When I was a dumb pre-teen (think I was 9), my friend and I chucked rocks at trains. I found a *GIANT ROCK* , which I saved for the next train. The next train was a bullet train and I threw that rock as hard as I could. It near-perflectly deflected back at the direction I threw it at, *BUT TWICE THE SPEED* . I didn't even see it return, but I FELT the air as it missed my face by less than an inch. My friend looked terrified and said, that the rock almost hit me (and at that speed I'd either be permanently disabled or dead). After that I never did anything stupid or unsafe like that again. It was stupid, and I'm truly thankful my parents didn't have to go through seeing their son mangled or buried

4:54. I have never understood how parents can let children who don’t know how to swim even NEAR the water
Maybe it’s because I grew up near the Southern Cali. Coast where learning to swim comes shortly after learning to walk, but still…

Was on a jumping tower in a lake as a kid. Went up and jumped down into the water 20-ish times in less than 2 hours. I was completely tired but didnt stop. After the last jump, I just noticed that I couldnt keep going forward at the same time as keeping my head up. "Uh-oh, almost swallowed water, better go up a bit... Hmm, but why cant i push myself forward now? Weird. I hope nobody notices me failing at swimming out of the way." Thankfully some guy noticed and pulled me on the lower platform of the tower. I was drowning and didnt even notice.

When I was 5 my brother (9) gave me an eggcup with a ‘potion’ in it that would endow me with the ability to fly. So I gulped it down, I clearly remember how salty it was. He told me to climb up the rungs of the slippery dip and stand at the top, which I did, then he announced the countdown to my maiden flight and when he yelled ‘ZERO’ I jumped off the side, wildly flapping my arms all the way down to the ground. My left arm had changed shape (now an S shape) and I couldn’t breathe (winded) and when I looked for him he had disappeared. Once I could breathe again my arm began to hurt like billy-o and I started to scream.
My mother ran out of the house and bundled me up, putting me into the car....to take me to hospital.
Turns out my brother had mixed a lot of salt with water as his potion and when I jumped from the slippery dip he ran away to one of his friends’ places nearby and never let on about what he’d done...cool as a cucumber.
If I’d’ve landed headfirst I’m pretty sure I’d’ve ceased to exist, kicked the bucket, taken a dirt nap etc.
(Same brother 2 years later broke my right arm by karate chopping it).
Oh, and 4 years after that he shot my other brother through the neck when we were out shooting rabbits (pests here in Oz) with small caliber rifles out the back of buttf’ck in Central NSW. My other brother survived and wore the bullet on a leather strap around his neck for years afterward....
    Happy times....

When I was a kid, 4-5, I was running around a pool with a towel wrapped around my neck like a scarf. I stepped on the towel and yanked myself face first into the concrete, lnpcking myself out for several minutes. Im 32 now and still have an obvious scar on my forehead. Another one was tripping in the woods behind my house while exploring alone(I was around 13) and gashing the side of my neck on a sharp branch, looked like it was cut down about 6-8 inches from the ground to clear space for surveyers for a new development that construction began on later that year, if I had fallen even a centimeter or two further to the right it would have impaled my throat.

Hospital after another surgery. No food, water after midnight. 6am pushed back, and back till 4pm surgery (no food, water) @7pm back in room, given container of ice, and a nuked “Lean Cuisine” rice with sweet/sour IIRC. I am hungry, shovel spoonful, chew, swallow, swallow, try to get water, try to breath. I could barely breath, hit call, call out (not very loud). “A little help”
3 nurses come in. I point to bottle of Mt Dew on shelf. They get it, I drink, finally get it down. I apologized. “When we heard you call for help. We knew it had to be bad, you collapsed on the toilet, and demanded to clean yourself up, and drag yourself out”. Some felt bad since they knew I was dehydrated… and rice…. I thought. I survive all this and choke to death on a meal?
But as I said I was getting some air exchange. It’s not the first time I couldn’t breath.

I almost died from choking on raw pasta. Now, unlike many of these other stories, no one could’ve helped me. So to make more sense of it, let me set the scene. I was in 3rd grade, my mom was dead asleep on the couch in the other room, my sibling was in their room on the other side of the house and my dad was on a business trip. I had this weird habit of eating raw pasta, usually just one or two at a time. But this time, I had the bright idea to eat 5 at once. After chewing up all of them like a fucking beaver, I started choking. I just thought, “Oh wow, I’m gonna die in the stupidest way possible and no one’s gonna know what happened.” At the time I still had hope in the world so I began gagging to try and regurgitate the pasta. I eventually managed to and just spit it all over the floor. I stood there for a few seconds before cleaning it up and I didn’t tell anyone for 3 months. Good times

    • @crowcussion
      @crowcussion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just remembered another one. This was like 7th grade so my stupidity can’t really be written off as being young. I was laying in my mom’s bed rolling around because that’s what I do and still do. I had the bright idea to try and squeeze through some metal bars in the end of the bed. My neck got stuck and I could barely breathe. I just started calling my mom and she kept saying “Hold on..” so I got frustrated and started yelling because I was about to pass out. Once she came in and helped me get out, I just looked at her grumpily because of how long it took her to come get me

And wow I just thought of another one. This time I was in 5th grade. Me and my sibling were in the creek behind our house looking for weird shit. I decided to climb a tree because why not. Turns out the tree was rotting. My sibling was gonna tell me, but they knew I would climb it anyways, which is true. So I got about halfway up before the branch broke and I fell backwards before the branch fell on top of me. And the part that almost killed me? I fell between 2 giant rocks. If I hit them, I would be dead. Honestly I don’t know how I’m not dead

    • @crowcussion
      @crowcussion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh boy it’s another one. This one happened multiple times so I’m not gonna elaborate as much as I did with the other 3. So my grandma has a pool that I would always go swimming in during the summer, mainly because I get overheated so easily. My family would throw in sink toys and I would get them only going underwater once. I almost drowned so many times. At least 15 times. Even better, no one ever dived in to save me no matter how long I was underwater. Thanks family

Another one happened yesterday. When am I gonna stop almost dying. Anyways, there was a lot of snow so me and my friend decided to go sledding. My dad came with us. After we got to the bottom, we found a gap between the fence that let us into the creek next to the hill. We found an at least 50 foot hill that was almost straight down. So we rolled down it. It was fun until we realized we couldn’t get up. We started to panic before we went up 2 different ways and got up after 20 minutes. We had to explain to my dad that we were fine and that we weren’t dead. Honestly thought we were gonna die but it’s was fun so it was worth it

I thought it was funny to- uh.. hold a cinder block and hop in the pool (i was like 7 when i did it)
I was under the water for a solid 4-5 minutes- i was still conscious but my body gave up on breathing after about 2 minutes, and i let go of the block and accepted my death. finally after about 3 minutes of not seeing me i heard my Fathers Yells for me, and then i saw his water distorted face, he also spotted me and then he jumped in and pulled me out, i was expecting to be frantically crying and gasping for air but i was just laying on his shoulder Realizing i almost died.
After he got me out and i dried off and changed My dad then Was franticly checking on me while i was playing Wii Sports Resort and ABSOLUTELY DEMOLISHING a mf in Basketball

In 3rd grade (about 30 years ago) I was sucking on a butterscotch disc candy. It slipped into my throat and prevented me from breathing. I tried to cough it up to no avail. I got up and ran out of the classroom and down the hall to the water fountain. I couldn't get any water to pass by it and by this time I was freaking out bad, so I finally ran to the nurses office. God bless that woman! She saw exactly what was happening and wasted no time performing the Heimlich maneuver on me. The candy shot across the room, I began hyperventilating, and eventually regained control of my breathing and calmed down. I was psychologically incapable of eating those things for the next 20+ years. I could eat starlight mints, cinnamon discs, and any other candy that was exactly the same size and shape, but I was scared of butterscotch discs. Then one day, I really wanted the butterscotch flavor so I cautiously ate my first butterscotch disc in over 20 years successfully and now I rarely eat candy at all. But I still very much enjoy the butterscotch flavor. In total, I would estimate the candy was choking me for at least 90 seconds, perhaps 2 minutes before I was able to get help. It felt like 10 minutes minimum but I know that's not realistic.
Also, I couldn't ask permission to leave class because I was choking. I don't think my teacher had any idea that anything was happening. I don't believe she came after me or anything. The nurse gave me a pass to return to class after allowing me to rest for like 10 or 15 minutes to regain my bearings. I don't remember what happened after but I do know I didn't get in trouble for ditching class like that, probably due to the extremely urgent, time sensitive, life threatening circumstance....
Edit: The question is "dumbest way" you almost died. I've almost died many times and I might have actually died once. (Long story, no one at the time would tell me for certain, but I have bipolar and attempted it somehow. I have no memory of it though. I only remember waking up in the hospital feeling really weird.) That said, probably the dumbest way was carelessly climbing radio towers...
It took way too long to climb hundreds of feet so we did lots of free climbing, meaning we weren't attached to the tower 100% of the time. OSHA would have shut down the company I worked for if they had ever spied on us. We broke lots of safety rules. My closest call happened when I was bringing a pulley and rope up 200 feet to remove an antenna that was no longer being used. I didn't pay attention when hooking it to myself so when I got to about 110 or 120 feet, the rope got tangled around my leg and harness. As a result, it jerked me at one point, almost pulling me right off the tower. Fortunately, I went up first, which means the other guy who went up with me that day was below me, which made it much easier for him to access the tangled part of the rope. He got it all fixed up and we completed the job that day with no further issues. 🙂🙂🙂

Once at a summer camp I had a random heart palpitation. (at least, that’s what I think it was) I just remember my heart going absurdly fast, feeling like I couldn’t breathe, hurriedly excusing myself to go sit on a nearby table, and putting my head down trying to take deep breaths. After it passed I just felt tired and wanted to go home. The weird thing is that I don’t/didn’t have any medical conditions and nothing had been happening that would precedent that, it just happened. I thought I was going to die.

Tl;dr I jaywalked behind a crowd of people and nearly got flattened by a Ryder Semi-truck.
Long version: me and my friend Nate were going on the Detroit Riverwalk, this connects to the Renaissance Center and at the time the Joe Louis arena. Anyways we just got out of the public area of the Ren Cen and were simply walking on the sidewalk so we had to cross the street. There was a massive crowd of people more than three quarters of the way across even though the crossing signal was red since the road was completely empty at the time. I started following them but my friend warned me saying 'Watch out!' I stopped, and turned towards him to ask what he's worried about when a semi passed in front of me inches from where I was standing. It was the only vehicle that was on that street and the only vehicle we saw that day when we waited for the walking signal.

Maybe not dumbest, but scariest, was wounded in Nam, given 10% chance of surviving the night. Woke up out of a morphine coma, it felt like a knife was in my chest, red hot, and being twisted, the Doctors and Nurses rushed in, seems a bullet that had been left in behind my heart was causing a heart attack. The doctors didn't have time to wear masks, gloves, or gowns. Didn't have time to knock me out, the nurses painted my chest with some sort of orange disinfectant. The doctors were marking where they would cut and the tray of surgical tools were brought up, they were going to crack my chest open with some sort of weird instrument. Just as they reached for the scalpel to start cutting the pain stopped. They paused and said the bullet must of moved , they waited for about 30 minutes then canceled the grand opening and I went back to sleep in my morphine fog. At the time I thought of the Aztes cutting the hearts out of there prisoners, definitely an intense 30 minutes.

OMG MY TURN TO SHINE (sort of...)
-> FIRST ONE : almost fell from the Eifell Tower when I was a kid because the wind was too strong. I was trying to get back inside but the wind was against me and I kept being pushed back. My grandmother who was with me grabbed me but she did it so strongly that me feet left the ground, and here I was flotting like a flag in the wind. Thank god my grandma had such a strong grip lol
-> when I was like ten I was playing with metal marbles. I was obsessed with those especially in the summer because they were always fresh when I picked them. Sooo I during one excrutiating boring day during summer I... put one in my mouth. And choked on it. My mother had to do heimlich maneuver on me.
-> This is the WIERDEST (and dumbest). I climbed a tree in my primary school garden. I wasnt supposed to be here and nobody was here to watch me but I was a stupid kid. Climbed the first branch, it was horizontal, in V shape (one foot on each side) and really slippery because other kids ripped the tree bark. Not only did I fell oh no. My head got stuck between the branches. The good part : I didn't break my neck. The bad part : my feet weren't touching the ground, my head was stuck and I couldn't breath. I eventually managed to free myself but my head had turn blue. Reaaally close to die.
-> quick last one : I was swimming, then got stinged by an half dead wasp in the water. Only remember coughing my lungs out on the ground, a friend had to rescue me because I was drawning. Weirdest part : I didn't really do an allergy reaction, didn't get itchy or swallen or else, just passed out for ten seconds.

This was a few years ago, but I'm still a grown woman and should have known better.
I was walking down my block for exercise and had my music playing loudly. This street didn't have a side walk so I walked along a little gravel path next to the road and a drainage ditch. I also happened to be playing Pokemon go and I stopped to catch a Pokemon. My idiot self didn't bother to check for cars cause my song was winding down so I thought I could hear. I go to take a step and a mini van flys by me mere inches from my face. Damn near gave me a heart attack. Good thing I wasn't technically on the road or I would've gotten hit. I probably wouldn't have died, but I would've been hurting bad.

I made a grill cheese using cheese sticks instead of sliced cheese and choked. Then passed out while I was home alone.

Not me, but my sister and two of her friends decided to try and swim across a white water river. They somehow managed not to drown.

A cough drop slipped down my throat causing me to choke for a cupple of minutes as my mom became frantic ,she didn't know how to do the Heimlich, then I realized it was slipping further down so I swallowed.
just then I could breeth and gasped. I wish the company's that make cough drops and suckers would put holes in them like Life Savers.

Was polishing my boots and started to use a lighter to thin the paste military style someone called me and I just put the tin cover to snuff the flame and go to answer the phone, came back to a burning can of shoe grease on the carpet and a room full of black smoke, panicking running across the house trying to find something to put it out when I remembered we just mopped so I proceed to smother it with a wet dirty mop, yeah not my proudest moment

Word of advice for anyone; it doesn’t coast anything to call an ambulance and have the medics take care of u in America. You only pay for the ride to the hospital

@@gigsisdabbling1865 I'm not DiamondMJ, but I can comment from experience: a 10-minute ambulance ride cost me $500, and that was years ago - it would be higher now (my insurance would have paid part, but I didn't know this at the time).
There are Emergency Room fees if you're treated there, plus more fees if you're admitted as a patient. Even with insurance and a job, my part was thousands of dollars and I paid it off over the course of years.
To be clear - if it's an emergency, you're sick/injured, you should do whatever it takes. Insurance covers some of it. If you're disabled, like I am now, Medicaid covers a lot of it. And you can likely work out a payment plan with the hospital later.
But telling people that any part of the process "doesn't cost anything" is completely inaccurate. Hope this helps to clarify.

@@parisgreen4600 I yeah i definitely understand that much. I wanted to emphasis that it doesn't cost for the paramedics to show up and care for u at the scene. It definitely costs a lot for the ride and room.
Importance being that you should not be afraid to call in case of any medical emergency for fear of paying regardless of receiving little to no treatment.
