IAWL is my favourite film of all time, is it perfect? No. There’s a few editing jump cuts and occasional hammy acting and some scenes that are a bit jarring or don’t sit well today BUT it was a product of its time and 100% ahead of its time in SO many ways. The directing in this film shines through and I believe Capra did an excellent job. The actors all look so happy and genuine. Take this last scene, the perfect. Every actor looks like the genuinely rushed to George’s aid, everyone looks friendly to each other, there are a hundred conversations happening but it doesn’t distract. The shots of George overwhelmed, when George gets given a loan from Sam wainwright. All the children look genuine and the love between George and Mary is so warm… George can’t stop kissing Mary out of pure joy for being back. The icing on top is the last poignant message from Clarence gift, it’s so perfectly finished and I will never get tired of seeing this classic.
This movie is part of every Christmas. It's as old as I am : 77 years old ! Hard to believe it bombed at the theatres when it came out ! It's about how important every life is .
This movies ending always gets me choked up because at its core it’s about someone realizing they are loved. Far too often we don’t tell people we love them. We just expect them to know it. But we never say it. And far too often people mistakenly believe that the world would be a better place without them. This is especially a problem plaguing men as in the last decade as self inflicted death rates have skyrocketed all around the world. It’s so easy to feel like you don’t matter anymore.
I think people miss Donna Reed's contribution to this classic! She is flawless when she walks in and finds her home invaded by the Sherrif, Bank Examiner and reporters. Her simple hello and her eyes express so much. Capra was a genius!
My life has been hell for the last 2 months. However this movie reassured the faith Ive always had. In the last 2 weeks my life has fallen into perfect order. Im grateful for God and his angels that make miracles happen!
My dad was like George Bailey. I first watched this movie with my mother 3 yrs after he passed. She cried because George Bailey reminded her of my dad.
Auld Lang Syne is a song that fits the ending and message from Clarence so well. It’s a poem/song about not forgetting all the good memories and people that we have met in our lives. It’s easy to forget and get consumed by our problems or negative people. But old acquaintances and memories that have had positive impacts should never be forgotten about
Thanks SO MUCH for posting this in a way we could watch it for free...the colorized version was top notch too. Most re-colors are splotchy....Merry Christmas! And let us ALL remember that we have affected MANY lives, and we didn't even know it. Thank you Jesus for showing us through this wonderful classic film.
They showed a colorized version back in the 80s and it was not great. This color is perfect and if you didn't know, you'd never know it wasn't shot in color in the first place.
I've been watching this movie every year since I was a kid in the 70s. It was an old movie then. It gets better and better each year I watch it. They don't make movies this good anymore. Everyone should watch it each year and remember how we are all supposed to act towards our fellow human beings.
Timeless beauty in a film. Been watching every few years since way...way...back. Thank You Lord for all the gifts, talents and abilities you give us. And, for all the wonderful things we get to do with them, especially when we repent and put You First. Thank You Jesus. Amen.
This film was derided by critics as “ Capra-corn” because of its corny embrace of love, family, friends and the realization of a person’s affect on others we never appreciate.Frank Capra got the last laugh on those critics! Timeless.Perfect.And a spirit we need more of in America….PS..Donna Reed was girl next door beautiful !
No one really talks about how much of a good friend Sam Winbright was Mary was dating him or at the very least like her and left for basically his best friend and still gave him the money and remained a close friend
Good friend-shmend! Didn’t you see that dame he was messing around with while he was on the phone w George and Mary? Shaming George for “stealing” his girl while he was messing around w another??? He was no more interested in Mary than he was in EVERY other girl who he laid eyes on! Sure, he bailed George out; but he had George to thank for setting him on the road to success, in the first place.
I was advised by a close mentor & friend that's known me since I started my entrepreneurial journey at 18 to watch this film, he said this will perfectly explain and put into perspective my recent experiences... That ending with the quote "Remember no man is a failure who has friends" hit home. Wishing the best for you, whoever is reading this that if you are facing any troubles to gain the greater perspective and zoom out a little. As my dear friend tells me, let's go sit on his park bench on the moon, look down at where we are, what we are doing, our friends, our family, our community, our country, our world and see where things really are and where they could go with the right perspective!

I would also like to point out that no one knows that Mr. Potter actually has the $8,000 Uncle Billy lost, and Mr. Potter doesn't know about all the people who came to help George.
I would like to think once Potter finds out about how the whole town helped George, he gave up his fight to destroy him, realizing how beaten he really was and then didn’t likely live too long after that.
Saturday Night Live had a skit parody about this. At the end Uncle Billy discovered how he lost the $8000.00 by giving the newspaper clip to Potter. When he said this the whole gang went over to Potters house as a lynch mob demanding Potter to cough it up. Potter stood up from his wheelchair.

Im not normally a fan of colouring old films, but this looks great. Best film of all time
I thought so too... the color and vividness.
I feel the same way. But I would love to see this fully colorized. Of course, keep the original blank + white.
