you with a "too many photos" message or something like that.
Isn't there an automated way to do it with 3rd party software?
Appreciate the video but I'm working on a Windows PC and I need JPEG format. Changing this is currently possible if you click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner of iCloud. However, when I select multiple pictures to download as JPEG, they do not convert from the HEIC format. Any thoughts?

I am following your instructions but its not downloading the photos in order. Is there a way to download the images in the order they are displayed in icloud (Or in the order of when they were added to icloud? When I unzip the downloaded file it just renames all the individual photos with random file names which is pointless and annoying.

I have 40,000 photos the method you used only applies to less than 1000 photos, how do you download all photos if more than 1k photos?

Dose not workfor me on windows! I take all my photos in .RAW BUT when I do the things in this video I can only get my photos in JPG and not in .RAW!
the first couple of pictures I downloaded were with the date they were taken, but then when I continued with the other pictures and recordings, they were downloaded on the date I downloaded them, it's a windows pc, does anyone know how to download them from the right date?
Hi Daniel, Thank you for sharing. What happens to the photos on the iphone after you download them to your computer? Do they automatically deleted from your iphone ? If you wanted to keep the photos from icloud in the new folder on the desktop, will it be safe to delete them from icloud storage, in order to open up memory on your icloud??
If you keep iCloud>Photos enabled, they should remain on iCloud. Test it by downloading a couple photos and see if they remain in the cloud. You are not technically “transferring” photos when you download them. It depends on your phone settings. Example, if you have Photo Stream enabled, etc.

My videos I downloaded from my iCloud is just not playing. There’s a folder or explorer symbol next to them and when I click on any of the videos I’ve downloaded it brings me to a list of weird stuff. But it makes no sense because the videos play normal on my iCloud when I log in on my computer. I’m hoping you can help with this.

Hi Daniel, Maybe my MacBook is too old (it’s a Mac OS X from 2011 - yep, it’s ancient)… Following your instructions, I get into the Cloud but where my dashboard should show the various icons, it’s just white space, but shows “iCloud” top left & my name top right just like on your computer.
I’ve tried everything I can think of but can’t get to my photos. HELP PLEASE!

I did this on a non apple pc and its a little bit different. It is downloading but its a zip file that doesn't show the size of the file. Is this normal?

On Windows, it is only possible to select up to 1000 photos. Only nothing happens, up to a 100 photos works relatively OK and then they are directly downloaded to your download folder as a ZIP file and not individual files. The claim that this procedure works on any platform is not true unfortunately!🤨
Absolutely the same issue I'm having. I'm trying to sort out my wife's icloud storage and all I can say is thank goodness for the simplicity of Android! Limited to 1000 at a time, extremely slow, keeps resetting download. What a pain! Worst part is if you've exceeded your storage it starts uploading as you're trying to clear. What I was looking for was a select all, download, delete all. Looks like that's not possible.
@@deankara5994 Hi I installed iCloud for Windows and it becomes a part of Windows Explorer. Than it acts like OneDrive and you can download everything to a local or network harddrive. The download stopped a few times which you can proceed but it took some days to completely download all in the iCloud. Hope this helps you out.
