@@YardEnvy I just purchased the Liberty after watching a few of your vids and having a 20min talk with Roland. Allett seems to have a plan for non chemical lawn care but it requires plenty of cutting and Scarifying... so I got the scarifier attachment.
New to the channel.. really enjoyed the video. I have Tiffway Bermuda in my yard and have been reel making for just one year now. It is an addiction indeed... loving it. Your reel mower is awesome.. maybe one day I can have one. Cheers... 👍🏼

I've been looking at this particular mower for a while now, but my problem is that I have inconsistent terrain and is going to take quite a bit to flatten. However, good video and reminder that this mower will be it for me.

You can put a front roller that helps with non leveled lawn , and leveling a yard is pretty easy with sand, another good trick is after a good rain I use a lawn roller to help level

When you scarifier you need to pass horizontal vertical and diagonal in both directions before you cut your strips.
And there are organic lawn feeds which will give you good healthy weed free lawn.

Do you find yourself hunched over the machine? How tall are you? I'm 6'5," and concerned that the handle won't be tall/long enough for me. Beautiful yard and machine.
Honestly I was slumped just a bit at times, but yesterday I realized I could adjust the handle up a few inches 😂. Now it's perfect 👍. I'm 6'2" and thank you for the compliments 103. I really appreciate your support!!
In the UK, my Dad swore by Allett. Loved them and their durability.
Most football stadiums use them. They've got some insane machines, but it's the quality of finish and by Jove you have a beautiful lawn.

Hey, with the size of your lawn have you tried double width stripes? Theres a bit of extra walking but it looks great and if you leave a slight gap in your “white” stripes when you return up the middle its cut.
Yeah I did it in some of my other videos and I'm actually doing double diamonds as we speak 👍
Place a brick or two in the catcher. You’ll find it will scarify and mow way better with more weight on the front.

Each cartridge is $400 to 600 depending on what it is. I think there is 7 different cartridges
Dude yours come with Honda engines we mine has a Kawasaki engine 👎
They have me a choice, Honda or Kawasaki
The Kawasaki engine purrs, I've got both a model with the Kawasaki engine and one with the original Tecumseh engine and have used ones with the Honda engine and they're all quite different but all work well. The Tecumseh engine is like the Harley Davidson, long stroke thumper but sounds just soooo nice on tickover however needs tinkering with more often where as both the Kawa' and the Honda just work every time. If I had to pick between the 3 I'd pick the Kawa' engine, it runs like a sewing machine, starts every time, has lovely quick pickup and a sweet sound. The Honda is equally reliable (it's a Honda!) and you wouldn't have issues with either the H or the K.
From what I understand, they are pivoting toward Honda from Kawasaki because the Kawasaki can't meet strict emissions in California for example

New subscriber. I was looking for some verticut videos and came across yours. I have a Swardman and was debating between a verticutter & scarifier cartridge. As I was watching this you convinced me to go with the scarifier, paused the video, placed my order and finished the video. That’s an awesome mower you have and a beautiful lawn. This was a great video and look forward to future ones.

Great video. I have had mine for two years now and I like it. I have had a few issues with the blade not stopping and the mower trying to run away when not engaged. Trying to figure those out.

Thanks man! Yes I've had it over a year now and I love this machine. It cost $2700 but you can get like 7 different cartridges for scarifing, verticutting, aerating etc etc. And honestly Toros are good machines but they are extreme expensive but if you look at my stripes and Pete's stripes our Allett mowers stripe better than Toro mowers. I've backlapped it twice in one year and about to do my third. And yes it turns really good! The rear roller is split so it rotates really good.
When the music breakdown came in, I was totally shocked. Was expecting a totally different genre.

Hello my friend. I have complete yard envy after watching this video. Question: Kensington 20B (Briggs & Stratton) or 20H (Honda) like yours? Apparently the dealer here in Canada doesn't stock the Honda version and I have already had the pleasure of speaking to Roland @ Allett USA. The Briggs is 3.5HP and the Honda 2.5HP? What would you recommend? Thanks for your response in advance and keep on making these awesome vids!

Yup Allett is the King. Very dependable, sold build and has been made for years. Swardman is not in the same league. Ya Ryan Knorr has 2 of them no doubt sponsored by them. Who can afford an electric and gas reel mower, come on. Mine is a Kensington 20B coming soon.
I love mine but I'm going to upgrade to a commercial one.
What about build quality for Allett mowers? I'm very interested in Swardman mowers, but I've read plenty of mixed reviews about their build quality. Looking to upgrade from my Tru-Cut C-25.
I've had mine almost a year and the build quality is second to none. These mowers are just recently making it to the US. This mower brand is well respected and has received awards from the queen of england. In fact Alletts are used on some major league shorts fields in the MLB and NFL. Swardsman can't say any of that 👍.
Assemble that sucker on your tailgate THEN roll it down the ramp.

Can a Scarifier/Turf Rake replace a De-Thatcher ? (I see there are different cartridges on the website) I'm curious what all I would purchase to take care of my lawn.
I would recommend your first cartridges should be the scarifier and depending on what grass you have determines what is the next most important cartridge. The scarifier/turf rake is the single most important cartridge and if used regularly thatch won't even become a problem.
If thatch is bad, why do they tell us to mulch clippings? Maybe I should go back to bagging my clippings? I thought mulching would improve my soil
Mulching can be good. Thatch is a build up of too much material that is not decaying fast enough due to lack of micro organisms to break it down. It just needs to be monitored 👍

Yes, I am still very happy with my purchase. Great machine!! I'm the beginning I was scarifying 3 times a week. Once I got most of the debris out of the canopy. Once you notice that you can see your soil in between the grass you can slack off to once a week or needed for debris in the yard.

Thank you for posting the video. Question. My front yard I’ve always cut high. Last season had someone cutting it and brought it down. But do you slowly have to bring the lawn height down? I’m probably cutting with my Honda now at 2 1/2 to 3 in. My yard isn’t flat. Kinda slopes down to the front of my street.

Also, what type of grass you have depends on how high or low you should cut it. What grass do you have?

Yard Envy also just watched your video on how you took the height down. Now i don’t have a water system in place for my yard. Will beginning it down low. Hurt it in the summer?
@@erics6163 yes, it will stress out tall fescue if you get it to low in the summer. But you can do it slowly and watch it closely and if it starts to turn brown I wouldn't cut it any lower. I wouldn't cut tall fescue lower than 1.5 inches or maybe 2 inches. That grass is suppose to be tall. Hints the name tall fescue. Perennial Rye grass or Kentucky blue grass would be a good grass if you want to cut low.
Did you have trouble by your driveway? I live on a corner lot with sidewalks on both sides. I am worried about going on the concrete to turn around.
The blade will not hit the concrete. The bed knife protects it 👍 I always wondered the same thing before I got my reel mower
I've been wanting one of these for about 6 months, but having a hard time justifying it for a semi-wooded 8 acres. Too bad I can't buy 2 30" cases with 2 cylinders and build a deck to attach them to my tractor

#LawnMowerGoals! I have a California Trimmer right now, and it’s a fantastic little machine for the price, but man those Allett mowers are next level! Having a scarifier at home without having to rent one would make my Bermuda so much happier.

Reason for so many questions is I have about 30-31,000 sqft of Bermuda 11-12,000 of which I would like to stripe etc. trying to get a feel for the right tools that most are using

Lol it's my fault. In one of my new videos I explain how I didn't have the handle adjusted all the way up😬. I also have a bad habit of leaning over to aim the mower so that my stripes are straight. I'm 6' 2"👍 thank you for subscribing and watching also!

Thanks for this video. Closest dealer to me is just over 250 miles. Does Allet maintenance the reels if needed. If so can you ship the reel to them? I'm hesitant because I dont knowing any places here in Jersey that does. The maintenance part is what concerns me. Any info is appreciated.
I'll have to find out myself. I plan on backlaping the reel myself by watching TH-cam videos. I'll also be in touch with Roland from Allett and I'm sure he can help us out on other services. Also they will ship the mower to you 👍
With the Honda engine you can get parts anywhere online. The drive belts can be ordered from Allett online as well. Back lapping can be done easily enough at home. As far as warranty issues the number of Allett dealers is growing everyday.

Great video, I have been eyeing the Allett 43 battery powered for some time but unfortunately they are on back order. Did Horizon have other Allett Mowers in stock or did they just have the Kensington model?
I'm pretty sure they had a variety but I didn't ask. I specifically went for the Kensington. I got mine from the horizon in Houston. They can get you what you need for sure 👍👍

we have used a 30 yr allet on our bowling green in uk. Still works a dream. use the 6 blade and then the 10 bLADE AT 5MM(1/5TH inch). OUR GREEN IS SLICK FAT!

@@YardEnvy i m glad they are getting rep in states. scarification of thatch goes back to victorian times on the croquet lawns, bowling greens and cricket squares (wickets) golf came a bit later. come fall lower the cut and verticut if you got that attachment, then scarify and then re mow in both directions, n-s and e-w helps lawn over winter to no end.

Nice machine. I love mowing, but a 21” cut on that size lawn, is too time consuming. Time better spent with family or on the golf course. Your lawn looks great though.
I #enjoythemow. If it was quick I wouldn't enjoy it. Plus it only takes about 45 min to do my front and side yard.

How flat does the yard need to be? With the front roller I feel like it would mitigate scalping.
The flatter the better. I've done some leveling to my yard in the past but I plan on doing more. If you have some holes or extreme low spots I suggest filling each with a bag of soil and sand mix every 30 to 45 days. Then when you do a mass leveling job it won't take as much. It's like bodywork but on the ground lol

to scarify you put the setting on "S"
Thanks, but not always. It depends on grass type and height of cut. Allett CEO actually trained me on scarifing properly with this machine.
I can relate to you, you have to comb first before you cut it 😉

When using the scarifier cassette you need to lower the height below 1, you'll find there's a "S" that'll appear in the little window, this is the setting when using the scarifier and now brace yourself for how much debris you're going to get out of that lawn.
While I appreciate your eagerness this is not true. I spoke with the CEO on how to do it properly and you must go down in stages and work your way to the " S ". You could cause unnecessary damage to the turf by being too aggressive too soon, but thank you for your comment and support Andy👍
@@YardEnvy Hi again, I appreciate your prompt reply but still beg to differ. I've used the QX cassette system for 25yrs and it works best on the S setting if you really want all the debris removing however I'd recommend cutting the grass slightly shorter than usual before doing it and then cut it again at the same height after scarifying. Another top tip for you is if you're going to scarify twice, and I recommend you do, the second time run the machine at 90 degrees across the lawn to the 1st pass and also run a little oil on the threads of those 6 bolts each time you swap.
A bit of background on the system…. The QX system was developed by Atco Qualcast back in the mid 90s, this was the largest lawnmower manufacturer here in the UK, very popular and in fact my own Atco Balmoral model is the exact same mower as your Allett Kensington only you have the latest gen Honda engine. Allett started making copies of all the Atco Qualcast range in 2011 (quite legally, they bought the rights to do so). Atco Qualcast was bought by Bosch and subsequently fell off a cliff leaving Allett in a very good position.
Congratulations though, you’ve bought yourself a very good mower and I like your videos.
I own a Balmoral and would endorse Andy’s commentary with one small but important proviso. When scarifying at the ‘S’ setting raise the Comb up to the highest position otherwise it will ground. Love ur yard. Hey I have a question. I put Bermuda down n my backyard on March 9, 2020 and I just put my first fertilizer down this past sunday. I'm lookn for a good reel mower and I like the allett. When can the scarifier be used on new sod? When can I fertilize again if I put it down 6 days ago? I used PGF CV complete. I saw it on how to wit doc.
I would not use the scarifier on it until mid to late summer. That will give the grass time to get some well established roots. That PGF complete is a good fertiliser and should feed the grass for about 8 weeks. The longer it is out the less it feeds. Also the more rain or water that is falling on that grass will dilute the fertiliser with time. Bermuda grass loves to be fertilised so personally I would give it another dose in 30 days.

Hey I have another question. Can u engage the blade and cut without engaging the self propel feature? Thought I saw u do it a couple of times.
Yes, you can push it when making corners to make easy or in down hill situations. Separate drive system 👍. Also if it seems like your grass has developed a good hold and root system you may be able to scarify real easy and see what it does.
You've bought the best! In the UK Allett are used on a lot of football pitches, cricket wickets, bowling greens etc. You should have a go at their creative stripes competition!
