I changed out of Dynamic Gold S300 to SteelFiber FC115 5 months ago due to continuous wrist and elbow pain. Best money I’ve ever spent. I can hit large bucket of balls and play 18 holes without any wrist elbow issues the following day. Previously, I would’ve had to taken 2-3 days before pain would subside.

I did the same ... S300 to SF 115 FC. Hit them slightly longer and higher , but head change from Mizuno mp62 to zx7s and are 2 degrees stronger . Definitely easier on elbow. Miss a bit of the former feel and feedback , but no way around that going to graphite .

Danny thanks for sharing... Decided on SteelFiber i95CW (R) for new Gen4 PXG 0311 6 and 7 irons over the MMT which is also a great graphite shaft that is a steel fiber "blend" for stability. Switched to graphite once elbow and hand arthritis get worse during the season from steel (with the exception of Elevate VSS from TT). When you get to the age when you know you need to bite the bullet and move away from heavy steel yet not give up any performance but rather improve distance and dispersion, the choice is a no brainer.

Interesting! We have "general" rules for what shaft flex fits for certain swing speeds, but ultimately what feels and performs best for each individual swing might fall outside of general rules. Which is the case for you. Keep playing what works for you!

Couldn't agree more! It was an extremely difficult decision between Mitsubishi MMT and the Steel Fibers for me...After a TON of testing, MMT 105TX went into the bag...I've definitely experienced "less recovery time" this year, than in years past after making the change out of 130g X-stiff, steel shafts. Very good guys! This was one of the few tests I have seen where they didn’t put the tester in some ridiculous light shaft and ask them to compare to steel. I play a 95 gram graphite shaft in stiff. So many of the golfers I play with will ask about my shafts and assume they are super light. I hope you do more testing with graphite I was surprised by the Fujikura shafts I will have to check them out on my next set. I would like to see what you could do with the MMT shafts.

Arriving late to the party, but I am impressed how consistently Danny hits the different shafts. I played steelfiber 95 stiff, softstepped once, a few years ago and liked the feel. One thing that I found was that I think the steelfibers play a little stiffer than their stated flex. If you are an X player, and moving into steelfibers, you might find either softstepping an X, or just plain S to be to your liking. Has that been your experience Thomas?

If the 115 X was available when I did these clubs, or when I do a new set, the 115 Steelfiber will be one of my main test shafts. For example, X100 is at least 3 swing weight points heavier than the Fuji 95 and 2 points more than the other two shafts in this video.

The title of this video is misleading. It is, "Fitting A Faster Swing Speed Into Graphite or SteelFiber Shafts | Golf Club Fitting Insight." As soon as the video starts Thomas Campbell says it is a comparison of graphite iron shafts versus steel iron shafts. However, he did end up testing the SteelFiber shafts as well so it was all 3 - graphite, SteelFiber, and steel. I was surprised you didn't test the SteelFiber i95 X-Flex as well as the 115. The i95 would be a direct comparison with the Fujikura he tested. It has 2.2 degrees of torque, even lower than the Fujikura shaft. Both Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker use i95 SteelFiber shafts in their irons. It is reported that Geoff Ogilvy has also switched to AeroTech SteelFiber shafts although I couldn't find specifics.

I am still apprehensive about changing out to graphite shafts for my iron set. Maybe it might be due to me having graphite shafts in my first set of clubs back in a time when graphite iron shafts didn’t have a good reputation back in the late 1990s.

@@if829 Hi Ian, I hope that you are well.
I have played graphite shafts in my Irons for approx 10 years now and because of my arthritic hands I could never go back to playing steel shafts, there is just too much vibration from them. My current set of Orka Irons have KBS TGI shafts which are just about perfect for my swing & hands.
I also now have Jumbomax Ultralite (medium) Grips in all my clubs which has allowed me to change my left thumb position (the major source of pain). Instead of my left thumb going down the shaft I now wrap it around the Grip (like you would hold a hammer (I still interlock my fingers). This allows me to play pain-free Golf without having to use painkilling medication, which is great and a big relief.

I went for a fitting the other day and have already ordered my irons but now I’m concerned I didn’t get stiff enough shafts.
I was fitted into a $-taper stuff shaft double hard stepped as my swing speed is 93mph with a 7 iron.
From the video I noticed that we fitted an extra stiff shaft into 86 mph swing speed. Did my feeder do a poor job?

    • @canyonaro

There's no standard for what "stiff" even means & it has more to do with tempo and preferred feel than speed. You'll be fine.

WHY IS NO ONE COMMENTING ON THE FACT THAT HE'S PLAYING XTRA STIFF WITH 86 MPH 7 IRONS. AND PAST TESTING SAME SPEED WITH A 6. TRY A REGULAR FLEX........STIFF AT MOST BUT MORE INTERESTING WOULD BE THREE SHAFTS ALL AROUND 100 WITH VARIED FLEXES

Is it normal to swing faster with a heavier shaft ?
Im playing Mizuno 919 forged atm with Nippon 105 x-flex ( 112 gram ) and never really felt in control. I swing my 7 irong around 91-21. I recently got fitted into some Taylormade 770 with KBS 130 x-stiff ( 130 gram i belive ? ) And i actully started swinging faster, without me feeling i swung faster. My 7 iron went up to 95-96 instead and i felt much more in control of my swing
Im going back on tursday to try a much much heavier shaft in my driver aswell, to see if thats the same result. Swing speed atm is 112-114 with driver with a Tensei white raw x-flex. Im very very curious, if im gonna swing a heavier driver shaft faster aswell, without any more effort

Golfers will react differently to changes in weight and bend profile, some golfers will swing a lighter shaft faster were as another golfer will swing a heavier shaft faster because they feel more in control. That's why the shaft OEM's offer so many shaft weight and stiffness bend profiles.

    Hello Mr Campbell,
Love the channel and especially you input and unbiased opinions on all that is new and old.
Hoping to get your email address, having started again after a 10 year hiatus, I have already gone through 2 sets of irons and want your opinion on the Ping I500 in either a stiff shaft or possibly a steelfiber shaft in regular , as I have heard that they respond approximately 1/2 firmness above their actual stiffness.
I know you gave your email address in a previous video, just not sure which one.
Thanks for all of the information and great content.
    Sincerely Brett

@@Unplugged704 I have approximately same swing speed and play Recoil 460 ES F3 in my irons. They are regular flex (leaning towards stiff) and are very easy to control. I would kill my elbows with something like X-stiff.

Brian, That's definitely on my radar for the winter months in Minnesota. I will say, without question, that I was able to play more "effortless golf", and played more frequently in 2021 than in years prior. I think a lot of that has to do with the change to graphite shafts in the irons, and making the whole bag "lighter". Thanks for the compliments on the swing! More footage with graphite shafts are in the works! -Danny

@@2ndswing Excellent Danny, great to hear from you. I will say physical therapy really does work. I had low back issues from hitting for hours on the range and work. The exercises they prescribe and strengthening is the key. If you really do the exercises, it works better than anything. I was fitted for the steelfiber 95g shafts and immediately felt the difference, they were a lot less straining on my back, the effortless feel. Loved them and the numbers showed they were way more accurate.
