@@theeeMitchi Exactly, i generally like his videos but his coverage about RF2 is totally uncritical, more like paid propaganda. If he would just handle the game in a more critical way, I would love his videos.
Nice one man. I’m a closet fan of F1 2020, but I have to work around the driving feel. The turn in feels spongy and the acceleration is twitchy, but overall I like the title
i find it impossible to drive in F1 2020. I come back to it every couple weeks hoping I'll really enjoy it this time but on every occasion i've found it so frustrating to get around a track in
Do you know about something calles "trail braking"? It is crucial to have contro of the car on each turn, if you don't know about it i would suggest watch some videos about it, it truely is night and day with racing.
I know this particular car is not available on AMS 2 but, how would you compare the behavior on AMS 2 with a similar car. The last FFB update feels really good.
Completely agree... I may be a casual PS player, but entertainment is by far the most important factor for me in a game. I play video games to have fun, not work a day job as a F1 driver
same here, I get that F1 2020 offers a better game experience with all the stuff going on around, but I personally do not enjoy the driving so it's not for me
@Mustafa_Leek lmao it's okay to find Mario Kart to be more fun than Assetto and F1 2020 dude. Many people probably believe that. Don't gatekeep fun. Fun is subjective.
Ultimately the F1 games are designed to appeal to a far broader audience than Rfactor 2 especially, and AC as well. It's strengths are its engrossing single player career mode and ability to handle well on a wheel AND a controller for the many F1 fans.
I'm satisfied with the game because it has some realistic elements but is arcade enough to just be able to casually play. It caters to both hardcore sim guys who want F1 and regular arcade people. It's good for what it needs to be
Yeah, it’s just these elitists sim racers who think handling and graphics are the only thing that matters and they forget the appeal of Formula 1 as game and not as a simulation
Honestly if I could ask for 2 changes for the next F1 game , it’d be that they actually laser scan the tracks instead of drawing them by hand and placing imagery grass everywhere. The second would be that they overall just make the game more difficult, the tyre model should be less forgiving and instead be punishing. locking up too hard for too long will ultimately end up flat spotting the tyre like in real life, running on to marbles or rubber flakes will completely break traction and kill your tyre. It needs to be punishing if you push too hard and try to get away with it but at the same time rewarding if you respect the tyres and push to the level of being able to maintain pace but also maintain tyres.
They want to sell millions of copies, that's why - they'd chase people away if it was too unforgiving. As to the tracks not being laser scanned, I agree one hundred percent.
Verry well put-together video and quite an interesting comparison. I agree that in terms of pure physics F12020 lacks behind but IMO make up for it with the career as well as good AI. I would be curious if you could elaborate as to what exactly in terms of physics makes F1 2020 just a game?
Great video! Racing sims isn't my jam at all, but you made me watch the whole video! Might actually look into racing sims after all! Have you driven with VR? Seems like the optimal thing!
Always get the feeling that the f1 games make their cars more or less grippy on individual parts of tracks maybe to balance the lap times, prevent corner cutting etc - it feels like sometimes your grip is affected by outside forces rather than the physics model-e.g. turn 2 at bahrain or turn 7 at montreal always seem way more slippery than they should to me
Great overview Emin. FWIW, the best single player gaming experience in a sim I ever had was Grand Prix 2. That title was incredible, so I can understand the draw of less "simmy" titles and their immense value in the genre of racing games. Long may they live.
I think F1 game can be better if it had more lasered scanned tracks. I play on controller but I don't use the casual style setting which is for beginners. I play on standard with abs off and traction control on medium, I can't handle it off but if they made a low setting then that would probably be the lowest I could handle. If the F1 game became like a sim it would be hard for people on controller. I do think the physics can still be made more realistic without hurting the playability for people who play on controller. F1 is a good game that anybody can play either controller or wheel. It is very accessible and that's what makes it good and I would like it to stay that way and just make some tweaks like you stated. sorry this is so long I just love this game and agree with you. Love your videos
What codemasters have to do is improve traction control more, since when accelerating you have to wait a lot in slow curves to what happens in reality, and the other thing is to improve that ABS, the blockage occurs when one enters fast in a curve not when one enters a curve at a perfect speed and just by turning the steering wheel it locks up, we are forced to leave the brake and start practicing trail braking, which would take us a long time to master.
Assetto Corsa has a huge emphasis on setups, with the right one you can easily get into the 1:42 - 1:43 range with the f2004. I do find that overall it's much more predictable than F1 2020, easier to feel where the limit is and push right up to that point.
thats why everytime my friends ask me which one is the most realistic racing games by physics i always say that choose the one that does not say spesific title example F1 games that means f1 racing games or like Dirt rally that means its a rally game, choose something that generic like assetto corsa, project cars 1 and 2,automobilista,grand tourismo that offers not just rally or f1 but all
Kimi R said it was easier to drive the cars in real life than in F1 2019, I think that says all you need to know. No surprise, it’s easier to drive my real car than drive similar cars in a sim like AC.
Loved this vid, it takes each games qualities and where it shines. I play ACC for more serious gt3 racing, but I like f120xx titles (and esp f1 2020) because of it's immersiveness and options. AC or rF2 I'm not good enough for, and Rf2 I don't have the time to learn everyhting and the clunky UI. so for me ACC, F12020 and also AMS2 coming into the picture to fill in other gaps. But indeed we are spoiled with choice. And even if it is a "game" rather than a sim, I feel the immersion, which is awesome. It makes me feel, ACC makes me feel too and AMS2 makes me feel better too recently. I'm not a pro, I just want escapism, so yeah. I would love them to add laser scanned tracks in f1 codies games and a bit more realism if teams are willing to give that data (because tbh - they are limited there of course)
i think f1 2020 is perfect for what it is. It is easy enough to pick up and be accessible for the the majority of people but has those sim elements to challenge the faster and more serious drivers.
The F1 games would be awesome if they were simulated like other games, but kept all the other aspects such as the carreer mode which are unmatched by other games.
I don't understand how when people love F1, they then drive either with the chase cam or perched above the car. I call it "baby mode". 🤣 Nice video by the way!
what about the actual racing though rather than just hotlapping because as great as the ''sims'' are i find the AI in f1 games by far some of the best and most thrilling to race against. they fight you, they fight each other, they make mistakes, they have accidents in front of you, behind you, brake check them they will swerve around you etc... the single player experience of the more well rounded simulations is always paltry and frankly wank in comparison, great for hotlapping or racing online ofcourse but if you want to sit down and have some good racing with a good progression goal then f1 2020 takes it by a mile and sometimes thats what you want as a gamer not just a sim racer. the fact it somewhat gets close to how you imagine an f1 car to react is just a bonus... it does not compete for online fun though.
SAME. Hotlapping is a blast in AC, but try racing a f1 car there. It's impossible and unrealistic. The ai was made for slower cars, the rules don't represent F1. You can't have a proper f1 experience in AC, that's just a fact. What's the point of putting hours at hotlapping in AC if you can't put those skills to test in a real race weekend? F1 should have its dedicated sim, and f1 2020 is the closest we have for that . If they could only laser scan the tracks...
I own a few of earlier F1 games, namely I buy them on uneven year number. Latest I own, 2019, is a pain to use with G29. Turning radius is unadjustable, chicanes are hard to steer (too much resistance from the wheel). I never had that issue with simulators, usually turning wheel is adjusted automatically to match type of car, turning ratio makes sense (if presented)... I don't understand what's the progress in game if the older versions were more accurate, even without pronounced tyre models (they all have glass tyres)
I'd love to try RF2, but a lot of the DLC are a little expensive. Anyone know how to get the best out for it without/minimising paying for DLC? My favourite cars are probably F1 (pre 2009, like literally any F1 car from 1950-2008 will be fine) and LMP1s (Gr.C and GT1 are fine as well).
You could get a lot of F1 and LMP content without paying for DLC's, the Steam Workshop offers solid mods for F1 cars like the ones from ASR Formula. For LMP content, the Endurance Series mod is your free alternative to the Endurance Packs DLC's, there is also a Group C mod available. Only the DLC tracks don't have a free alternative afaik, depending on which tracks you want to race on, you would have to buy those but there are also a lot of other tracks available as mods.
F1 drivers usually practice on the pro-version (unavailable to the public) of either assetto corsa or rfactor in their team's simulators. However F1 drivers usually play iRacing in their past time.
I would have to give it to AC for being the best, not only for formula racing but being the most diverse and amazing driving simulator ever created. The graphics, sounds and the mod community makes AC a no brainer for car and driving enthusiasts!
If anything, the F1 games should be a little more gamey/arcadey in my opinion. Racing games are an incredibly niche genre within the realm of video games. You will be very lucky to be able to get a CoD or League of Legends to get into a racing game, assuming that they had never gotten too deep into the genre. Additionally, there aren't that many games that provide an actual racing experience outside of hardcore sims. This is where we get into the F1 games: the driving is simplified (and you can argue the same about the tracks), but I feel like that's a good thing. Imagine you were a 8-14 year old, having graduated from Mario Kart and maybe the Forza Horizon games, you want to get into racing formula cars. Would you expect someone of that age group, having just mastered the art of ramming other drivers off the track to overtake, to be able to pick up a hardcore sim like AC or iRacing? There is a gap in the required skill between games like Forza Horizon and the crew v.s. simulators. The F1 games fill that gap fairly well, offering a bridge for players who aren't quite ready for full on simulators (or aren't that interested in the highest fidelity possible , rather more so interested in the management and F1 side of things). The ideal situation, really, is for the FIA/FOM to just give the F1 team a huge chunk of money (Don't tell me that F1 cannot afford a video game) and for the F1 games to feature *two* physics engines; keep the current arcadey engine and maybe add a new physics engine closer to how simulators handle it.
f1 2020 is very fun game to play, single player is a must do with all assits turn off. What do you think real f1 drivers speaking out sometimes that f1 2020 made huge step into the right direction, Russel is very positive about the realism, its not like the real deal but much closer than f1 2019. That was ice skateing game for my feel.
Hotlapping is a blast in AC because the car sounds better and the physics are more intuitive and unforgivable (no overpowered setups), but try racing a f1 car there. F1 2020 is still the best of the Codemasters series. Sure Assetto Corsa F1 cars feel a bit better but this is very underrated game even among the sim racers. Much, much better than 2021, 2022 and 2023. Trust me, I've played them all and 2020 is the pinnacle of this series. PS: Everyone says that F1 2020 drives much more authentic when the TC is fully equipped.
I think that AMS 2 Has excellent Formula One cars. I would also say that race room race experience also has some of the best Formula One cars. Far better than R factor and asset a Corsa
I love rFactor 2, it is probably my go-to-sim for just about anything, but I've been driving a lot of F1 recently for fun, because I find the gameplay incredibly fun whenever I want to casually play a racing game.
Exactly, the amount of setup options in ac and rfactor really put me off because I don’t have a clue (I’d love to though so will teach myself) but with the f1 game it’s pretty much plug and play for a fairly decent experience. I’d love to know my way around ac and rfactor though, so it will be worth me putting in the time to learn.
@@TheSnaveeelPlaysGames it is definitely worth it, been doing league racing on rf2 for about a year now, and honestly it's the best experience on the market - definitely like playing F1 2020 to relax and have some fun though.
It was a good video for the comparison. One key element which adds to the whole simulation experience is the visuals. I'm not talking about sponsors, track elevation or minor detailing but the realistic lighting & shadows overall. Assetto Corsa and RF2 just look a little bit too much like a computer generated image in my opinion, sometimes too shiny, or too much vibrancy in colour that can ruin the immersion for me.
No game will ever truly be a true simulation interms of complete realistic graphics physics however I don’t think that f1 2020 has to be a simulation the think we all come back for is the thrill of being challenged and pushed to be consistent and better
Nice video. Gave it a like. A bit of feedback and opinion if you don't mind. - I consider "classic" cars in the F1 series as "afterthought". Where it shines is the modern cars in my opinion. Sure, RSS and even Kunos F1 cars are better to drive, but during the years F1 got closer and closer, each year represents a step towards being more sim-like, and yes, it's not there yet (2019 cars e.g. were extremely understeery and felt like they were very heavy, 2020 made them a lot more agile, closer to what I experience in proper sims). F1 provides a whole package, with proper rules, safety car, very very good AI to race against offline. What it lacks in driving experience makes up in atmosphere, resulting in comparable immersion for me. I just want fully manual pit stops! - Spa is notoriously wrong in F1 unfortunately, so this is a bit of an unbalanced comparison. There are tracks in F1 that would beat their probably modded counterparts in AC or rF2. In this case, the Spa track is the best in rF2 of course, both in accuracy and visuals. - F2004 in rF2 is from ASR not VRC. It also looks comically off on this beautiful track. rF2 can really shine, has very high potential visually as shown with the latest content from S397, but the amount of content where it shines graphically is painfully limited (even among official content, even among DLC cars). While I agree that rF2 has extremely communicative FFB, the behaviour of this particular car didn't always really look... right. - IIRC AC already has tyre flex in the physics, but not visually. Using the Custom Shaders Patch Tyres FX it can be enabled visually for open wheelers. Whether that visual tyre flex is the same as the physical, I have absolutely no idea.
This games career mod should be in every motosports game or enhanced Its more then just driving its RPG but racing game you have to though about what team you going to be like midfield or Top podium hunter

F1 2020 does what it needs to very well. Assetto and RF simply don’t have the f1 ‘experience’ that codies nailed. The game is meant to be more sim-cade but heavier on the sim side

I rly like the F1 2020 game, however, once i try Asseto Corsa,im faster and i love driving it,F1 2020 feels like the wheel is locked above the tyres, and only Asseto Corsa feels the most real out of all sims i tried, but anyway F1 2020 is the best and most impressive game,so i can overlook some unreal stuff honestly
Try rf2
I drove the f2004 in F12020 and loved it then I drove it in AC and it actually felt like the downforce was sticking it to the ground and not the game. It’s hard to explain the difference but it was so much more satisfying
Hey Ermin have a great day :)
You too!
Nice video thanks. I really like that laser scan Spa track. That 2400hz tyre model thing I didn't know, of course having a high frequency tyre model only make sense if you have highly detailed tracks.Cheers.
And here I was still racing with a controller.
8:40 "a ton of midcorner correction" has nothing to do with the quality of rFactors track, that was 20 kph slower than it could have been ...
I think more of what he is saying is that he is able to do it in that game because it allows him to feel when or what he needs to do
@@sniper1k223 I'm completely aware of that. It might help his videos if he wouldn't come off as paid-off by rFactor 2.
@@theeeMitchi Exactly, i generally like his videos but his coverage about RF2 is totally uncritical, more like paid propaganda. If he would just handle the game in a more critical way, I would love his videos.
This is definitely starting to become my favorite sim racing channel
This review hits the nail on the head, it’s no more than a game
Nice one man. I’m a closet fan of F1 2020, but I have to work around the driving feel. The turn in feels spongy and the acceleration is twitchy, but overall I like the title
i find it impossible to drive in F1 2020. I come back to it every couple weeks hoping I'll really enjoy it this time but on every occasion i've found it so frustrating to get around a track in
Do you know about something calles "trail braking"? It is crucial to have contro of the car on each turn, if you don't know about it i would suggest watch some videos about it, it truely is night and day with racing.
@@Fretzton it’s impossible to do it in f1 2020, you just block the tires when turning just a bit
@@betobeto1241 move the brake bias towards the back wheel.
I know this particular car is not available on AMS 2 but, how would you compare the behavior on AMS 2 with a similar car. The last FFB update feels really good.
If the F1 franchise had proper VR support I’d buy it. I’d probably buy it every year too.
F1 2020 is a game. There's no denying that. But it's more FUN than the sims, and that's why it takes the cake for many.
Completely agree... I may be a casual PS player, but entertainment is by far the most important factor for me in a game. I play video games to have fun, not work a day job as a F1 driver
i mean thats debatable, but i get your point
Well fun for myself is realism.
same here, I get that F1 2020 offers a better game experience with all the stuff going on around, but I personally do not enjoy the driving so it's not for me
@Mustafa_Leek lmao it's okay to find Mario Kart to be more fun than Assetto and F1 2020 dude. Many people probably believe that.
Don't gatekeep fun. Fun is subjective.
Hey man, try Kart Kraft, theis ffb is quite awesome and chassis flex is greatly transmitted!
It is amazing how an 2014 game stands up even today!
I just love your editing! Awesome job!
Seems like the optimal thing!
watching tires deform in rf2 makes me geek out
me to, but the suspension isn't moving

@@bobross4real Look closely. It does.
You should probably try the 2020 cars in f1 2020. Imo their driving is better modelled than the old cars
For a smicade F12020 gives very sim-like vibes.
Always get the feeling that the f1 games make their cars more or less grippy on individual parts of tracks maybe to balance the lap times, prevent corner cutting etc - it feels like sometimes your grip is affected by outside forces rather than the physics model-e.g. turn 2 at bahrain or turn 7 at montreal always seem way more slippery than they should to me
i mean if you watch f1 you can notice that generally drivers slip or almost slip often in turn 2 bahrain.
Great overview Emin. FWIW, the best single player gaming experience in a sim I ever had was Grand Prix 2. That title was incredible, so I can understand the draw of less "simmy" titles and their immense value in the genre of racing games. Long may they live.
The 4K Video Quality reall shines when looking at your wheel cam! C R I S P
1:39 is the world record btw lol fastest I’ve gone is 1:44
In Official F1 2020 the setup is absolutely Fake!
Hay Ermin, great video as all of yours are! What about Automobilista2? after all you got me into it with all your pre release videos
thats why everytime my friends ask me which one is the most realistic racing games by physics i always say that choose the one that does not say spesific title example F1 games that means f1 racing games or like Dirt rally that means its a rally game, choose something that generic like assetto corsa, project cars 1 and 2,automobilista,grand tourismo that offers not just rally or f1 but all
As far as driving, fuck no! It is however a great "simulation" of the F1 experience, as you said.
It's basically a boosted and more wheel supported sim-cade
Kimi R said it was easier to drive the cars in real life than in F1 2019, I think that says all you need to know. No surprise, it’s easier to drive my real car than drive similar cars in a sim like AC.
Would be great if you could share your dd1 & ingame settings for ac and rf2 thanks
Did I miss the part where you drive the real car around the real track?! Time to up your game... pun intended :) Excellent and useful video
May I ask how you recorded your gameplay? What did you use? Looks very smooth and I get choppy or stuttering recording using shadowplay. Nice video
i think f1 2020 is perfect for what it is. It is easy enough to pick up and be accessible for the the majority of people but has those sim elements to challenge the faster and more serious drivers.
The F1 games would be awesome if they were simulated like other games, but kept all the other aspects such as the carreer mode which are unmatched by other games.
They might to that once they make a new engine for the new consoles.
I don't understand how when people love F1, they then drive either with the chase cam or perched above the car. I call it "baby mode". 🤣 Nice video by the way!
00:01 intro song?
Can you specify which VRC mod you’re using in rF2? Or did you mean ASR?
I was like how does he have access to a real F1 simulator.. Then boom Assetto Corsa.
is the rf2 f2004 free?
why didnt u try iracing?
Still waiting for a real life visor-cam or VR.
wait... Ermin loving RF2 fisics and ffb?? ...that's a first! :)
I dont get it, how can you have such smooth movements with a DD wheel but i can barely keep it straight with the T300??
Maybe you've set the FFB effects too high? It looks like Ermin is using a very light setting.
what about the actual racing though rather than just hotlapping because as great as the ''sims'' are i find the AI in f1 games by far some of the best and most thrilling to race against. they fight you, they fight each other, they make mistakes, they have accidents in front of you, behind you, brake check them they will swerve around you etc... the single player experience of the more well rounded simulations is always paltry and frankly wank in comparison, great for hotlapping or racing online ofcourse but if you want to sit down and have some good racing with a good progression goal then f1 2020 takes it by a mile and sometimes thats what you want as a gamer not just a sim racer. the fact it somewhat gets close to how you imagine an f1 car to react is just a bonus... it does not compete for online fun though.
Another great video!
Have you tried turning the damper in the wheel settings down? That helped for me
Play Real Racing 3 and compare it to a normal sim, would be a great vid i think
Real is the only real thing in it. Cmon, any decent driver makes 1:33 on SPA LMFAO
That’s a fucking mobile game. You can get a time under 1 minute in Monaco lmfao
You get two 90s McLaren F1s for 'free' with the vanilla game. You can download some free modded tracks to race them on via the Steam workshop.
@@Ermz Thanks, I'll go ask if I can have it from my Mum.
@@IceColdKillah133 Thanks for the useful info. I'll give it a go
The question is what F1 pilots count as "true" simracing. Because, deep down, there might no "true" sims at all. :)
There isn’t. A sim will never be able to capture that feel of your life being on the line as you turn a corner at those speeds
F1 drivers usually practice on the pro-version (unavailable to the public) of either assetto corsa or rfactor in their team's simulators. However F1 drivers usually play iRacing in their past time.

Bad blood runs wild and free
Yeah I agree. I'm wondering if they could just buy the physics engine from AC?
f1 2020 is very fun game to play, single player is a must do with all assits turn off.
F1 2020 is still the best of the Codemasters series. Sure Assetto Corsa F1 cars feel a bit better but this is very underrated game even among the sim racers. Exactly, the amount of setup options in ac and rfactor really put me off because I don’t have a clue (I’d love to though so will teach myself) but with the f1 game it’s pretty much plug and play for a fairly decent experience.

I play this F1 2019 from time to time, but I would not say I like the physics:)
I only play iRacing, but great video, anyways.
Nice video :)

F1 2020 does what it needs to very well. Assetto and RF simply don’t have the f1 ‘experience’ that codies nailed. The game is meant to be more sim-cade but heavier on the sim side
F1 2020 is very as well as R&D is at a new level of complexity as such.
