God I love your content! I love how you have absolutely zero fluff or bullshit. Straight to the point, fluent, naturally spoken, calm. You guys are the absolute GOATs for this content. Davinci needs to buy all your content for their own resources. Holy moly!
Thanks 😊 You get us! We try to keep our content as to the point as possible. Glad it's appreciated. Thanks for commenting.
So glad they’ve finally added subtractive saturation with COLOR SLICE - Wicked!
It's also in the film look creator tool too!
I'm so happy that you guys are releasing so many videos. I know you were hard at work on the course, and I am super excited about it. The quality and professionalism of your videos is simply unmatched among resolve trainers.
Thaaaank-you! Got three more videos on Resolve 19 to come. Hopefully they will all be out by Sunday. Taking time to edit and RENDER!
Been playing with Defocus effect this morning, and found a great use for it... Create TWO nodes with the same effect settings, but one with the "inverted mask" checked. You can then keyframe the blend effect of each so it transitions from one to the other. This in effect creates a focus pull over time and if used well on a certain scene, is a neat little post production trick and nice transition into another scene.
PS: That colour slices is a game changer. I get sick of colour correcting with the curves pages or hue to sat and sat to lum etc and getting lost. This is a one stop shop where you can see everything clearly now.
That's an awesome idea! Love it. Might have to feature that in a video in the future.
@@team2films Thanks. I also did something similar with the audio.... I duplicated my audio track, and had one with just the voice, and the other with the voice muted. So in effect I could edit effects to each, such as pitch and reverb to the voice without affecting background. I have found that the remixer does a better job of separating out the voice than the voice separator tool. Maybe because that tool tries to separate out the ambient from the vocals, not sure. I just know that it wasn't doing as good a job.
@@ArcanePath360 That's cool, another interesting technique. Thanks for sharing.
@@team2films Thank you. Feel free to credit me when you become famous from it, lol. 🤣
This is a checkmate software update… Man I appreciate BlackMagic Design so much. Excellent breakdown video as well
Glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching!
You guys are quick with quality content! I'm terrable at colorgrading, but this update seems to benefit me greatly. Subscribed!
Thank-you. Keep on going, practice makes perfect :)
Good work T2f. Always worth waiting for your vids to appear.
Thank-you so much! More content coming later today :)
Another fantastic how to from Team 2 Films. As usual, to the point. So clear, and easy to understand. Thank you, keep up the good work. (Production value really high, looks great).
Thank-you so much! Got three more v19 related videos to come. Just as quick as we can finish the editing and Render them!
Excelent guide, thank you so much!
You are welcome!
I am amazed by your straight-to-the-point explanation. I sat through two arduous, self-important videos trying to describe what the colour slice does and it hurt. Your demonstration and explanation was just great. Thank you.
Thank-you John! We appreciate you watching and commenting 😊
Everyone on YT is rushing around and putting out a video just to be first, you guys take your time, but, the videos you produce are very professional and very informative. Thanks, good job!!
Thanks so much! Although I must admit, we felt a little bit of a rush getting these done!!!! So glad you are enjoying them.
@@team2films Always take your time, it always pays off. Like from now on, something new comes out, I know where to look for quality content.
@@reyvaz2951 Thanks :)
An excellent summary of the new color features! 👏🏻
Thanks Jason, appreciate you commenting. Have fun at NAB.
Resolve 19 was a bombshell in itself, but then he showed the cameras...
Yeah, that's wild. Looking forward to getting our hands on them.
Brilliant as always. Thanks a million!
Thanks for commenting :)
Thanks man for ur effort♥
Our pleasure!
the best content by far, and I love the look of your videos, lens, editing and color. Congratulations!
Thanks so much!
Nice presentation. You guys have a way of speaking that just seems so confident. I think when presenting new information that's a really important trait.
Just a few notes from me - People should still in my opinion use the film look at or very near the end of the node tree. It is tempting to do that earlier and I have actually seen some youTubers suggest it to be up front - but anything that has texture should always be after any smoothing, including blurring or smoothing ( even power windows with smooth edges. It's simple to see with Resolve's regular film grain because you can turn just the grain on in the OFX. Anyone that wants to see the result on the grain of blurring or smoothing etc. - try turning that on and putting it on the first node and it is obvious right away that any smoothing after - completely ruins the grain.
The check box to make it 3d LUT compatible - not sure if all your viewers are aware that stuff like Film Grain, Contrast pop, Midtone detail, NR, Blur, Texture Pop,Highlights,Shadow etc, can't be written to a LUT.
So having that checkbox and being able to make it compatible means that you can hone the overall look that a DP or camera op can apply on set for a display LUT. So really glad they included that to quickly turn it on or off while developing and writing the display LUT for production.
The Color slice looks really a good add on. So much so that 5 minutes into Daria's demo - my phone was pinging with my DCTL developer friends with concerns. I would have liked to be able to extract it and move it around. I think that when Resolve adds anything the extract window should be on any new stuff. I already have problems seeing the color wheels on the color slicer already, and was looking for the extract.
The defocus background OFX - I don't see any benefit to at all if we have to set a mask with other OFX in conjunction. The example you gave - adding the masked image to a layer mask would do the same thing.
And on that layer mask you could use another gradient mask and have the blur intensify as it gets further away.
Now what I see little talk about is the one thing that I have mentioned to BMD engineers and people in charge - was to fix the Face Refinement tool - which I think for me is the best thing in this version update but I haven't seen if the editable tracking works because once I updated, I can't find a clip that I know the tracking went off and I couldn't use it before. Was hoping that you had tested it and found if it is now useable.
I always thought that was one of the OFX that had the most potential in the past, but doing 20 clips of a person and then all of a sudden, clip 21 won't track, had me ( and others ) have to manually recreate the plug-in with power windows and adjustments. Which made it useless, so myself and others just went back to how we were doing it before - so fingers crossed on that one. Hopefully we can track and when the tracking goes haywire, we can fix it.
But again thanks for you input on some of the new updates. cheers
Thanks Jim always appreciate hearing from you in the comments. We're glad people are enjoying the new v19 features.
- Yes, we agree that the Film Look Creator should typically be used at the end of your image pipeline.
- Being able to undock the color slice seems like a reasonable request.
- There's definitely some features like face refine that we've not covered yet. I feel like there will be a 'v19 things we missed in our initial videos' video that we will make in a weeks time.
- Regarding DeFocus, the existing blur tools will produce haloing around people as demonstrated, so the new effect is needed.
Thanks Jim
@@team2films re:defocus - even when the mask is on a layer node and the defocus is done underneath it?
@@JimRobinson-colors If I'm understanding what you are saying... yes I think so. Regular blur tools blur the foreground into the 'defocus' effect, even when fed a mask. DeFocus needs the mask to to tell it what parts of the image are the background. It then extends the background behind the subject before blurring it. That's where the secret sauce is.
@@team2films Yes - which is exactly what a mask in a layer node would do- like animation the node ( on the bottom ) will block anything under it. Just trying to see what the difference would be.
DaVinci Resolve 19 is amazing! Thanks for the info.
Pleasure, thanks for watching.
Once again I find myself watching your channel. Quality stuff people, thx!
Welcome back! Glad you came back :)
Nice review of the new features.
@StefanRingelschwandtner Thanks Stefan. Would love to get into your DCTLs at some point.
I said it before, but your videos are incredibly useful. Thank you!
We like hearing it again though! Thanks Martin.
Charming and professional!
Thanks Mike!
I absolute love the film simulation feature! saves me a huge amount of time and assures a more consistent look to my work.
Yeah, they've done an awesome job with it.
Подробно с примерами. Было интересно😎
Thank-you
I also have to say, the thumbnail for this vid is fire, great job
Hey! Thank-you so much. Wasn't sure about this one, but I'm so pleased that people are liking it.
Muito bom!
drs19 will be my new adobe camera raw :DDD
Hi, Thanks for great review! ❤ Could you use the color slice tools with your Resolve Mini Panel? Does it updated to the Resolve 19?
Sorry, I don't think the color slice tool is accessible from the micro panel.
Thanks for the review. Could you tell which lenses were used to shoot this video?
We're shooting the PTC on the Atlas Mercury A-Set. I think the PTC is the 36mm. The footage used in the demos is from a mixture of lenses: DZOFilm Catta Ace, Canon L EF, Zeiss Milvus Superspeed, Canon Summiere. Thanks for watching.
What is a display trim? Very good content!!
A display trim is a grading pass that alters an image that was graded to be displayed in a particular colour space to now be displayed in another colour space. i.e. re-mastering a grade that was produce for HDR to now display in SDR.
Love the animation with resolve 19 logo. Was it made in davinci?
Will the course include the new features ??
Heya... yes all the animations in our videos are created in Fusion. We'll try to do some videos on this in the future.
The course focuses on editing in Resolve. There's a whole module on Colour and there's a whole module on Fairlight. But the other 6 modules are all about editing and media management.
We do discuss studio features, but we always offer a non-studio alternative in the course.
So, no the course doesn't focus on the new features, but I think you'd be surprised at how much core functionality there is in Resolve that you've not yet discovered. The most useful features aren't always the most glamorous. Check out the sample lesson (4.3) to get a flavour of how thorough the course is.
Auto balance RGB mixer is huuuge.
Yeah, it's awesome for making looks too.
Do you happen to know how long it takes for a version to get out of beta historically? Looking forward to using v19 but have to wait for the official release
Not too sure, would have to check what the rollout was like last year.
I hope that the color slice works in a different color space than HSL or HSV
Good question
This a better version of 3x3 matrix? Can we use color slice for a Look Dev?
1. Not sure. 2. Absolutely yes.
How this new implemented tools
Would work on Davinci panels ?
Yes, I'm sure there will be support on the mini and advanced panels for these tools.
Hey. Great explanation, Man... Although I know the Blackmagic's trait. But still, has they confirmed Resolve 19 Studio to be available free for 18 users?
Yes, Studio licenses are perpetual. You never have to pay for upgrades.
Where your music com from mate? Can you tell please the one you used at the intro?
It's from Audiio.
Digital Moss - Hyna Ruje
@@team2films thanks , i learned a lot from your channel, keep feeding us with creativity❤️
@@NashIflare Will do! Thanks for watching.
Great video as usual! But your
chapter titles are all wrong. Seems to be copy and paste from your video regarding the new audio features.
Thank-you thank-you@! Fixing now.
Do these tools render things like Dehancer obsolete?
The Film Look Creator is not as sophisticated as Dehancer. There are people who will be more than satisfied with the Film Look Creator. There will be others who need the more complex tools offered by tools like Dehancer.
are theese feature only available for paid versions?
Most of these features are studio only. Some of the minor features we discussed are in the free version too. In future videos, we'll put graphics on screen to show which features are studio and which are not.
19 is still kinda buggy on playback and does weird color shifts, hopefully fixed soon. Still, good on export. The look creator tool is nice for quick bleach bypass.
Yeah! That's to be expected from a beta, but it's amazing that its still totally usable.
@@team2films but if you expect this from a beta, make it possible to install it side-by-side with the stable version (like Adobe does it) and don't force the users to become paying beta-testers.
@@tvncgn Good point. Yeah, you can do that. It's just not the default behaviour. On a Mac, rename your existing install of Resolve to something like 'Resolve 18.6'. Then the beta installer won't overwrite your existing installation.
@@team2films I'm not sure, if that will work on PC. Maybe there are files in "Common" or other folders that will be overwritten and cause problems with the stable version. Has anyone tried it?
On film creator i don’t have all the settings im on the studio version??
Oh really!? Can you provide more specific information?
@@team2films no it must of been a glitch or the wrong layer but i did it to another clips and it was enabled
@@cizcutproductionso sorted now?
@@team2films yes thanks
i put 19 beta over studio 18.6.6 and I'm getting the red 'no media', i researched and used all the fixes i could find but no luck, my licence key didn't copy over either, is 19 out of beta now ? i noticed the beta download was about half the size of the 18 one, I'm on windows 10.
No definitely still in beta, and it will be for a while. I’m not sure what is causing your media offline issues. I’m sure there is a reason and a solution though.
@@team2films all sorted, the first beta file being only half the size of studio beta gave me the clue, I'd downloaded the public beta and not the studio beta, that would also explain why the 'deactivate license' wasn't showing in the help tab.
Resolve 19 has not been released for me... i have Resolve Studio v18.6.6 why didn't i get the Resolve 19 update??
It’s in BETA. You need to download it from the website.
@@team2films nahh, i'll wait for the actual release of Resolve 19... Beta versions are usually full of bugs... i'll use CapCut while i wait...
you know about capcut's spyware and who the owners owners are ?
@@jazzstream spyware?? what are you talking about??
Did you try this in 8bit footage?
No, not yet. It will work the same way though, just with a little less precision.
did they fix the bugs that have persisted over the years
Which ones? There's always improvements in every version to stability.
"Cheap film cameras have poor registration" really expensive film cameras are affected by gate weave, this is a well known phenomenon that gets better when increasing celluloid size, but really expensive 16mm and 35mm cameras can have bad gate weave.
Thanks so much for watching.
The comment in the video is a generalisation. Typically cheaper film cameras do have worse registration and more expensive ones have better registration. Also, some cameras lack registration pins and others have one, and yet others have two. There are other factors that affect a camera's registration. And obviously registration is also dependent on the camera being properly maintained.
Great to have you here.
Wait what? The M1 Max is NOT powerful enough for realtime playback on Ultra NR?!! Jeez! and I was thinking of getting one! What machine would be “powerful enough”
There are lots of effects that exceed the processing power of even more powerful computers. That's where render caching comes in. That will get you your super smooth playback without issues :)
Also, don't forget this feature is still in beta, so I'm sure it will be optimised in the future.
We'd like to test the new M3 Max when we get a chance :)
@@team2films ahhhh true! Beta version. Got so hyped I forgot that 😂😂
Budget doesn’t allow for other than M1 Max.
Great overview of the color features. The most detailed I’ve seen so far 🤗
Davinci Resolve Public Beta is out* see I corrected you
... and it's a pity that you can't install it side-by-side with the current stable version. Replacing the software you have to work with to make money with a beta, is a stupid idea.
@@tvncgn I don't install beta software on my computer
why color changed here? 10:52
What color difference? We can't see one at 10:52. Are we missing something?
@@team2films watch again sir
For me, it's a bit of disappointing because I was waiting for some improvement in fusion like time displacement node, shatter effect etc.
Yeah, would be great to see some more features introduced Fusion! Who knows maybe we'll get a .5 release later in the year.
Thanks for the video.
I would really appreciate it if you didn't use those weird effects you used in the showcase with that window shadow the slight turn... it was really off-putting.
We're so sorry! You mean the split screen with two windows? Do you prefer to just see the entire screen? We'll see if others have the same feedback.
@@team2films No the Split screen is good. I like seeing both. But u used some kind of PowerPoint effect where the picture gets turned like a 3D Object and a fake shadow is underneath.. it distorts the picture and lokks weird imo
What weird music is that I was looking for mosquitos around ears. 😅
Haha! Sorry!
You copy pasted the time stamps from your Audio update video
Thank-you!!! Fixing
