I think the reason why this is the greatest Christmas film ever made is because, even though this is a Christmas film, you could watch it at any time. If you saw something like Klaus or A Christmas Carol during spring or summer, it would feel a bit weird. But you could watch this film at any time of the year and still have a blast!
Yeah - its not really about Christmas. Its about love, life, despair, and loss - and at the very end hope. Its like opening Pandora's box. You see this man laid bare - all his hopes and dreams dashed again and again - but in the end he finds out - he was the fulcrum on which the whole world turned for a huge mass of people. He was the pivot point that changed their life. All the failures and loss are vastly overblown by the fact that this man meant to much to so many. Its life affirming and hopeful. It tells everyone their life means more than just their temporary stress. Its a precious wonderful thing. Thats what is means to me anyway. All these people were long dead before I was born - but their life lives on. I hope in a thousand years asteroid belt miners are watching Its a Wonderful Life. Its timeless.
@@rickyrayrosenberg420 I guess you are right. To me at least, I always saw it as a Christmas film mostly because it was set around December, Christmas Eve and that the joyful moments felt like something you could only have around that holiday. But that's just what I feelt. Maybe others felt differently.
This movie was "shelved' for many years and when the copyright "for the lack of a better word" ran out all of the networks jumped on it. So I want to thank you to all whom brought this beautiful motion picture to the public.
The best movie about mans condition, to watch every Christmas or anytime of the year.. The Love of God so rich and pure. Thank God from whom all blessings flow. 🙏❤️
Watching it for the first time in 2022. I think I needed this because I was so down and depressed and unable to function normally. Almost given up on life and my dreams.
Love and gratitude are the ultimate medicine! They may not save all from physical disease (though they certainly help to prevent them from happening in the first place), but they CAN, and DO, save one's soul (from needless suffering). As a human, there's no way around suffering, but there are states of suffering along a spectrum, and only those individuals whom feel and express genuine love, compassion and gratitude get to experience the highest reaches of the desirable end of that spectrum. Existence is essentially an ongoing lesson on how to best deal with bitter-sweetness. Most people unconsciously opt to fight for an eternal state of tasting the sweet, while simultaneously trying to suppress, or outright ignore, the bitter, and they actually suffer a lot more for it. The reasons for the extra suffering are many, but top among them is the unmistakable reality that nothing can be possessed forever. The fact of the human condition is that death is inevitable and, therefore, so too is loss. It's only the few among us who look on themselves, and others, with genuine love and compassion that put an end to this, and other, unnecessary sorrows, by, among other reasons, learning to accept the bitter with the sweet, and having the courage to face whatever feelings or emotions arise from approaching life from that perspective. Yes, "the truth hurts", but, yes, too, "it's always darkest before the dawn"! ...and the dawn does come! So, whenever you feel a great deal more love and/or gratitude within you than you normally do, see if you can make it a habit to turn that "positive energy" inward, directed entirely at yourself. See if you can turn that positive emotional state into a tool for forgiving yourself, and others (of anything that comes to mind), as well as creating more self-awareness, such that you can see through any lies that you may be telling yourself. REMOVE ALL PRETENSIONS!!! There is NO liberator that is more freeing than coming to full honesty!

However, this encounter could merely be a powerful figment of your imagination, amplified particularly in altered states of consciousness. Unfiltered, genuine honesty can often be harsh, challenging our deeply held beliefs and the comforting deceptions upon which we construct our self-identity. It is unsurprising, then, that we shield ourselves from disconcerting truths as our very notion of "self" relies on them. Regardless of the existence of a divine entity or entities, it's undeniable that individuals tend to endure unnecessary suffering until they muster the courage to confront their own fallacies down to their roots. They must face the harsh realities of their predicament, perceived as ugly by the ego yet beautiful from the standpoint of the unblemished "soul." In essence, much of our suffering emanates from our misconceived perception of reality. Even just watching the trailer I get the feels. This and "A Christmas Carol" with Alastair Sim are the two mainstays of my holiday viewing list. What we experience emotionally each time we watch is what keeps us coming back. There aren't a lot of movies that can take us to that place and I cherish their ability to remind me of the beauty and joy that can exist amidst dark and troubled times.

This Is My Grandad’s Favourite Film We Are Actually Going To See It When It Gets Theatrically Re-Released Next Month Update: I Saw It On Tuesday And It’s A Timeless Masterpiece Of Cinema
I just saw this movie today at the cinemas. What a wonderful movie. One of the best feel good movies I've seen and now in my yearly Christmas movie watch..
I am thankful for men of tge oast like George Kapra who saw something in Jimmy Stewart after thd war. He was in the air force & a lot of his buddies were killed. Jimmy took the role and -- more than acting -- he was for real in his role -- yes -- to leave one in tears . Interesting loints to ponder : he gave up his dream to travel continue his dad's buisness,he helped those through that buisness to live their dream,he sacrificed his marriage money to save the Bailey buisness. Finally -- he realized " The Greatest Gift" ( original title) - the life God gave him . Yes ,it's a wonderful movie --- and awonderful lfe . Especially if it's all for God......
i've never seen why this movie is regarded as 1 of the greatest masterpieces in history, but at the same time i do love it & it's 1 of my few yearly mandatory viewings during the Christmas season.

As someone who loves sci fi and action movies, I was not expecting to like this movie very much since it is not the type that I usually like. However, this has to be one of the best movies I have ever watched and made me a little emotional as well. My favorite Christmas movie (other than Die Hard).
I normally watch Grand Prix, terminator , aliens etc but this film is the best feel good movie ever made. Everything that is good about mankind captured in this film. I hope it never gets remade as nothing beats the original.

Christmas classic. I watch this every year. I remember in high school a girl from Mexico who looked like Donna Reed, her mom remarried a US Army guy and she and her mom and brother lived right next to the school. She actually got married after high school to a good friend of mine, but their marriage didn't last. He moved to Florida. One half hour into this classic, the movie gets really serious and sad. Great movie. Never gets old. A politically charged movie too. That's why I love it.
I remember the first time i watched this movie in highschool my freshman year in 2012 and its very nostalgic to watch it again now that its been 10 years 😭
The first three quarters of the movie is rather stressful with so much going wrong for George, but that makes the last part of the movie that much sweeter
Ya know, I've read so many so called art-tech critics always criticizing the colorized version takes away from the movie's original b/w artistic integrity. I might of agreed back in the 80s when they first started playing around with colorization. But as far as I'm concerned the colorized version of It's a Wonderful Life, at least the one that's available on Prime, is one of the best colorization jobs I've ever seen! And I will say, IMHO, it's far better than the original black and white version.

12 Angry Men, Psycho, The Lighthouse, Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Young Frankenstein, It Happened One Night, The Third Man, Seven Samurai, Dr. Strangelove, The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, The Night of the Hunter, M, Wild Strawberries, Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, etc. Just a random assortment of great B&W movies! Saw it when I was a kid but definitely hits you differently as an adult 😢❤
one of the best movies ever . so emotional 😢
Truly a masterpiece!!
I remember the first time i watched this movie in highschool my freshman year in 2012 and its very nostalgic to watch it again now that its been 10 years 😭
The first three quarters of the movie is rather stressful with so much going wrong for George, but that makes the last part of the movie that much sweeter
The best Christmas movie that was ever made to me they don't play it anymore on TV so I had to come to TH-cam to find it thanks TH-cam
Love this, it just makes me feel happy to be alive and thankful for what little i have, but love watching it.
This Christmas movie is the best movie that I ever seen 😍
The only movie, that i watch every year. My favourite film❤
My Dad's favorite movie..I will always remember It and think about my Dad..the best Dad ever❤😇
I've watched this movie for over 30 years between Thanksgiving and Christmas it's tradition many of us is not around so Merry Christmas
Watched this film today and once I relaxed into the old black and white and vintage theme this film turned out to be one of the best. Awesome.
One of the best movies ever made.
My favorite Christmas film 🎥
Just watched it in colored version. George is a wonderful person, but Mary is the unsung hero here! Bravo! What a movie back in those days!
Just watching the trailer makes me wanna tear up. It's a magical movie
I still don't like coconuts
One of the best movies ever 💞

This movie might be black and white but it adds so much colours to our hearts , love was plain and simple with no expectations, a movie to be remembered and learned from forever…
I love this every year so did my first Lady of my church 😊❤
La mejor película del mundo, si no la veo no es Navidad, la adoro y la he visto tantas veces que ya perdí la cuenta.
This film looks stunning on 4K UHD disc, its pristine, and looks as if it was filmed yesterday.

I used to hate old movies because of black and white colours but I was very wrong after I watched some great movies like schindlers list, Casablanca and it's a wonderful life
Now I wants to watch even more black and white old movies they are so good especially the actors are fantastic in each movie
GO!
Schindlers' stinks! And it's a lie. Nothing but propaganda.
I have it on 4K disc, awesome film and great transfer.
It's 1 of my all time favorite movies 🙌🏻🥰😍🤩💝💖💓💞 Best movie 2 watch at Christmas 🎄.
