I have a citizen pro diver and it is a fantastic watch. Citizen is making some good watches. Their quality control is fantastic. Even a $70 watch quartz, will hit all the markers. Chris, your Citizen reviews are knocking it out of the park. It's nice to see the brand getting some recognition. I've noticed there have been some price hikes for the brand here in the UK, I guess that's happening in all markets. I'm wondering is it production costs or following Seiko's strategy and trying to move upmarket. This model and the black on rubber strap are stunning. Another great review. 👍

Serious piece of kit, just like we expected. Very subdued; it makes no attempt to be anything other than a tool watch. I have this same type of bracelet and clasp on my Ecodrive BN0150. I definitely use it as a micro adjust as my wrist swells as I'm out and about. Titanium and a high beat movement with that kind of accuracy for under $1k... Seiko would be charging $2000 for that.

It's silicone or in the case of many of them it's nivachron that's just a very anti magnetic metal alloy it's for anti magnetic purposes. But sure if you don't want to go eta or Swatch then Seiko is good as well. Both the 6r and 4r movements are easy to service. My local watchmaker who has been doing it for 30 years and backs Swatch over any 8 or 9000 series movements from the citizen group in terms of serviceability. It's just a myth that you can't do anything about even the shittier powermatic 80s when they eventually need a service 10 or 15 years down the line. Worst case scenario a watchmaker will just swap the movement for a sw200 for 2824 and it's essentially the same cost as it otherwise would've been.

Great review Chris! It definitely is a Prospex killer, nevermind the people whining and nitpicking in the comments. I was looking for a tool watch with bracelet to replace my old Seiko 5 and this is perfect- titanium and diver's clasp are both awesome, surely buying this. At this price there are only microbrands/ indies like Zelos that can compete. However they don't have the heritage & reliability this will offer. What I dislike is that Citizen took ages to get this out and secondly the black one comes only with strap?? What a lame strategy. Can you also get the black one on camera Chris?

It's a cool watch with great specs, the only thing that it's lacking is the character, and Mercedes hands don't help for sure. As far as Seiko and titanium goes I bought a classic 1st gen Shogun SBDC029 recently and I'm in love. It gets a lot of wrist time and it steals it from much more expensive watches. That's the Seiko you wanna compare this Citizen with since the current generation of Shogun is much more expensive.

In the opposite side, I DON'T LIKE the SIZE OF THE CROWN, it look smaller than in the original. Having present the crown has no guards, no protection, it should be way more robust, specially having pesent this is a diver's watch. Also, I don't like the end-links, they are too bulkier, they should have made them "female" end-links so the bracelet would hug better the wrist. Said allt his, I LOVE THIS WATCH and I feel it very right and fairly priced for what it offers. We are getting too used to see overpriced pieces by several times the price they should have.

It's not 16,000 gauss. It's 16,000 A/m which works out to about 200 gauss. Still better protected against casual magnetism than most watches!

I'd prefer it if they offered an Eco drive version. Almost all the watches in my collection are solar and I love the mvmt. It's durable and I won't have to worry about maintenance issues every 5 to 8 years. I already have a couple of Promaster "pilot" watches with Eco drives and now I'm just looking for a nice diver with a clasp like this one. I'd prefer not to go jdm either cause finding deals on itizen or casio jdm watches is a needle in a haystack.

Interesting, has some 90s Seamaster vibes to it with that bezel font and the blue.
Citizen has been killing it recently on the spec sheet and while this is on the more pleasing side optically, however for some reason also this doesn’t do it for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

At this time it looks like Citizen is run by engineers and designers that check in with their marketing department, while Seiko seem to be run by the marketing department that overwork the designers.

A comment from someone that actually used to short dive.
1 the packaging is a joke, too much plastic, a piss take. 2 the crown is too small and not protected, divers know what I mean. 3 bevelled lenses are a bitch to look at under water. 4 the power reserve is substandard at 41hrs considering a Seiko 6r35 /70 hr. 5 the hour hand was a fail back then & still is now along with the thin most importantly unsatisfactory minute hand. The bracelet saves this watch, it is quicker to use than the Seiko SPB 189 Titanium, but that's about where it ends. If a casual water sport snorkelling Guy/Gal gets one, they may be kicking themselves for not getting the longer reserve Seiko without the Turtle food packaging!. Oh yes the Cyclops date on the SPB189J is no joke, Divers need to see the date when doing up the dive log entry. So to sum up the retail AU$1550.00 for the Citizen Titanium Promaster it's OK. The Seiko prospex SPB189J at AU $1690.00 is the common sense buy, albeit with a save the ocean crappy cardboard box. Cheers from Brisbane, Australia. Johno :)

    I like it.
That said, I think I'm going to save my $$ for the Tudor Pelagos 39.
Not in the same price category, but it's too easy to buy multiple 1K plus watches and still want more.
I'd like to see this Citizen compared with the Seiko Shogun. I'm so tempted by that piece, but seems a bit hard to find.
