    Here's an article in The Guardian that states Nicosia is the last divided capital city in the world: www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/15/in-nicosia-cyprus-spirit-of-reconciliation-is-stirring Some have pointed out that Jerusalem could also be considered to be a divided capital. It's certainly debatable. Two differences are that the status of Jerusalem as a capital is disputed. It isn't fully recognized as the capital of Israel or Palestine by the UN. As a result, many countries have chosen to locate their embassies in Tel Aviv rather than Jerusalem. Also, the border check points to enter the West Bank are at the edge of Jerusalem, rather than running right through the middle of the city as is the case with Nicosia.

The DR doesn't want Haitians to cross into their country which is often the case seeking a better life. At the border in Cyprus, many Greeks seem to cross into Northern Turkey.

    I flew to Cyprus one summer to take part in an archaeological dig. I thought the weather would be like the Greek islands but I was wrong. Cyprus is much hotter. You start sweating at 7 am! I attended a one-day conference at Nicosia (on the Greek side). I don't remember anything outstanding about my visit there. I did not have the opportunity to cross on the Turkish side, but I admire your sense of adventure. You must know that, on the Turkish side, your will not get consular services because no one recognizes the Turkish-Cyprus, except Turkey. Also, no insurance coverage is valid there, I think. But I have to admit that I love travelling out of the beaten path and northern Cyprus is definitely out of the beaten path!!!

      Yes, you can cross on foot going either way, it's really quick and easy. There's one border crossing right in the middle of Nicosia that I've crossed three times now, it always took about three minutes.

    What about Rome it's a divided capital as it's in Italy and the Vatican State plus you have a tiny bit in the Sovereign Order of Malta which is sometimes though of as a country.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting point. But Vatican City is an enclave and there's no dispute about the status. I looked up the Order of Malta, sounds like they're an organization that just has buildings in a few places, similar to embassies.

    Gabe thank you so much for showing your adventures in Cyprus I have always wanted to go there and I did not know it was split up like that how interesting! As a historian Ik the Greeks and Turks have always had issues and many conflicts with one another over the years but I think The European Union and the U.S/nato should have sanctioned the hell out of Turkey or do whatever was necessary to make them give that land back to Cyprus period. It is absolutely appalling that Turkey is allowed to have any claim on even the tiniest part of that island.
