DaVinci Resolve is a video editing software developed by Blackmagic Design. Its most recent version is DaVinci Resolve which works on personal computers with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.
It combines professional tools to edit, color, compose visual effects, create graphic animations and mix audio in one program. Professional-quality audio editing, color grading, visual effects, and post-production.
Its modern interface is extremely easy to use, ideal for beginners, but also very complete for professionals. In addition, the program allows you to carry out faster and higher quality work dynamics, thanks to the fact that it is not necessary to learn to use multiple applications or change software.

▶Many of you ask if it can be done with a Depth Map, but I do not recommend it since in the gray areas (zones with less intensity of the depth map) when applying the blur effect, it will create a ghosting effect.
This guy is to the point. No nonsense. Much appreciated.
great work here! Thank you for the content you produce! It's super appreciated.
Best DR tuts I ever found on YT, straight to the point with great examples! Thank you Sergio!!
Thank you for the support 27th-ms! I'm glad you're enjoying the new tutorials ^^

Thankyou Again for a video packed with only useful information and the Turtle gasping 🤣🤣
Very detailed & informative, more tutorials pls
Love your tutorials so much!
I can’t find the defocus effect on my resolve tho
Please do you have any idea why ?
Hi, thank you very much! Make sure the version is Davinci Resolve Studio 19, it's a new effect.
Thank you for the detailed tutorial! But apart from the anamorphic feature is it any different in previous versions that you use mask then blur?
Basically, it's the same, but in my experience, 'Gaussian blur' looked good when applied separately, whereas 'lens blur' did not perform as well. However, this might have been due to the videos that I used. I can't be 100% sure since I haven't made many comparisons. *I also tried using 'Depth Map', but lowering the opacity of the blur doesn't work well, as it blends with the original video.
Why not use the depth map functionality?
Holy shit, i almost spit my coffee on the screen when this turtle meme popped up 😂🤣 this f***ing guy bro @Sergio Mota
😂😂🐢
How this looks compared to depth map + depth blur (in Fusion), in particular compared the edge of a sharp object where foreground and background are separated?
Depth Map reduces the intensity of the blur (Opacity) and blends with the original video, it doesn't look good. If you apply blur, it should be at 100%.
Depth map is not useful to create the right depth separation for the blur?
I recorded a similar tutorial using Depth Map but ultimately decided not to publish it. The problem is that reducing the opacity of the blur (the areas with less intensity in Depth Map) creates a strange blurring effect that doesn't look natural. Because the original video and a blur overlay merge together and it looks strange.
how about using depth map instead of three magic masks ?
Yes, you can also make the selection with a Depth Map. The only thing is that the gray areas (zones with less intensity) in my opinion, do not look very good when applying blur.
does it work on davinci resolve free
👍
Bro can you provide me the Clip you used in tutorial?
These are the official test clips from Blackmagic cameras; you can download these clips from the official website.
@@SergiomotaENG ok thanks brother
Can you provide link bro?
No option to select "Defocus Background"
Wonder why they don’t add 90 rotate blur in advanced tab?
Hi dpixvid! If you're referring to the anamorphic option, I believe it's not associated with degrees. Increasing it distorts horizontally, and decreasing it does so vertically, but very subtly. That's why I increase the blur afterward. That's why setting the value to 0.2 (minimum) results in completely vertical blur distortion.
@@SergiomotaENG I hear you but stretching the bokeh balls vertical to ovals would go a long way to selling it better... maybe can combine with motion blur at 90 degrees...
@@dpixvid Just as I do in the video, it distorts completely vertically. Keep in mind that in the example with the woman in the subway there aren't many lights, so you won't be able to see many 'bokeh balls'. On the train tracks, you can see 4 from some reflections, and verify that they are vertical. At minute 5:07, as I increase and decrease the blur, it can be clearly seen. Don't worry, it is exactly 90 degrees.
@@SergiomotaENG thanks for vid!
Who in particular are the people that don't use this function correctly? what are the names of those who are doing this wrong? I Must know!
O.K I watched the video, it was I who did not do this correctly.
Haha, I don't know names, but especially people who aren't familiar with photography or videography. There are a lot of beginners who don't even know what depth of field is. That's why I thought about including that part in the video; I believe it can help a lot of people.
😂😂😂
Thxs!
Dont have the defocus in Effects .. I have the Paid version 🤔
It is only available in DR19
@@SergiomotaENG OH thx .. Mhm I have 18.6.6 .. But is samstag the Software is up to date ?
EDIT .. 19 Is a Beta version. Thats why ^^?
It still doesn't look right in the second clip. Areas of the floor closest to the woman shouldn't be as blurry as the deeper background, and it makes it look fake
For now, this is the most realistic we can achieve. With the "depth map" effect, we can't do it because all it does is modify the opacity/transparency of the blur. It would be nice to be able to apply more or less blur depending on the areas, instead of just reducing the opacity, but currently, it's not possible.
@@SergiomotaENG Yeah I tried the depth map yesterday and it does an incredible job, only issue is that it is very taxing on the laptop so playback is minimal, so this would be the last thing to achieve after the grade
@@leebrandt8597 Well, my results were not good with Depth Map, as it creates a blurred layer of blur that doesn't look realistic, meaning the blur effect mixes with the original sharp image.
@@SergiomotaENG Not sure what you mean by that. But I did find myself toning down the blur to 2.8 since the 4 default seem way too much and unrealistic. Bottom line, I hope that the new background blur effect improves over time
Too much work!
I simply opened my wallet and bought the $80,000 lens.
Works great and no "selecting" BS needed.
Exactly! And if we take out the $300 from Davinci, it's only a $79,700 difference, but hey, for anyone willing to work more, they have this little trick haha
Do you consider this to be a tutorial video? If so, WHY do you have background MUSIC. Have you EVER seen a professor ANYWHERE play background MUSIC while teaching the class?
NO, why not? Because music CAN ME a distraction. How many of us were distracted with this MUSIC???????????
I have seen teachers with background music, like a Zumba instructor, for example.
P.S.: I am not a teacher nor is this a class; I'm just someone who uploads videos. I like to have background music, and if that's a problem, then my videos are not for you.
The music isn't that loud either; if it were drowning out the voice or making it hard to understand, then I would understand the concern.
Ironic that the first recommended video on your channel (nail removal instructions) has music behind it…
@@dennisdksing SOME of us learn from our mistakes that was my 16 video. I stopped later on.
If you can not learn from our mistakes than this conversation is OVER.
Good my have a GREAT life making MUSIC VIDEOS!!
@@SergiomotaENG None of these creators use background music in any of there videos. Jason Yadlovski 105K, Alex Cameron - Depiqd 15.2K, Casey Faris 436K, Skills Factory 449K, Howfinity 867K, Patrick Stirling 52.5K, Jamie Fenn 278K, Quanta 40.4K, Primal Video
1.6M, Dani Krossing 469K, Net Ninja 1.43M, Bro Code 1.2M and the list goes on and on.
As you can see these creators have millions of subs. BUT I am SURE they are all doing it WRONG at least according to you.
Have a great live creating your MUSIC VIDEOS!
@@davescorneroftheworld1147 I haven't said that tutorials without music are wrong; I've said that I like having background music. If this creators offer advice, I'll consider it, given their experience. However, you can't demand things from people just because you dislike something, since these videos aren't private for you, and you don't pay me a salary for it. For now, I'll continue creating tutorials the way I would like to see them and as people enjoy it.
