Just wanted to say thank you for making this video. I had had a real SNES Classic for a few years that I used sparingly and gave to a niece; I tried to buy another for my son's birthday and ended up with one of these knock offs. All the glitches and bizarre menu with the instruction booklets, all of it matches what you show here. The long load time to just to boot up, distorted audio, even the serial number on the box is a CU. I also noticed my knock off also got hot after it was plugged in for a while. Luckily I just came into this unit a few days ago and can still return it. But buyer beware - there are apparently a ton of these floating around out there.
I m glad to help. I wish I made this video a couple of years earlier. I also have a similar video for NES
Wow, I just came across this video. I bought my SNES Classic brand new from GameStop when it released like 6 years ago. But i’m glad to see folks like you exposing the fakers
Thank You. You got it at good time when they were available new everywhere
I grew up on the SNES. Recognized the controllers were fake INSTANTLY.
SNES Classic recreated the look of the controllers 100% exactly.
Not 100%, older controllers were made with better plastics and overall quality.
Huge help to me. Recently bought a fake and noticed it seemed “off” before I even plugged it in and immediately went online to check if it was fake. Luckily was able to get a refund and used this info to get a legitimate one on eBay!
Very thorough and helpful - thanks a ton!
I m really glad to help !!!
Damn, seriously thank you for both making this video since it's very rare when people talk about these ones, and especially for mentioning the lack of modding capabilities.
It's no secret that people love these consoles for those capabilities, and for that to not be available, even if they're like 75% cheaper, huge turn off
Scammers buy these for like $20 from China and sell for 100-150. And that price you can easily find original that was slightly used
I had a real one that I gave to my brother, but later decided that I wanted to replace it.
Bad idea! It was a fake! Know how I know? Fakes cannot be modded. I booted up the fake and the games menu was off, the games themselves were in widescreen and took time to load, the controllers felt way off in my hand, and it had MAJOR input lag.
I returned it via eBay's return policy and the USPS put the return sticker on the box, and the faker actually sent me a text message cussing me out. I could not help but laugh since eBay covered the refund he didn't pay and he got reported with the evidence he oh-so-kindly gave me.
Most of consoles on ebay, amazon are fake now and they even copy pictures from sellers who sold authentic ones
@alegreviews I'd say this happened 3 or so years ago, right around the same time you posted this video. I recognized the fake's UI when I saw it in your video. It was the same as the one I had.
The lag was so bad that I could not make any progress in the opening stage of Mega Man X, a game that I could almost play in my sleep.
Thank you for this!!!
I watched this video first, before I ordered one. So I knew what I'd be looking for. I even messaged them and said please do not send me a fake unit. But... Sure enough, I received a fake, and immediately requested a refund. After a lot of protesting from them, I finally got my refund, so I could get a real one. I have to say, EVERYTHING sanity the one I received seemed so SO CHEAP, it was unbelievable. The power switch didn't even feel like a proper switch, it felt like switching paper inside or something! But I'm glad I watched your video first!!
Now they are begging me to leave them a good review and positive feedback...!
Where you get the fake?
The ways to know when it is original are as follows, first the original comes with a Nintendo power adapter and it also comes with a code on a piece of paper that should be identical to the numbers on the back of the console. Also, the original has a white label on the USB cable that is sometimes written in Japanese, English, and Spanish.
all this mentioned in the video. Overall a good summary. I would add grayish connectors on controllers and distinct black stripes on the box ( fakes boxes are worse print quality ).

Over a hundred dislikes from Mercari, Offer Up, and eBay.
Thanks for this man, I wrote down a list of different points in this video, and it really helped me find out the classic I got today was legit.
I am happy to be helpful)))). Enjoy the console
Sweet nice man. I’m actually finding one myself. Where did you get the SNES Classic? Amazon, Walmart.com, etc?
@@Coldiplier50 in 2017-2018-early 2019 these were sold by Target, Walmart, Gamestop, BestBuy and Amazon - these were the official dealers, they all sold out around early 2019, so now you can only buy from resellers on eBay, Amazon and Walmart (Walmart allows other sellers to sell on its platform like Amazon). Many people on these 3 platforms sell fakes - so be careful.
Or is it?
Ended up getting a fake but seller is letting me return and get refunded so next time I buy one I’m asking a lot of questions and for picture of gameplay and serial numbers
Hmm this is crazy! Folks really gotta be careful out there on the resale market.
you are right. I would say at least half of these on ebay, amazon and walmart are fakes. That's without even mentioning those that are cheaper fakes that looks further away from the original.
@@alegreviews it's mind-blowing. I know about the off-brand fakes i didn't think china would make them this good lol. They probably have new batches now smh

I've seen this kind of fakes since 2018. Some of them work better than the one on the video. But I overall I would always suggest getting an original to get the best experience without annoying freezes and glitches
@@alegreviews 2018 😮 damn. Most-likely updated them by now. This is not good! Scammers are selling them as real. Sucks for folks that got scammed.
Imagine if they could get them to work exactly like the original people would not matter
Very helpful info! 👍 Thanks so much for making this video. Now I know the little details to look for when shopping for the SNES Classic.
Glad to help
I didn't hear him say it but maybe I missed it. Another way to spot a fake is with the box art for Starfox 2. I the authentic, it has some of the characters on it. For the fake, it's just an image of a planet.
I don't trust scammers that uses the Google pictures of the real snes classic edition and sells the fake snes console.
Super Metroid on the poster is spelled 'Metrojd' on the fakes with a 'J' instead of an 'I'.
That's a good one. I am sure I missed more of such misspellings.
Not on all of them. I have a fake that is spelled correctly.
I was able to buy a legitimate SNES Classic on eBay a few weeks back because of your video. Thank you for putting this on TH-cam!
I’m glad I helped. Chinese sellers of cheap fakes are all over ebay and amazon. It’s getting harder and harder to get an original one
I bet it wasn’t cheap
Wow! Thanks for sharing this video. Just found out my snes mini is FAKE! Damn offerup lol. It all makes sense now since Mega Man X has a glitch, and I tried modding my console and it doesn't work!!
I feel better about the SNES classic I scored from someone off Ebay a few years ago for like $40. Now I know its def authentic!!
yes, there was time when you could buy it below retail price. Sounds crazy but now it is good if you get a used one below 150$
@@alegreviews Yeah that is pretty wild. Considering I got mine at the beginning of 2019 that is quite a jump in value for it!
I just got a used one for 100$
It's real I checked everything not a fake the seller did add a few extra games including Chrono trigger which is cool
I didn't get the box but who cares and they kept the Nintendo HDMI and gave me a generic one but for 100$ who cares about that
I personally bought a 15 FT HDMI cable on Amazon for the console and don’t even use original ones
I immediately went and checked my my box and serial no. and print and everything! I’m all good!
Very useful! Thanks for the video! 👍
I am glad to help you
I bought one on eBay. I hadn’t opened it yet and was looking through TH-cam. I watched your video and got home and opened mine. It was a counterfeit. I’m returning it now.
Who cares, same thing!
Glad I could help!
@@WheeledHamster can’t add games on the fake one
Sadly I wish I had seen this video sooner. I bought a fake one. But I'm stuck with it because I'm not going to be dishonest and sell it as authentic.
return it to your seller if you still can. I hope you at least bought it cheap. I saw sellers on ebay sell fakes for around 120-150, and they cost like 40-50 in China with delivery to US address. On Amazon and Walmart people sell a lot of fakes too.
@@alegreviews I was suckered for $119. EBay should crack down and not allow them to be sold. After watching your video I went on eBay and the majority are fake. I saw one guy's post claiming his is authentic supposedly sitting on his shelf for years he claims. What a lying weasel.
@@alegreviews I'd return it but I've had it for over a year. It's too late to return it even though I haven't opened it.
@@GeorgeNadaYT It won't be collectible, but see how bad it is, some you can play and saving works you may enjoy it or gift to someone.

Thank you!!! I was about to purchase a fake one for 80 bucks!!!. Thanks to you i will not be scammed!!!
I am glad I helped !
Thank you for this. Because of your video it made me question the authenticity of the one I bought and I sent it back and got a full refund and looked for the real ones on eBay and found one. Had it not been for your video I’d have had a fake one

Gladly I bought mine around the time the final shipments came around. I called my local GameStop to ask if they had any available and they did.

Ended up getting a fake one on Amazon passed off as real. I didn't even realize fakes one existed. I contacted Amazon. Returning the system and getting a full refund. I am so disappointed in myself for not realizing it. Stupid 3rd party sellers/scalpers.
I would suggest buying on eBay, just buy from someone with good pictures that show a real one
@@alegreviews That's exactly what I did. They took pictures of the barcode, the menu, and even added more games. Cost me less then how much this counterfeit cost me. The real one shipped today, I'm going to return the fake one via UPS Store. Moral of the story? Don't buy SNES Classic off of Amazon, especially from a third party seller. I didn't even know fakes for this thing existed. I got lucky that my NES Classic Edition I ordered off of Amazon brand new wasn't fake.
@@SpiritOfHalloween31 all authorized retailers sold out about 2 years ago. Now you can only buy from collectors or used at a high price or fake that don't work well.
Fakes don't really work that well and ruin the experience, and on authentic ones can have games added which is a huge deal breaker because 21 games is probably not enough for everybody
@@alegreviews Yeah. I did pay somewhat of a high price now still, but at least I'm going to be getting a real one now.
@@alegreviews Finally got my real one this week! I never want to see another fake one in real life ever again.
If the demanded was so high, why Nintendo dont built more console, now all sellers sales fake one.
They should have made a rerun on these in 2020.
In 2017-2018 these could found for $60 on ebay open box/played 1-2 times. Gamestop/Target/BestBuy stores could have dozens in stock.
I was at bestbuy once, they had like 130 ps1 mini at $40, manager asked me how many I wanted - I bought like 50 pieces of those. Same with Sega mini. Now everything is over $100
You don't even have to carefully inspect the physical packaging and console design, just boot it up and you can tell from the UI that it's fake. The box arts are all wrong, the background doesn't scroll, everything is stretched in game, it's just a sad imitation.
Yep, you are right. Fakes are indeed sad imitations
Thanks for the video, one comment/suggestion though---you really move around the objects alot and kind of "man handle" them. Helped alot though when it came to purchasing a real unit on fb marketplace! Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion. I noticed that too when I was watching the video. That's something you do not always notice when you do it, but later on after the video is already done. I will try to pay more attention to that. Thank You. And I am glad that I helped you.

@@alegreviews Although I had to pay almost $200 for a real one, I would much rather not use a fake!

My version of mega man x reverts to the highway stage after any 2 mavericks are defeated, there is no way to save aside from the suspend points, slowdown and control lag hampers almost all the action games, the rewind and move delete functions don't work from the suspend point menu, the power cord does not hold tightly in the system, and I've only had it for 9 hours. I'm sure by the time I return this pos, I will find even more problems😝 I wish I had known there were this crafty of knock-off consoles before shopping... sigh smh
This was incredibly helpful, thank you!
Yep. I m happy to help
ótimo vídeo! tenho 2 Snes Mini aqui e fui até conferir eles quando assisti seu vídeo.

I have 2nd knockoff console. When you loaded Mario kart save, there is a percentage load of the save in the bottom left corner as game loads up normally. You didn’t press wrong button, after it loads up it will cut to where you save regardless of what you press on menu.
I see. Well, I guess I was expected instant save loads as in the original. But I've seen some fakes doing it much faster than the one in the video
Damn, well at least I know I got the fake one for Christmas
Thanks for this video !!
That's is a very good clone. The best I've seen so far.
I've seen better that save faster and do not lag and freeze.
One of the biggest tells of a fake is 1) hackchi doesn't work, and 2) at least for my fake snes classic, it wouldn't retain save files when you unplugged it.
Yes, fakes use completely different software incompatible with hakchi. Yours isn’t even the best one as it does not keep the save.
I can always easily tell by font of the serial number
@@alegreviews the software on my fake one was ripped from Nintendo and looked totally legitimate. The shell was high quality with no tells other than the serial number.
No completely different software. Just looks similar, gonna be some misspellings in games, also not gonna last, soldering and everything is bad, glitches, controller buttons not so good, even graphics is worse. Fake SNES is like $10 thing wholesale in China.
@@alegreviews yeah I have a real one now, I am just saying the menu was exactly the same and there were no tells in the software outside of the fact that it can't save and hackchi can't write to it. I bought it knowing it was probably a fake for a Raspberry pi case.
@cgwworldministries83 that’s expensive for just a case). Fakes are usually have different in legal notices, language, settings. Saves often do not work or take long, often disappear when after you turn it off. Menu will still be a bit off, size of squares, fonts and misspelling for game titles, colors are usually off, graphics is somehow worse a bit.
Damn, just ordered one and I think it's a fake one. Didn't know they had fake ones smh. Mine hasn't arrived yet, but If it is fake in which I believe it is, I will send it back because I want to be able to add games!

I bought one on eBay that’s coming in a few days, I will check if it is fake but luckily the seller has free 30 day returns and they pay for the return shipping so it doesn’t really matter if it’s fake or not
it might be a bit of a waste of time if it is and you have to spend time to go to USPS to return it. At least you can quickly identify it with this video
I got myself the US version recently, but it's missing the power adapter as well as the poster. Everything else looks legit though. After a little bit of digging, my SNES was apparently one of the consoles distributed by Active Boeki K.K. It was written on the box near the serial number. They were the official distributor for the SEA and Middle East region and their package didn't include the adapter and poster for some reason (in fact it was specifically written that they didn't include the adapter). Shame, but at least the console itself plays great.
oh wow, I've never heard about those. I know US version as in the video, then there are also EU and AU versions that don't have power adapter, and also Super Famicom (Japanese version) that also has no power adapter. All NES and SNES outside of US have no power adapters.
Did you console look like US version or differently. Because EU/AU/Japanese version looks very differently
@@alegreviews Yeah I bought the US model, because it's the cheapest one I found lol, online prices went crazy. I watched a few unboxing videos from fellow buyers in my country and they also didn't include the poster and adapter (although the cable itself was there). I was kinda worried that mine was a replica but from looking at your video as well as other sources it looks like my SNES is indeed an original version.
I found the info about the distributor on google, you can also look them up. I was a bit dissapointed because I want the complete package, but oh well, could be worse.
@@tereesha EU version can be found cheaper, but hard to find
@@tereesha I’m in the UK and my SNES mini didn’t come with an adapter, which I was expecting. It says adapter not included right on the box. It was exactly the same for my NES mini. Maybe they stopped supplying adapters and posters to keep up with the demand for the time. These consoles sold like hot cakes. I got mine pretty late in their production runs.
UK/EU, AU and Japanese NES/SNES don’t come with adapters. Only US version comes with them
thanks for this, I wish I found this before I bought my first fake.... ended up wasting over $4oo on 2 fakes...
I wish I made this video years ago. I could help so many people. Return the fakes if you can
Do you know how much the authentic one weighs? One Ebay seller here is claiming 190g
I just bought one of these recently off ebay and it turns out it was a fake one. Will see if I can get my money back. Thanks a lot for this comparison (I had suspicions, but this makes it obvious).
Chinese factories do not make them look exactly the same, so it relatively easy to spot a fake if you compare or watch this video. I am glad to be of help to you.
This video saved me from buying a fake on eBay. eBay has so many of these fake’s listed it’s insane.
Amazon, walmart, offerup, etc as well
If they are going to be making a knockoff, why not just go all out and make it 1:1? It is easy to just copy the SNES menu system, the box they can easily make it 1:1, whats the point of the controllers having just the 1 dot, instead of 1 dot and 2 dots? They could for sure make it 1:1 and no one will ever know the difference without opening the console. I never understood this with these knock offs lol.
I think they are just lazy)). 1:1 SNES knock off does not exist. Some may be a bit better without so much lagging and freezing and colors a bit closer. But none are even closely exactly the same. I think I've only seen an HDMI cable that is very close to 1:1 copy, I've seen fake box that is closer to original (still not 100% same print quality), the rest is all easy to figure.
Damn it. I didn’t know they had legit looking fakes. 😔
Some are completely different. Some are like this or even a bit closer loking

Anyone who buys one of these consoles nowadays being said to be new, knows they are being deceived as they are no longer manufactured since 2018.

And, what happens if you connect the fake to a PC? Does it open up like a flash drive?
I think some fakes can "take" original controllers and some don't and wise versa. I think I tried to connect to a computer, it just didn't do anything, but fakes differ, some are a bit better, some worse: some don't even save games, some freeze every 15 min. I always suggest to get an original, even if it is used, it will work much better and be reliable, not even mentioning the ability to add more games.

Turbograph - find EU version core graph - goes cheaper
@@alegreviews Alrighty sounds good! I might have a snes a cousin has and don't want it but gotta keep my fingers crossed! If worst comes to worst and can't grab em all even if I do thinking of a retropie setup!
Thanks. We found out that I had a fake
I m sorry to hear that
@@alegreviews It’s alright. We explained to our mom the games didn’t save at all but she keeps asking me if it still works. And that’s besides the point!
Super Metroid and Super Metrojd hahahahaha 3:10
Where can I purchase an authentic one and what is a reasonable price currently?
If you follow the tips in the video you may be lucky to get one locally like facebook market place so you can check.
Used ones can be bought at a reasonable price. New ones either too expensive or end up being a scam.

I just took an L with a fake one lol
return if you still can
Lol the one I have has the exact same serial number as the fake box 🤣🤣 At least I got it for free
Yep. They are usually all same
please tell me is this a good copy? worth buying? I don't understand your language and there are no reviews in my language (
Original = good
All fakes = bad
Use google translate
INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL is INSTRUCTION MANUAI 😄 .. I'VE GOT ONE AND CAN'T COMPLAIN
Where can I get the real SNES Classic? It's because I'm trying to get a Christmas gift for someone and by looking on certain websites, one doesn't show the box, and the other site does. Can you be able to send me a link to get the real SNES Classic, if that's fine?
price might be a bit high, but I know they sell authentic ones:
www.ebay.com/itm/302696243789
Good video my friend
Sorry for my bad english.
Thank You
thanks bro
is the lag worse than the original? and can you add more games the same?
Fakes have lag, cannot add any games, because they have completely different software and hardware
@@alegreviews there is a way to install retropie interface with this, there's a video on TH-cam, it may help with lag and also get star fox 2 running well
@@alegreviews any idea what the output resolution is? Your TV should tell you if you press info. Original is 720p but I think this one might be 480p
Idk, fakes are garbage in my experience, everything lags, freezes, worse graphics and then it breaks after a few times.
It’s not worth anything.
Better to get a used original, sometimes locally on facebook and craigslist and such you can get for $60-80 and get thousands of games to it.
@@alegreviews i asked the output resolution?
I have two legit ones and the serial number stickers on the bottom differ slightly. One has a little bit smaller font than the other. So I dont think that you can always tell from that, it seems that different runs have different font sizes.
I have a few dozens and all had same font. I think one of yours might be a fake. Check by other features shown in the video
@@alegreviews definitely not fake. Checks every other box. controllers are authentic, power adapter is authentic, weight is correct, firmware install is correct, HDMI and power cards all Nintendo brand and of the same quality . They are all hackable using hakchi, most fakes won't register on the program that I have seen. I think the one with the slightly smaller font was produced in a different production run or for a region outside the US maybe. It is just a subtle difference between it and others, most people probably wouldn't even notice.
Only authentic ones can be hacked with hakchi. Other region consoles look completely different, I have a video for US vs EU comparison. AU is similar to EU. Japananese look close to EU but very different in the software.
Maybe some had a good box with from a different one and printed it to match that console.
Can you share a picture somehow, I am curious
@@alegreviews I can't right now but I will get one to you eventually. I bought the second console and put hakchi on it for a friend, just gave it to him this weekend, so I no longer have it in my possession. I will either have him send me a picture or I will get one next time I am at this house and post the differences.
Its possible a label was made for it but I am 100% certain the system is authentic.
Yes, authentic for sure if you could use hakchi. Fakes run on completely different software and hakchi cannot be used
Just had a dude show the code saying su then the box came and it said cu
a lot of sellers who sell fakes use someone's pictures of original consoles or stock pictures, and then just hope they don't get a return because most of people - who buy it - didn't see this video
@@alegreviews I think I’m done with trying to get the real snes from eBay because of that
I have same setup - plugged into Dell monitor but no sound. My console is definitely original (not fake). Any ideas for sound?
Does dell monitor have internal speakers? I think it needs to have for it to work, because monitors only have hdmi in not out
You may also try to change hdmi cable or use other hdmi port in your monitor
@alegreviews Hi. Thanks for reply- my monitor does not have a built-in speakers, but it has factory Dell soundbar that I installed
@afeld9075 I think soundbar connects to a device like a computer. If you connect SNES to a monitor - I think it’s not the monitor that sends the audio out. SNES has no bluetooth either.
I think it will work with amplifiers and receivers that have both hdmi in and out
Can the Chinese SNES mini console be hacked with hakchi? Has anyone tested hacking?
No. It has completely different software. Fakes are trash.
You can find used original for $60-100
i got mine a couple years ago and thank god mine is real after watching this video
in 2017-2018 it was easy to buy a new one in stores for $80, and on ebay sometimes even cheaper and like $50 for a used now. Now prices are doubled-tripped. These are getting more and more rare. Luckily you got it at the right time
So I had the misfortune of buying a fake one for $96 at a local store, i hope the clerks didnt know about this. Anyways thanks for posting this video. Im gonna send the faker back as soon as i can, hopefully they dont resell it.
They probably will). Most of people don’t know how to tell
Also, where did you get the real SNES Classic? Like on Amazon, etc.
offer-up, ebay.
Amazon - I do not recommend, because you do not see the real pictures of what the seller sell
Does anyone know if Nintendo is taking any type of legal action against these fake consoles? I just got a fake can't return it. I was thinking about handing this in to the address of the box they can have it
I don’t think they do enough. They sometimes contact eBay and Amazon to take down the listing and that’s pretty much it
So if I buy one from someone and it has over 600 games it’s original since they added more games
all games should have 4 save slots and the console look like in the video.
there are some cheap 20$ fakes that have 600+ games, consoles looks similar to snes, but have only nes games and no saves etc. But these all over completely different
Fakes like in the video cannot have games added, however I've seen one with games added inside on a sd card, but menu there was completely different, and saves didn't work
most of authentic consoles with added games will be like in the following video:
th-cam.com/video/O6HI1NkXpGs/w-d-xo.html
@@alegreviews ok thanks cause I actually bought one snes classic and they added all the snes and nes games and has save slots I should receive it 2morrow hopefully it’s original
@@alegreviews I’ll compare mines 2morrow to you’re video when I receive it 2morrow
