Anche a me mancano, ne ho 57 e i vecchi film classici mi mancano come la vita e' meravigliosa di Capra .O le Campane del Santa Maria con Ingrid Bergman
I, too, am 62 and was raised on beautiful classics like The Bishop's Wife. This was a favorite of my dad while he was still alive, so much in fact, that he asked me to play it for him not just at Christmas but throughout the year. Now, I find myself watching it throughout the year when I need a pick me up. Merry Christmas!
I'm 46, raised under decaying socialist regime which had to give way to rampant neoliberal free market economy based on greed, envy, rat race and all encompassing consumption. I watch old films after work to forget about the world in which I live, chaotic, frenzy, nihilistic.
When Dudley magically had the typewriter writing a new sermon for The Bishop, you hear it read in the last scene. I'm not really a church goer, but thats the kind of thing I would love to hear someone read out in public. It fills your thoughts with long lost values and what can be truly good amongst all if us. Today is Christmas Eve , Sunday 24th Dec. 2023. I only want the people reading this to just feel happiness. Yes there are lots of things to worry about. But find joy in even the smallest thing. Merry Season's.
I first saw this wonderful movie with my Mama. I was sick and she put it on to watch with her while we ate soup together. Miss her so much! This is such a feel-good family movie.🥰
Sounds like my experiences with my mom. We watched the Million Dollar movies and one was the Bishop's Wife. I love this movie. Can't beat black and white. Always brings back good memories. Merry Christmas!
I also saw this magical film for the first time years ago , one Christmas with my Mum and my Nan, it is so wonderful to see it again after so many years.
Who needs millions of pounds of Visual effects, the 5/- worth in this film were perfect! A lovely heartwarming film with Cary Grant as always,as we expect, no violence, no swearing And with a happy ending. Feel good at its best.
I am glad that other people feel the same way as I do after watching a film such as this. Perhaps its my age but I don't need to see things being blown apart and people murdered in graphic detail in order to be 'entertained' . It often seems to me that the older I get the more I want to live in the past. Is that sad or what!@@tanni1877
Oh boy, do I agree. I so dislike movies built around special effects. Give me great dialogue and great acting and you can dump effects in the dumpster.
This is by far my favorite Christmas movie. It's magical, tender and beautiful. And funny. All these years later and Cary Grant and Loretta Young still shine.
Same here, absolutely. 'It's A Wonderful Life' gets all the limelight every Christmas at my local (112 year old!) cinema but as good as that film is, I much prefer this.
@@DianeCee57He was an uncannily beautiful man. As though something very advanced scientifically had been performed on him at the age of two weeks (in utro, that is)
What a beautiful movie. It brought a tear to my eye especially when the sermon was given. This movie shed the whole feeling of Christmas. The birth of Christ. Just beautiful!!!!!
Oh my, Cary Grant, don't believe anyone since has reached his level of second degree humor, discourse and humility, filled with charm! It seemed to flow so profusely from him, like a second nature.
Thumbs up. It has a definite fascination . . . even for a former physics instructor like me. Some call it a " Romantic + Intellectual Dream. " Because the real thing is impossible to find.
You cannot beat this original. The music, photography, brilliant cast is a do not miss every year! Were there ever two better-looking humans than Loretta Young and Cary Grant??? Black and white brings back old Christmas memories better somehow. All the casting was superb really.
Since watching this remarkable film two days ago, I can't get "The Bishop's Wife" out of my head. Cary Grant as Dudley the angel was magnificent. His love and concern towards others is heartwarming. I wish I could have a visit from Dudley. This is a top notch Christmas movie that everyone should watch at least once in their lifetime. Splendid cast and production. Worthy of an Academy Award!
I can't believe I never saw this! One of my new favorites for Christmas now! Thank you for uploading it ❤ what a beautiful, delightful holiday movie reminding us of the real reason for Christmas. Merry hristmas to all reading this and may you feel HIS joy and warmth.
It's great that you discovered this film. I had the immense pleasure of seeing it for the very first time last year, at my local cinema and I well remember, on my way home afterwards, wondering how it had escaped me for so long!
Lol you and me both! 40 years old in February and this is the first time ever seeing this diamond in the rough. What a picture! My new favorite Christmas film!
No words can describe the happiness to enjoy such a beautiful movie, never saw Cary grant in a scene like this ,it was perfect!!!!! I wish an angel would come into my life all of a sudden and bring me some kind of happiness I'm needing so desperately, God bless u all and let's not forget that God is always with us although we cannot see him. My favorite Christmas movie, the chemistry between the cast members is sublime....My very favorite part is the skating scene...so whimsical....so magical...IMO, the BEST Christmas movie ever, because it always leaves me feeling happier than I was....
This is a wonderful movie. Reading thru the comments and watching the movie, I am in tears at the moment. It's so hard to pick out a favorite part when the entire movie is filled with such passionate vigor. I recall as a little girl what choir was like and it was just like these boys' choir. As a former organist and singer in the choir, I'd have to say it was quite the miracle when Dudly waved his hand and the boys came to the practice. What beautiful voices they had too. I love Cary Grant movies, but I think this is one of his best performances in this one. David Niven and Loretta Young were quite spectacular as well. Just the whole cast was.....magical.
I agree with you. Have you also watched "People Will Talk" starring Cary Grant? That was where I first came to know him and everytime I see his name pop up in any movie, I am agauranteed of great moments. Also, watch Loretta Young in "The Farmer's Daughter". She takes the lead role there and she was exceptionally great - as always.
THERE IS NO GOD BUT ALLAH AND JESUS IS THE SERVANT AND PROPHET OF ALLAH , JUST LIKE ALL OTHER PROPHETS: MOSES, DAVID, NOAH, JACOB, MUHAMMAD, JONAS, ETC...)
I first knew Cary Grant in the movie "People Will Talk" whereas I first knew Loretta Young in "The Farmer's Daughter". Two masterclass movies that totally made me fall in love with all Cary Grant and Loretta Young movies. This, too, as expected, is a masterpiece movie.
My gosh...........ultimate leading man, how handsome & charismatic Cary Grant was on top of talented. The remakes of this classic do not even come close to or have the magic of this original. Thank you for sharing!! Happy Holidays to all🥰
My all time favorite Christmas movie! 💚❤️💚❤️ Cary Grant was the one who thought him and Niven should change roles when he was originally cast as the bishop. Genius man. I listen to the Mitchell Boys Choir twice it’s so beautiful. I imagine what it would be like to have one of those boys be your grandfather ☺️
What an interesting idea to switch the roles played by Grant and Niven. I like the way it was done best, but I think it would have worked the other way around too.
There so many wonderful Christian movies that replay the meaning of Christmas🎄🙏 this my friends is one of them .BLESS YOU ALL,EVERYONE EVERY WHERE INTHE NAME OF YESHUA 🙏🙏
I watched this movie every single year as a teen. It was on TV every december 24 afternoon, while i was decorating the tree. I loved it so much ❤ And then the remake happened, and no channel here ever showed this gem again. And it's so hard to find even on DVD, at least at a reasonable price. So finding it now here is a delight. Thanks ❤ Of course a bit difficult for me cause english isn't my language, but i hope to understand enough. I'm almost scared to watch it after 30 years (omg), cause we all know how movies we loved as children sometimes are way less good than we thought back then. But i hope that's not the case here. Can't wait to watch it tomorrow (almost midnight, too late to watch now). 😊
Such a lovely movie, I wish life was like this. Helping people back on track. And realising how lucky we are to live a life in faith and love. These movies help us to see how we are failing in life and how we can learn from Christmas and serve others .🇬🇧🙏❤️
I remember being off school in the 60's and this came on in the afternoon, very rare to have a film on in them days, I must of been about 12 or 13 and I fell in love with it from then, I'm 67 now and still love it, it reminds me of great long lost days an family and friends no longer with me.....one of the greatest Christmas films in my opinion. I did read that initially Cary Grant was due to play Niven's part....glad they made it this way, great performances by all involved in this little masterpiece..👍👍👍👍👍👍
@Elmer-hf1je... I agree the original 1947 "The Bishop's Wife" is just wounder and a superb cast staring, Cary Grant as Dudley Loretta Young as Julia Brougham David Niven as Bishop Henry Brougham Monty Woolley as Professor Wutheridge
What a movie , what was more gorgeous the movie or Gary Grant ? he was gorgeous and a wonder , don’t think we will see the likes of him again . The cast was perfect david Niven , Loretta young. What a treasure of a movie going to start seeing it every Christmas to put beauty in my Christmas and hopefully this lovely theme everywhere.
Our all-time favorite Christmas movie. So many delightful things interwoven, so many little touches here and there that keep the whole thing fresh and entertaining. All the while, watching the ensemble cast of so many superb actors just perfectly cast for their roles create magic. And for the time, the special effects were actually impressive! The ice skating scene may be a little less convincing regards just who is really skating, but that can be forgiven...it's still a good scene. Cary Grant, Loretta Young, David Niven, Monty Wooly, Elsa Lanchester, James Gleason - all faces that fans of film from this era will not only recognize, but will do so fondly. Worth every single minute of time spent watching, remembering, and coming back to.
Wow. What an absolutely delightful film. I'm 66 in a week's time and i have never seen this film before. I'm so chuffed to have found it now. Thank you very much for posting.
@jamesadams6009 You and I are the exact same age, James! I turned 66 on December 29. Yes, I agree with you that this was a remarkable film that I saw for the first time this morning, January 31, 2024. How this one slipped past me all these years, is a mystery! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It really means a lot. 😇🕯⚘️🕊
This movie warms your heart and makes you feel there are people still around like this with such kindness and a pure purpose. Let Christmas guide you too understanding your purpose here on Earth. Be gracious in your thoughts and giving of yourself. Bless you all.🇬🇧🙏❤️
But let us not forget "the reason for the season" those of Christian faith -- it's Baby Jesus' birthday. Let us try not to let commercialism overwhelm us with the business greed. If there's not enough $, don't let it bring you down. Celebrate His Birthday. For me, it wasn't Xmas without the Nativity present... we always had a Nativity but not a tree -- often too expensive! But always the Nativity. Mama would hide the Baby Jesus' figure till Xmas because he "wasn't born yet". Mama said she'd ask the tree man for some of the discarded branches to have the Xmas smell. She'd arrange them around the Nativity. Some yrs. later, we'd have a small birthday cake saying "Happy Birthday Baby Jesus" and sing Happy Birthday to him. These were some of my happiest memories of Xmas. 🥰
My favourite all time Christmas film (with “Its a Wonderful Life” and”The man who came to dinner” running a close second and third). Everything about this film is marvellous. Great actors (all of them), authentic story, gentle, heartwarming, decent, intelligent, fun. My favourite memory - apart from Monty Woolley, whom I love - is the first few shots at the very beginning. All the opening shots are gently Christian based - as it rightly should be - to remind us of the meaning of Christmas, and ONLY THEN afterwards are there shots of Santa Claus, toys in shop windows and the shining happy faces of children. I have watched it many times over. Wonderful and Perfect!
Yes it's really a great movie... We are so joyful and humbled after watching the end part of it... That's the beauty of CHRIST... Christmas time is loved all over this world... Specially, kids feel so happy and kind of off load🎉
A classic magical movie that remains contemporary and the simple words spoken by the Bishop at the end as to "what baby Jesus really needs in his stocking" are magnificent: kindness and the outstretched hand of Tolerance will bring peace on earth". It's a nessage of Hope in a world of greed and vanity...
Different years require different Christmas inspiration: Bishops’s Wife, Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, 1951 Christmas Carol, and Elf too. Rejoining old friends each Holiday Season. 🎄
This movie brought me to tears 😢 Carey Grant is an amazing actor. So distinguished and full of charm. His smile just makes me melt. There has never been anyone else like him before or since. ❤
Looking for this movie many years, always around Christmas, finally I've found it! As a child I watched it every year but then violent movies came up at Christmas and this movie disappeared. I'm happy to see it today again.
Wow...such a beautiful film. This is the first time I got to watch this film. I had never heard of it before. Almost like a miracle. Its so nice to think that in those days, directors wouldn't hesitate to quote the Bible verses and Psalms and the Lord's prayer in a movie. What a wonderful message. Angels are there to protect us to guide us. Thank you Father in heaven. I really needed to see this movie today.
The scene with the boys’ choir is my all-time favorite movie scene; it is heavenly. I watch this movie several times a year. Only a few others beat its place at #1. Thank you to whoever posted it.
I watched this with my mother when I was a small child on our old black and white tv. I am now 68 and mom is long gone as are many but this was like a visit in time this holiday season with her. God bless
When ambition takes over your life to the exclusion of your family. Self gratification is more important than anyone else in your life. This is played out in everyday life throughout this planet today. No matter what you believe in, be true to yourself by helping those who are not as fortunate as you have been in life is more rewarding. Only those who are closed minded will tell you that is wrong. But deep in your heart you know they are wrong, so leave them to their little lives because sooner or later they will see what you see and feel.
Blessed art thou who take away from this film a message more complex, yet so simple as to dim the critic and allure the child within us all. Plots and sub-plots, entertainment and religion - yet neither so overwhelming as to take away from the message or messages intended. Brilliant message, brilliant cast and direction, an overall an outstanding film.
Seeing the displays, during Advent, was an integral part of waiting for the Christ Child's holy birth! It was made that much better by snow. Going out after darkness fell was the most special thing. The lights in the windows, twinkling. It. combined with the lights of different colors, on snow, was a child's dream. The boys choir was incredibly wonderful. It reminded me of singing in the children's, then the adult choirs. Although accolades were far from our minds, I remember getting a standing ovation, after Handel's "Alleluia Chorus" This is the best movie I've seen this year. Thank you, and God Bless you
Thank you for sharing this gem 💎! I adore Cary Grant and this is the first time I’ve seen this beautiful movie! Indeed he’s an angel 👼! I’m celebrating Christmas by myself and I’ve just prepared my Christmas dinner while watching this warming story! What a beautiful Christmas gift 🎁!
After It’s a Wonderful Life, this is my favorite Christmas movies. I’ve looked and looked to find it on TH-cam for free without success….now I stumbled across it by complete accident! I know this film word for word!
Grew up watching this with my family at Christmas! It just isn't Christmas without this movie and It's a Wonderful Life and both have angels👼💝 From beginning to end this movie just feels you with warmth. Lorretta Young, David Niven, Cary Grant, Monty Wooley and James Gleason all are wonderful!! The harp scene is my favorite.
Another beautiful film from that era is The Bells Of St. Mary's. I have always loved that movie. And, another great Christmas film is Miracle On 34th Street, it is a cute movie about Santa Claus.
Jesus Christ is not a Relegion. He is the Truth and the people who believe in Him and everything He proved to be True. Saταnists who rule the world, have made Christianity a relegion, but that's not the real Christians and have nothing to do with the Truth. Life and nature work in the system of 2.Man/Woman. Truth/Lies.Yes/No. Positive/Negative (electricity). Everything works in 2.So, it's the Truth that Jesus proved and who doesn't have faith or doesn't follow the truth, want's it or not, he/she, chooses the 2nd path, the path that Devil rules, and has ALL relegions in his hand.(as also all people who have no relegion and believe in nonsense.
@@lauradavidson6 Jesus existed as history points toward but was a man, not a god or son of god. Every culture, continent, country has religions and gods, but the holes in the claims and stories are endless and there man made origins are more than evident. There is a God though and the medical research into the phenomenon of NDE's over the last 45 years is overwhelming and proves there is an afterlife and God/Source. But that God, the real God or Source has no gender or name and is far bigger, wiser, greater, more incredible and Awesome than any of the man made gods of our religious myths.

And then the remake happened, and no channel here ever showed this gem again.
You won't regret watching it. You'll love it all over again! 😇
Hope you still loved it x

Such a lovely movie, I wish life was like this.
Helping people back on track. And realising how lucky we are to live a life in faith and love.
These movies help us to see how we are failing in life and how we can learn from Christmas and serve others .🇬🇧🙏❤️
well stated indeed.......... cheers
What a beautiful story full of love if only man could be the same
Thank you for uploading this masterpiece of pure kindness and love 😍 May God bless your soul however you are ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love when Dudley teaches the prayer to the little girl. Merry Christmas everyone 🙏🏻
A feel good movie that should be in everyone’s top ten of Christmas movies , I’ll even say in my humble opinion number one !
I agree %100
@Elmer-hf1je... I agree the original 1947 "The Bishop's Wife" is just wounder and a superb cast staring,
Cary Grant as Dudley
Loretta Young as Julia Brougham
David Niven as Bishop Henry Brougham
Monty Woolley as Professor Wutheridge
What a movie , what was more gorgeous the movie or Gary Grant ? he was gorgeous and a wonder , don’t think we will see the likes of him again . The cast was perfect david Niven , Loretta young. What a treasure of a movie going to start seeing it every Christmas to put beauty in my Christmas and hopefully this lovely theme everywhere.
Will start seeing the Bishops Wife each year thank you mr gorgeous Cary grant for such a beautiful movie. RIP sending all my love.❤️
What a pearl this movie is. A gem to be cherished.
No modern day Christmas movie could ever compete with this. Thanks for showing it, Merri Christmas.
I love this movies. Watch it even when it's not Christmas.
Watching today August 19.
Still delivers buckets of joy...Thank you.
I love this film. No body puts up a stocking for Jesus Christ never thought of that.
Wow. What an absolutely delightful film. I'm 66 in a week's time and i have never seen this film before. I'm so chuffed to have found it now. Thank you very much for posting.
All the best for your birthday 🥳
Merry Christmas 🎄
God bless
Bless you all.🇬🇧🙏❤️
This film is from 1948. Back then there was civility.
Lovely comment, bless you to! Happy Holidays🥰😇
@@tanni1877 Happy Holidays to you too Tanni.
"Be gracious in your thoughts and giving of yourself". What a beautiful sentiment. Bless you.
Henry Koster hurrah! This gets the most positive comments award! 👌🙏👏👏
Different years require different Christmas inspiration: Bishops’s Wife, Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, 1951 Christmas Carol, and Elf too. Rejoining old friends each Holiday Season. 🎄
Thank you for a wonderful and beautiful time watching something decent and uplifting 🎄❤️
Exactly the same here! 😂 Haven't seen it in 30 years! Can't wait to watch it
Wow...such a beautiful film.
This-one, and ‘Come to the Stable’, are My favourite classic Christmas films of the year!
Thank-You!!
I just watched “Come to the Stable” last night….One hundred percent agree with you!🌲☃️
Mine are all of them especially Is a wonderful life and this one all that have to do w/ Jesus birth and angels😊❤
I watched this with my mother when I was a small child on our old black and white tv. I am now 68 and mom is long gone as are many but this was like a visit in time this holiday season with her. God bless
❤
Gosh, just what we all need right now.
Brilliant acting, marvellous cast.
Love it. ❤❤👏👏👏👏👏👏🎅
Loretta young is just an angel her self, she is everything when I think of a real LADY.Great movie Thanks...
I am not a religious person and I am interested in old movies, I agree 100% with what you said, thank you for leaving this comment 👌👍👏🌹
You sum up well, the deception of putting self gratification above everyone else.
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace and goodwill to all.🎄✝♥
💯💯💯💯💯🇨🇱🇺🇲❤
Merry Christmas 🎄
Blessed art thou who take away from this film a message more complex, yet so simple as to dim the critic and allure the child within us all. Plots and sub-plots, entertainment and religion - yet neither so overwhelming as to take away from the message or messages intended. Brilliant message, brilliant cast and direction, an overall an outstanding film.
This has always been one of my favorite movies. Loreta Young was always so beautiful. I remember her TV show also.
This was ;my first time seeing The Bishop's Wife. I forgot how great movies can be. Thank you YT for showing this. Loretta Young was an angel
David Niven may have the smaller and lower key role, but he does his typically fine job with it.
Thankyou for posting , what a wonderful movie , with such a powerful message. I can't believe
I had never heard of it before .❤ 🙏
I’ve watched this movie many a time.
Although accolades were far from our minds, I remember getting a standing ovation, after Handel's "Alleluia Chorus"
This is the best movie I've seen this year. Thank you, and God Bless you
I adore this film - watch it from time to time and am moved every time. A brilliant cast, a wonderful story and such a loving Christmas message.
Merry Christmas☃️
Merry Christmas 🎄
All the best to you.
After It’s a Wonderful Life, this is my favorite Christmas movies. I’ve looked and looked to find it on TH-cam for free without success….now I stumbled across it by complete accident! I know this film word for word!
I forgot what a joy this film really is.
This movie comes up in my suggestions every Christmas and I end up watching it again.
I am from different religion but still loved this fantastic movie, it's really cheerful
Another beautiful film from that era is The Bells Of St. Mary's. I have always loved that movie. And, another great Christmas
film is Miracle On 34th Street, it is a cute movie about Santa Claus.
Jesus died for all of us...not any religion
@@lauradavidson6 He was resuscitated in the tomb .
Remember , LOVE is the reason for the season.
“It happened on Fifth Avenue” is another heartwarming Christmas classic. It is sentimental, but also full of some very great humor.
Forget the misery of “it’s a wonderful life” here is a warm cheerful Christmas movie with a wonderful cast ,Cary Grant being a very angelic version of his screen persona is a joy to behold
It would help if his real life was with angels and God.
It's only miserable if you are a miserable bstard to begin with.
The misery of Its a Wonderful Life? I’m afraid that says a lot about you.
@@sheryl146 Drunk chemist beating children , a child disabled , suicide , Robbery ,but thankfully Clarents the Angel l know people love “wonderful” it is a very dark movie in so many ways Merry Xmas we can both hope lots of bells are ringing for those angels to get their wins
Indeed!
What a wonderful movie for Christmas. Great actors and such a great story. They don't make such warm felled movies anymore.
Aree
I just love this movie! It's just a beautiful, heartwarming story of faith and hope and for the goodness in life. Five stars!!!
This is a must see Christmas movie! It will warm your heart!!,❤️
Totally underrated heartwarming classic
Reading all the comments about this wonderful film reinforced the fact that I am not a freak to love such older movies. I detest and can't understand today's movies. This made me wonder if that made me a dinosaur!
Yes! But we need dinosaurs.
what a movie! And what a way to tell that the divine dwells more in little acts of kindness and joy and in the hearts of loving people than in temples and cathedrals
Amen
Thank you so much for this wonderful treat! ♥This is one of my favourite films --- beautifully produced, wonderfully cast! ♥
