    another thing I like about Raceroom's purchase model, and something that no TH-camrs seem to mention - you don't have to buy every car & livery in a class to enjoy it. Want to race GT3s? Just buy 1 car (an Audi EVO, Bimmer, Camaro, whatever), choose your favourite livery & away you go, on- or off-line. All of the other cars & liveries are still available for you to race against, even if you don't have access to use them yourself. In another sims, if you don't own a particular car (or livery) you often can't race against it.

    Quick correction: It appears the Nurburgring GP circuit in R3E isn't laser-scanned after all - only the Nordschleife portion - making a true 1:1 comparison with ACC virtually impossible. This would explain my comments about R3E's lack of 'granular detail' in the FFB - I was likely reacting to a fairly flat track surface.

    • @panvlk
      @panvlk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe there are actually two versions of GP track in Raceroom, one laser scanned and one not laser scanned. The one attached to the Nordschleife should be laser scanned, but cannot be driven standalone. The older standalone one you've driven here isn't scanned. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @davidperes3720
      @davidperes3720 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      With or without laser scanned info track artists still have to build the physical 3D surface mesh "by hand", so I don't think laser scan is what makes ACC feel more detailed. It's probably more about how the FFB reacts diferently to the track surface in both sims. If you look at a Raceroom replay form an exterior camera you can see the suspension moving to the bumps, so they are there, even if they feel very subtle on the wheel compared with ACC.

  • @chaostheory567
    @chaostheory567 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Right on Ermin, your sentiment resonates well here. I love ACC and its unforgiving character, but the RRE team just hooked me with their rendering of physics based FFB. It feels so good... While FFB is prob more similar than not, I think the biggest difference between the two sims is the tire model which you characterized as plastic vs rubber. GT3 tires in ACC have such a narrow window (4-5 deg) in which they generate max grip, and the fall off while substantial is communicated in a very subtle way. RRE is indeed much more progressive feel.... Aris recently commented that one thing he would still like to work on/change in ACC is the tire model, but it sounded like that may not materialize in this iteration. Anyways, great time to follow and support both Kunos and Sector3 devs. Cheers

      I can share this view after close to 100h in both sims. However, it is hard to really compare both even if you limit yourself to GT3 / GT 4 cars. ACC is a licenced game to simulate a specific GT race series of the last few years with. In Raceroom, I can choose between more then 300 GT3 cars from various series alone. So if you are a fan of the GT Masters, you can get almost all original teams incl. liveries and drivers and you could race them on a car by car basis per race....
      BUT : In R3E there are no italian cars ( Ferrari, Lambo ) while in ACC quite a few US cars are missing ( GT Masters Corvettes and Mustangs, Ford GT...).
      Also, R3E offers way more tracks and some even in their historic layout. Not laserscanned though. Aside from that, I could also race very different car series from open wheelers to prototypes and even streetcars in R3E - so if I would have to choose only 1 single sim...I'd go for R3E simply because it's wealth of authentic cars, tracks, new FFB/Physics, custom championship modes and many more reasons. This despite the fact that I really like ACC for it's ( limited # though ) very realistic cars, sounds, graphics, tracks, weather ( still missing at R3E ) ....

    R3E after the new update is awesome, I have a simucube 2 pro and the FFB feels better than most sims I race on now, and I do on iRacing, ACC, AC, rfactor 2 and AMS2. The sound is the best in the business but the online presence for racers is horrible. I really hope they put in laser scanned tracks and update their graphics, this will make R3E one of the best. Lastly one thing that R3E is unique in is the selection of DTM cars, they are freaking awesome and we don’t get to race them anywhere else

    Honestly I've been playing ACC solid for the last 2 years or so, I never considered anything else but it always felt like the cars tyres were not rubber, even though I've all but mastered the cars over a thousand hours plus there was always the distinct feeling they were always on the edge of just letting go, especially on curbs.
    Any time I've ever lost the car on ACC I've always felt cheated as if in reality that just wouldn't have happened, they lack the weight you feel a car should have.
    Recently trying raceroom was awesome, thar feeling of weight shift and the tyres actually moving underneath you like they are on something was a suprise for me, I instantly loved it and purchased the premium pack and went racing online.
    It's very early days on raceroom for me but I already feel like there's a reason to race unlike ACC, platinum on ACC comes wayyy to quickly and from then on you are racing for fun only, they need to drop everyone's rank on the game and make platinum a real achievement to get because its pretty boring to race for nothing and you must fine leagues and stuff to make it worthwhile. Raceroom seems to have a better approach with its ranking system. I will say the racing is far cleaner in ACC, there's an unwritten gentleman's agreement where most drivers don't dive you if you are in a battle, raceroom is far more BTCC im coming through and using your door to do it kind of racing and while I love it I think its on the edge of being unfair racing, luckily the penalty system seems well worked out aswell so far.
    So glad I tried raceroom though, very fun, I hope more people flock to it, they just need to keep the update momentum up.

In the original AC Zandvort is not scanned, but in ACC it is (Edit: while searching for a source on this I found out I was wrong. Zandvoort is still not laser scanned on ACC). And Nurburgring GP is not lazer-scanned in Raceroom, only the Nordschleife is.

      Thanks! I recall hearing one of the Kunos devs mention that people really liked their original version of Zandvoort (reportedly done for them by another company, or something to that effect) so they only spruced it up to add into ACC. It'd be great if you could point me to where they said it's laser scanned so I could course correct.
      That makes sense about the GP circuit. I mentioned the lack of granular feeling of FFB in R3E here, assuming it was the FFB, but it's likely to be the track surface itself then. It also explains the hugely inaccurate curbing.

    Both great sims. The "unforgiveness" of curbs in ACC is something that comer since the beta stages, it is better now, but Race Room simulates better the tires' rub softness and therefore behaves better in the curbs. You frequently see an F1 car taking curbs more aggressively than you can do in ACC for that reason. The thing is, these two never were better than know, including in AI races.

    As a casual player of both these, my take is this:
    I like ACC because you can customize your liveries. There is also a career mode which I think is a good way to get into things without having to jump directly into multiplayer. The weather and time dynamics is a plus also I think as it adds dimentions to the game.
    Raceroom is nice because one can do a lot of driving without spending any money at all. For me personally, it is also big plus that it features the main swedish tracks (which I also got 'for free', together with the some Porsche models, as member in Porsche Club Sweden. Particularily nice as that car is as similar as it gets to my own road car). In general, the number of tracks available in Raceroom is formidable and I suppose many will be able to find a track close to home which they may actually go to and drive for an IRL track day. That they are not laser scanned, well, with my cheap sim gear I'm not sure I notice any difference to be honest.
    Overall I'd say Raceroom is primarily focused on the driving part where ACC is (in addition) more into the whole strategy with pitstops, weather effects etc. To some extent ACC feels a lot 'deeper' compared to Raceroom and then again, Raceroom also has a much wider range of different cars and tracks one can drive. I would though expect that maybe Raceroom will narrow the scope a bit when it comes to these over time. Probably for the better.

    I haven't loaded up R3E in probably more than 3 years. Still to this day, not ONE racing title (whether simulator, simcade, arcade, whatever) has come CLOSE to having sound as immersive as R3E.
    I'm an audiophile and produce my own music, giving me years of audio engineering experience. The people behind R3E (don't know how many of you remember GTR 2 back in 2005, but it's the same developers essentially) outdid themselves when implementing audio into the game.
    My main is classic AC. I play other sims as a change of pace. Now that I have a slightly nicer system, and the FF model has been modernized, I'll have to go back to R3E for some laps. The sounds in that game remind you that yes, indeed, you are driving a monster.
    Other games, though they have incredible sound as well, just seem too digitized and processed. R3E is raw, and that's how racers, car fans, and audiophiles like myself prefer things.
    And now I'll stop gushing.

    The hardest part for me is the sound. I really can't pick.
    To me, ACC sounds more accurate, but more... "closed", like it's a very directional sound.
    RRE sound more generic in a way, but it feels like it's filling the whole space.
    Weird
    Edit: Raceroom seems to have a lot more bass? I think that's why it seems to fill up the space more
    Edit 2: 13:57 so ermin agrees, raceroom does have a lot more low end. Weird decision by kunos indeed

    • @flo_h_96

      Actually I would say the opposite, ACC sounds are a bit overdone, a bit more artificial, therefore most people say it has the best sound, but it is because the cars sound better than they do in real life. Whereas in Raceroom the sounds are more realistic. So the cars sound like the real ones. And so sometimes they sound less good than the one in ACC but that's because they car sounds less good than in ACC in real life too

    I was left wondering about ACC's sound engineer squelching the low end as well. R3E just sounds so much more alive and "in person" rather then the "over a cell phone" of ACC.
    I run my sound through a pair of Mackie HR824's and when leaving R3E after an hours session and starting up ACC, it's immediately obvious that there are so many bands clipped from the sound mix that it makes me very sad. Do NOT buy through Steam wallet, instead go to raceroomstore dot com and buy the pack of these "vRP", it will save you some money.

    OK, lets really think about this for one sec...we're talking about splitting hairs throughout this head-head, ACC and RR?? ACC is a one trick pony...boring.GT3-4.that's it! Which is fine if that is your thing. They (ACC) working with the latest and greatest new graphics engines, Kunos also being the bigger of the two teams...So. HELL yes, it damn well should be better, in fact it should smoke RR...but it doesn't. Can you just imagine what Sector 3 could do if they were able to add a couple people to the team, update the graphics engine??
    I think what gets totally missed or at least heavily under-stated. it what Sector 3 is able to accomplish on shoestring budgets, that they offer their hard work to anyone for FREE and its a significant amount of content...who else does that? Who else lets you test drive use their DLC before you buy?? Who else will let you compete in selected events...for prizes..... and not pay one red cent???
    IMHO the SiM community has a gift, and for the most part, they've overlooked or tossed in the corner to collect dust, and that is a damn shame, as RR is a diamond in the rough. WE need to support, give the smaller devs (who are amazing people) not sure I can say the same for some of the KUNOS uber egos. Give the gang at Sector 3 a chance, what do you really have to lose, some HD space?

The details is amazing and Kunos has worked with not just the manufacturers but also the racing team themselves. It's a lot more intricate and and a lot more realistic than rre.
