    The 8GB/256GB model arrived here in London today. It's just £241from Ali Express - delivered! Excellent value for money for such a fast laptop with a fabulous screen. Oh, I can confirm that they've definitely fixed the spacebar issue, but the Type C restrictions remain. I haven't looked at the BIOS.

    Hey Chris, I would love to hear your take on these new Chinese brands that are popping up like Yepo, Binyae, Qtech, etc. They are undercutting the older brands like Chuwi and Teclast in terms of pricing by selling 8GB ram laptops for well under $300. It feels like you have settled into a rhythm and have been sticking to the same brands. I think I can speak for a good chunk of your audience who watches your Chinese laptop reviews that the huge part of the reason we watch those videos is that we want to know that these cheap laptops won't die a week after we buy them. Back when you first started, you were buying gear that no one was sure if it was any good or not. You were taking risks, so we wouldn't have to. But at this point, we know Chuwi and Teclast are reliable brands. And unfortunately, these brands are no longer as competitive in pricing as they used to be.

      You're right because I'm sticking with ones I know should be good. I'm not wasting my cash on stuff I know will be poor and have been throwing money away. When I have looked at Yepo I've reviewed and others they have been junk with issues or not worth the $30-$40 less over say a Teclast or Chuwi. Not if you have a full plastic build, bouncing flex keyboard, bad TN screen, etc. It's just not worth my time and money on most of those brands. If I get get a loan unit of them I would cover it, but with mounting expenses and Adsense earnings lower than ever I cannot buy up as much of the unknown stuff like before and be the guinea pig now. I have rent on the apartment I film at and bills x 2. I've got to try and keep the channel rolling however possible. Hope you understand.

      @@Techtablets Thank you, Chris, for replying. You don't owe me anything, nor did you needed my advice to get this far. It's lot easier for me to tell you how to do it right and dish out criticism (even if it is very much of the constructive variety) when I don't have to do it myself. I just hope that someday you can get to a point where you can help consumers without having to worry about such logistics. Because, a movie critic can't do it's job properly if he is only watching movies he thinks are good. But sadly, the movie industry is lot better at accommodating its critics than the Chinese tech industry is at accommodating theirs.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I get what you're saying. If things ease up a bit I will try to review of them, more unknown brands. But as I is on my list is the EZbook X4 pro and Magicbook 14 possible different ones to look at. But not cheaper, $400 and $600. At least they are safer bets for me. And as a movie critic will know sitting through a painful movie is much harder than a good movie :) (Reviewing lemons is more frustrating it's painful)

    I just bought the 8GB ram and 256GB SSD version of this thing and I'm loving it! It has indeed a 256GB SSD, no EMMC though. SSD slot is occupied. All the cons on this video are non existent on my device. My keyboard is fine, touchpad not clanking. BIOS is unlocked too! I set the Power Limit to 15W and I'm maxing out to 86C when gaming. At least with this one they really nailed the design so i guess we a are a step closer to the perfect budget laptop, maybe a darker grey like the aerebook would fit better. Also i hope that by this point they realize that 8gb should be the minimum and if they manage to put a fully functioning PD type-c (even with just another 3.0 type c) then we are even closer to the holy grail of budget laptops. The only thing missing then would be a linux+amd version for the geeks like me.

    excellent unboxing. I buy one. I like very much screen of 14.1" in 13 case with slim bezels. I remove cortana, and others services that don't need, and I only use 29% of RAM when windows starts. Installed 2280 Crucial SSD and it goes like a shot. Installed office and Chrome 32bits versions, that spends much less memory and the performance is very good. The biggest disappointment is the USB-C. I have tried 3 different chargers and they do not work. What is a USB-C like that? What is a USB-C like that? @techTablets please!!

  • @jordydan1
    @jordydan1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Like any of your reviews or all your reviews, it's just perfect. The answer to the question "should you buy?" it's actually very simple, for me at least. NO ONE should buy Chuwi devices!!! Despite the good build quality, design, performance, and value or the money, Chuwi is very bad in customer service, warranty and after sale support.
    Two years ago I purchased a CoreBook by backing it on Indigogo and last year one more Lapbook SE, so I'm not an enemy of the brand.
    Everything changed when the cover keyboard o the CoreBook started malfunctioning, several keys don't work anymore. After contacting Chuwi I've been told the following: 24 months warranty is for the tablet-pc alone; keyboard is only 3 months covered. Repair is out o the question as well as buying a new one since don't have it anymore. No whatsoever proposal or support in solving the issue, except "you can connect an external keyboard via BT". Basically f!?k myself and throw 500 USD it in the trash after not even 2 years of using the device.

    I believe that theoretically you could hack the Power Delivery limitation. If you add some kind of board in between the power bank and the laptop that will "talk" with the powerbank and ask 12V, then "talk" with the laptop and ask 2A. I have no idea if something like that is sold, but it shouldn't be hard for manufacturers to make one. Actually if you know that something like that exists, please tell me where to buy one or at least its name. I need one to power a Mini PC with a PD power bank. (the mini PC doesn't support power delivery (actually not even type C charging), so I got a type C to barrel adapter and gave it a go. Nothing happened, so I think that the barrel should support PD too. Some kind of board like the one I described should do the trick for us both :D )

      The "manual" is basically 2 pages of specs. You would think they could say: M.2 slow is XYZ, here is a link to some valid drive part numbers. Horrible documentation, and so far silent technical service.
      Otherwise, very solid machine with no major issues, and I like it quite well for the price.

    Thanks for the review... I see you have Linux Mint running on this. Can you explain a little about running Linux on this. Were you simply using a live USB; did everything run out of box as expected - touchpad, sound, etc; installation; etc.? This would be really helpful to know and I'm having trouble getting info about it so far. Thanks...

      Don't expect great gaming performance, it's the N4100. I could run Dirt 3 smoothly at lowest graphical options possible at 1366x768. League of legends runs at 55-60fps 1366x768, WOW runs at 1366x768 around 60 fps lowest. Temps hit 80º while gaming, but I haven't opened the laptop to see the cooling solution, I'm waiting for Chris.

    Very nice review and I was convinced by your video and took a chance to get a lapbook pro with n4100 processor, sad to say after 20 days of using it won't turn on. compared to my purchased refurbished 7-year-old NEC laptop I encountered no problem at all and still working for more than a year now. I'm still waiting for the chuwi store reply about the warranty but I am beginning to regret getting this and doubt the quality of their product. I will be holding my thoughts on getting the ubook pro after this experience. Thank you.

      Hey there!
      Well, I own the CHUWI Lapbook Pro and I have to say what you actually get here for this cheap price is really fantastic. I'm so satisfied with my unit. It feels really high quality, the screen is amazing, the touchpad is really great (better than many more expensive notebooks I owned), battery life is really good with 6-7 hours (including lots of TH-cam videos and stuff) and the keyboard is really nice, too. What more could you ask for? If you can live with the USB-C being without the power delivery function, then I can highly recommend this one!
      Hope I could help!
